We are a Bible 00:00:15.980 --> 00:00:19.539 -believing church, and that means we open up 00:00:19.539 --> 00:00:23.100 the word of God, we read what the Bible says, 00:00:23.219 --> 00:00:25.660 we understand it's God's holy precious word, 00:00:25.719 --> 00:00:29.420 then we try our best. to have a ladder set up 00:00:29.420 --> 00:00:31.539 right there. That's gonna be interesting right 00:00:31.539 --> 00:00:35.659 there. But it's a joy to be around Bible believers. 00:00:35.780 --> 00:00:39.020 We know God's words quick and powerful and sharper 00:00:39.020 --> 00:00:40.859 than any two -edged sword. We've been in the 00:00:40.859 --> 00:00:44.359 book of Deuteronomy. The book of what? Deuteronomy, 00:00:44.560 --> 00:00:47.240 okay? The second giving of the law. You know, 00:00:47.439 --> 00:00:50.759 Moses led God's children out of the bondage of 00:00:50.759 --> 00:00:54.149 Egypt. They crossed the Red Sea of Destruction. 00:00:54.549 --> 00:00:57.369 They were meant to go into the Promised Land. 00:00:57.729 --> 00:01:00.270 They disobeyed God. And when you disobey God, 00:01:00.310 --> 00:01:02.710 there's consequences. They ended up having to 00:01:02.710 --> 00:01:06.450 wander in the wilderness for 40 long years. It's 00:01:06.450 --> 00:01:09.489 the end of the 40 years. Moses is about to die. 00:01:09.870 --> 00:01:12.430 He gathers the congregation of the children of 00:01:12.430 --> 00:01:15.230 Israel together. He gives them the word of God, 00:01:15.290 --> 00:01:17.489 instructions. He guides them, He directs them. 00:01:17.530 --> 00:01:19.469 When you get to the promised land, when you get 00:01:19.469 --> 00:01:22.370 to that land flowing with milk and honey, remember 00:01:22.370 --> 00:01:25.590 these things, remember what God says, and wow. 00:01:25.849 --> 00:01:29.609 And we get here, Deuteronomy chapter 34, this 00:01:29.609 --> 00:01:34.269 is the last chapter. This is, you might say, 00:01:34.609 --> 00:01:37.790 the servant of God, His final assignment. It's 00:01:37.790 --> 00:01:41.939 Moses, the end of his life, and really, We're 00:01:41.939 --> 00:01:43.879 gonna learn some things. You're gonna see some 00:01:43.879 --> 00:01:47.780 things. We're gonna see that God's servant, Moses, 00:01:48.760 --> 00:01:55.379 dies. God's servant, Moses, what? Dies. We're 00:01:55.379 --> 00:01:59.500 gonna find that Moses dies. And the title of 00:01:59.500 --> 00:02:01.840 the message, before I pray and we get into it, 00:02:02.299 --> 00:02:07.900 it starts with when God's servant dies. It says, and Moses, and who? Okay, 00:04:36.589 --> 00:04:39.529 Moses at the end of life went up from the plains 00:04:39.529 --> 00:04:41.709 of Moab. If you could sort of picture where we're 00:04:41.709 --> 00:04:44.410 at, we're gonna pretend that this right here 00:04:44.410 --> 00:04:49.490 is the Jordan River. I will be here in Moab pretending 00:04:49.490 --> 00:04:52.709 slightly to be Moab and Moses in the plains of 00:04:52.709 --> 00:04:55.589 Moab and it says he went up from the plains of 00:04:55.589 --> 00:05:01.170 Moab unto the mountain of what? Nebo. So Moses 00:05:01.170 --> 00:05:05.170 went up the mountain of Nebo and began to climb 00:05:05.170 --> 00:05:08.949 up the mountain of Nebo. It says to the top of 00:05:08.949 --> 00:05:12.110 Pisgah and we begin to think of Pisgah. There's 00:05:12.110 --> 00:05:14.850 this mountain called Nebo but at the top of the 00:05:14.850 --> 00:05:17.560 mountain is a place called Pisgah, that's right 00:05:17.560 --> 00:05:19.339 here. That's where I'm going to stand eventually. 00:05:20.819 --> 00:05:24.699 No, that's a little bit too high. But Pisgah, 00:05:24.779 --> 00:05:27.560 I went up to Pisgah. It's OK. You're OK. You're 00:05:27.560 --> 00:05:31.839 OK. I'm OK. You're OK. OK. Look at this, if you 00:05:31.839 --> 00:05:35.160 will. He went to the top of Pisgah. Pisgah is 00:05:35.160 --> 00:05:39.459 that place at the top of Mount Nebo. And he begins 00:05:39.459 --> 00:05:44.269 to look over into the promised land. And the 00:05:44.269 --> 00:05:48.310 Lord showed him all the land of Gilead unto Dan. 00:05:48.509 --> 00:05:50.829 I don't mean to give you a little bit of a geography 00:05:50.829 --> 00:05:54.129 lesson, but on the other side of Jordan, up to 00:05:54.129 --> 00:05:57.550 the north over there is the region of Dan. Around 00:05:57.550 --> 00:06:00.889 Dan, there's a mount called Mount Hermon. And 00:06:00.889 --> 00:06:02.649 Mount Hermon, if you're in Israel, you look up 00:06:02.649 --> 00:06:05.589 to Mount Hermon, has snow on there. In the spring, 00:06:06.129 --> 00:06:08.829 the waters of Hermon begin to melt. They go to 00:06:08.829 --> 00:06:12.110 the region of Dan. They eventually travel into 00:06:12.110 --> 00:06:16.579 the Jor. Dan River, the Jordan River, the waters 00:06:16.579 --> 00:06:19.360 from Dan, and begin to flow down into the Sea 00:06:19.360 --> 00:06:22.360 of Galilee, into the Dead Sea right there. Continue 00:06:22.360 --> 00:06:25.500 on, if you will, and look it with me in verse 00:06:25.500 --> 00:06:31.519 number two. and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh 00:06:31.519 --> 00:06:33.899 and all the land of Judah under the utmost sea. 00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:36.160 He looks out into the promised land. That's where the Mediterranean or 00:06:48.379 --> 00:06:51.459 the utmost sea. And God gives him the ability 00:06:51.459 --> 00:06:55.139 not to go into the promised land, but to see. 00:06:55.199 --> 00:06:59.160 the promised land. And wow, in verse three, and 00:06:59.160 --> 00:07:01.819 the south and the plain of the valley of Jericho, 00:07:01.939 --> 00:07:04.420 oh, look at Jericho right there where Miss Rhonda 00:07:04.420 --> 00:07:07.120 is. And Jericho, remember, eventually Joshua's 00:07:07.120 --> 00:07:09.459 gonna get there and Joshua fought the battle 00:07:09.459 --> 00:07:12.220 of Jericho, the city of palm trees under Zohar. 00:07:12.560 --> 00:07:15.279 And the Lord said unto him, this is the land. 00:07:15.319 --> 00:07:17.180 Look at verse four, everybody look at this. And this 00:07:47.139 --> 00:07:49.879 gets to the first part of the sermon. It's very 00:07:49.879 --> 00:07:52.079 important for us to understand. And I'm gonna 00:07:52.079 --> 00:07:55.759 read from my notes to make sure I don't, the 00:07:55.759 --> 00:08:00.420 promised land. God makes promises, and God's 00:08:00.420 --> 00:08:06.360 promises are true. Okay, Moses goes up. And he 00:08:06.360 --> 00:08:08.519 shows them the land right there, and he all of 00:08:08.519 --> 00:08:10.579 a sudden begins reading, hey, though I don't 00:08:10.579 --> 00:08:13.860 get to go over to the promised land, boy, when 00:08:13.860 --> 00:08:16.740 I see the promised land, praise God, the promises 00:08:16.740 --> 00:08:24.240 of God are true. Okay. I shouldn't treat the 00:08:24.240 --> 00:08:26.600 Bible maybe like that, Brother Alec Gray, but 00:08:26.600 --> 00:08:30.259 the Bible, it's God's holy precious word. God's 00:08:30.259 --> 00:08:32.559 word's a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my 00:08:32.559 --> 00:08:36.139 path. God's word is quick and powerful and sharper 00:08:36.139 --> 00:08:39.700 than any two -edged sword. And that 00:10:40.580 --> 00:10:42.940 moment he stopped, he says, well, I don't know 00:10:42.940 --> 00:10:46.139 if I really believe that. I don't know whether 00:10:46.139 --> 00:10:49.179 I believe the promises of God. Now, this is very 00:10:49.179 --> 00:10:51.899 important for the sermon this morning, because 00:10:51.899 --> 00:10:53.759 this is very important. These are the promises 00:10:53.759 --> 00:10:58.320 of God. There is a God. God created us. God gave 00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:01.740 us life. God gave us breath. But God also gave 00:11:01.740 --> 00:11:05.700 us an instruction book, a guide book, a command 00:11:05.700 --> 00:11:09.480 book, a book filled with exceeding, great and 00:11:09.480 --> 00:11:12.960 precious promises. That decision for that fella, 00:11:13.019 --> 00:11:15.399 by the way, he said, I don't know if I believe 00:11:15.399 --> 00:11:17.700 that. I'm having a hard time believing that. 00:11:18.200 --> 00:11:20.559 And that's OK. I understand that. But I said, 00:11:20.659 --> 00:11:23.480 can I pray with you? And I prayed with him. I 00:11:23.480 --> 00:11:25.940 bowed my head. I got on my knees. And I said, 00:11:26.259 --> 00:11:30.000 God. Show this young man that your promises are 00:11:30.000 --> 00:11:33.259 true. Show him that, and I begged with him, by 00:11:33.259 --> 00:11:35.019 the way, afterwards to read the Bible, but I 00:11:35.019 --> 00:11:37.799 prayed and said, God, show him clearly, soon, 00:11:37.820 --> 00:11:40.259 that these promises are your word and that he 00:11:40.259 --> 00:11:42.860 needs to live by them and that the Bible shows 00:11:42.860 --> 00:11:44.899 him the way to heaven. And I remember praying 00:11:44.899 --> 00:11:47.740 that right there, but here's the truth. I can't 00:11:47.740 --> 00:11:49.600 force anybody to believe the promises of God. 00:11:50.080 --> 00:11:52.840 They are true. The promises of God are true, 00:11:53.279 --> 00:11:55.500 but you have to make a decision for yourself. 00:11:55.789 --> 00:11:58.750 And that man right there at that moment, if he 00:11:58.750 --> 00:12:01.669 chooses not to believe the promises of God, it 00:12:01.669 --> 00:12:04.169 takes him on a certain path. By the way, that 00:12:04.169 --> 00:12:07.309 path, according to the Bible, is a path of destruction. 00:12:07.629 --> 00:12:10.370 But if all of a sudden he chooses to believe 00:12:10.370 --> 00:12:13.129 the promises of God, live by the promise of God, 00:12:13.289 --> 00:12:15.769 it takes him in a path of blessing. It takes 00:12:15.769 --> 00:12:18.590 him in a path of where God helps and guides him 00:12:18.590 --> 00:12:21.250 right there. And I got to preach 00:14:10.730 --> 00:14:12.789 the Word of God. What about I got to preach for 00:14:12.789 --> 00:14:15.269 a missionary in the Philippines and in Italy. 00:14:15.610 --> 00:14:18.289 I got to preach all over America in so many different 00:14:18.289 --> 00:14:20.509 ways. And then I thought about, and as I was 00:14:20.509 --> 00:14:22.039 sitting there, I was thinking about it. And all of a sudden I begin 00:14:40.139 --> 00:14:45.360 to roll my eyes. Here's what we strive, not to be the great 00:15:05.629 --> 00:15:10.590 illustrious so -and -so or the wonderful so -and 00:15:10.590 --> 00:15:16.870 -so, but Moses, the servant of the Lord. That 00:15:16.870 --> 00:15:20.909 could be the greatest title you could ever have. 00:15:21.429 --> 00:15:24.230 Servant of the Lord is one who belongs to God 00:15:24.230 --> 00:15:28.210 and lives to do his will. God's servant belongs 00:15:28.210 --> 00:15:31.649 to God and obeys God. And I said 00:22:12.680 --> 00:22:16.220 to him, I said, why didn't you ever write a book 00:22:16.220 --> 00:22:19.119 about this man of God's life? You knew him very 00:22:19.119 --> 00:22:21.380 well. You worked with him very well. Why didn't 00:22:21.380 --> 00:22:24.519 you write a book about this great man of God's 00:22:24.519 --> 00:22:28.049 life? And he said, well, I wanted to. He said, 00:22:28.730 --> 00:22:32.990 but his daughter was the one that was going to 00:22:32.990 --> 00:22:34.970 write that book. And she eventually, 00:23:17.799 --> 00:23:20.000 she wouldn't get out of bed. She lived depressed. 00:23:20.559 --> 00:23:23.539 And in her mind, she kept saying, why God did 00:23:23.539 --> 00:23:26.140 you take him? I can't live without him. I can't 00:23:26.140 --> 00:23:28.359 function without him. He was my leader. He was 00:23:28.359 --> 00:23:31.420 my God. He was my strength. I can't make it. 00:23:31.420 --> 00:23:34.660 I can't live. And she began to maybe get out 00:23:34.660 --> 00:23:37.720 of bed for a church service every once in a while. 00:23:37.759 --> 00:23:40.539 But he began to spiral down. And 00:25:30.380 --> 00:25:32.819 it's a very important point right there, very 00:25:32.819 --> 00:25:34.680 important. How can you move on? How can I make 00:25:34.680 --> 00:25:38.640 it? Well, look to God, look to Jesus as the author 00:25:38.640 --> 00:25:41.519 and finisher of your faith. He did not say, by 00:25:41.519 --> 00:25:43.700 the way, he said, Moses, my servant is dead, 00:25:43.900 --> 00:25:48.259 but God did not say, my promises are dead. The 00:25:48.259 --> 00:25:50.920 promises of God are not dead. They're from this, 00:25:50.980 --> 00:25:53.400 by the way, can I just explain? So it's shocking, 00:25:53.619 --> 00:25:56.220 but Moses died. Do you know who replaced him? 00:25:56.220 --> 00:26:00.119 Joshua. Do you realize he died too?
