We've been looking at different 00:00:18.179 --> 00:00:22.559 kings. We're in King Hezekiah, and King Hezekiah 00:00:22.559 --> 00:00:26.760 came into a difficult situation. His dad Ahaz, 00:00:26.980 --> 00:00:30.449 a wicked king, his dad Ahaz, led the southern 00:00:30.449 --> 00:00:35.109 kingdom of Judah into sin, idol worship, and 00:00:35.109 --> 00:00:39.640 his dad. led the kingdom into sin and not God's 00:00:39.640 --> 00:00:42.640 blessing, but really God's judgment. And King 00:00:42.640 --> 00:00:45.320 Hesentai becomes the king and immediately makes 00:00:45.320 --> 00:00:46.920 a decision. He said, you know, it doesn't matter 00:00:46.920 --> 00:00:49.859 the way it's been before. I've got a new beginning. 00:00:49.960 --> 00:00:52.520 I have a new opportunity. Look at verse number 15. Then they 00:01:18.709 --> 00:01:22.439 killed the. Passover on the 14th day of the second 00:01:22.439 --> 00:01:25.060 month. And you remember the story from last week, 00:01:25.200 --> 00:01:27.099 all of a sudden Hezekiah says, listen, we're 00:01:27.099 --> 00:01:29.400 going to have the Passover. We're going to celebrate 00:01:29.400 --> 00:01:33.000 the Passover feast. We're going to remember the 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:36.859 Lamb, which signified the Lamb of God, which 00:01:36.859 --> 00:01:38.439 took away the sin of the world. And he began 00:01:38.439 --> 00:01:40.280 to gather the people and beg people to come. 00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:43.659 And by the way, some people came and many did 00:01:43.659 --> 00:01:47.459 not. A revival began to take 00:01:56.959 --> 00:02:00.900 place. People came and began to get busy in the 00:02:00.900 --> 00:02:02.819 work of the Lord. Look with me at verse number 00:02:02.819 --> 00:02:08.979 26. So there was great joy in what? Whoa, do 00:02:08.979 --> 00:02:11.159 you see that? Second Chronicles chapter 30 verse 00:02:11.159 --> 00:02:14.259 20. So there was what? great joy in Jerusalem, 00:02:14.500 --> 00:02:17.379 for since the time of Solomon, the son of David, 00:02:17.439 --> 00:02:21.840 king of Israel, there was not the like in Jerusalem. 00:02:21.919 --> 00:02:24.319 They began to sell, and there hadn't been a revival. 00:02:24.439 --> 00:02:28.000 There hadn't been a Passover feast like Solomon. 00:02:28.520 --> 00:02:31.840 And the Bible begins to lay out that revival 00:02:31.840 --> 00:02:34.199 service. Now, we're gonna stand in a moment for 00:02:34.199 --> 00:02:36.039 the reading of God's word, but before we stand, 00:02:36.360 --> 00:02:39.479 you have to understand, a revival meeting, the 00:02:39.479 --> 00:02:44.039 emotion, the excitement of God working. In a 00:02:44.039 --> 00:02:45.599 way, this is a revival meeting. When you got 00:02:45.599 --> 00:02:48.460 the deacons up there and Brother Barry up there 00:02:48.460 --> 00:02:51.060 and we're dreaming about planting a church and 00:02:51.060 --> 00:02:53.939 seeing a community forever changed, that rejoices 00:02:53.939 --> 00:02:56.840 my heart. Seeing Brother Paden, he got emotional 00:02:56.840 --> 00:02:59.460 up there because we've seen God do it in the 00:02:59.460 --> 00:03:04.300 past and we're seeing God do it. And if you've 00:03:04.300 --> 00:03:06.580 ever been a part of a revival meeting, the emotion, 00:03:06.620 --> 00:03:08.860 I've been in revival meetings where the preacher 00:03:08.860 --> 00:03:10.900 preaches the word of God and all of a sudden 00:03:10.900 --> 00:03:13.240 God begins working in my heart. And I remember 00:03:13.240 --> 00:03:15.180 many times at the end of a revival service, I 00:03:15.180 --> 00:03:17.259 come running to the front and I begin to get 00:03:17.259 --> 00:03:19.840 on my knees and I begin to sometimes confess 00:03:19.840 --> 00:03:22.560 my sin and give my heart back over to God. And 00:03:22.560 --> 00:03:25.699 there is emotion, great emotion in a revival 00:03:25.699 --> 00:03:27.919 service with the preaching of God's word and 00:03:27.919 --> 00:03:30.639 God's working in my heart. And there's excitement 00:03:30.639 --> 00:03:34.800 in a revival. There is. Now if you can't stand 00:03:34.800 --> 00:03:39.379 for the reading of God's word, because here's 00:03:39.379 --> 00:03:41.439 where the message is going tonight. There's a 00:03:41.439 --> 00:03:45.659 revival. God's working in a great way, but what 00:03:45.659 --> 00:03:51.659 happens after revival? What happens after that 00:03:51.659 --> 00:03:54.879 revival meeting? Look with me at 2 Chronicles 00:03:54.879 --> 00:03:58.240 chapter 31, verse number one, and if you will, 00:03:58.580 --> 00:04:01.099 read with me verse number one altogether. Ready? 00:04:01.400 --> 00:04:05.479 Now when all this was finished, all Israel that 00:04:05.479 --> 00:04:08.539 were present went out to the cities of Judah 00:04:08.539 --> 00:04:12.460 and break the images in pieces and cut down the 00:04:12.460 --> 00:04:15.500 groves and threw down the high places and the 00:04:15.500 --> 00:04:19.100 altars out of all Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim 00:04:19.100 --> 00:04:22.800 also and Manasseh until they had utterly destroyed 00:04:22.800 --> 00:04:25.899 them all. When we get revival, go to a revival meeting, 00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:55.470 we go to a church service. We read the word of 00:04:55.470 --> 00:04:58.009 God, and God begins to work in our heart, and 00:04:58.009 --> 00:05:00.649 we're emotional. There's nothing wrong with emotional, 00:05:00.689 --> 00:05:04.290 but what happens the next day? What happens the 00:05:04.290 --> 00:05:07.329 next week? What happens when you go home? What 00:05:07.329 --> 00:05:11.329 happens after the revival? Before we go any further, 00:05:11.329 --> 00:05:13.069 let's pray. Dear Father in heaven, we love you. 00:05:13.110 --> 00:05:18.089 It's been a great night. And I want to slow down 00:05:18.089 --> 00:05:22.009 and not be hasty in this message. And as 00:06:02.779 --> 00:06:05.360 they go home, God had worked in their lives and 00:06:05.360 --> 00:06:07.060 if you ever been there to a revival meeting, 00:06:07.360 --> 00:06:09.980 you begin to make decisions. When I'm going home. 00:06:10.519 --> 00:06:12.899 Tomorrow, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going 00:06:12.899 --> 00:06:15.439 to live for God. I'm going to serve God. The first part, when 00:06:22.639 --> 00:06:27.459 the revival led to destroyed idols, that first 00:06:27.459 --> 00:06:29.279 verse right there in verse number one. Now, when 00:06:29.279 --> 00:06:31.579 all this was finished, when that revival, that 00:06:31.579 --> 00:06:34.560 Passover was finished, all Israel that were present 00:06:34.560 --> 00:06:38.600 went out to the cities of Judah and break the 00:06:38.600 --> 00:06:43.329 images. in pieces and cut down the groves. They 00:06:43.329 --> 00:06:46.889 break the images in what? And look at that, cut 00:06:46.889 --> 00:06:48.829 down the groves and threw down the high places 00:06:48.829 --> 00:06:51.470 in the old. Now I was trying to think about how 00:06:51.470 --> 00:06:56.449 to illustrate this and in my office I was thinking 00:06:56.449 --> 00:07:00.029 of something that I could pretend or use as an 00:07:00.029 --> 00:07:04.170 idol and I had this thing right here and this 00:07:04.170 --> 00:07:07.449 was a present, a birthday present or a Christmas 00:07:07.449 --> 00:07:11.329 present. from my son Samuel, and it's sitting 00:07:11.329 --> 00:07:14.829 there on my bookshelf. And it is precious to 00:07:14.829 --> 00:07:16.990 me. My Samuel gave it to me. Samuel, you gave 00:07:16.990 --> 00:07:19.370 that to me. And I thought about, you know, the 00:07:19.370 --> 00:07:22.310 great thing to do would be to take a hammer and 00:07:22.310 --> 00:07:23.949 pretend that's an idol. We're going to break 00:07:23.949 --> 00:07:27.670 that down. And so I did the smart thing. I think 00:07:27.670 --> 00:07:29.750 I went and I talked to Samuel. I said, you know, 00:07:29.750 --> 00:07:33.589 Samuel gave that to me. Would it be OK for me 00:07:33.589 --> 00:07:36.730 to use that as an illustration of breaking down 00:07:36.730 --> 00:07:39.370 an idol? And he just looked at me with that, 00:07:39.889 --> 00:07:42.529 uh, I wouldn't prefer you do that, Dad. Can I 00:07:42.529 --> 00:07:50.189 find another idol in our house? I don't know 00:07:50.189 --> 00:07:54.329 if that's exactly the wording that I liked, but 00:07:54.329 --> 00:07:56.689 next thing you know, he comes and he says, Dad, 00:07:56.790 --> 00:08:00.209 could you use this? and he had won an award, 00:08:00.730 --> 00:08:03.290 a little trophy right there, and I thought about 00:08:03.290 --> 00:08:05.329 that, and he was concerned about you, Matthew, 00:08:05.449 --> 00:08:07.769 as one of your games that he won that in, and 00:08:07.769 --> 00:08:10.769 he was concerned about that as an idol. And next 00:08:10.769 --> 00:08:15.009 thing you know, my kids, behind the scenes, they 00:08:15.009 --> 00:08:17.370 decided the best thing is rather than choosing 00:08:17.370 --> 00:08:20.470 this as an idol or this as an idol, they decided 00:08:20.470 --> 00:08:29.680 to spend the afternoon making an idol. So, what 00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:32.259 they did right here is at pastor's house this 00:08:32.259 --> 00:08:36.679 afternoon, the kids, they made an idol. And I 00:08:36.679 --> 00:08:38.639 don't think that's good for a pastor's kid to 00:08:38.639 --> 00:08:40.360 do, by the way. I think that's a bad thing to 00:08:40.360 --> 00:08:44.659 do. But this is, pretend this is the idol. They 00:08:44.659 --> 00:08:48.460 came out after that revival and they began to 00:08:48.460 --> 00:08:51.539 look for things in their lives that were displeasing 00:08:51.539 --> 00:08:54.200 to the Almighty God. And they said, this has 00:08:54.200 --> 00:08:58.629 no business being in my house. This has no business 00:08:58.629 --> 00:09:02.190 being in my life. This has no business being 00:09:02.190 --> 00:09:04.889 in the forefront of my mind. And they begin to 00:09:04.889 --> 00:09:06.509 break them down. And you think about this, you 00:09:06.509 --> 00:09:10.769 can almost, they broke the idol and they broke 00:09:10.769 --> 00:09:13.389 it to smithereens, to pieces, the Bible says 00:09:13.389 --> 00:09:15.950 right there. They cut down the groves. They threw 00:09:15.950 --> 00:09:18.850 down the high places. In other words, they destroyed 00:09:18.850 --> 00:09:20.929 idols. They made a decision. By the way, is this 00:09:20.929 --> 00:09:23.450 a one -time thing in the word of God? Now, by 00:09:23.450 --> 00:09:25.230 the way, this is something interesting. When 00:09:25.230 --> 00:09:27.470 you read the Word of God, you notice a theme 00:09:27.470 --> 00:09:29.309 and a thread throughout the Word of God. In the 00:09:29.309 --> 00:09:32.149 New Testament, there were Christians in Ephesus. 00:09:32.190 --> 00:09:35.009 And in Acts chapter number 19, there was a great 00:09:35.009 --> 00:09:37.889 revival in Ephesus. And by the way, in the revival, 00:09:38.049 --> 00:09:40.549 you can almost hear in the background some preaching, 00:09:40.649 --> 00:09:43.070 some examples, some understanding what happened 00:09:43.070 --> 00:09:46.110 in Hezekiah's time that all of a sudden influenced 00:09:46.110 --> 00:09:48.730 the future generation. And this is wild. In Acts 00:09:48.730 --> 00:09:51.330 chapter number 19, after a revival service, it 00:09:51.330 --> 00:09:54.600 says this. It says, many of them also, which 00:09:54.600 --> 00:09:57.679 used curious arts, brought their books together 00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:00.840 and burned them, burned them before all men. 00:10:01.100 --> 00:10:03.440 And they counted the price of them and found 00:10:03.440 --> 00:10:08.879 it 50 ,000 pieces of silver. So mightily grew 00:10:08.879 --> 00:10:12.460 the word of God and prevail. In other words, 00:10:12.980 --> 00:10:16.360 revival leads to idols that are destroyed. Revival 00:10:16.360 --> 00:10:18.860 leads to making changes in our everyday life. 00:10:19.240 --> 00:10:21.440 50 ,000 pieces of silver, I thought this was 00:10:21.440 --> 00:10:24.299 interesting. A piece of silver represented a 00:10:24.299 --> 00:10:29.559 day's wages. 50 ,000 pieces represented 50 ,000 00:10:29.559 --> 00:10:32.340 day's wages. In other words, if a person worked 00:10:32.340 --> 00:10:36.389 six days a week, about... 312 work days per year, 00:10:36.570 --> 00:10:38.870 it would be 50 ,000 work days. That's roughly 00:10:38.870 --> 00:10:42.909 160 years of labor. And that's not one person's 00:10:42.909 --> 00:10:45.990 library. It's a combined value of all those books. 00:10:46.210 --> 00:10:48.990 And you think about that, that's an amazing fact. 00:10:49.169 --> 00:10:51.210 Money was not the matter. It doesn't matter how 00:10:51.210 --> 00:10:53.809 much that idol cost. It doesn't matter how much 00:10:53.809 --> 00:10:56.169 effort we put into building. What matters is 00:10:56.169 --> 00:10:59.370 our lives pleasing the Almighty God. Now here's 00:10:59.370 --> 00:11:01.110 part, just a minor part, but it's not really 00:11:01.110 --> 00:11:03.309 a minor part. In our hearts and in our minds, 00:11:03.309 --> 00:11:07.330 When God gets ahold of our hearts in a revival 00:11:07.330 --> 00:11:09.149 service, in a church service, while we're reading 00:11:09.149 --> 00:11:11.509 the Word of God, if we look in our lives and 00:11:11.509 --> 00:11:14.529 we have an idol, let's tear them down. Let's 00:11:14.529 --> 00:11:17.309 be willing to get rid of them. I'll never forget, 00:11:17.870 --> 00:11:21.789 I was a young man, I think 21, 22 years of age, 00:11:22.110 --> 00:11:24.610 in Virginia Beach, and I remember one of those 00:11:24.610 --> 00:11:27.250 revival services, the preaching of God's Word, 00:11:27.649 --> 00:11:29.970 and I remember a young man named Ronnie, he came 00:11:29.970 --> 00:11:32.169 up to me and he said, brother Matt, Boy, the 00:11:32.169 --> 00:11:34.750 God worked in my heart. He said, I've got these 00:11:34.750 --> 00:11:36.830 books, and I've got these things that are displeasing 00:11:36.830 --> 00:11:38.870 to God, and I don't just want to throw them in 00:11:38.870 --> 00:11:42.190 the trash. I want to burn them. He says, will 00:11:42.190 --> 00:11:44.730 you help me? At that period of time, I lived 00:11:44.730 --> 00:11:48.789 on a boat. I was in the Navy. I said, sure. So 00:11:48.789 --> 00:11:51.389 we drove on Indian River Road. He gathered up 00:11:51.389 --> 00:11:53.830 his witchcraft books and his different books. 00:11:54.110 --> 00:11:56.370 And I went into the 7 -Eleven there on Indian 00:11:56.370 --> 00:11:59.519 River Road in Kempsville. I bought me a Bic lighter. 00:11:59.980 --> 00:12:02.259 And then I said, well, he said, well, where are 00:12:02.259 --> 00:12:04.299 we going to do this? I said, I don't know. Let's 00:12:04.299 --> 00:12:07.440 go find this place. We began to drive out to 00:12:07.440 --> 00:12:10.779 Virginia Beach Pungo into the country, or what 00:12:10.779 --> 00:12:13.500 I thought was the country. We found a deserted 00:12:13.500 --> 00:12:16.639 road that was really not deserted. And in the 00:12:16.639 --> 00:12:20.039 middle of the road, we took that pile of witchcraft 00:12:20.039 --> 00:12:23.559 books and different things and we lit them. And 00:12:23.559 --> 00:12:26.919 all of a sudden, a bonfire. in Pungo in the middle 00:12:26.919 --> 00:12:31.379 of the road. It was great. It was great until 00:12:31.379 --> 00:12:35.059 that car started coming our direction. And all 00:12:35.059 --> 00:12:37.299 of a sudden he pulled up next to us and he said, 00:12:37.299 --> 00:12:40.220 I'm an off -duty policeman. What are you doing? 00:12:40.820 --> 00:12:43.480 I was dressed in my shirt and tie and I said, 00:12:43.559 --> 00:12:45.940 well, he's getting rid of his sin and I'm just 00:12:45.940 --> 00:12:53.620 helping him. And he gave me that look and he 00:12:53.620 --> 00:12:58.500 says, I'm gonna pretend I didn't see ya. Have 00:12:58.500 --> 00:13:05.960 a good night. I don't recommend that way, but 00:13:05.960 --> 00:13:08.220 what I wanna say is I do recommend getting rid 00:13:08.220 --> 00:13:11.899 of the idols in your life. Look at verse number 00:13:11.899 --> 00:13:13.940 two, if you will. Actually, skipped over to verse 00:13:13.940 --> 00:13:16.700 number four. Not only revival lead to destroyed 00:13:16.700 --> 00:13:20.779 idols, but in verse four, moreover, he commanded 00:13:20.779 --> 00:13:23.899 the people. Do you see that in verse four? Moreover. 00:13:24.190 --> 00:13:27.990 He commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem 00:13:27.990 --> 00:13:31.769 to give the portion of the priests and the Levites 00:13:31.769 --> 00:13:35.009 that they might be encouraged in the law of the 00:13:35.009 --> 00:13:38.129 Lord. And as you begin to look at that, all of 00:13:38.129 --> 00:13:40.590 a sudden Hezekiah realized that God's people, 00:13:40.809 --> 00:13:43.350 the Levites and the priests, they were neglected. 00:13:43.509 --> 00:13:46.370 People had forgotten the importance of taking 00:13:46.370 --> 00:13:49.360 care of the priests and the Levites. So he began 00:13:49.360 --> 00:13:52.039 to command them. He says, hey, revival should 00:13:52.039 --> 00:13:55.519 lead us to have a giving heart. Revival should 00:13:55.519 --> 00:13:59.299 lead us to be generous. Revival should lead us 00:13:59.299 --> 00:14:03.399 to give towards the work of the Lord. By the 00:14:03.399 --> 00:14:06.980 way, look at verse number five. And as soon as 00:14:06.980 --> 00:14:09.840 the commandment came abroad, the children of 00:14:09.840 --> 00:14:13.919 Israel, the children of Israel brought in abundance. 00:14:14.080 --> 00:14:15.879 By the way, the children of Israel, it doesn't 00:14:15.879 --> 00:14:18.500 say they complained. It doesn't say that they 00:14:18.500 --> 00:14:21.399 murmured. It didn't say that they gave grudgingly. 00:14:21.720 --> 00:14:24.240 There was a certain excitement about it. It says 00:14:24.240 --> 00:14:26.080 that they brought, right there in verse number 00:14:26.080 --> 00:14:28.240 five, they brought of the abundance the first 00:14:28.240 --> 00:14:32.059 fruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey. Brother 00:14:32.059 --> 00:14:34.700 Jordan, bring that honey. And of all, the increase 00:14:34.700 --> 00:14:37.740 of the field and the tithe of all things brought 00:14:37.740 --> 00:14:42.159 they, and it uses that word, in abundantly. abundantly. 00:14:42.279 --> 00:14:44.620 It continues halfway through verse six. They 00:14:44.620 --> 00:14:47.840 also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep and 00:14:47.840 --> 00:14:50.639 the tithe of holy things. In the third month, they 00:14:57.179 --> 00:15:05.759 began to lay the foundation of the heaps. What 00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:09.179 in the world is the foundation of the heaps? 00:15:09.220 --> 00:15:10.639 That's a good question, the foundation of the 00:15:10.639 --> 00:15:13.279 heaps. and finished them in the seventh month. 00:15:13.759 --> 00:15:16.480 And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw 00:15:16.480 --> 00:15:21.039 the heaps, the heaps, heaps, they blessed the 00:15:21.039 --> 00:15:24.759 Lord. There was so much grain.
