0:00 ah whatever all right I'll tell you what 0:02 happened all right so I got home I got 0:04 an intervie with my mom she slapped me 0:06 across the face she began to hit me she 0:09 started beating me I didn't like it so I 0:11 strangled her to death this is Gregory 0:14 Ramos and you are witnessing the 0:16 chilling moment where he casually 0:18 confessed to the murder of his mother 0:20 following a heated argument Gregory did 0:22 his absolute best to stage of the crime 0:24 scene as a burglary thankfully 0:26 detectives were not buying his story and 0:29 although they were initially met with a 0:31 wall of doubt they would eventually 0:33 unearth the admissions of a cold-hearted 0:35 callous killer but who precisely is 0:38 Gregory what triggered him to murder his 0:40 mother what evidence was found in the 0:42 wake of his confession and will he ever 0:44 see Freedom 0:46 again welcome or welcome back to Coffee 0:49 House crime folks my name is Adrien and 0:51 today we're looking at the condensed 0:52 story of Gregory Ramos now Gregory has 0:55 become somewhat Infamous for his 0:57 terribly blunt admission of guilt Coffee 1:00 House crime covers many liars and 1:01 Killers but this story will turn your 1:04 blood cold now there are several videos 1:06 already covering this story on YouTube 1:08 but with many of them far surpassing the 1:10 hour mark I thought I'd create one 1:12 that's a little more direct and that 1:13 focuses on the timeline and also 1:15 apologies for the change in environment 1:17 folks I'm currently away and recording 1:19 on business more on that in a week or 1:21 two if you're new here i' like to 1:22 caffeinate while I investigate Darkly 1:24 fascinating stories if that does sound 1:27 like a kind of thing please grab 1:28 yourself a coffee subscribe 1:30 and get comfortable this is the case of 1:33 Gregory 1:41 Ramos welcome to Florida folks now it's Gail Cleavenger 1:45 no secret that there must be something 1:47 in Florida's water because this state 1:49 always has the wildest stories when it 1:51 involves people and their behavior known 1:54 for its beach resorts amusement parks 1:56 warm and sunny climate nautical 1:58 Recreation and of course course Miami 2:00 Beach this place needs no introduction 2:03 whatsoever today we're swinging by to 2:05 Barry a small City on the eastern shore 2:07 of St John's river and also found north 2:10 of Orlando and one of those families 2:12 living there was Gail cleavinger and a 2:14 husband son and two stepchildren Gail 2:17 elain clevinger who was born on July the 2:19 4th 1972 was one of six children her 2:23 parents ran a tight ship in the garety 2:25 household and with four other sisters 2:28 and a brother her childhood was the 2:30 picture of a collected chaos but despite 2:33 the busy home Gail was a happy child who 2:35 grew up to be fearless and independent 2:38 interested in self-expression through 2:40 ART she began taking violin lessons when 2:43 she was little she was a dedicated 2:45 painter and even had a good hand for 2:47 sketching and drawing after graduating 2:49 from Meritt Island High School in 1990 2:52 she enrolled at the University of Miami 2:54 where she studied architecture and after 2:56 graduating with top marks Gail was ready 2:59 to take on the world with everything 3:00 that she had despite architecture being 3:03 a challenging industry to break into she 3:05 found her first job in no time 3:07 whatsoever and although she was 3:09 professionally soaring behind the scenes 3:12 in her personal life she was 3:14 unfortunately struggling with a rather 3:16 abusive marriage with help from her 3:18 friends and her family Gail finally 3:20 managed to leave her abusive husband 3:22 behind for good and move forward in her 3:25 life for the better and despite being 3:27 emotionally scarred from the trauma she 3:29 endured from her first marriage she was 3:31 still open to giving love a second 3:33 chance her second husband named Daniel 3:36 Clinger was just that person and now in 3:39 a better relationship Gail could fully 3:41 relax into herself and start a family 3:44 that she always wanted the year was 2018 3:47 Gail now lived with her husband Daniel 3:50 her son Gregory and his two step 3:52 siblings although she was now succeeding 3:54 professionally and many other aspects of 3:57 her life were going quite well she was 3:59 strug struggling to deal with the Gregory Ramos 4:00 increasing friction between herself and 4:02 her teenage son Greg born in the year 4:06 2003 Gregory Ramos was not the most 4:09 social kid on the Block while he did 4:11 have some friends he was also quite 4:13 comfortable hanging out alone due to 4:16 this reason Gail enrolled him into the 4:17 Boy Scouts and karate from a very young 4:20 age in the hopes of getting her son 4:22 involved in something both physically 4:24 and socially engaging taking it a step 4:27 further she was such a good mom that she 4:29 even even participated in these 4:31 extracurricular activities spending 4:33 countless hours with him in his Scouts 4:35 group and enrolling herself into his 4:37 karate classes by 2018 Gregory was 15 4:41 years old living in Valia County and 4:43 attending University High School he also 4:46 had several friends but by no means was 4:49 the most popular kid in school people in 4:51 his classes would say that Gregory was 4:53 innately average nothing about him stood 4:56 out in a good or a bad way in one of his 4:58 school projects he made a video 5:00 introducing first year students to their 5:02 new scho in this video he can be seen 5:05 acting with enthusiasm and slight 5:07 awkward nurse Now Greg would sometimes 5:09 see his friends outside of school but 5:12 for the most part he prefers to be in 5:14 his room or on his computer over the 5:16 years Greg had fostered an interest in 5:18 computer games and music as a side Hobby 5:21 and so with the top-of-the-line gaming 5:23 PC and a speaker setup in his bedroom he 5:26 often played and listened to music late 5:28 Into the Night he was also interested in 5:31 law enforcement and was a member of the 5:33 local police explorer unit teachers 5:35 noticed that Greg was a bright child who 5:38 didn't need much effort to succeed the 5:40 problem is he didn't care enough to 5:42 apply himself now Gail was aware of a 5:45 son's intelligence and lack of academic 5:47 drive it seemed that outside of gaming 5:50 and listening to music school was the 5:52 last thing on his mind this type of 5:54 parent teenager relationship is fairly 5:56 typical and I'm sure that many of you 5:58 have even been in the same sit situation 6:00 before however Greg and Gail never 6:02 seemed to find Common Ground Greg knew 6:05 that he was smart but furthermore he 6:07 hated it when his mother told him what 6:09 to do and although his grades improved 6:11 throughout most of 2018 in November they 6:14 once again began to slip biology seemed 6:17 to be his biggest gripe with him 6:19 routinely Landing degrades throughout 6:21 most of his assignments he didn't seem 6:23 to care for the human body whatsoever 6:26 which moving forward is a chilling 6:28 detail in this story 6:33 today's story pulls us to the evening of 6:35 November the 1st 2018 where the perfect 6:38 storm for an argument had silently been 6:40 building Greg's stepfather who typically 6:43 was the mediator in his arguments with 6:45 his mother was away on a business trip 6:48 and to add to that his step siblings 6:50 were also away too this meant that the 6:53 only two at home were Greg and his 6:55 mother and sadly considering his recent 6:58 grades they were already on a rocky 7:01 Foundation now as far as everyone 7:03 outside of the property knew the evening 7:06 remained to be uneventful the following 7:08 morning was unremarkable by all counts 7:11 too and as the high school welcomed its 7:13 students the day progressed as usual 7:15 with classes in full swing by midm 7:18 morning however after the school day 7:20 concluded the valua County emergency 7:23 hotline received a troubling call from a 7:25 very distressed young man 911 where's 911 CALL & BODYCAM 7:28 your emergency 7:31 um I I I just got home and the the my 7:36 house is completely trashed it looks 7:39 like someone broke in the side 7:41 door how long have you been how long 7:44 have you been 7:45 gone I I've been gone all school day um 7:49 I've got home are you there by 7:51 yourself yeah I'm how old are you I'm 7:55 I'm 15 7:57 okay and my my mom's car is here and 8:01 it's on and she's not home and she was 8:03 supp go to work today and I can't find 8:05 your mom okay okay your mom's car is 8:08 there is there any other way she ever 8:11 gets to work does she ever get a ride 8:13 from anyone else she no she it's on the 8:17 car is on it's turned on the car is on 8:19 and you're sure she is not there I 8:22 searched the entire place I've been here 8:23 for like 8 minutes I've been looking I 8:25 can't find her okay I want you to stay 8:27 on the phone with me we are not going to 8:28 disconnect until I have an officer that 8:30 is with you okay okay okay do we did you 8:35 see anyone leave the 8:37 house no okay stay on the phone with me 8:41 I'm making a couple of notes are you 8:43 safe where you're 8:45 at yeah it doesn't seem there's anyone 8:48 here I checked the entire house cuz I 8:49 was looking for her but she's not here 8:52 as the police responded to the address 8:54 at 35th Alicante Street they discovered 8:57 Gregory alone visibly disted stressed 8:59 and in a great state of panic as the 9:02 officers questioned Gregory their 9:04 colleagues examined the property the 9:06 evidence of a Breakin was glaringly 9:09 apparent the door had been forcefully 9:11 torn off its hinges and visible wreckage 9:14 was discernible both from the exterior 9:16 and the interior of the house upon 9:19 navigating the home the officers were 9:21 struck with shock at the destruction 9:23 that met their eyes this wasn't merely 9:27 just a burglary case because the 9:29 residence appeared to be thoroughly 9:31 ransacked and almost obliterated every 9:34 section of the house had been subjected 9:36 to chaos kitchen cabinets had flung wide 9:39 open and glassware and plates had 9:42 shattered on the ground in addition to 9:44 the Mayhem the police observed that 9:46 Greg's mother's car was still present 9:49 yet she herself was nowhere to be found 9:52 this information was concerning to 9:54 officers and Greg himself well he voiced 9:58 genuine worry about about his mothers 10:00 whereabouts after listening to Greg and 10:02 sympathizing with this heightened 10:04 emotional state officers took him down 10:06 to the local station to give him a place 10:08 to calm down being distraught confused 10:11 and primarily concerned about his 10:13 missing mother Greg definitely needed 10:16 Parental Guidance in the absence of his 10:18 stepfather with his stepfather away Greg 10:21 sought Solace and decided to reach out 10:23 to Ken Jones this being his sponsor and 10:26 close friend found in the police 10:28 explorers in a short time frame Ken Removing the mask 10:30 arrived at the station abruptly and 10:32 offered support and comfort to Greg and 10:35 now in a room with his mentor to his 10:36 left and an officer across from him the 10:39 officer asked Greg a few questions now 10:42 if Greg genuinely had no involvement 10:44 with this incident then you would 10:46 believe that he wouldd be willing to 10:47 provide as much information to officers 10:50 as 10:53 possible investigators expressed concern 10:56 over the visible marks all over Greg's 10:58 face he had bruises under his eyes 11:01 around his nose mouth and on his chin 11:03 this moment in the interview held 11:05 significant weight and expressed the 11:07 tone for what lay ahead because although 11:10 you would expect a relatively 11:11 straightforward answer that is not what 11:14 they received Greg claimed that he got 11:16 into a fight at school but was rather 11:18 vague and koi with the details in fact 11:21 he tried to avoid the topic all together 11:24 and couldn't even provide a surname 11:26 Sergeant pagliari sat silently as he 11:28 observed GRE behavior and Body Language 11:30 it became clear that over time he was 11:32 growing skeptical and so with that in 11:35 mind he began to poke further it became 11:38 clear that Greg was very uneasy he 11:40 displayed self- soothing body language 11:42 such as smoothing his hair rubbing his 11:45 leg and shielding his eyes with one hand 11:48 his crossed arms displayed a defensive 11:50 demeanor while he conveyed the 11:51 information to officers Greg recalled 11:54 his day to the officer specifying that 11:56 he was out all day before returning home 11:58 home at 8:47 p.m. now interestingly 12:02 enough but although he could precisely 12:04 tell the time of his arrival he could 12:06 not remember his dinner nevertheless he 12:09 insisted that the evening was like any 12:11 other night the dialogue then pivoted 12:13 towards Greg's relationship with his 12:15 mother Gail as sergeant pagari sought to 12:18 understand the Dynamics and although 12:20 Greg admitted that while at times his 12:22 relationship with her could be 12:23 tumultuous when asked if he would ever 12:26 lay a hand on her he replied with I 12:28 would never do such a thing in fact Greg 12:30 would go on to repeat this three more 12:32 times desperately trying to reassure 12:34 both the sergeant and his mentor that he 12:36 was not the type of person to be 12:38 physical it became clear that the boy 12:40 was trying his hardest to appear calm 12:42 and especially nonviolent but pagliari 12:45 he wasn't buying his story and then all 12:48 of a sudden around 1 hour into his 12:50 interview Greg suddenly 12:53 snapped what did they tell you I'm not 12:55 telling you what they told me cuz I 12:56 don't have to tell you what they told me 12:58 you tell me what 13:06 happened I already told you it 13:09 happened tell me you didn't kill your 13:11 mother I didn't who killed your mother I 13:14 have zero clue who took the [ __ ] out of 13:17 your house well you just told me 13:20 apparently it was my friends and when 13:22 did you think they did that I have zero 13:24 [ __ ] 13:25 clue do you honestly believe the things 13:27 that are coming out of your mouth 13:42 yeah so when your 13:44 buddy says that you told him you killed 13:49 your 13:51 mother he's 13:57 lying 14:15 whatever all right I'll tell you what 14:16 happened all right so I got home I got 14:18 an inter with my mom she slapped me 14:20 across the face she began to hit me she 14:22 started beating me I didn't like it so I 14:25 strangled her to death all right I put 14:27 her in a wheelbarrow I put her in my car 14:30 I took the car I had a mental breakdown 14:32 where I almost committed suicide three 14:34 times I drove around Daytona I dropped 14:36 the wheelbarrow in some random ass 14:38 location and I drove back to the church 14:40 I began to dig a hole I dig a hole right 14:43 under the [ __ ] fire pit um I dig I 14:46 dug a pretty deep hole pretty deep um 14:49 you know deep enough F body in all right 14:52 um all this time my mom's decomposing 14:54 body I dragged it from the from my car 14:56 to the to um the fire pit um in which 15:01 case I uh tried to cut the wedding ring 15:05 off her finger because I wanted to pawn 15:06 it but I couldn't because I didn't have 15:08 it nice strong enough to cut bones oh 15:10 well whatever anyways so I 15:13 uh uh Dug Dug that hole um threw her 15:19 body in 15:20 there filled it back in made it look all 15:24 nice and 15:25 natural dump my 15:27 clothes 15:30 and then I went home 15:33 and I caught a ride to school with my 15:36 [Music] 15:38 friends 15:42 and 15:45 yeah and 15:50 yeah what about the part that you stage 15:53 the crime 15:54 scene oh yeah I forgot about that part 15:57 oh so um 15:59 um in the middle of the night I realized 16:01 that hey my mom just up and disappears 16:04 that's not going to make any sense so um 16:06 I decided to make it look like a box 16:08 robbery so I just went in my house and I 16:10 just through [ __ ] everywhere um which 16:14 looked pretty convincing um and yeah The Crime 16:19 this distinct shift from being stoic to 16:22 oversharing may seem surprising but once 16:25 being confronted with the reality that 16:27 his friends had exposed him he realized 16:29 that he had nothing to hide you see 16:32 after murdering his mother Gregory asked 16:34 his friends Dylan and Brian to help 16:36 cover up the crime perhaps he thought 16:39 that they would have his back but it 16:41 suddenly dawned on him that they were 16:43 now being interviewed too as the three 16:45 boys began to divulge on what really 16:47 happened on that fateful day 16:49 investigators were able to piece 16:51 together a 16:53 timeline after a heated argument that 16:56 later turned into a murderous Rampage 16:58 Greg was desperately trying to figure 17:01 out how to cover up his tracks using a 17:03 wheelbarrow he wheeled her corpse 17:05 outside and loaded her into a van 17:08 driving to his nearby church he then 17:10 took a small foot path to a fire pit 17:12 behind the parish and then began to dig 17:15 a shallow grave for his mother once 17:17 scale was buried he then returned home 17:19 to rough up his house and then attempt 17:21 to stage in his own words a bunch to 17:24 robbery the following day Greg contacted 17:27 Brian and Dylan he he said to them that 17:29 he needed to ride to school and asked if 17:31 they could stop by to pick him up he 17:33 also mentioned that something big had 17:35 happened the night prior but was 17:37 hesitant to specify over the phone once 17:40 the two boys arrived Greg hopped in the 17:42 car and on the way to school dropped the 17:44 bombshell confessing that the night 17:46 prior he had murdered his mother 17:48 following this devastating news the trio 17:51 then went about their business as usual 17:53 before deciding to ditch class just 17:55 before sixth period they then returned 17:58 to Greg's house where Brian and Dylan 18:00 helped him stage the crime scene they 18:02 did this by first kicking down the door 18:05 next they emptied the drawers by 18:07 Smashing up cups and plates onto the 18:09 kitchen floor they then took various 18:12 personal items to Gail's burial site 18:14 hiding them in a nearby Bush interesting 18:17 side note but Brian and Dylan also took 18:20 advantage of the situation by keeping 18:22 some of Greg's possessions for 18:24 themselves this included his speakers 18:26 hunting rifle hunting bow and even his 18:29 gaming PC after returning to Greg's home 18:33 they then wished him good luck before 18:34 driving away and right away after they 18:37 left Greg made the 911 call to report 18:40 his mother missing in the end those 18:43 personal items that Dylan took home 18:45 would lead to his confession realizing 18:47 that he had his stuff officers could 18:49 trap him in a Lie by asking him how he 18:52 came to have Greg's hunting bow and 18:54 gaming PC in his possession soon enough 18:56 the young boy cracked under the this 18:58 pressure Brian on the other hand was 19:01 harder to crack he stubbornly gave the 19:03 officers a different story however after 19:06 learning that Dylan had now confessed he 19:09 knew that the game was 19:11 over so we now have two high school 19:14 students with detailed confessions who 19:16 were pointing the finger at their friend 19:18 this was enough for detectives to 19:20 actively apply pressure to Gregory and 19:22 eventually he caved with a timeline 19:25 established all three boys were taken 19:27 into custody and at the end of his 19:29 interrogation Greg was taken to the 19:31 church where he provided Grizzly details 19:33 over his mother's murder during this 19:35 trip Greg mentioned where his mother's 19:37 grave site could be found and also 19:39 mentioned how hard it was to put her 19:41 body into the hole it became apparent 19:43 that during this entire exercise he 19:45 seemed to be gloating about the details 19:48 while Greg was walking around both Brian 19:50 and Dylan were in the back of a nearby 19:52 patrol car unaware that they were being 19:54 recorded at the time they were asked to 19:56 detail all significant details of their 19:59 involvement during this time frame it 20:01 became rather clear that the two were 20:03 utterly oblivious to how much trouble 20:05 they were in they often joked about how 20:07 long they'd be grounded for and even 20:09 sang along to the radio eventually all Legal Proceedings 20:12 three boys were reunited in the back of 20:14 a patrol car and then transported to the 20:16 Department of Juvenile Justice after 20:19 arriving they were booked and processed 20:22 and after being detained Gregory Brian 20:24 and Dylan made their first appearances 20:27 on Sunday the 4 of November despite 20:29 being 15 years old at the time Gregory 20:32 was charged as an adult for the first 20:34 deegree murder of his mother he was also 20:36 charged with abuse of a dead body and 20:38 tampering with evidence to avoid a 20:41 humiliating and outrageous trial and a 20:43 possible life sentence he pled guilty to 20:46 all crimes it was highly emotional in 20:49 the courtroom that day with most of 20:51 Gail's family present many gave very 20:53 emotional statements including Gail's 20:56 siblings Joe Ivy and Lynn Gail's older 20:59 sister Lynn detailed the incredibly 21:01 difficult process of losing a loved 21:03 family member especially at the hands of 21:06 one of their own she said as I mourn the 21:09 loss of not just one person but two the 21:12 world has less depth and color and is 21:14 much less of a place because Gail is 21:16 gone when it was time for Gregory to 21:18 take to the stand he apologized for his 21:21 actions and how they impacted his family 21:23 he said because of my actions I will 21:26 never get to truly know my mom not only 21:29 did I steal my mother from myself but 21:31 from everybody else as well I have done 21:34 irreversible harm to the world Greg 21:37 ended his statement by asking for Mercy 21:39 for his two friends Brian and Dylan by 21:41 saying they do not deserve to be 21:43 incarcerated for my actions they never 21:46 realized the full extent of the crime 21:48 and when they were arrested they 21:50 cooperated with the police fully please 21:52 send them back to their friends under 21:55 the term of his plea deal Gregory Ramos 21:57 was sentenced to to 45 years in prison 21:59 for the murder of his mother and 22:01 although his elgibility for parole is 22:03 set at 25 years he will be on probation 22:06 for Life Dylan Kegler was not allowed to 22:08 post bail when he was initially booked 22:11 the court was concerned that his PRI 22:13 mental health history may lead to him 22:15 hurting himself afterwards and so for 22:18 the next 309 days Dylan was held without 22:21 bond by the time it was finally offered 22:24 to him at 22:25 $200,000 he had no way of paying for for 22:28 it by Monday February the 8th 2021 Dylan 22:31 had spent 828 days in county jail he 22:35 pleaded no contest to A reduced charge 22:37 of accessory after the fact to second 22:40 degree murder as a result he was 22:42 sentenced to 10 years of probation 22:45 facing Gail's family Dylan said I know 22:48 that it doesn't help with the pain the 22:50 loss and the devastation that mcalees 22:52 family feels it weighs on me heavily so 22:55 I'm asking for your forgiveness 22:58 recognizing his genuine remorse and 23:00 cooperation with the police Gail's 23:02 family replied with you are forgiven you 23:04 are deserving of better than what you 23:06 have had you are smart you are capable 23:09 you have a future you are not defined by 23:12 your actions of November the 2nd 2018 23:15 you are defined by what you choose to do 23:17 from this day forward on the other hand 23:20 Brian porz who was the other friend 23:22 involved was offered a $100,000 bond on 23:26 the day of his booking which fortunately 23:28 for him his family posted in the 3 and a 23:31 half years between his release on Bond 23:33 and court date Brian finished high 23:35 school and then started college and then 23:38 on July the 8th 2021 Brian made his 23:41 appearance in court while his defense 23:43 team argued that the previous three 23:44 years demonstrated Brian's ability to 23:46 live as a healthy constructive member of 23:49 society the prosecution and Gail's 23:51 family were not so kind the prosecution 23:54 asked that Brian be incarcerated for 828 23:57 days 23:58 that being the same number as 23:59 codefendant Dylan spent in County Jail 24:02 waiting for his court appearance they 24:04 then requested that this would be 24:05 followed by 10 years of probation in his 24:08 defense Brian claimed that although he 24:10 was helping his friend cover up the 24:12 murder he was in dispel for the entire 24:15 time his family members also testified 24:17 on his behalf describing him as someone 24:20 always there for his friends who had 24:22 expressed remorse since the incident 24:24 occurred and was trying to make 24:25 something of his life Brian's attorney 24:28 argued that although he did make a 24:30 stupid mistake there was no purpose for 24:32 incarceration here and he further 24:34 claimed that ran was now a productive 24:36 member of society although Gail's family 24:39 expressed forgiveness towards
