0:00 as the daughter of a Pakistani Diplomat 0:02 nor Madam was a young Irish woman who 0:04 grew up between contrasting cultures but 0:07 after turning to Pakistan her life 0:09 became a nightmare when her partner 0:11 turned out to be a monster those around 0:14 them seldom saw the turbulence in their 0:16 relationship but in July of 2021 all of 0:19 that changed when no suddenly vanished 0:22 what followed was a terrible story that 0:24 centered around her partner a man named 0:27 Zahir Jaffer and as the news broke out 0:29 it would leave the country of Pakistan 0:31 reeling in 0:33 Anger welcome or welcome back to Coffee 0:36 House crime folks my name is Adrian and 0:38 today we're looking at the case of nor 0:40 Madam a story which enraged the nation 0:42 of Pakistan if you like your true crime 0:44 informative and your coffee strong then 0:46 please consider subscribing because I 0:48 post two videos a week Here and Now with 0:50 that said please grab yourself a coffee 0:52 pull up a seat and get ready for the 0:54 Deep dive this is the case of nor 0:58 madam 1:05 well well well today we're heading Pakistan 1:08 somewhere new and extraordinary a place 1:10 brimming with natural beauty and a very 1:12 different way of living so on that note 1:15 welcome to the ancient land of Pakistan 1:17 folks sandwiched between the Himalayas 1:20 and the Arabian Sea this country 1:22 displays some incredible contrast 1:24 between its many terrains from its tall 1:27 snow topped mountain peaks right the way 1:29 through to sprawling Plains and deserts 1:31 rich with flora and fauna there is a 1:33 huge amount of rugged natural beauty 1:35 here sadly though when it comes to 1:38 safety the international perspective on 1:40 Pakistan is not so favorable and 1:42 unfortunately that is reflected in its 1:44 numbers in the year 2015 this country 1:47 ranked 125 out of 141 when it came to 1:51 tourism leaving it pretty much at the 1:54 bottom of the table now the government 1:56 is trying to fix this by making its 1:57 ancient palaces temples and fortresses 2:00 is more accessible though quite 2:01 surprisingly tourism is still very 2:04 heavily regulated to certain areas 2:06 leaving most of the country out of 2:08 bounds to all foreigners when it comes 2:10 to Pakistani culture there are many 2:13 contrasting issues here too some of you 2:15 will know that female discrimination is 2:17 a massive problem in this country I mean 2:20 women aren't even allowed to cycle here 2:22 be it for commuting Leisure or exercise 2:25 Pakistani culture views this as 2:26 Unbecoming and overly sexual and as you 2:29 can likely guess this ban is not just 2:31 cycling but driving and many other 2:33 things too more than 50% of all women in 2:36 Pakistan lack basic education and a 2:39 scene of lower status than men in fact 2:41 Pakistan is even considered to be the 2:43 sixth most dangerous country in the 2:45 world for women moving forward this 2:47 country has deep religious ties with the 2:49 Islamic faith in fact more than 95% of 2:52 the population identifies as Muslim here 2:55 this is an extremely high percentage for 2:57 any country by the way I mean in 2:59 comparison only 60% of Americans 3:01 identify as Christian the capital city 3:04 of Pakistan named Islamabad is even 3:06 named after their religion which 3:08 literally translates to the city of 3:09 Islam anyway in the urban landscape of 3:12 Islam Abad is where our story unfolds 3:14 today distinguished as the safest most 3:17 pristine and economically affluent City 3:19 in the nation it has a reputation for 3:21 boasting the highest standards of living 3:23 in the country a predominant demographic 3:26 within this city comprises of many 3:28 individuals belonging to both the middle 3:30 and the upper classes and sophisticated 3:32 Condominiums and opulent public 3:34 amenities dot the urban canvas and 3:37 amongst this wealthy backdrop we can 3:39 find our central figure in today's case 3:42 that being a 27-year-old woman named no 3:47 Madam born on October the 23rd 1993 to Noor Mukadam 3:51 her parents shaat Ali and CA mukadam nor 3:54 mukadam emerged as the middle child 3:56 among her three siblings a tender 3:58 nurturing and affluent environment 4:00 enriched her earlier years courtesy of 4:02 her father's role as a Pakistani 4:05 government official and foreign 4:07 representative it was during her younger 4:09 years that the family relocated to 4:11 Ireland and more specifically to the 4:13 city of Dublin and all of this of course 4:15 was instigated by her father's budding 4:18 career still in her rather 4:19 impressionable years nor absorbed the 4:22 cultural ethos of Ireland imprinting its 4:24 many values upon her upbringing it was 4:27 here that she attended Our Ladies Grove 4:29 Primary and and then secondary school 4:31 where she would continue to have a happy 4:33 and carefree childhood living here for 4:35 most of her childhood nor fully 4:37 assimilated into her local Irish 4:38 Community forging long- lasting 4:40 relationships that would span for the 4:42 rest of her life she had two friends 4:44 that she was particularly close to and 4:46 between the three of them they forged a 4:48 very strong friendship with an 4:49 Inseparable Bond they all describ nor as 4:51 beautiful with an incredibly kind heart 4:54 and the three of them would often go 4:55 shopping in the local shopping center as 4:57 no was well known as a fashionable woman 4:59 nor truly felt a deep connection with 5:01 Ireland I mean all of her friends were 5:04 there she blended into the Vibrant 5:05 Community and there were so many 5:07 opportunities for growth so when she 5:10 received the news that her father's work 5:11 required the entire family to return to 5:13 Pakistan it is understandable that she 5:15 felt a wave of grief and disappointment 5:18 despite her desire to stay behind an 5:20 island and forge her own path she 5:22 unfortunately wasn't told enough to do 5:24 so yet and so with a heavy heart she had 5:27 to return back to Pakistan with her 5:28 family 5:30 now as you can imagine after growing up 5:33 in Ireland moving back to Pakistan was 5:36 quite a culture shock the societal 5:38 expectations for women in Pakistan 5:40 differed quite significantly and this 5:43 presented a massive challenge for no and 5:45 the rest of her family especially as she 5:47 approached the age of her own 5:49 independence thankfully being the 5:51 daughter of a diplomat their perspective 5:54 and expectations were quite different to 5:56 Pakistani standards as a result she had 5:59 the the support of her entire family in 6:01 almost anything that she wished to 6:03 pursue and so moving into her young 6:05 adult years no decided to focus on her 6:08 own creative abilities driven by her 6:11 passion for fashion nor sought to weave 6:13 her creativity by designing clothes she 6:16 also expressed her talents through 6:17 creating vibrant murals which neatly 6:20 contributed towards the community's 6:22 creative Beauty amid her Pursuits it is 6:24 important to note that no was a widely 6:27 cherished and admired young woman and it 6:29 seems through her many qualities that 6:31 they caught the eye of a 30-year-old man Zahir Jaffer... 6:33 named Zahir Jaffer as a man who also 6:35 lived in Islam Abad they crossed paths 6:38 in the year 2018 we don't know how they 6:40 met but regardless this encounter led to 6:43 a friendship and eventually a 6:45 relationship however in the unfolding 6:48 chapters of their new relationship nor 6:50 didn't actually know what kind of man 6:52 she was getting close to now Zahir was 6:54 the son of a very wealthy man and was 6:57 also a US national who spent most of his 6:59 time time in the United States and the 7:01 United Kingdom but the question is what 7:03 made him come back to Pakistan 7:05 unfortunately it turns out that Zahir 7:07 does not have a clean criminal record 7:10 and actually his charges Span in both 7:12 the United States and the United Kingdom 7:14 charged in the US and the UK for abusive 7:17 behavior and sexual harassment he would 7:19 go one step further and be deported from 7:21 the UK after being held on charges of 7:23 sexual assault but following his 7:25 deportation Zahir took deliberate 7:27 measures to try and conceal his previous 7:29 convictions and yeah he was pretty 7:32 successful in doing so because Noah had 7:34 no idea I mean had you been aware of his 7:36 terrible history it is likely that no 7:38 would have run for the hills and 7:40 remember with the Himalayas Pakistan has 7:42 very steep hills anyway both hailing 7:45 from rather affluent families Financial 7:47 concerns were never really a problem for 7:49 either Zahir or no and this was great 7:51 for no because she could finally pursue 7:53 her artistic capabilities on the other 7:55 hand though Zahir worked within the 7:57 family business and would eventually 7:58 inherit his father's business 8:00 development agency named Ahmed jaffron 8:03 company however the Dynamics of their 8:06 relationship were actually very far from 8:09 ideal Zahir exhibited a rather short 8:12 fuse and frequently lost his temper at 8:14 times this temper would even escalate to 8:17 physical aggression sadly statistically 8:20 speaking this is not an uncommon 8:22 occurrence in this country now this was 8:25 no news to Zahir in fact this Behavior 8:28 was unfortun Ely in line with his rather 8:30 troubling history of misogyny the man 8:33 had a track record of harassing women 8:35 through unsolicited direct messages 8:37 often employing offensive language and 8:39 explicitly sliding into women's DMS now 8:43 sadly I can't read these messages 8:44 without getting hammered by the big red 8:46 play button and unfortunately I had to 8:49 blur out a lot of what is said here but 8:51 for context one of those messages read 8:53 mut I need a nude pick to adjust my 8:56 stick I mean honestly what kind of WR 8:59 minded adult flirts like this despite 9:01 these alarming traits Zahir did manage 9:03 to hide most of his dark aside from no 9:06 and although he did unfortunately 9:07 routinely hit her she had no idea about 9:10 the rest of his ugly life this 9:12 dissonance between no's compassionate 9:14 nature and zahir's concerning Behavior 9:17 remained rather perplexing to mutual 9:19 friends but surprisingly no and zahir's 9:22 relationship would span for more than 9:24 three long years which as you can 9:26 imagine was littered and marked with 9:28 aggression toxicity tragically though 9:31 this tumultuous Journey would come to a 9:33 shocking and terrific end an end which 9:35 would cost one of them their July 20th, 2021... 9:42 lives in the early hours of July the 9:44 20th 2021 an unusual silence enveloped 9:48 the mukadam household nor had been 9:50 missing for 2 days now and although it 9:53 wasn't uncommon for her to spend a night 9:55 away the extended absence had heightened 9:57 concern within the family departing from 10:00 the family home 2 days prior at 9:00 10:02 p.m. on the evening of July the 18th no 10:04 was assumed to be going to her 10:06 boyfriend's residence and was expected 10:08 to return the following day despite this 10:11 she never actually returned home two 10:13 whole days had passed as the clock 10:15 ticked past 1:00 a.m. anxiety began to 10:18 set in no's father attempted to reach 10:20 her by sending multiple text messages 10:23 but sadly none were met with the 10:25 response and in addition to this all 10:27 calls made from her sister would go 10:29 unanswered it was only 4 hours later in 10:32 the early morning hours at around 5:00 10:34 a.m. that no's mother received a rather 10:37 concerning voice message from her 10:38 daughter nor was there but she seemed 10:41 distinctly marked by a sense of panic 10:43 the details of this message do remain 10:45 undisclosed but it is known that shortly 10:48 after this message the family received a 10:50 call from Zahir his demeanor always 10:52 struck them as strange but this time he 10:55 seemed distinctly different he 10:57 repeatedly mentioned that he hadn't seen 10:59 no that day and even more suspiciously 11:02 he emphasized that she was not currently 11:04 at his house however later that day on 11:07 the evening of July the 20th The Madam 11:10 family received some devastating news 11:13 their daughter had been found dead in a 11:15 wealthy neighborhood home and of course 11:18 it belonged to Zahir Jaffer the police 11:20 had become alerted to the situation 11:22 after a call was made to the nearby 11:24 mental health facility named therapy 11:26 works the call reported a man who seemed 11:29 to be in the middle of a mental 11:30 breakdown and that furthermore he posed 11:33 a threat not just to himself but to 11:35 others around him 11:38 too responding to the call police Aftermath 11:41 encountered a very harrowing scene at 11:43 the residence after arriving Zahir tried 11:46 to attack them with a knife therefore 11:47 leading to his restraint and eventually 11:49 his arrest and after stepping inside of 11:52 the property the authorities realized 11:54 that this incident was far worse than 11:56 they anticipated the master bedroom bore 11:58 Witness to a very gruesome crime with 12:00 blood stains on the walls dresser and 12:02 floor Norm Madam's lifeless body had 12:05 multiple stab wounds and tragically she 12:08 had been decapitated a large kitchen 12:10 knife which was identified as the murder 12:12 weapon was recovered from the crime 12:14 scene therefore leading to zahir's 12:16 arrest for the murder of his girlfriend 12:18 in the aftermath the authorities faced 12:20 the daunting task of reconstructing the 12:22 crime scene and all the events that took 12:24 place in the two days prior but as for 12:27 Zahir he remained un operative and 12:29 Silent however through surveillance 12:31 footage eyewitness accounts and 12:33 telephone records a timeline of the 12:35 tragic events could be made as we know What happened? 12:37 no left her family home at around 9:00 12:40 p.m. on July the 18th she then traveled 12:42 to zahir's place after he requested her 12:45 to meet him unknown to her at the time 12:47 but Zahir had actually booked them a 12:49 flight to New York which was due to fly 12:51 out later that night his plan was to 12:54 propose to her that evening with the 12:55 intention of treating her if she said 12:58 yes there was one problem though no 13:02 eventually rejected his proposal despite 13:04 being with him for 3 years already she 13:06 had no intention of marrying him put 13:08 bluntly he was quite a terrible partner 13:11 unfortunately though as you can probably 13:13 guess Zahir did not take the rejection 13:16 well he was undeservedly a very proud 13:18 man and to reject a proposal in Pakistan 13:22 is seen as a highly disrespectful action 13:24 I'm sorry it hurt your pride buddy I 13:26 think she was too good for you Adit is 13:28 anger Zahir called to cancel his tickets 13:31 to New York but frustratingly the 13:33 operator told him that if he was to 13:35 cancel he would not receive a refund at 13:38 around 11:00 p.m. a taxi that say had 13:40 pre-booked arrived at his house by now 13:43 though his evening had crumbled and so 13:45 as a result he told the driver to wait 13:47 outside half an hour had passed before 13:50 finally Zahir emerged from the home but 13:53 he was not alone in his shadow he was 13:56 angrily dragging no behind him into 13:58 which he ordered her to get inside the 14:00 taxi during the journey the taxi driver 14:02 observed a rather unsettling dynamic 14:05 between Zahir and no no remained in 14:07 complete silence while Zahir dominated 14:10 the conversation between them speaking 14:12 and shouting at her rather than engaging 14:15 in any sort of two-way dialogue however 14:17 on the way towards the airport Zahir 14:19 then abruptly instructed the driver to 14:22 return home when the driver asked him 14:24 about the sudden change in plans Zahir 14:26 claimed that they would no longer make 14:27 their flight on time and so the duo 14:30 returned home together arriving back at 14:32 the property at around 2:20 a.m. it 14:34 seems that Zahir was adamant about 14:36 having nor accept his proposal he 14:39 refused to let her leave the property 14:41 even to the extent of physically forcing 14:43 her back inside and sadly locked behind 14:46 doors and forced to face verbal and 14:48 physical abuse the following day 14:50 unfolded into a series of very 14:52 disturbing events ironically zahir's own 14:55 surveillance cameras became instrumental 14:57 in this case in documenting the extent 15:00 to which he was willing to regain 15:02 control surveillance footage reveals no 15:04 arriving at Z's Residence at 109 p.m. on 15:07 July the 18th the next sighting of her 15:10 occurs in the early hours of the 19th 15:12 when she is seen attempting to leave the 15:14 property unfortunately though she was 15:16 then physically restrained and dragged 15:18 back inside by Zahir in a rather 15:20 aggressive manner more than 24 hours 15:22 later and just after 7:00 p.m. on the 15:24 next day a distressing incident unfolds 15:27 nor who was grappling with desperation 15:30 jumps from a second floor balcony in a 15:32 desperate attempt to escape one thing to 15:35 highlight here is that this surveillance 15:37 footage actually captures the presence 15:38 of two other men in the background but 15:41 sadly both of them seemed rather 15:43 indifferent to the events happening 15:45 right next to them in another clip 15:48 another man can be seen beside Zahir as 15:50 he releases no from a guard Hut 15:52 tragically he had locked her inside 15:54 where she was then unable to escape and 15:57 regrettably this security guard did 15:59 nothing in that time to help her the 16:02 aggressive nature of these interactions 16:04 show how angry Zahir was at no and how 16:07 little he respected her quite simply he 16:09 was Furious that she rejected his 16:11 proposal and tragically he wasn't taking 16:14 no for an answer sadly these are the 16:17 last images taken of nor alive because 16:19 police believe that after being dragged 16:21 inside sahir snapped if Zahir couldn't 16:24 have no well then nobody could and so 16:27 after dragging her up upstairs into the 16:29 bedroom he grabbed his gun shot her once 16:31 stabbed her multiple times and then 16:33 decapitated her realizing the gravity of 16:36 the crime he had just committed he began 16:38 to panic and so he called the one person 16:40 he could trust that being his father 16:43 Zakir this call only lasted around 46 16:46 seconds and unfortunately we don't know 16:48 what was said during this time but what 16:50 we do know is that afterwards he called 16:52 his father's friend for 16:54 help in this call he said I am in a 16:57 terrible fix please help me come to my 16:59 house immediately robbers have come into 17:01 my house I am alone please come quickly 17:04 this call lingered for a little over 5 17:06 minutes but zah words were a chaotic 17:09 jumble lacking any form of coherence 17:12 concerned for his well-being the friend 17:14 promptly alerted his father Zakir into 17:16 which he said what is going on with your 17:18 son something does not seem right he has 17:20 never called me before I don't even have 17:22 his number saved on my phone I feel he 17:25 has gotten himself in a sticky situation 17:27 after the alarming call his father 17:29 contacted therapy works to arrange a 17:31 home visit for his son while doing this 17:33 he also frantically reached out to his 17:35 friends offering various excuses to try 17:38 and lure them to his residence upon the 17:40 arrival of the therapy works team and 17:42 then the authorities the grome discovery 17:45 of nor Madam's headless body unfolded no 17:48 surprise sahir Jaffer was arrested just 17:51 moments later four days later zahir's Legal Proceedings and further arrests 17:53 parents and two other male staff members 17:55 from the household were all arrested 17:57 Under Suspicion of being complicit in 17:59 the crime all of which was substantiated 18:02 by compelling surveillance footage left 18:04 at the property moving into the legal 18:06 proceedings of this case there is little 18:08 to no doubt that Zahir is guilty in no's 18:10 murder this was supported by a wealth of 18:13 evidence including phone calls 18:15 surveillance footage the crime scene and 18:17 eyewitness accounts now zahir's parents 18:20 were ultimately released however the 18:22 same thing would not happen for the two 18:24 guards who were present during no's 18:25 murder eventually both men were 18:27 sentenced to 10 years behind bars for 18:29 their complicity it is clear to see that 18:31 they failed to alert the Police when 18:33 they knew that Zahir was being violent 18:35 towards no legal proceedings commenced 18:38 swiftly after this and this was possibly 18:41 fueled by the widespread attention that 18:43 her case received on social media the 18:45 hashtag Justice fenor trended in 18:47 Pakistan therefore making way for a 18:50 larger conversation about violence 18:52 against women to take 18:57 place 18:59 only 7 months after nor Madam's murder 19:01 zah stood trial on February the 24th 19:04 2022 and despite the mountain of 19:06 evidence against him he arrogantly 19:08 pleaded not guilty he also claims to 19:10 have been wrongly convicted and although 19:13 the crime happened in his property he 19:14 believed it must have been a robbery 19:16 gone wrong while he was away you can 19:18 already see that his story was not quite 19:20 adding up though I mean apart from 19:22 nothing being taken from the property 19:24 decapitation seems a little far-fetched 19:26 for robbery and with the word that no 19:28 was murdered whoever had killed her must 19:30 have felt an intense level of Rage which 19:32 means they must have had a personal 19:34 connection to her now let's be honest 19:36 here this case was pretty much a slam 19:39 dunk in the courtroom and almost 19:40 everyone believed he was guilty I mean 19:43 at one point outside of the courtroom he 19:45 even admitted to killing her but legally 19:48 speaking this confession was not 19:49 admissible in court zahir's attempts to 19:52 deflect and deceive the courtroom proved 19:54 to be unsuccessful in fact they went so 19:57 terribly wrong for him that he ended up 19:59 receiving the harshest sentence possible 20:01 that being death by hanging no's family 20:04 and most particularly her father found 20:07 great solace in this judgment having 20:09 sought the death penalty since the very 20:11 beginning they finally achieved Justice 20:13 for their lost loved one now despite the 20:16 severity of his sentence Zahir had the 20:18 audacity to appeal he would even claim 20:21 that his punishment was apparently 20:23 disproportionate to the crime and 20:25 furthermore claimed that the media 20:26 attention on this case had influenced 20:29 the judge to appease public sentiment 20:31 now fortunately the judge would dismiss 20:33 A's appeal and further reconfirm his 20:36 death sentence I mean in zahir's case it 20:38 looks like justice truly mirrored the 20:40 principle of an eye for an 20:42 eye despite all of this his execution by 20:45 hanging is still yet to be carried out 20:48 this process in Pakistan can often take 20:50 years if not decades which is quite 20:52 similar to America the final verdict 20:54 brought relief not only to no's family 20:56 and friends but also resonated as a 20:59 significant moment for women across 21:01 Pakistan given the his documented 21:03 history of violence against women the 21:05 fear persisted that if not held 21:07 accountable he would continue his 21:09 pattern of abuse and potentially commit 21:11 further acts of violence in an interview 21:14 with the Press no's father summed this 21:16 case up with his own words we are 21:18 shocked and devastated and as her 21:21 parents we are completely broken 21:23 everybody has to go from this world but 21:26 to lose a child like this is difficult 21:28 difficult to take she was so young and a 21:30 gentle kind girl it's not just our 21:32 family who are grieving but the whole of 21:34 Pakistan I may have lost a daughter but 21:37 now we are fighting for all women 21:39 because this could be anybody's daughter 21:41 or sister shaat statement is true and Reflecting rights 21:44 comes from a man who has both 21:46 professional and personal experience in 21:48 this terrible fact women's rights stand 21:50 as a critical concern in Pakistan the 21:53 world economic forums Global Gender 21:55 index ranks the nation at a so bring 100 21:58 53 out of 156 countries concerning 22:01 women's rights compounding this issue 22:03 even further Pakistan actually Els a 22:06 nationwide law against domestic violence 22:09 this means that women are susceptible to 22:11 abuse from their spouses and partners 22:13 without them receiving any sort of legal 22:16 ramifications more than 30% of women in 22:18 the country have encountered some sort 22:20 of violence since the age of 15 and we 22:22 can only hope that some changes now come 22:25 after this 22:26 case nor Madam's death is tragic beyond 22:30 all measure she was on the brink of 22:32 realizing her artistic aspirations 22:35 enjoyed a rich Social Circle on two 22:37 continents and contemplated a future 22:39 that included starting her own family 22:42 she will be remembered as a kind caring 22:44 and thoughtful individual nor was laid 22:46 to rest 2 days after her murder at the 22:49 naval Anchorage graveyard in Islamabad 22:51 her grave becomes a focal point for 22:53 remembrance adorned with flowers on her 22:55 birthday and the anniversary of her 22:57 death even in Ireland where she once 22:59 resided friends organize a tribute walk 23:01 around her College in Dublin they take 23:04 this time to reflect on her aspirations 23:06 and of course remember 23:11 her bringing up the difference in Outro 23:13 culture between countries can be quite 23:15 the sensitive topic here on YouTube but 23:18 I think in this case it is more than 23:20 obvious that women's rights must be 23:21 improved in Pakistan the murder of nor 23:24 mukadam has already sent ripples 23:25 throughout the country and hopefully we 23:28 will see more changes coming in the 23:29 future but yeah I think that pretty much 23:31 wraps up our case today folks I know 23:33 that you all tend to like these sorts of 23:35 international cases so as always let me 23:37 know what you think in the comments down 23:39 below as a side note thank you so much 23:41 for your
