0:00 Harold was a respectful man in his local 0:02 community or so everyone thought but 0:05 when word broke out of his terrible 0:07 Behavior towards 18-year-old Sarah mclin 0:10 the news was sure to turn heads 0:13 unfortunately for Harold it was already 0:15 too late he had manipulated a vulnerable 0:18 woman who unbeknownst to him at the time 0:21 would eventually snap back in the most 0:23 violent of ways and all of a sudden our 0:26 Predator had become the prey so who 0:30 precisely is Harold sasco what did he do 0:32 to Sarah Gonzalez mclin how would she 0:35 react to his unbearable pressure and 0:38 what would her punishment ultimately 0:41 be welcome back to Coffee House crime 0:44 folks my name is Adrien and today we're 0:46 looking at a case that explores the 0:48 moral complexities of a victim turned 0:50 killer now AR as salent today is not 0:53 your typical run-of thee Mill murderer 0:55 in fact many argue that they shouldn't 0:57 be in prison to this day and so let's 0:59 let's explore this quite frankly wild 1:02 story and see which side of the fence 1:04 you land on by the way I post stories 1:06 like this weekly so if it is your sort 1:08 of thing please consider subscribing and 1:10 now with that said please grab yourself 1:12 a coffee and let's caffeinate while we 1:14 investigate this is the case of Sarah 1:16 Gonzalez 1:24 mlin welcome back to Kansas folks also Harold Sasko's disappearance 1:27 known as the Sunflower State home home 1:30 to almost 3 million residents Kansas is 1:32 one of the less populated states in 1:34 America but let me tell you behind all 1:36 of that corn there is plenty of mystery 1:39 and wonder if you go looking for it due 1:41 to its extensive Rural and flat land it 1:44 has become an agricultural Powerhouse in 1:47 recent Decades of course being 1:49 responsible for producing large 1:51 quantities of wheat corn sunflowers and 1:54 soybeans for the world to enjoy it is 1:56 also rather famous for its beef which no 1:59 surprise eyes makes it well known for 2:01 its American barbecues today we're 2:04 focusing on the Eastern City of Lawrence 2:06 near Kansas City and here lived a 2:08 52-year-old man named Harold sasco 2:11 better known for the rest of this video 2:13 as Hal born on September the 11th 1961 2:16 in Titusville Florida he was one of 12 2:19 siblings consisting of eight boys and 2:21 four girls his brothers and sisters 2:24 described him as the type to take charge 2:26 in almost any situation often delegating 2:29 chores to his parents and other siblings 2:31 around the house and just in general 2:34 being very organizational and so it was 2:37 no surprise that after studying at 2:39 College in Oklahoma how would go on to 2:41 start his own pizza restaurant and even 2:43 open a second one just 2 years later 2:46 naming both of them as Cece's Pizza this 2:49 led him to move to Lawrence in the late 2:52 1990s where alongside his then wife Anna 2:55 and their three-year-old daughter Amanda 2:57 he opened a third restaurant nearby in 2:59 the town town named toeka now Hal became 3:02 addicted to his business and his work 3:04 hard and only work hard lifestyle was 3:06 not one that his wife was comfortable 3:08 pursuing I mean there has to be a 3:10 healthy balance in everything that we do 3:12 right Hal was not just a business owner 3:15 but a husband and father too and his 3:17 wife and child deserved his presence 3:19 eventually this caused a massive Rift 3:22 between both parents and when his wife 3:24 could no longer bear living as a lonely 3:26 mother anymore the two decided to 3:28 divorce Hal wasn't Avid churchgoer and 3:31 he prided himself on not just being a 3:33 man of the Lord but also a 3:34 well-respected member of the community 3:36 he was known by others to be kind caring 3:39 and above all else a very organizational 3:41 manager so it would come as a real shock 3:44 to the community when on January the 3:46 17th 2014 their so-called kind and 3:49 caring manager suddenly 3:53 disappeared the day began like any other 3:56 Friday with the weekend right around the 3:58 corner many people traveled to work to 4:00 begin their daily routine and of course 4:03 that would be no different for the 4:04 employees at CC's Pizzeria the problem 4:07 is that after making their way to work 4:10 Hal's employees would be met with a 4:12 silent and empty restaurant Hal was 4:15 usually there to unlock and open the 4:17 kitchen but this time he was nowhere to 4:21 be found even stranger it had been 4:23 multiple days since anyone had heard 4:26 from him and so concerned for his 4:28 well-being his employees called the 4:30 police and requested a welfare check at 4:32 his home on West 26th Street an officer Dark Discovery 4:36 was dispatched to his property later on 4:38 that day and after knocking at the front 4:41 door he too was met with silence 4:44 knocking on the front window of the 4:45 property he then peered inside to see if 4:48 anyone was home and that is when he saw 4:51 the shape of a man lying face down on 4:54 the floor calling for backup authorities 4:56 forced the way inside the man on the 4:59 floor was confirmed to be how and 5:01 furthermore he was lying in a pool of 5:04 his own blood it became evident from the 5:06 outset that he had already passed away 5:09 and from the state of his body it looked 5:11 like he'd been dead for multiple days 5:14 and that furthermore this was no 5:16 accident his hands were restrained 5:19 behind his back with zip ties used to 5:21 keep him under control in addition to 5:23 this his feet had also been bound and 5:26 there was one other alarming detail 5:28 Hal's neck had had been cut so deep that 5:31 the bone within had been shattered and 5:33 with a cut so Grievous and bloody he had 5:36 no chance of surviving all of this was a 5:39 very violent scene for officers to deal 5:41 with to add to the commotion officers 5:44 would also find several beer bottles 5:46 across the room alongside a phone and 5:48 laptop that did not belong to Hal they 5:51 would also observe that Hal's car was 5:53 absent from the driveway yet the 5:55 strangest evidence Left Behind was the 5:58 word Freedom which had had been 6:00 haphazardly painted on the wall no 6:02 surprise it had been written using Hal's 6:05 blood Sarah Gonzales Mclinn 6:10 classic now obviously a sudden influx of 6:13 officers in the area caused quite the 6:15 attention from nosy neighbors and so 6:17 officers decided to use this to 6:19 Advantage and ask plenty of questions 6:21 and this is how they learned that 6:23 apparently Harold did not actually live 6:26 alone his neighbors claimed that he 6:28 lived with who he called his teenage 6:30 stepdaughter this of course was very 6:32 Vital Information for officers learning 6:35 this that there was now someone who 6:36 didn't just know how very well but was 6:38 also in regular contact with him and the 6:40 crime scene anyway this so-called 6:42 teenage stepdaughter was eventually 6:44 identified to be 18-year-old Sarah 6:46 Gonzalez mclin and apparently she had 6:49 lived with him for the last 2 years of 6:51 his life but the thing is Sarah was not 6:54 actually anywhere to be found and of 6:56 course this was deeply concerning to the 6:58 officers I mean they had no idea where 7:01 she was to begin with could she possibly 7:03 have been kidnapped if the answer was 7:05 yes then was she at risk of being harmed 7:08 or maybe was she the one to be 7:10 responsible for his murder finding Sarah 7:13 was now the authorities number one 7:15 priority as they had no idea what 7:18 exactly happened to her she could have 7:20 been kidnapped a victim a witness a 7:23 suspect or maybe even none of the above 7:26 either way finding her was now 7:28 absolutely necessary family members and 7:31 friends were notified of the absolutely 7:34 horrific crime and a vigil for their 7:36 lost member of the community was planned 7:38 to be held 3 weeks later on February the 7:41 8th the public was urged to contact 7:44 Douglas County crimes Stoppers with any 7:46 information regarding Sarah's 7:48 whereabouts with a reward of $1,000 if 7:51 any helpful information came through but 7:54 before we find out what happened to 7:56 Sarah who exactly was she how would she 7:59 come to live with her supposed 8:01 stepfather at 16 and how could someone 8:04 so young be linked to the violent murder 8:07 of Harold 8:09 sasco starting from the beginning Sarah 8:12 Gonzalez mclin was born on July the 9th 8:15 1994 in toeka Kansas she completed a 8:19 loving family of five alongside her 8:21 brother and her sister throughout her 8:23 childhood Sarah was known as a timid yet 8:26 kind child after being homeschooled for 8:28 many years she didn't have many friends 8:31 outside of her neighborhood however 8:33 that's not to say that she didn't have a 8:35 good upbringing her parents were lovely 8:38 people and she was always close to her 8:40 sister unfortunately when she was only a 8:43 pre-teen her parents would eventually 8:46 decide to get divorced which at such an 8:49 impressionable age was sure to leave a 8:51 substantial impact on her following her 8:53 parents divorce her late childhood to 8:56 teenage years would sadly only spiral 8:59 downward W Sarah was rather naive after 9:02 being sheltered by her parents and as 9:04 many of you know with naivity often 9:07 comes vulnerability people who are 9:09 willing to take advantage of that are 9:11 sadly never far away after the divorce 9:14 Sarah was inappropriately approached by 9:16 a neighbor and tragically was eventually 9:19 molested in the process this event had a 9:23 significant impact on Sarah's nature and 9:25 her behavior she began acting out in 9:28 ways very much unlike a former self 9:31 almost certainly as if the child within 9:33 her had disappeared very much to her 9:36 mother's dismay Sarah began to sneak out 9:38 at night and hang out with the wrong 9:40 crowd to make matters worse this would 9:43 also lead to her often taking drugs and 9:45 alcohol to drown her sorrows it seemed 9:48 that after her parents' divorce Sarah no 9:51 longer wanted to be within the family 9:53 home and so as a result and at the age 9:56 of 14 she secured a job to try and 9:58 strike out and live on her own and as 10:01 you may have guessed already this is 10:04 when Cece's Pizzeria employed her at the 10:06 time of meeting Harold he was 50 years 10:09 old and almost four times her age now at 10:12 first he may have seemed like your 10:14 average manager but let's just say that 10:17 his reputation amongst staff was vastly 10:20 different from the facade he thought he 10:22 showed the world for example how told 10:25 all the restaurant managers that they 10:27 could only hire young attractive of 10:29 women I mean that enough is one giant 10:32 red flag while working at the pizzeria 10:35 Sarah would wake up go to her job clock 10:38 out and eventually return to her family 10:40 home saying that she would often spend 10:42 her nights out drinking before stumbling 10:45 back According to some the only time 10:47 that she was sober was when she was at 10:49 work or at least as sober as she could 10:52 be that's because if you've ever gone to 10:55 work in the morning after a night out 10:57 you'll know exactly what I 11:00 mean despite often turning up drunk and 11:03 almost being fired several times over 11:05 the months she somehow miraculously kept 11:07 her job and that's because how seemed to 11:10 take pity on her he knew that she was 11:12 vulnerable and needed some extra support 11:15 but moving into her 15th year she 11:17 tragically experienced yet another 11:19 traumatic event it was on one of those 11:21 nights out that another man forced 11:23 himself on her to make things even worse 11:25 the scumbag even burned her with 11:27 cigarette butts I mean what kind of sick 11:30 person does that Sarah's already fragile 11:32 mental health entirely collapsed after 11:35 this she stopped going to work lost her 11:37 job lost her friends and slipped into a 11:40 very dark place and then less than one 11:43 year later at the tender age of 16 she 11:46 then tragically tried to take her own 11:48 life now thankfully Sarah's family found 11:50 her in just enough time to call an 11:52 ambulance she would goone on to make a 11:54 full recovery but that was only after 11:56 spending 5 months in hospital for 11:58 recover recovery the nice thing is after 12:01 being released from the hospital Sarah 12:03 would receive support from friends close 12:05 and far however one of those messages in 12:08 particular stood out and that was from 12:10 her old boss Hal following her tragic Hal's and Sarah's Relationship... 12:13 ordeal Hal offered to be her personal 12:15 life coach or even guardian of sorts he 12:18 would do things like pick her up take 12:20 her out for food and even allow himself 12:23 to be a sounding board for whatever was 12:25 on her mind with no one else to turn to 12:28 Sarah would eventually lean into his 12:30 support it was during one of their 12:33 outings at Taco Bell that she confided 12:35 her entire story to him that including 12:38 her tragic encounters with the other men 12:40 the drinking and all of the rest now Hal 12:44 knew that she wanted out of her family 12:46 home and after learning about the trauma 12:48 that she had been through he then 12:50 offered her a place to stay in his own 12:52 home with him which does strike me as 12:55 rather odd by the way despite having a 12:57 family home he here was this 50-year-old 13:00 man offering her a place to stay 13:03 supposedly out of the goodness of his 13:05 own heart this all felt just a little 13:07 bit iffy the problem is Sarah was 13:10 vulnerable lost and hurt hell's 13:12 suggestion offered her a way out of all 13:15 of that and so at the age of 17 she 13:21 accepted after moving in with Hal things 13:23 seemed to stabilize for a short while 13:25 after she found a new job away from the 13:28 pizzeria how took great care of her her 13:30 dog moved in with her and she was even 13:32 thinking about college but Sarah's 13:35 mother was quite understandably not 13:37 comfortable with the entire situation 13:39 she found Hal to be quite strange and 13:42 the whole thing just seemed to be very 13:43 bizarre in general I mean quite honestly 13:46 I'm not surprised she felt that way the 13:48 problem is whenever she brought this up 13:50 with Sarah it would always end in a 13:52 massive fight which of course further 13:54 pushed her daughter away Michelle didn't 13:56 believe that hell's intentions were 13:58 always as innocent as he made them out 14:00 to be even worse she believed that her 14:03 daughter was likely too naive and 14:05 delusional to realize I mean it all made 14:08 sense after all after the divorce her 14:10 father had broken all contact and now 14:12 Sarah was trying to fill that void Left 14:15 Behind to make things even more creepy 14:17 Hal would eventually ask Sarah to start 14:19 calling him dad or daddy and then of 14:22 course he would tell all the neighbors 14:24 that she was his stepdaughter no 14:26 surprise but Sarah's co-workers would 14:27 eventually catch on to all of this and 14:29 then ask her what her relationship was 14:31 with how I mean it made all of them feel 14:34 very uncomfortable now whenever asked 14:37 about it Sarah insisted that he was 14:40 merely her stepfather and nothing more 14:42 but from an outsider's perspective a 14:45 50-year-old man had taken an attractive 14:47 yet troubled 18-year-old girl into his 14:50 home and just maybe her peers were on to 14:53 something as once Sarah settled and 14:56 became more comfortable in the house 14:58 Hal's boundary and attitudes began to 15:00 shift especially when she reached 18 15:03 years old the change was quite alarming 15:06 by the way hell began to buy her drugs 15:09 and alcohol started to joke about them 15:11 dating and even touched upon sexual 15:14 conversations with Sarah to add to these 15:16 changes he openly kept a tab on 15:19 everything that he bought her including 15:21 alcohol drugs cosmetics and rent he 15:24 wanted her to feel indebted to him and 15:27 also told her that she could only leave 15:29 once she had paid him off as her debt 15:32 grew so did H's advancements Sarah felt 15:36 absolutely trapped she felt so trapped 15:39 in fact that after she turned 18 she 15:42 gave into to his advances and the 15:44 relationship with the man that she once 15:46 called Dad had now become sexual this 15:49 diabolical situation carried on for 10 15:52 long months and according to Sarah they 15:55 would get physical multiple times a week 15:58 the the only way that she was able to 16:00 cope was to drink and take drugs until 16:03 she no longer felt present in the 16:05 situation this of course further 16:07 spiraling her debt towards the man who 16:10 was now taking sexual advantage of her 16:13 to add to this Hal berated her just as 16:16 often as he complimented her he would do 16:18 things like criticize her nose and then 16:20 offer to pay for her to get a nose job 16:23 which in her insecurity she would 16:25 eventually accept it was clear that Hal 16:28 saw for her as his own personal 16:31 possession rather than of course being 16:33 another human being with feelings he 16:36 also paid her to have butt implants with 16:38 his next Target to buy her breast 16:40 implants both of these surgeries totaled 16:44 $116,000 which of course was added to 16:47 the tab and she would have to pay him 16:49 back when she could afford it she was 16:51 trapped and with no way out to add to 16:54 that how also threatened her by saying 16:57 that he had connections if she ever 16:59 tried to run away her mental health 17:01 declined even further from this point in 17:04 response she was given anti-depressant 17:07 to cope which once again she would have 17:09 to pay back for eventually and this is 17:12 where a poisonous heart was born in the 17:15 dark trapped in the depths of trauma 17:18 Despair and depression Sarah's mind 17:21 turned for the worse she had been pushed 17:24 to the brink on numerous occasions and 17:27 now after supposed ly finding someone 17:30 that she could rely on he too had become 17:33 an abuser Sarah's mind had absolutely 17:36 had enough and so she began to act out 17:39 in ways that would eventually transform 17:42 a victim into a 17:46 killer after traveling to a pet shop she Spiralling signs 17:49 purchased a rabbit and signed a waiver 17:51 of care before taking it home on that 17:53 very same evening Hal had a guest at the 17:55 home it was one of the managers from CCE 17:58 who had stopped by to have dinner and 17:59 share a few drinks and so you can 18:02 probably imagine this manager's shock 18:04 when he opened the fridge door and 18:06 instead of finding beer he found a fully 18:08 skinned carcass of a rabbit not only did 18:11 Sarah admit that she was responsible for 18:13 killing this domestic rabbit and not a 18:15 wild one but she further claimed that 18:18 apparently it wasn't her first quite 18:20 uncomfortable with the situation the 18:22 manager politely stayed for dinner but 18:24 then quietly made his way home 18:26 afterwards I mean I'm not surprised I 18:28 think I have done the same thing now 18:30 this was one giant red flag and an 18:32 indication of what Sarah was potentially 18:34 capable of doing and sadly this sign was 18:37 ignored but the real question was was 18:40 Sarah really capable of murdering 18:42 another human being well on January the 18:44 17th 2014 the world would find out that 18:47 answer although Sarah was initially On the run 18:50 treated as a missing person it was soon 18:52 determined that she was actually the 18:54 prime suspect and sadly detectives were 18:57 not wrong in their newly established 19:00 assumptions little did they know that 19:02 she had packed all of her stuff 19:04 collected her dog stole Harold's car and 19:07 then fled to Texas however while on the 19:10 way she changed her plans to Florida it 19:12 was warmer and the idea of an ocean view 19:14 sounded nice and she wanted a tattoo by 19:18 the way that tattoo in mind was from a 19:20 quote from her favorite True Crime novel 19:22 named I is for innocent the quote read 19:25 beware the dark pool at the bottom of 19:28 our heart 19:29 in its ice black depths dwell strange 19:32 and twisted creatures it'd be best not 19:34 to disturb with this newly established 19:37 information in mind a massive Manhunt 19:39 for her was officially underway Not only 19:42 was Sarah wanted on suspicion of 19:44 murdering Hal but she was also assumed 19:47 to be mentally unwell and possibly 19:49 dangerous to others her name was on the 19:51 minds of many officers across the 19:54 country and it would remain that way for 19:56 11 long days but on January the 25th 20:00 2014 after being on the run for just 20:03 over a week and a half Sarah mclin was 20:05 finally found and arrested at Everglades 20:08 National Park no surprise an officer 20:11 found her in how stolen vehicle sleeping 20:14 next to a loaded gun they would also 20:16 find $2,400 in cash two more guns an Axe 20:21 and a pair of knives one of which was 20:24 stained with Harold's blood within hours Recalling Hal's fate 20:26 of her being arrested a three hour 20:29 interrogation began where Sarah admitted 20:31 to Harold's murder and according to her 20:33 version of events the story unfolded 20:36 like 20:38 this on January the 14th 2014 Harold 20:42 returned home from a long day of work 20:44 the speaker system had recently stopped 20:46 working so he decided to make an evening 20:49 out of repairing it he asked Sarah to 20:51 grab him a beer and then another one and 20:54 then another one a few hours later his 20:56 tiredness had gotten the better of of 20:58 him and then all of a sudden Hal passed 21:01 out on the floor little did he know that 21:03 Sarah had actually laced one of his 21:05 recent bottles with copious amounts of 21:08 ambian at this point in time she had 21:10 already made her mind up Hal had to die 21:13 she bound him with zip ties and 21:15 collected a hunting knife and then 21:18 moments later she hacked away at his 21:20 neck Harold died in his sleep shortly 21:23 after this Sarah then showered listening 21:26 to her favorite music while she washed 21:28 his blood away after this she called 21:30 into work to tell them that she wouldn't 21:32 be in for a few days as sadly a relative 21:36 of hers had passed away she then packed 21:39 her bags including a photo of her sister 21:42 collected her dog and vanished into the 21:44 night in how's stolen Nissan Altima and 21:47 in an effort to not be found she left 21:49 her cell phone and laptop behind during 21:52 her interrogation Sarah was not shy in 21:55 sharing her motives she was trapped in a 21:58 house and in debt to a man who clearly 22:00 wanted to own her she had been targeted 22:03 abused and then molded into his 22:05 possession her anger had blinded her to 22:08 revenge and consequences or not revenge 22:12 is exactly what she got Sarah also 22:15 expressed a strong desire for violence 22:18 she confessed that she had killed the 22:20 rabbits out of sheer curiosity and 22:22 further claimed that she wanted to 22:24 inflict pain outwardly but had no idea 22:27 how to do this in conspicu ously she 22:29 would also State I had violent thoughts 22:31 for 2 years and they progressed I guess 22:34 they just became really intense I've not 22:37 been in a good place it's like really 22:40 hard to explain little things make me 22:43 turn and see red 22:46 almost obviously Sarah's confession Psychology / Legal 22:49 landed her in very hot water not only 22:52 had she admitted to murdering Hal but 22:54 also that she loved violence and so with 22:57 both of these terrible facts underneath 22:58 her it became quite clear that she would 23:01 potentially stand trial however it was 23:03 also clear that Sarah definitely was not 23:06 mentally well and so she would have to 23:08 receive psychological evaluation first a 23:11 newly emerging love for violence aside 23:13 she also claimed to have gaps in her 23:15 memory and also that she felt like she 23:17 was often a spectator in her mind no 23:20 surprise but ultimately Sarah would be 23:22 diagnosed with diso of Personality 23:24 Disorder also known as D for short in 23:28 Sarah's mind she was not just Sarah she 23:31 was also Vanessa Alysa Mila and no name 23:35 for people who experien did these extra 23:38 personalities are often referred to as 23:40 altars now Alysa was Sarah's tearful and 23:43 vulnerable side whereas Vanessa was the 23:46 strong combative fighter within Mila was 23:48 feminine polite and liked to please 23:50 people but of course the saddest version 23:53 of them all was no name Who Bore all the 23:55 consequences of trauma and depression 23:58 and and of course Harold fit into that 24:00 category when it came to Sarah's trial 24:03 her dissociative personality disorder 24:05 was her main line of defense she claimed 24:08 that a childish alter named Alysa wanted 24:11 to take her own life but was convinced 24:13 not to by her other altars after careful 24:16 discussion between themselves they 24:18 decided that the only way out of this 24:20 was by murdering Harold in a more lucid 24:23 and serer World Sarah's defense team 24:26 claimed that she was clinically 24:27 dissociated ating when carrying out her 24:30 crime with Alyssa apparently taking over 24:32 all function on that day alarmingly the 24:35 abuse that Sarah enured while living 24:37 with Harold was ultimately deemed to be 24:40 irrelevant as sadly it was passed off as 24:43 consensual and therefore not strong 24:45 enough evidence self-defense itself was 24:48 also out of the question as the murder 24:50 had clearly been premeditated 24:53 unfortunately for Sarah although her 24:55 mental disorder was deemed to be genuine 24:57 her defense did not stand up in court 25:00 and ultimately she was found guilty of 25:03 the murder of Harold sasco as a result 25:05 she was sentenced to life in prison with 25:08 a minimum of 50 years to be served 25:10 before the possibility of parole this 25:13 greatly shocked both Sarah and her 25:15 family it became evident that the abuse 25:18 she had endured throughout her life and 25:20 her mental state at the time of the 25:21 murder had not been taken into account 25:24 during her sentencing meaning that her 25:26 sentence was much more aggressive Rive 25:28 than 25:32 deserved Sarah appealed on the grounds 25:35 that her abuse should have been taken 25:36 into account during her trial and 25:39 thankfully by then more evidence of 25:41 how's terrible Behavior had been 25:42 uncovered after analyzing his computers 25:45 detectives found them to be literally 25:47 riddled with illegal pornography in 25:49 addition to this another mother who 25:51 remains Anonymous came forward to claim 25:53 that apparently Hal had groomed both of 25:55 her daughters both of those girls were 25:57 sent gifts with rather inappropriate 26:00 messages on them and when their mother 26:02 told how to back off he instead offered 26:04 them to move in with him with all of 26:06 this new evidence Sarah's appeal 26:08 resulted in a 50% reduction to 25 years 26:12 however to this day she still remains 26:14 Behind Bars and that's because although 26:16 the judge did conclude that yes hell did 26:18 have abusive control over Sarah it 26:21 doesn't negate the fact that she still 26:22 committed premeditated murder but of 26:24 course the lines here are 26:26 extraordinarily blurred I mean Sarah was 26:30 initially a victim and how he pushed her 26:32 trauma to Newfound 26:36 deaths Harold was a manipulative abusive 26:39 creep towards young women and did a very 26:41 good job of deceiving many in his 26:43 community however some still remember 26:46 him as a very giving man of the Lord but 26:49 there were good aspects to Harold too 26:51 for example he was known to help many 26:54 employees out of financial ruin and 26:56 whenever anyone needed advice he was 26:59 always there to help them Harold's 27:01 family don't deny his perverse actions 27:04 but they do attest to his positive 27:05 nature he clearly needed help and was 27:08 doing wrong but he never deserved to die 27:11 and while Sarah's family agree that she 27:13 should pay for her crimes they also 27:15 believe that a punishment was too harsh 27:18 for a teenager who was trying to escape 27:20 her abuser and yes I think in this 27:23 instance I do have to agree Harold was 27:26 obviously a well-loved man but he was 27:28 also a wolf in sheep's clothing anyway I 27:31 think I'll end this video with a quote 27:33 from Sarah's grandmother in her 27:35 statement to the court she said 27:37 unfortunately for Hal sometimes the 27:39 Predator becomes the victim and 27:42 sometimes the victim becomes the 27:43 Predator nevertheless Sarah owes a debt 27:46 to society which she will Outro 27:52 pay I find it very difficult to know 27:54 which side of the fence I'm on with this 27:56 story I mean it is very clear that Sarah 27:58 was a victim for a very long time and 28:01 how he treated her like [ __ ] but the 28:03 fact of the matter is that Sarah 28:05 murdered Hal when she quite clearly 28:07 didn't need to of course though you then 28:09 have to think about her mental health 28:11 and the state she was in at the time so 28:13 I don't really know where to stop with 28:14 this one because yeah I'm finding it 28:16 very difficult to know where I sit 28:18 saying that I'd love to know what you 28:19 think about this one because yeah the 28:21 lines are extraordinarily blurred do you 28:23 think that Sarah should still be in 28:24 prison to this day or do you think she 28:27 should have been in prison as all as 28:28 always let me know what you think in the 28:30 comments down below and thank you so 28:31 much for making it this far folks I
