6:12 influence over the young man 6:14 she worked for the state emergency 6:16 service and even suggested to jose that 6:18 he could join her this work was healthy 6:20 for him jose had routine discipline and 6:23 found himself to properly connect with 6:24 the community around him 6:26 but one year later all of this would 6:28 come crashing down as out of the blue 6:31 quentin smith would suddenly pass away 6:34 this was the last straw for jose after 6:36 quentin's death he completely withdrew 6:38 from society 6:40 he wouldn't socialize he wouldn't bathe 6:42 he wouldn't dress his bed and he wore 6:44 his clothes for weeks at a time 6:46 jose began to spend the entirety of his 6:48 life online finding his release on the 6:50 internet 6:51 he posted various artworks and poetry to 6:53 his facebook account but the content of 6:56 his work certainly disturbed his family 6:58 his art depicted bloody and violent 7:00 scenes often involving women in distress 7:03 all of which alarmed his family who were 7:05 all extremely christian 7:07 they asked him to remove several 7:08 facebook posts including a picture of 7:10 himself dressed as jason from friday the 7:12 13th and an image of himself holding a 7:15 knife to a girl's throat titled tim is 7:17 now single 7:19 his interest in violence alienated jose 7:21 from those around him and instead he 7:23 made several friends online as he felt 7:25 he could relate to them more Rebecca Wild 7:27 one of these friends was 15 year old 7:28 rebecca wilde from port pirie 7:31 rebecca was an alternative teenager 7:33 going through her formative years 7:34 she was funny friendly and genuine and 7:37 eventually her and jose began to talk on 7:39 facebook very often 7:41 they related to each other's taste in 7:42 music and both enjoyed creating art and 7:44 photography and sharing their art online 7:47 a few surviving pieces can still be 7:48 found on their deviantart accounts today 7:51 their interactions online were mostly of 7:53 jose trying to appease rebecca and in 7:55 the year 2011 she was only 15. 7:58 on the other hand jose was 18 but 8:00 despite the age gap he had grown quite a 8:02 crush on the young girl 8:04 so let's talk about jose's and rebecca's 8:06 relationship 8:07 moving into the year 2012 it had 8:09 progressed from the occasional comment 8:11 into conversations each and every day 8:14 as like many teenagers rebecca often 8:16 vented her frustrations and thoughts 8:17 online she complained that she wasn't 8:19 happy at home had no friends and was 8:22 bullied 8:23 a situation that jose felt he could 8:24 relate to jose reassured her on the 8:27 daily and it seemed his romantic efforts 8:29 wouldn't go to waste either 8:31 however it seemed he may have got more 8:33 than he'd bargained for 8:36 the pair finally met in person that june 8:38 in port pirie all while jose was on an 8:40 scs training course 8:41 this initial meeting went very well and 8:43 it brought the two of them even closer 8:45 together prompting jose to make another 8:47 trip down to port pirie to meet her at 8:49 home 8:50 despite not having a driver's license he 8:52 drove down in the smith family's car to 8:54 see rebecca for a second time 8:56 the two got takeaway and watched 8:58 nightmare on elm street before ending 8:59 the night with a kiss 9:01 from here on out the relationship turned 9:03 full throttle which actually wasn't what 9:05 jose bargained for rebecca wanted to 9:07 become facebook married and wanted to 9:09 seriously commit to the young man 9:11 things became too much for jose when 9:13 rebecca asked him if she wanted a baby 9:15 with him there was no way that he wanted 9:17 a kid with a 16 year old girl 9:19 communication between the two began to 9:21 destabilize after this the misfit couple 9:24 were clearly misaligned and considering 9:26 the implications involved maybe their 9:28 relationship should have stopped here 9:30 but unfortunately two weeks later jose 9:32 decided to kick-start their relationship 9:34 again and even more so a big surprise to 9:37 rebecca he wanted to meet up in person 9:39 this was very sudden and out of the blue 9:42 but in rebecca's mind she loved jose she 9:44 therefore agreed to meet him in a local 9:46 area 9:47 on december the 5th 2012 jose walked to 9:50 his workplace the emergency service 9:52 station and stole one of the toyota utes 9:54 used for surveying he placed an 9:56 emergency service kit behind her seat 9:58 and inside 10:00 lay a knife and an axe 10:02 dressed in a nine maiden shirt black 10:04 jeans and heavy boots jose then pulled 10:07 away 10:08 and his destination was rebecca December 5th, 2012 10:16 driving down to port pirie jose asked 10:18 rebecca to meet him at a local memorial 10:20 park 10:20 and after making the 80 mile journey to 10:22 meet her the two found each other as 10:24 planned 10:25 rebecca stepped into the truck and 10:27 driving away jose tried to find 10:29 somewhere quiet and private so they 10:31 could hash things out 10:33 while driving the pair began to talk 10:35 jose shared that he wasn't looking for 10:37 anything too serious and all in the 10:39 meanwhile rebecca accused jose of 10:41 leading her on that he was simply trying 10:42 to sleep with her and nothing else 10:45 jose already had harrowing plans but 10:48 rebecca's next surprise would do more to 10:50 motivate him 10:51 it was during this talk that rebecca let 10:53 slip that she was already seeing other 10:55 guys since jose had left her 10:57 and even though jose claimed he didn't 10:59 want a relationship 11:00 this new information enraged him 11:03 only minutes into the argument he 11:04 snapped 11:06 reaching behind the seat he tucked his 11:07 hand into the emergency service kit 11:10 grasping the wooden handle of the knife 11:12 jose began to furiously stab rebecca 11:14 across her arm and in fact all of this 11:16 was while driving he delivered a total 11:19 of 29 stab wounds to her right arm and 11:21 shoulder 11:22 rebecca cried out in pain begging him to 11:24 stop and to take her to the hospital 11:26 but jose refused 11:28 he knew doing this would mean many years 11:30 behind bars 11:31 and tragically keeping her alive was 11:33 also the entire opposite to his plan 11:35 which as of right now was to continue 11:37 driving her north 11:39 with rebecca falling in and out of 11:41 consciousness jose proceeded to drive 90 11:43 miles north of port pirie 11:46 this would take him back to corn through 11:47 the main street and then further north 11:50 he then found a secluded road and 11:51 finally stopped the car 11:54 jose then got out of the ute walked the 11:56 boot and began to shuffle items around 11:58 in the back 12:00 he was looking for something to cover 12:01 rebecca's body with after the deed was 12:03 done 12:04 that was when he heard a sudden thud 12:08 in her state of semi-consciousness 12:09 rebecca had managed to climb out of the 12:11 truck and was now attempting to crawl 12:13 away 12:14 sadly this didn't work she was then 12:16 grabbed by jose and hoisted back into 12:17 the passenger seat 12:19 however his efforts were then 12:20 interrupted by the headlights of an 12:22 incoming vehicle and getting closer it 12:25 stopped in front of his ute An unexpected witness... 12:29 behind the wheel was 22 year old jesse 12:31 fullerton a local woman famous in the 12:33 area as the camel jockey 12:35 in fact josie recognized her from his 12:37 drinking sessions at the local hotel 12:40 jessie climbed out of the vehicle she 12:42 was a small woman and this was due to 12:44 her diagnosis of dwarfism which jessie 12:46 never let hold her back 12:48 immediately after stepping out of a 12:50 vehicle she knew something was very 12:52 wrong 12:53 jose was shifty shouting towards jessie 12:56 he reassured her that everything was 12:58 fine and he was just out for a late 13:00 night drive 13:01 but jessie could see a figure in the 13:02 passenger seat so she knew that jose was 13:04 not alone 13:06 small in stature jessie had a very 13:08 self-assured personality she 13:10 courageously walked up to the vehicle 13:12 ignoring her gut feeling 13:14 after opening the passenger door the 13:16 horrific size of rebecca half-conscious 13:18 and covered in blood came to her 13:20 attention and shouting to jose she asked 13:22 him what had he done 13:24 in the midst of her sudden panic jose 13:26 had walked to the back of the truck and 13:28 pulled out the axe he'd prepared earlier 13:31 with jesse's back turned jose lifted the 13:33 axe above his head 13:35 he struck jesse a total of seven times 13:38 and tragically this ended her life 13:42 witnessing the murder of jesse rebecca 13:44 began to scream and in a panic jose 13:46 climbed back into the ute and made a 13:48 u-turn speeding off he left jesse on the 13:50 side of the road only 100 meters from 13:53 her own home 13:55 all while driving jose then reached back 13:57 behind himself picked up his axe and 13:59 then struck rebecca in the side of her 14:00 head and after several strikes jose was 14:04 sure that she was dead Aftermath 14:07 pulling over several minutes later he 14:09 dragged rebecca's body out of the ute 14:11 covered her with a blanket and dumped 14:13 her wrapped body in a bush 14:15 throughout this carnage jose was now 14:17 panicking from his own actions although 14:19 he planned to kill rebecca jesse's death 14:21 was never part of the plan 14:23 and technically he was now a spree 14:25 killer 14:26 jose then attempted to cover his tracks 14:28 he drove back towards the scs station 14:31 stopped at jesse's truck along the way 14:32 to turn it off and took the keys 14:35 he then spent three hours cleaning the 14:36 truck before grabbing a shovel and a can 14:38 of petrol and after returning to 14:40 rebecca's body he then set it to light 14:44 anyone can tell you that burning a body 14:46 takes a lot of heat and a lot of time 14:48 and jose's fire burnt out very quickly 14:51 in a state of panic further disrespect 14:54 and sheer stupidity he then tied 14:56 rebecca's remnants to the back of the 14:57 truck and dragged her burnt body along 14:59 the road to corn cemetery 15:01 he then dug a shallow grave and buried 15:03 rebecca in it 15:05 after this and as the sun began to rise 15:08 jose returned to the ses station 15:10 returned the truck walked home jumped 15:13 into bed opened rebecca's phone and 15:15 deleted all contact history between them 15:18 and at 6am on december the 6th 2012 15:22 exhausted from a night of murdering two 15:24 innocent women jose went to sleep The investigation begins... 15:29 four and a half hours later at 10 30 am 15:32 jose was awoken by a gentle shake on the 15:34 shoulder 15:36 it was his foster mother margaret 15:38 she wanted to ask him if he had heard 15:40 from rebecca wilde 15:42 rebecca was now missing and margaret 15:44 knew her foster son was good friends 15:45 with her 15:46 to add to this being part of the state 15:48 emergency service it was also now her 15:50 job to help find rebecca 15:52 deceptively jose acted puzzled and lied 15:56 he insisted he had not been in contact 15:57 with rebecca for quite some time and 15:59 that he hoped they would find her very 16:01 soon 16:02 after margaret walked out of the room to 16:04 leave jose alone he jumped out of bed 16:06 before unscrewing a cabinet in his 16:08 bedroom wall and hiding rebecca's phone 16:10 and jesse's keys inside 16:12 shortly after this his mobile phone rang 16:14 and on the other end was rebecca's 16:16 mother 16:17 she knew that her daughter had been in a 16:19 lengthy relationship with jose and now 16:21 she was looking for help 16:23 again jose lied he claimed that he 16:25 hadn't seen or spoken to rebecca for a 16:27 couple months now 16:29 a rather odd thing to ask but rebecca's 16:31 mother asked jose for his facebook 16:33 password and to make this more bizarre 16:35 he actually gave her the password before 16:37 ending the call only to then rush to his 16:39 computer and change it 16:41 by now messages from several friends of 16:43 rebecca were popping up all asking him 16:46 if he knew where she was 16:48 jose was now in hot coffee as several 16:50 accusations were now coming his way 16:53 he dressed into his orange state's 16:54 emergency service uniform and headed out 16:57 to join the masses that were now looking 16:58 for the teenager that he had murdered 17:01 but after arriving at the station it was 17:03 clear that jesse fullerton's body had 17:05 already been discovered 17:07 everyone was on high alert they all knew 17:09 that now they had a murderer amongst 17:11 their community 17:13 jose expected that by joining the search 17:15 for rebecca the suspicion going around 17:17 him would be calmed he was however 17:19 gravely mistaken 17:21 rebecca's mother found everything about 17:23 jose extremely suspicious as despite him 17:26 claiming that he hadn't seen rebecca for 17:27 a while she knew they had met just the 17:29 very night prior 17:31 rebecca's mother passed this information 17:33 on to the police and they wasted no time 17:35 in finding jose to question him of 17:37 course he would deny these claims but 17:39 his story was weak and unbelievable 17:42 the officers asked him if they could 17:43 search his house in which reluctantly he 17:46 obliged and while there jose would 17:48 eventually see rebecca's parents pulling 17:50 up to his house 17:51 he knew that his weak story and multiple 17:53 mistakes would cost him dearly it was 17:56 only a matter of time 17:58 the pressure was too much and eventually 18:00 jose made the decision to come clean 18:03 he calmly asked to speak to sergeant 18:05 ranger a man that he knew on the force 18:07 and while here he told the full story of 18:10 what actually happened to rebecca and 18:11 jesse 18:12 sergeant ranger had actually recorded 18:14 the whole thing and in this video jose Confession tapes 18:16 can be seen confessing to his crimes so 18:18 neutrally and without any emotion i took 18:22 his shoes off 18:25 um where did you kill 18:28 rebecca 18:30 where's 18:31 scene 2 is 18:33 where the second scene is okay what did 18:36 you actually do there 18:38 to kill it 18:40 pull 18:49 after confessing to officers jose was 18:51 arrested escorted off the premises and 18:53 eventually taken to the multiple crime 18:55 scenes that he'd created 18:57 while here he was asked why he killed 18:59 rebecca and jesse in which he flatly 19:02 replied i have no idea 19:05 where was that that's it 19:06 in port perry yeah okay why did you do 19:09 that 19:10 i have no idea okay jose showed no 19:13 emotion no remorse he beared no tears he 19:16 simply accepted his own actions 19:18 throughout court proceedings his lack of 19:20 emotions persisted jose simply did not 19:23 care about taking the lives of two 19:25 innocent women 19:26 have you ever suffered from any 19:29 mental health problems or psychological 19:31 problems or anything like that 19:33 depression anything like that yeah i was 19:36 the person at the time when 19:38 a few years ago but you know 19:41 that's as far as i know that i've you 19:42 know anything any close to anything 19:44 so what what do you think's caused 19:46 what's happened 19:47 yesterday 19:51 like yeah tried to recall what my 19:53 thoughts were at the time but yeah 19:57 or even you know 20:00 just anger 20:02 full of anger but not so much anger then 20:06 you know i had no anger towards jess 20:07 because you know i had 20:10 you know she was a very 20:13 you know great person 20:15 but you know 20:16 moving into court jose sat through more 20:18 than 30 victim impact statements 20:21 these were from the family and friends 20:22 of his victims and still he showed no 20:25 regret or emotion 20:27 when he was asked if he wanted to say 20:28 anything to the grieving families he 20:30 simply said nothing 20:32 quite obviously jose had a severe lack 20:34 of empathy that was bordering on the 20:36 realm of sociopathic 20:37 he knew what he did was wrong he just 20:40 didn't care 20:41 and i'm just freaking out here so i 20:44 quickly run 20:45 to the back and just get the accent what 20:47 part of the car was the accident that 20:48 was on the back i'll put it in there 20:51 okay prior to going to perry okay why 20:53 did you do that because i was planning 20:55 to off back 20:57 planning to offer yep 20:59 with the axe yep it came today did you 21:03 have a reason for that 21:05 no Legal Proceedings 21:06 in the psychological assessments of jose 21:08 amonte extrada forensic psychologist 21:10 luke broomhall found his personality was 21:12 shaped almost from birth by the 21:14 difficult neglectful and abusive 21:15 upbringing that his mother had put him 21:17 through for the first nine years 21:19 he was likely to be a socially isolated 21:21 individual who has a few interpersonal 21:23 relationships that could be described as 21:25 close and warm 21:27 jose or monte extrada was ultimately 21:29 sentenced to two life sentences 21:31 he was given the possibility of parole 21:33 after serving 33 years behind bars and 21:35 this means that jose would be the age of 21:37 53 before he tastes freedom again 21:40 jailing him for 33 years in prison 21:43 supreme court justice trish kelly told 21:45 him he had a chilling sociopathic 21:46 disregard for his victims 21:48 in the summer's evening of december 2012 21:51 and yes i said summer because this is 21:53 australia jose had planned to take one 21:56 life but in a tragic twist of events 21:58 this intention would ultimately lead to 22:00 two Remembering Rebecca & Jessie 22:02 jessie fullerton's courage and kindness 22:04 would ultimately conclude her untimely 22:06 end she stopped for jose thinking maybe 22:08 he needed a help 22:10 she was a kind and self-assured young 22:11 woman who went through many health 22:13 problems in her life 22:15 her grandfather would say that she 22:16 always wore a smile through it all after 22:19 all she was one of the strongest people 22:21 that he knew 22:22 jessica was following in her 22:23 grandfather's footsteps to become a 22:25 professional camel jockey and she loved 22:27 to take care of all the animals on the 22:28 family ranch 22:29 moving forward she will be dearly missed 22:33 while jesse was killed for being in the 22:35 wrong place at the wrong time rebecca 22:37 was murdered with intention and anger 22:39 she was just a young girl finding her 22:41 feet who trusted the man she considered 22:43 as a friend and a lover and despite this 22:46 he would find the audacity to kill her 22:49 it is a sad and tragic story that these 22:51 two young women were lost to the world 22:52 by an evil and isolated young man 22:55 their deaths were entirely senseless and 22:57 they leave behind two devastated 22:59 families Outro 23:04 this is yet another frustrating case and 23:07 both murders held no logical motive 23:09 it is hard to predict if this was 23:11 avoidable 23:12 i mean in hindsight jose clearly had a 23:14 loose screw or five 23:16 but were the red flags obvious enough 23:18 the only obvious factor we can be 23:20 certain of here is that this case was 23:22 entirely senseless and these two girls 23:25 will be dearly missed 23:26 and so concludes the case of jose amonte 23:28 extrada 23:30 thank you so much for watching today 23:31 folks if you found this case insightful 23:33 then please remember to like the video 23:35 and if you're interested in true crime 23:36 then please consider subscribing too 23:39 as always
