Ashton, man are you excited?

11
00:00:48,880 --> 00:00:52,920
This is our first ever podcast.

12
00:00:52,920 --> 00:00:54,120
The first one I've done.

13
00:00:54,120 --> 00:00:55,960
The first one you've done.

14
00:00:55,960 --> 00:01:00,880
Welcome everybody to episode one of the Champs and Chums podcast.

15
00:01:00,880 --> 00:01:03,720
My name is Anthony and I'm Ashton.

16
00:01:03,720 --> 00:01:04,720
That's great Ashton.

17
00:01:04,720 --> 00:01:07,360
Ashton how do you feel having your very first podcast?

18
00:01:07,360 --> 00:01:08,360
Good.

19
00:01:08,360 --> 00:01:09,360
Oh man.

20
00:01:09,360 --> 00:01:10,360
What else?

21
00:01:10,360 --> 00:01:13,360
How else are you feeling about your first podcast?

22
00:01:13,360 --> 00:01:18,920
Excited and really, really happy.

23
00:01:18,920 --> 00:01:36,960
Well you should be really happy because I tell you this is something that we've talked about. Just because this is our first episode I want you to tell the listeners at home why, how did this come about in terms of you thinking, we thinking about a podcast let alone a father and son podcast.

24
00:01:37,960 --> 00:01:43,240
So one day I was chatting with my dad.

24
00:01:43,240 --> 00:01:46,240
I'm your dad right? Just kidding. Keep going with the story.

25
00:01:46,240 --> 00:01:58,240
So I told him and I said I wanted to do a YouTube channel and he said no let's try a podcast first.

26
00:01:58,240 --> 00:02:05,040
I think you actually wanted to do like basketball tricks or something like that on YouTube or something. Tell the listeners.

27
00:02:05,040 --> 00:02:16,520
Because this is a YouTube channel. His name is Jesser and he does trick shots on YouTube.

28
00:02:16,520 --> 00:02:18,080
Ladies and gentlemen, listen at home.

29
00:02:18,080 --> 00:02:20,160
I didn't know he was checking this out.

30
00:02:20,160 --> 00:02:21,520
Trick shots on YouTube.

31
00:02:21,520 --> 00:02:29,800
But nonetheless, Ashton why don't we tell the listeners at home a little bit more about ourselves. So I'm going to kick it off.

32
00:02:29,800 --> 00:03:36,600
My name is Anthony Alfred. I'm 46 years old. I'm born in Scarborough. Have lived in Brampton for the last 13 years and I absolutely love sports. I've played sports since I was nine years old on the soccer fields in Scarborough playing with the Agent Court Soccer Club and then on to Maple Leaf and I just became a real fan.

I consumed it at all levels. I watched it. I listened to it. I read books about sports and in fact I took my career and spent part of my 24 years out in career in sports. I worked in the wonderful world of tennis. I worked in the wonderful world of golf and my first ever job Ashton I had and I told you the story. I was with the Toronto Maple Leafs and I worked there for three and a half years and it was a boyhood dream come true.

So I'm Anthony. I'm the principal and founder of Aspire Communications. I launched my small business, my marketing communications firm in Canada Day 2016 and that's me.

33
00:03:36,600 --> 00:03:39,880
So Ashton let's hear from you. Tell the listeners about you.

34
00:03:39,880 --> 00:03:51,160
My name is Ashton and I'm seven years old. I'm born and I live in Brampton, Ontario. I go to Roundtree and I'm in grade two.

35
00:03:51,160 --> 00:03:53,920
And you also have been going to Roundtree. How long have you been going to Roundtree?

36
00:03:53,920 --> 00:03:56,920
Since I was 14 months old.

37
00:03:56,920 --> 00:04:02,320
14 months old? Wow, that's like almost in diapers.

38
00:04:02,320 --> 00:04:08,400
Okay. So anyways, your love for sports Ashton, tell the listeners about your love for sports.

39
00:04:08,400 --> 00:04:13,240
Basketball, swimming, gymnastics, hip hop, dance, soccer.

40
00:04:13,240 --> 00:04:16,080
Wow, that's quite impressive.

41
00:04:16,080 --> 00:04:18,000
And can I tell you something?

42
00:04:18,000 --> 00:04:22,920
Absolutely, this is about talking and telling the fans what you're talking about. Tell us something.

43
00:04:22,920 --> 00:04:25,480
My favorite soccer player is Cristiano Ronaldo.

44
00:04:25,480 --> 00:04:28,480
Now why is Ronaldo your favorite soccer player Ashton?

45
00:04:28,480 --> 00:04:31,640
Because he's really good at soccer.

46
00:04:31,640 --> 00:04:37,000
Yeah, he's a handsome looking guy as well too, right? Just like you Ashton, just like you.

47
00:04:37,000 --> 00:04:48,960
Well thanks for sharing with the listeners at home and we should say a shout out to mom, My wife Natalie. Thank you for your support and we'll thank some others as well at the end of the show.

48
00:04:48,960 --> 00:04:51,080
But you want to say hi to mom like you always do?

49
00:04:51,080 --> 00:04:52,080
Hi mom.

50
00:04:52,080 --> 00:04:53,560
All right, hi mom.

51
00:04:53,560 --> 00:04:59,400
That's great and we'll know at least we'll have one subscriber at least Ashton, that's good.

52
00:04:59,400 --> 00:05:09,400
And so let's get back to the story, right? Because you would want to do a YouTube channel, you wanted to do trick shots, you still do trick shots, right?

53
00:05:09,400 --> 00:05:11,020
Yeah.

54
00:05:11,020 --> 00:05:25,320
Cool, cool. You still do them, I see you out on the courtyards for sure. But so we took our idea, this was back probably about what, two and a half months ago to do this podcast and what do we do here? What do we do next?

55
00:05:25,320 --> 00:05:28,840
What do you mean is that?

56
00:05:28,840 --> 00:05:35,280
Well I mean what did we do next? We had to learn somewhere how to do this, so what did we do? We hopped in our car and where did we go?

57
00:05:35,280 --> 00:05:37,600
We went to this library.

58
00:05:37,600 --> 00:05:46,360
And this library, you had to tell the listeners at home this library, this beautiful podcast studio that we're in, in the City of Brampton, tell them about it.

59
00:05:46,360 --> 00:06:04,040
So one day we called the library near us but they said it's only here so we drive here and we got maybe two tours and then now we're here doing our podcast.

60
00:06:04,040 --> 00:06:06,440
Yeah can you believe it? The Champs and Chums podcast.

61
00:06:06,440 --> 00:06:45,600
And let's tell the listeners a little bit about why Champs and Chums. And maybe I'll kick it off but I think it's important for the listeners at home to know for us, the champs are the big time performers. These are the male athletes, the female athletes on the field, on the ice, on the court and they're doing big things. So these can be current players, they can be past players, they can be amateur athletes, they can be professional athletes but these are the champs in our mind, eh Ashton?

Now tell us about the chums part. What do we mean by the chums part to the show?

62
00:06:45,600 --> 00:06:48,040
Chums is a friend.

63
00:06:48,040 --> 00:06:49,520
And a good friend at that.

64
00:06:49,520 --> 00:07:06,520
And you know one of the things about friends, you can always count on your friends and maybe you can tell, yeah go ahead. You know Liza Jones, he raised his hand like he was in the classroom but it's okay, we're on the air, this is the Champs and Chums podcast so tell the story to the listeners.

65
00:07:06,520 --> 00:07:13,120
If someone pushes you down, a friend of yours can help you get back up.

66
00:07:13,120 --> 00:07:48,400
You know what, that's such a wonderful message and at times friends can help you when great things happen in your life and when times are a little tough as well too, right. So that's a really good story, that's a really good story Ashton.

So listeners at home, that's really the essence of why we're doing this. You know we're a father and son and we love sports, we want to love life together and everything that life brings and we love friendships and friendships is such an important thing and Ashton, you're lucky to have some friends as well too, eh? Tell us about some of the friends you have.

68
00:07:48,400 --> 00:08:03,640
Shawn, he was a really good friend of mine. We were born on the same day, we were born in the same hospital and - yeah - the first time we met is in the hospital.

69
00:08:03,640 --> 00:08:17,920
You did meet in the hospital and I want to save that story because when we do episode 2, ladies and gentlemen, you're going to hear a little bit more about the chum that is Shawn and you'll hear a little bit from me as well too.

70
00:08:17,920 --> 00:08:27,000
Well listen, this has been a great opening Ashton, what was your first thoughts in doing this first episode? What did you think?

71
00:08:27,000 --> 00:08:34,440
Well, I was really excited when my dad told me there was an Instagram.

72
00:08:34,440 --> 00:08:37,040
Oh yes, that's right.

73
00:08:37,040 --> 00:09:26,920
Ladies and gentlemen at home, just so you know, we actually have our own Instagram channel, It's at Champs and Chums and we'll talk a little bit about that at the end of the program, but let's talk about the program a little bit because we're going to have talk about sports, life and friendship. And we're also going to have our regular segments and these segments are called the All Pro Go segment, the All Pro Go and that's a Did You Know Sports Spotlight brought to you by my chum on the other side of the chair here, Ashton and we're also going to do our closing of the show with Champs and Chums, it's our personal salute to stars on and off the field so Ashton and I are going to bring that to you every episode and we're certainly looking forward to that.

74
00:09:26,920 --> 00:09:32,080
But how about thank yous Ashton, who do you want to thank for helping you put together this podcast?

75
00:09:32,080 --> 00:09:36,080
Everybody behind the glass.

76
00:09:36,080 --> 00:09:48,320
Everybody behind the glass and this is radio, this is podcasting so you kind of have to be very descriptive, who are the wonderful people behind the glass that really helped us pull this debut episode together?

77
00:09:48,320 --> 00:09:53,640
Ashley, my cousin Ashley, my cousin Serena and my uncle Ansari.

78
00:09:53,640 --> 00:09:58,640
Yes that's right, the Power Girls as I'm going to call them on this episode.

79
00:09:58,640 --> 00:10:00,080
And Uncle Dennis.

80
00:10:00,080 --> 00:10:23,480
And Uncle Dennis, Uncle Dennis that's right, Uncle Ansari, your great uncle is now going to be called on this show Uncle Dennis. If you're Uncle Dennis on all these episodes of the Champs and Chums you'll know who it is and then the Power Girls behind the glass, they're really helping us produce this, putting it together so thank you Ashley and Serena for your great support.

81
00:10:23,480 --> 00:10:40,440
I also want Ashton to thank the city that we're in, the City of Brampton for being so kind to lend this podcasting studio to us while we do those episodes, it's such a great thing in community. What do you think of the City of Brampton and do you want to say thank you to the city of Brampton?

82
00:10:40,440 --> 00:10:50,640
Well thank you a lot city of Brampton and I've been living here for how many years?

83
00:10:50,640 --> 00:10:52,280
Well how many years are you Ashton?

84
00:10:52,280 --> 00:10:53,280
Seven years.

85
00:10:53,280 --> 00:10:57,400
So you've been living here for seven years, yeah.

86
00:10:57,400 --> 00:11:06,680
And we got this beautiful podcasting studio and I'm so happy that Brampton let us do this.

87
00:11:06,680 --> 00:11:21,200
Oh yeah, thanks Ashton and I equally thank the City of Brampton, a great place to live, work and play so really going to talk about, when you think about life and friendship a lot of things reside in community too so that's quite exciting.

88
00:11:21,200 --> 00:11:40,720
Well you know what, we're going to wrap up this first episode, it's been a good one and how about a fist bump, they won't see it but they'll know. My chum on the right side of me here Ashton, it's been a real pleasure, we're looking forward to talking about sports, life and friendship and we'll close off the show by saying -

89
00:11:40,720 --> 00:11:55,760
Cheers to Champs, Cheers to Chums, and Cheers to an All-Star day. Thanks for listening.
