Welcome to the "What is Prophecy" series, read by Hector Garcia. In today's episode, Understanding the Word, Part B we find that We may understand truth until truth challenges us This episode reveals why prophecy cannot be interpreted through human reasoning and how surrender unlocks divine understanding Discover the hidden barrier that blinds the mind and the simple posture that allows heaven to teach the heart Let us answer the question: Why is it important not to simply follow our own opinions when studying prophecy? 2 Peter 1:19–21, it reads We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. “In Messages to Young People, page 260, it reads In your study of the word, lay at the door of investigation your preconceived opinions and your hereditary and cultivated ideas. You will never reach the truth if you study the Scriptures to vindicate your own ideas. Leave these at the door, and with a contrite heart go in to hear what the Lord has to say to you. As the humble seeker for truth sits at Christ’s feet, and learns of Him, the word gives him understanding. To those who are too wise in their own conceit to study the Bible, Christ says, You must become meek and lowly in heart if you desire to become wise unto salvation. Do not read the word in the light of former opinions; but, with a mind free from prejudice, search it carefully and prayerfully. If, as you read, conviction comes, and you see that your cherished opinions are not in harmony with the word, do not try to make the word fit these opinions. Make your opinions fit the word. Do not allow what you have believed or practiced in the past to control your understanding. Open the eyes of your mind to behold wondrous things out of the law. Find out what is written, and then plant your feet on the eternal Rock. ” This is what it means to me: There was a man who believed he understood truth. He had studied reasoned compared and concluded. Everything made sense at least to him. But something was missing. Not knowledge. Not effort. Not sincerity. Something deeper. You see this man approached prophecy the way many do: With confidence. With experience. With conclusions already formed. And without realizing it He brought something with him. Something heavy. Something unseen: his own opinions. And so though he read the words, He could not hear the voice. Though he studied the message, he could not grasp the meaning. Because prophecy was never meant to be understood that way. Scripture declares that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. That holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Meaning: the same Spirit that gave the Word Must give the understanding. But the man did not yet know this. So he continued Studying harder. Thinking deeper. Trying to make the Word fit what he already believed. And then, a quiet call came. Not loud, not forceful. But unmistakable Lay it down Lay down your ideas Lay down your certainty Lay down your understanding At first he resisted, After all, what could he trust if not his own mind? But then, another truth reached him: There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. And suddenly, what felt like strength, began to look like limitation. What felt like clarity, began to look like blindness. Because heaven does not reveal truth. To the self-assured Christ Himself declared, that these things are hidden from the wise and prudent and revealed unto babes. Not because knowledge is wrong, but because pride blocks the light. So the man did something simple yet costly. He humbled himself. He stopped arguing. Stopped forcing. Stopped defending. And he listened. Really listened. For the first time He opened the Word without trying to control it, without trying to shape it. Without trying to make it agree. And something happened. The words came alive, not because they changed, but because he did. The Spirit began to teach, guide, reveal. What had always been there, but had never been seen. Because truth Is not given, to the strongest mind. But to the surrendered heart, and then He understood something greater. This was not about information. It was about relationship. Not about proving he was right. But about becoming willing to be taught. Because the secret of the Lord Is with them that fear Him. And the meek He will guide, and teach, and lead. And so, the man who once thought he could see, finally saw not through intellect, but through surrender Not through effort, but through trust.
