It says, I will pray the Father and he 00:04:12.060 --> 00:04:14.919 will give you another helper. that he may abide 00:04:14.919 --> 00:04:18.939 with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the 00:04:18.939 --> 00:04:21.680 world cannot receive, because it neither see 00:04:21.680 --> 00:04:25.220 him nor know him, but you know him, for he dwells 00:04:25.220 --> 00:04:28.839 with you and will be in you. Praise the Lord. So 00:05:13.009 --> 00:05:15.769 let's see the promises. Let's see the promise 00:05:15.769 --> 00:05:18.490 of God, of God's temple. Go back to that Exodus 00:05:18.490 --> 00:05:24.350 29, verse 45. It says, I will dwell among the 00:05:24.350 --> 00:05:31.209 children of Israel and will be their God. Praise 00:05:31.209 --> 00:05:34.189 the Lord. He will dwell among the children of 00:05:34.189 --> 00:05:37.430 Israel and will be their God. So this is God's 00:05:37.430 --> 00:05:41.269 promise of the temple. Praise the Lord. Right? 00:05:41.819 --> 00:05:45.540 So God's temple, we looked at also the last time, 00:05:45.600 --> 00:05:49.579 that God's temple is not a place. Praise the 00:05:49.579 --> 00:05:53.699 Lord. God's temple is amongst the people. And 00:05:53.699 --> 00:05:56.920 Jesus came to fulfill that. Praise the Lord. 00:05:57.240 --> 00:06:02.279 God's temple is in man. And Jesus came to fulfill 00:06:02.279 --> 00:06:07.579 that promise. Amen. So let's go back to what 00:06:07.579 --> 00:06:09.860 we have been discussing as well. Matthew chapter 00:06:09.860 --> 00:06:14.060 21. Matthew chapter 21, from verse 1 to verse 00:06:14.060 --> 00:06:19.100 12 to 14. Matthew. Then Jesus went into the temple 00:06:19.100 --> 00:06:23.100 of God and drove out all those who bought and 00:06:23.100 --> 00:06:26.959 sold in the temple and overthrew the tables of 00:06:26.959 --> 00:06:30.639 the money exchangers and the seat of those who 00:06:30.639 --> 00:06:34.579 sold those. And he said to them, it is written, 00:06:34.839 --> 00:06:39.339 my house shall be called a house of prayer, but 00:06:39.339 --> 00:06:43.470 you have made it. A den of thieves. Praise the 00:06:43.470 --> 00:06:48.269 Lord. A den of thieves. So let's look at what 00:06:48.269 --> 00:06:51.029 he writes about this same place in the Gospel 00:06:51.029 --> 00:06:56.009 of Mark. Mark chapter 11. Mark chapter 11 from 00:06:56.009 --> 00:07:00.050 verse 15 to 16. It's very fundamental what he 00:07:00.050 --> 00:07:02.709 writes. He said, so Jesus came to Jerusalem. 00:07:03.189 --> 00:07:06.250 So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into 00:07:06.250 --> 00:07:09.180 the temple and began to drive out those. who 00:07:09.180 --> 00:07:12.259 bought and sold in the temple, and overthrew 00:07:12.259 --> 00:07:15.379 the tables of the money changers and the seat 00:07:15.379 --> 00:07:19.000 of those who sold those. And he will not allow 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:25.680 anyone to carry waste through the temples. Praise 00:07:25.680 --> 00:07:29.740 the Lord. Verse 17 now. He said, Then he taught 00:07:29.740 --> 00:07:36.100 them, saying to them, It is written, My house 00:07:36.100 --> 00:07:39.740 shall be called a house of prayer, for all nations, 00:07:39.920 --> 00:07:43.079 but you have made it a den of thieves. Verse 00:07:43.079 --> 00:07:45.800 17, he said, then he taught them. Praise the 00:07:45.800 --> 00:07:48.720 Lord. So he was not just saying to them that, 00:07:48.800 --> 00:07:50.939 you know what, people are making a mess of this 00:07:50.939 --> 00:07:53.579 place. Praise the Lord. But then he taught them 00:07:53.579 --> 00:07:57.399 what the purpose of that place was. He said, 00:07:57.439 --> 00:07:59.920 he taught them saying, it is written, my house 00:07:59.920 --> 00:08:03.339 shall be called a house of prayer for all nations. 00:08:03.459 --> 00:08:06.060 We notice a slight difference here. In Matthew, 00:08:06.220 --> 00:08:09.490 he doesn't say, For all nations, right? He says, 00:08:09.490 --> 00:08:12.029 my house shall be a house of prayer, but you've 00:08:12.029 --> 00:08:14.310 made it a den of thieves. But Mark says what? 00:08:14.430 --> 00:08:17.129 For all nations. Praise the Lord. But you've 00:08:17.129 --> 00:08:21.310 made it a den of thieves, right? He taught them. 00:08:21.750 --> 00:08:27.870 Meaning that what he was doing was that he was 00:08:27.870 --> 00:08:30.850 teaching them. So his actions were explaining 00:08:30.850 --> 00:08:34.289 his teaching. Praise the Lord. His teaching. 00:08:35.100 --> 00:08:38.039 So he was, he drove them out, praise the Lord, 00:08:38.139 --> 00:08:40.159 right? But at the same time, he was teaching 00:08:40.159 --> 00:08:43.700 them something. His action also was a teaching 00:08:43.700 --> 00:08:47.460 that he was giving to them. So he was teaching 00:08:47.460 --> 00:08:50.840 this, right, from the Old Testament, where he 00:08:50.840 --> 00:08:53.639 says that my house shall be called a house of 00:08:53.639 --> 00:08:57.740 prayers for all nations, but you have made it 00:08:57.740 --> 00:09:02.159 a den of thieves. So his action was an illustration. 00:09:02.840 --> 00:09:06.019 Praise the Lord. His action was illustration 00:09:06.019 --> 00:09:09.419 to drive out the people and to overturn the tables, 00:09:09.659 --> 00:09:13.000 right? It was an illustration of his teaching. 00:09:13.179 --> 00:09:17.019 Praise the Lord. Verse 17, he says what? Is it 00:09:17.019 --> 00:09:20.139 not written, my house shall be called a house 00:09:20.139 --> 00:09:22.740 of prayers for all nations? So he didn't just 00:09:22.740 --> 00:09:25.539 say, oh no, this is the wrong thing to do. But 00:09:25.539 --> 00:09:27.840 he was also reminding them of the scriptures. 00:09:28.240 --> 00:09:31.980 Is it not written, my house shall be called a 00:09:31.980 --> 00:09:34.710 house of prayers for all nations? So we can say 00:09:34.710 --> 00:09:39.169 that Jesus was not, I mean, maybe the movies 00:09:39.169 --> 00:09:41.049 that we watched or some of the things that we 00:09:41.049 --> 00:09:44.789 thought, Jesus was teaching in as much as he 00:09:44.789 --> 00:09:47.009 was driving the people out. Praise the Lord. 00:09:47.090 --> 00:09:50.929 So we can say that he wasn't necessarily like 00:09:50.929 --> 00:09:56.730 coming to the people, very furious and doing 00:09:56.730 --> 00:09:58.889 a lot of things. Praise the Lord. But that he 00:09:58.889 --> 00:10:03.149 was teaching them by his action. He was teaching 00:10:03.149 --> 00:10:07.559 them. So we also look at what John also says. 00:10:07.980 --> 00:10:13.539 2 John 2, verses 13 -16. Now the Passover of 00:10:13.539 --> 00:10:16.659 the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 00:10:17.139 --> 00:10:20.440 He founded the temple of those who sold oxen 00:10:20.440 --> 00:10:24.019 and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing 00:10:24.019 --> 00:10:27.340 business. And he said to those who sold doves, 00:10:27.360 --> 00:10:30.539 Take these things away. Do not make my father's 00:10:30.539 --> 00:10:33.730 house a house of merchandise. Praise the Lord. 00:10:33.889 --> 00:10:38.429 Do not make my father's house a house of merchandise. 00:10:38.830 --> 00:10:43.169 Verse 17. Do not 00:11:19.429 --> 00:11:22.750 make my father's house a house of merchandise. 00:11:23.049 --> 00:11:24.909 The other place we saw my house, my house, and 00:11:24.909 --> 00:11:27.210 this place again was saying, my father's house, 00:11:27.309 --> 00:11:31.340 a house of merchandise. And then the Jews asked 00:11:31.340 --> 00:11:36.139 him, in verse 18, what sign do you show us? Right? 00:11:36.139 --> 00:11:40.240 What sign do you show us since you do these things? 00:11:40.340 --> 00:11:42.399 Praise the Lord. Which means that he was doing 00:11:42.399 --> 00:11:46.200 something in line with the scriptures. Praise 00:11:46.200 --> 00:11:49.779 the Lord. What he was doing was in line with 00:11:49.779 --> 00:11:53.200 the scriptures. Right? Which means that Jesus 00:11:53.200 --> 00:11:56.080 was not just saying, why are you selling these 00:11:56.080 --> 00:11:59.820 things? Or why are you buying here? And we said the last time that there was 00:12:02.340 --> 00:12:06.120 nothing wrong with buying and selling in the 00:12:06.120 --> 00:12:10.179 temple. There was nothing wrong because it was 00:12:10.179 --> 00:12:14.120 permitted by Moses for them to be done. It was 00:12:14.120 --> 00:12:17.539 permitted in scriptures for them to buy and sell. 00:12:18.120 --> 00:12:22.559 So stopping them was a fulfillment of the scriptures. 00:12:22.700 --> 00:12:25.139 I'm going to explain that in a short while. And then he 00:13:18.799 --> 00:13:21.340 said to them, my father's house shall not be 00:13:21.340 --> 00:13:24.159 a house of merchandise. Like I said, he was quoting 00:13:24.159 --> 00:13:28.279 the Old Testament. And then he says, what sign? 00:13:28.460 --> 00:13:33.019 Then he says to them in verse 19, verse 19. And 00:13:33.019 --> 00:13:35.779 Jesus said to them, destroy this temple. And 00:13:35.779 --> 00:13:39.240 in three days, I would raise it up. Praise the 00:13:39.240 --> 00:13:42.480 Lord. Destroy this temple. And in three days, 00:13:42.500 --> 00:13:44.440 I will raise it up. This same word that is used 00:13:44.440 --> 00:13:47.139 for resurrection, right? So what is he talking 00:13:47.139 --> 00:13:49.620 about? What does he mean? Destroy this temple. 00:13:49.759 --> 00:13:54.080 It cost them 46, 47, 46 years to build the temple. 00:13:54.220 --> 00:13:56.919 The Jews were wondering. It cost us 46 years 00:13:56.919 --> 00:13:58.759 to build this temple, and you say destroy it, 00:13:58.899 --> 00:14:05.080 and he will build it up in three days. Now, verse 00:14:08.440 --> 00:14:12.519 21 and 22, he said, but he was speaking of the 00:14:12.519 --> 00:14:17.019 temple of his body. Praise the Lord. No, like 00:14:57.450 --> 00:15:02.649 I said, sometimes the event of how Jesus drove 00:15:02.649 --> 00:15:05.470 out the money exchangers, the way it is portrayed 00:15:05.470 --> 00:15:09.409 in movies, is that Jesus came in, he was very 00:15:09.409 --> 00:15:12.769 angry, he chased people away, he made codes and 00:15:12.769 --> 00:15:14.830 beat people out of the temple. Praise the Lord. 00:15:15.509 --> 00:15:18.629 He drove things out of the temple and the people 00:15:18.629 --> 00:15:22.129 that were there. The people were selling and 00:16:52.870 --> 00:16:56.210 buying, right? Like I said, why did they sell 00:16:56.210 --> 00:16:59.649 and buy in the temple? So, like I said, it was 00:16:59.649 --> 00:17:02.970 a permission that Moses gave them for those who 00:17:02.970 --> 00:17:07.230 were coming from afar. Imagine coming from a 00:17:07.230 --> 00:17:11.569 very far place, carrying oxen and sheep to come 00:17:11.569 --> 00:17:14.289 and sacrifice. They didn't have the luxury that 00:17:14.289 --> 00:17:20.500 we have now of driving cars or... you know, cargos, 00:17:20.519 --> 00:17:23.299 things like this, right? So they needed to carry 00:17:23.299 --> 00:17:25.339 those things either by their hands or in horses. 00:17:25.859 --> 00:17:28.220 And so it was very difficult for them to get 00:17:28.220 --> 00:17:31.200 to those places. So there's a permission for 00:17:31.200 --> 00:17:34.539 Moses for them to come and buy the things there. 00:17:34.900 --> 00:17:36.559 Praise the Lord. They should just come, give 00:17:36.559 --> 00:17:40.920 money and take the things they needed for sacrifice 00:17:40.920 --> 00:17:46.079 and sacrifice in the temple. When they get to the temple, 00:17:49.549 --> 00:17:53.130 They should use those money to buy the item that 00:17:53.130 --> 00:17:59.190 they are using for sacrifice. When the evening 00:47:40.039 --> 00:47:43.619 had come, they went out of the city. And in the 00:47:43.619 --> 00:47:45.380 morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig 00:47:45.380 --> 00:47:48.639 tree dried up from its roots.
