We should exercise wisdom. and 00:05:34.139 --> 00:05:37.839 discernment. But the sovereignty of God is not 00:05:37.839 --> 00:05:41.279 limited by the boundaries of our awareness. God does not merely prevent Balam from 00:06:31.699 --> 00:06:35.079 cursing Israel. The mouth that was hired to curse 00:06:35.079 --> 00:06:39.120 them begins blessing them. Now that is divine 00:06:39.120 --> 00:06:43.620 intervention. Balak wanted one outcome. God produced 00:06:43.620 --> 00:06:47.680 another. The intention was destruction. The result 00:06:47.680 --> 00:06:50.500 became blessing. And this reminds me of Joseph. 00:06:51.259 --> 00:06:53.819 You intended to harm me, but God intended it 00:06:53.819 --> 00:06:58.819 for good. Again, we encounter the mystery. Human 00:06:58.819 --> 00:07:02.120 beings can have intentions. The enemy can have 00:07:02.120 --> 00:07:05.680 intentions. Circumstances can move in directions 00:07:05.680 --> 00:07:09.459 that frighten us. And eventually, Balaam declares 00:07:51.790 --> 00:07:55.170 something extraordinary. Eventually, the king of Aram becomes 00:09:08.000 --> 00:09:11.059 convinced there must be a traitor among his own 00:09:11.059 --> 00:09:14.679 officers, but someone tells him, no one, my lord 00:09:14.679 --> 00:09:18.029 the king. Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells 00:09:18.029 --> 00:09:20.750 the king of Israel the very words you speak in 00:09:20.750 --> 00:09:24.029 your bedroom. So the king sends horses, chariots, 00:09:24.110 --> 00:09:27.649 and a strong military force to capture Elisha. 00:09:27.789 --> 00:09:30.389 They arrive at night. They surround the city. 00:09:30.629 --> 00:09:33.309 Early the next morning, Elisha's servant walks 00:09:33.309 --> 00:09:37.450 outside, and everywhere he looks, soldiers, horses, 00:09:37.769 --> 00:09:40.789 chariots. The city is surrounded. The servant 00:09:40.789 --> 00:09:45.629 panics. Oh no, my lord, what shall we do? Those who are 00:09:52.070 --> 00:09:54.590 with us are more than those who are with them. 00:09:54.970 --> 00:09:59.409 Imagine being the servant. You look again. Enemy 00:09:59.409 --> 00:10:03.230 soldiers everywhere. You look at Elisha. Two 00:10:03.230 --> 00:10:07.490 people. And Elisha says, we have more. At that 00:10:07.490 --> 00:10:10.429 moment the servant has a problem. He is interpreting 00:10:10.429 --> 00:10:13.570 reality only through what his eyes can see. So 00:10:13.570 --> 00:10:18.269 Elisha prays. Open his eyes, Lord, so that he 00:10:18.269 --> 00:10:22.970 may see. And God opens the servant's eyes. Suddenly, 00:10:23.230 --> 00:10:26.049 he sees the hills full of horses and chariots 00:10:26.049 --> 00:10:29.629 of fire surrounding Elisha. Now notice something. 00:10:30.250 --> 00:10:33.289 The heavenly army did not appear when the servant's 00:10:33.289 --> 00:10:37.149 eyes opened. It was already there. His eyes simply 00:10:37.149 --> 00:10:39.889 became capable of seeing what had been present 00:10:39.889 --> 00:10:43.559 all along. That is a revelation. Sometimes prayer 00:10:43.559 --> 00:10:46.820 does not cause God to arrive. And later, the man who denied Jesus 00:13:16.620 --> 00:13:20.019 before a servant girl stood publicly at Pentecost 00:13:20.019 --> 00:13:24.549 and proclaimed Christ. Why? because the sifting 00:13:24.549 --> 00:13:28.049 was not allowed to become the ending. Jesus had 00:13:28.049 --> 00:13:31.649 already said, when you have turned back, strengthen 00:13:31.649 --> 00:13:35.610 your brothers. Do you see it? Jesus was speaking 00:13:35.610 --> 00:13:38.789 about Peter's restoration before Peter's failure 00:13:38.789 --> 00:13:43.950 happened. That is divine intervention. God can 00:13:43.950 --> 00:13:47.250 have restoration prepared before you even understand 00:13:47.250 --> 00:13:50.490 the battle you are entering. And this brings 00:13:50.490 --> 00:13:53.600 us back to something we discovered earlier. The God who goes 00:17:17.480 --> 00:17:21.619 before you. This may be the revelation beneath 00:17:21.619 --> 00:17:25.339 all of it. We often think of divine intervention 00:17:25.339 --> 00:17:29.299 as God arriving when trouble arrives. But scripture 00:17:29.299 --> 00:17:33.059 repeatedly describes God differently. He goes 00:17:33.059 --> 00:17:36.920 before us. Deuteronomy says, the Lord himself 00:17:36.920 --> 00:17:40.119 goes before you and will be with you. He will 00:17:40.119 --> 00:17:43.619 never leave you nor forsake you. Think about 00:17:43.619 --> 00:17:47.779 those words. He goes before you. That means when 00:17:47.779 --> 00:17:51.400 you arrive tomorrow, God is not arriving with 00:17:51.400 --> 00:17:55.119 you. He has already gone before you.
