Welcome to the "What is prophecy?" series. Read by Hector Garcia. In today's episode, "Line Upon Line, Part B", we find that: Spiritual life cannot be borrowed, only discovered. Through Scripture and inspired insight, uncover why God invites you to search, and what happens when you finally do. Let us answer the question. Why is every passage of the Bible important? In Matthew 4:4, it reads. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. In Luke 24:27, it says. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. In Steps to Christ, pages 89–91, it reads. “We should not take the testimony of any man as to what the Scriptures teach, but should study the words of God for ourselves. The mind will enlarge if it is employed in tracing out the relation of the subjects of the Bible, comparing scripture with scripture and spiritual things with spiritual. We cannot obtain wisdom without earnest attention and prayerful study. Some portions of Scripture are indeed too plain to be misunderstood, but there are others whose meaning does not lie on the surface to be seen at a glance. Scripture must be compared with scripture. There must be careful research and prayerful reflection. And such study will be richly repaid. As the miner discovers veins of precious metal concealed beneath the surface of the earth, so will he who perseveringly searches the word of God as for hid treasure find truths of the greatest value, which are concealed from the view of the careless seeker. The words of inspiration, pondered in the heart, will be as streams flowing from the fountain of life.” Here is what it means to me. There was once a traveler, walking in the night. He carried a lamp. A real lamp. Bright enough, steady enough, given for one purpose, to guide his path. And yet, he stumbled. Not once, not twice, but again and again. Now that is strange, because the problem was not the lamp. The problem was the distance. He would not walk close enough. And so the light that could have saved him became a light he barely used. Listen closely, because this is not just about a traveler, it is about you. It is written, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” But a lamp does not light the whole road. Only the next step. Only the ground. Only what is near. And so the question is not, do you have light, but rather, are you walking close enough to it. Now consider another scene. A man stands alone, pressed by temptation, pressed by pressure, pressed by something unseen. And he does not argue. He does not explain. He does not negotiate. He answers with three words, “It is written.” Not, I think. Not, I feel. Not, I was told. But, it is written. Because he knew something, something many forget, that life itself depends on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Not some words. Not selected words. Every word. And here is the turning point, because many hear, few search, many listen, few dig, many repeat. Few understand that the truth is not hidden to keep you away. It is hidden, to draw you in, like treasure buried just beneath the surface, close enough to find, but deep enough to require effort. And that effort changes you. How? It slows you down. It makes you think. It makes you pray. It makes you depend. And in that process, the Word begins to live, not on the page, but in you. Now imagine a sealed book, a book no one could open, a book that caused a man to weep, because inside it was understanding, clarity, and truth. And when it opened, knowledge increased. Not worldly knowledge, but spiritual understanding, light given to those willing. To search. To compare. To meditate. Day and night. And here is what is often missed. God does not hide truth to frustrate. He hides it to invite. Because searching is not just learning. Searching is relationship. It is written, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love.” And that love draws, not forces, invites, not compels. So the deeper you search, the closer you come. And the closer you come, the clearer you see. And the clearer you see, the more you understand that truth is not information, it is transformation. And then something happens. The traveler changes. He no longer walks far from the light. The man changes. He no longer speaks his own words. The seeker changes. He no longer depends on others. He becomes something else, a watchman, standing, guarding, sharing. Because light received becomes responsibility. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” And so he speaks, not from opinion, but from experience, not from theory, but from truth, personally discovered, personally lived. And now, the mystery unfolds. The traveler, the man, the seeker, the watchman are all the same person. The one who chose to walk closer, to search deeper, to trust fully. And now you know. The truth the Spirit has made known. If you have a prayer request, please go to www.faith fundamentals.blog. Prayer meetings are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
