Atwater, 1992, describes 00:04:40.589 --> 00:04:44.129 negative NDE experiencers were experiencing cold, 00:04:44.269 --> 00:04:46.970 dark, violent settings with lifeless figures, 00:04:47.430 --> 00:04:50.579 emotional distress, and a fight to survive. The first is called the inverse 00:08:34.299 --> 00:08:38.720 NDE, and this takes place when the common, pleasant 00:08:38.720 --> 00:08:41.820 features of near -death experiences are not at 00:08:41.820 --> 00:08:44.879 all pleasant. For example, seeing a white light, 00:08:45.080 --> 00:08:48.440 as is common within regular, happy NDE, which 00:08:48.440 --> 00:08:51.139 is often a source of comfort and peace, light 00:08:51.139 --> 00:08:54.220 beings, floating sensation, etc. However, in 00:08:54.220 --> 00:08:56.799 the inverse NDE, the white light might appear 00:08:56.799 --> 00:08:59.179 threatening and bring on panic and depression. 00:08:59.679 --> 00:09:02.480 Researchers believe these NDE are due to a person 00:09:02.480 --> 00:09:05.220 being in shock at what's happening to them. In some cases the person may 00:11:29.549 --> 00:11:32.850 simply feel neutral feelings instead.
