I came across the fact that somebody 00:11:29.090 --> 00:11:32.250 gave to me recently a funny little story about 00:11:32.250 --> 00:11:36.370 discipline within a church. It says a certain 00:11:36.370 --> 00:11:39.029 suburban neighborhood had two brothers who were 00:11:39.029 --> 00:11:42.669 8 and 10 years old and who were exceedingly mischievous. 00:11:43.090 --> 00:11:46.909 Whenever something in the neighborhood went wrong, 00:11:47.730 --> 00:11:50.570 it often turned out to be that these two brothers 00:11:50.570 --> 00:11:56.129 had a hand in it. Their parents went in knowing 00:11:56.129 --> 00:11:59.789 how to control them. And so hearing that a priest 00:11:59.789 --> 00:12:02.190 lived nearby who worked with delinquent boys, 00:12:02.389 --> 00:12:05.049 the mother suggested to the father that they 00:12:05.049 --> 00:12:07.629 ask the priest to talk with these boys. And so the priest, being a little bit 00:12:58.549 --> 00:13:02.370 agitated, leaned forward and again put his finger 00:13:02.370 --> 00:13:07.929 in the boy's nose and said, Where is God? And 00:13:07.929 --> 00:13:10.309 the boy looked all around and said nothing but 00:13:10.309 --> 00:13:13.769 third time a former voice at the priest leaned 00:13:13.769 --> 00:13:19.350 across the desk and asked, Where is God? And I use that so that you can hear the 00:14:48.899 --> 00:14:51.259 word and understand that it's the root of our 00:14:51.259 --> 00:14:58.220 word, pornography. or they are referred to sexual 00:14:58.220 --> 00:15:06.379 intimacy of any sort outside of marriage. Paul 00:15:06.379 --> 00:15:11.659 says there is immortality among you. It is commonly 00:15:11.659 --> 00:15:16.379 known. And I'm talking about the man who is living 00:15:16.379 --> 00:15:20.879 with his stepmother. Now the way that Paul puts 00:15:20.879 --> 00:15:23.379 this together, it's clear that this was not a 00:15:23.379 --> 00:15:28.870 single act. of the morality. But here's a man 00:15:28.870 --> 00:15:33.889 who is currently involved in an ongoing affair 00:15:33.889 --> 00:15:40.850 with the woman that his father had married. And 00:15:40.850 --> 00:15:43.230 again, the implication is that this was not his 00:15:43.230 --> 00:15:48.029 real mother, but his stepmother. Paul says that 00:15:48.029 --> 00:15:52.289 this is so heinous that not even the pagans approve 00:15:52.289 --> 00:15:56.179 of it. We know in the Old Testament in Leviticus 00:15:56.179 --> 00:16:00.559 18 and Deuteronomy 22, forgiveness, this sort 00:16:00.559 --> 00:16:04.980 of relationship. The poem even points beyond 00:16:04.980 --> 00:16:09.240 the Bible, and he says even the Romans in their 00:16:09.240 --> 00:16:16.220 law forbid this kind of behavior. As a result 00:16:16.220 --> 00:16:19.539 of what was taking place in the church, this 00:16:19.539 --> 00:16:23.350 group of people had lost their testimony. And 00:16:23.350 --> 00:16:26.809 the glory of Christ was degraded in court because 00:16:26.809 --> 00:16:32.549 they were allowing the step to go on unchecked. 00:16:33.009 --> 00:16:36.389 Instead of being the White House of truth, they 00:16:36.389 --> 00:16:41.809 had become an occasion for ridicule by the unbelievers 00:16:41.809 --> 00:16:47.409 in the city of court. So Paul explains precisely 00:16:47.409 --> 00:16:53.279 what he's talking about. He also talks about 00:16:53.279 --> 00:16:55.799 the attitude that's being expressed by the church 00:16:55.799 --> 00:17:00.399 toward this sin.
