0:00 when 24-year-old Alexis robenalt married 0:02 47-year-old Tom shaki she hoped that 0:05 marrying someone twice her age would 0:07 bring maturity and security perhaps from 0:10 the outside most believed that she had 0:12 found herself a strong and stable 0:14 partner and their social media suddenly 0:16 portrayed them as a happy successful 0:19 couple but unfortunately things were not 0:22 okay behind closed doors and the world 0:25 would soon come to realize this when 0:27 Alexis suddenly vanished the new made 0:30 her husband Tom both anxious and 0:32 terrified however friends noticed his 0:35 story would change multiple times in the 0:37 days after her disappearance especially 0:40 once her body had tragically been 0:42 discovered but this was just the 0:44 beginning and how this Texas 2:26 folks and of course I'm talking about 2:28 the incredible state of Texas now there 2:31 is no need for formal introductions here 2:33 we all know Texas to varying degrees 2:36 already and love it or hate it it 2:38 remains one of America's most iconic and 2:40 fastest growing States gone are the days 2:43 of stereotypical Cowboys and saloon bars 2:46 big modern cities like Austin Dallas and 2:49 Houston are changing the Texan landscape 2:51 and its economy is thriving thanks to 2:54 its rapid development in the biomedical 2:56 technology and Aerospace Industries 2:59 however step out of the big cities and 3:01 you will still find their Wild West 3:03 routs with rodeos popping up yearly and 3:07 cattle filling the many open pastures 3:09 our story today is far away from this 3:12 more rustic lifestyle as today we're 3:15 zoning in on the city of Houston Houston 3:17 is well known for its energy 3:19 manufacturing Aeronautical Engineering 3:21 impressive healthc care research and of 3:24 course NASA although it has had 3:26 impressive economic success there is 3:28 sadly no doubt that the city has had a 3:31 real problem with crime and gang 3:33 activity Houston's crime rate is notably 3:36 higher than the national average and 3:38 unfortunately it doesn't appear to be 3:40 slowing down anytime soon due to its 3:44 proximity to the Border it is often used 3:46 as a hub for trafficking drugs such as 3:48 cocaine and methamphetamine through to 3:50 the rest of the country and what is even 3:53 more unfortunate is its rapidly growing 3:56 murder rate with almost 500 people 3:59 murdered with within the city in 2021 4:01 alone the rate here has nearly doubled 4:04 in 2 years since 2019 yep Texas you are 4:08 beautiful but dangerous now of course 4:11 this is often attributed to gang Warfare 4:14 over Turf and drugs and so the 4:17 intelligent option here is simply to not 4:19 become involved in that sort of thing 4:21 however saying that you will still have 4:24 to watch your back here as that does not 4:26 fully negate the possibility with such a 4:28 high murder rate it it is not uncommon 4:30 for the police to receive phone calls 4:32 reporting the discovery of a body but November 28th 2020 4:34 when a phone call came in on November 4:36 the 28th 2020 from a man who had just 4:39 found one on the side of the road 4:41 outside of town police officers had no 4:44 idea what story would unfold in its 4:46 shadow police officers responding to the 4:48 scene were met with a morbidly peculiar 4:51 sight located just along the side of the 4:54 road on red Hall Lane they found a pair 4:56 of feet sticking out of the undergrowth 4:59 the report came in from a local sanitary 5:01 worker just before 8:00 a.m. that 5:04 morning as per his usual schedule he was 5:07 cleaning the road when he came across 5:09 the body in the bush and not wanting to 5:11 become involved he immediately called 5:14 the police without disturbing the scene 5:16 upon closer inspection investigating 5:19 officers uncovered the body carefully as 5:21 to not tamper with any evidence they 5:24 would soon discover that the body turned 5:26 out to be that of a young woman in her 5:28 20s and all though she had been stripped 5:30 naked she had no visible signs of trauma 5:34 or apparent cause of death evident 5:36 through the condition of her body she 5:38 had likely been placed here quite 5:39 recently either overnight or the day 5:42 prior there was no indication that she 5:44 had walked here on her own and it made 5:46 perfect sense for officers to initially 5:47 believe that Foul Play was involved so 5:50 who was this young woman why was she 5:53 naked what was the cause of her death 5:55 and how did she meet her untimely demise 5:58 the body was transported reported to 6:00 Harris County Medical examiner's Office 6:02 later that day however it would be quite 6:04 some time until they fully established 6:06 the cause of her death but saying that 6:09 it wouldn't actually take long until her 6:11 identity was revealed you see a young 6:13 woman had been reported as missing just 6:15 2 days prior and this body it matched 6:18 her description with that in mind 6:20 officers contacted the husband of the 6:22 missing woman asking him to come down to 6:24 the medical examiner's office for 6:27 identification and so enter Tom shaki a Tom and Alexis Sharkey 6:31 49-year-old bodybuilder and menacing 6:34 Hulk of a man after walking in to 6:36 identify the body Tom was sadly able to 6:39 verify that it did in fact belong to 6:42 26-year-old Alexis shaki the man was 6:45 visibly distraught at the discovery and 6:48 it's clear that he had long held out 6:50 hope that all of this would be a 6:52 temporary night man that Not only was 6:55 this body not his wife but that 6:57 eventually she would return home safely 7:00 life can be sickeningly cruel and his 7:03 hopes were crushed without Mercy but who 7:07 precisely were Alexis and Tom shaki how 7:10 exactly did they meet and what would 7:12 lead them to these unfortunate 7:15 circumstances beginning with Alexis she 7:17 was born on February the 6th 1994 and 7:20 was the first child of Stacy and Mike 7:22 robenalt she was a beautiful 26-year-old 7:26 woman who prided herself on her 7:28 appearance however beneath that lovely 7:30 facade was a matching personality and 7:33 intelligent mind to boot she would later 7:36 gain two beautiful younger sisters and 7:38 the family led a peaceful and happy life 7:41 as evidenced by many various photos 7:44 while growing up Alexis attended 7:46 youngville high school before graduating 7:48 in 2012 where she then went on to gain 7:51 further education at the University of 7:53 Pittsburgh she was brilliant and 7:56 ambitious achieving a major in biology 7:59 and two minors in nutrition and 8:01 psychology so there is no doubt that 8:04 Alexis had a passion for physical and 8:06 mental health with an interest in 8:08 self-improvement and cosmetics Alexis 8:11 plans to go to medical school following 8:13 her graduation but first she wanted to 8:16 take a gap here before settling down and 8:19 this is what led her to move to Houston 8:21 in the year 2017 it was during this time 8:24 that she worked at a local Twin Peak spa 8:27 for those of you outside of America when 8:29 Peaks is quite similar to Hooters and 8:32 typically hosts lightly dressed women 8:34 who serve drinks and food to customers 8:37 with her beauty it is no surprise that 8:39 she gained a lot of attention from 8:41 customers and many of them would pay her 8:43 rather large tips which allowed her to 8:45 lead a lavish lifestyle outside of work 8:48 Alexis posted everything about herself 8:51 and her life online and it's through 8:53 this social media presence that she 8:55 would eventually become best known and 8:58 to this day her Instagram account has 9:00 amassed more than 78,000 followers on 9:04 this account she would post the more 9:06 luxurious parts of her life including 9:08 holidays with her girlfriends days out 9:10 for brunch and dozens of Glamour Shots 9:13 of her wearing various designer outfits 9:16 she would also post about health choices 9:18 on her story though of course she would 9:21 never say no to the odd glass of 9:23 Champaign with the girls it was during 9:25 her social media Journey that she would 9:28 eventually meet Tom Shan 9:29 a 49-year-old bodybuilder who would 9:32 often visit the bar where she worked 20 9:35 years older than she was Tom was born in 9:37 Fort Meyers Florida and according to him 9:40 he studied at the School of Hard Knocks 9:43 with that said it is no surprise that 9:45 little is known about his education now 9:48 Tom was no stranger to women he 9:51 maintained plenty of relationships 9:53 throughout the decades one of which 9:55 resulted in a baby daughter who by the 9:57 time this case takes place was now a 10:00 fully grown adult although the 10:02 relationship with her mother would 10:03 eventually come to an end he fully 10:06 supported his daughter both emotionally 10:08 and financially after all Tom was a 10:11 consultant in the oil industry and 10:13 having this well-paying job not only 10:15 allowed him to travel across the globe 10:18 but also look after his family this is 10:21 likely one of the many factors that Drew 10:23 Alexus towards him she had always loved 10:26 to travel and had long dreamed of 10:28 finding a job that would allow her to 10:30 move around freely in addition to this 10:32 Tom was not just a charismatic man with 10:35 a larger than life personality but was 10:37 also very popular amongst the locals so 10:41 accompanied by his well-built physique 10:43 it is quite understandable why Alexis 10:46 would have been drawn to 10:48 him after meeting at the bar Tom slid 10:51 into her DMS to ask for tips and tricks 10:53 about Fitness you see with her being a 10:55 nutritional expert and him being a 10:57 bodybuilder they had plenty to talk 10:59 about tips turned into compliments 11:01 compliments into flirting and before 11:03 they knew it a relationship had 11:05 blossomed fast forward to December of 11:07 2019 and they were married during that 11:10 time Tom carefully observed Alexis and 11:12 her social media before eventually 11:14 deciding to join in on that virtual 11:16 facade and from then on the two would 11:18 portray a very happy life together the 11:21 pair adored each other and as far as 11:23 anyone knew they were in the process of 11:25 living happily ever after well so 11:28 everyone thought and now it would seem 11:30 that the pair had been ripped apart in 11:33 the most tragic and sad of 11:35 circumstances by the time his wife had Murder Investigation 11:37 been identified she had been missing for 11:40 well over 24 hours a very crucial period 11:43 for any disappearance and the evidence 11:46 that goes with it as part of all 11:48 homicide investigations detectives first 11:51 looked towards her closest friends and 11:53 relatives for information and so it was 11:56 no surprise that her husband Tom shaky 11:59 was the first to be questioned now as 12:02 far as anybody knew Tom was the last 12:05 person to see his wife alive and as most 12:08 of you will already know by now a spouse 12:11 is often the most influential person to 12:14 a homicide investigation detectives were 12:16 Keen to know exactly what happened at 12:19 least from his perspective and so Tom's 12:22 story is as follows according to him 12:25 Alexis had recently returned home after 12:28 a holiday with friends in tum Mexico 12:30 with her returning home just before 12:32 Thanksgiving on November the 26th 12:35 following her return the pair decided to 12:37 enjoy a romantic dinner together that 12:40 evening apparently it went very well 12:42 with the two heading to bed for fun 12:44 before sleeping however Tom claimed that 12:47 things took a very steep turn the next 12:50 day when on November the 27th Alexis 12:53 allegedly started drinking throughout 12:55 the daytime now this made no sense to 12:58 her friends and family and would have 13:00 been highly out of character for Alexis 13:03 quite simply she wasn't built that way 13:06 Tom admitted that he didn't know why she 13:08 was day drinking and further asserted 13:10 that the two never argued he also 13:13 claimed that Alexis tried to drive under 13:15 the influence and that he tried to stop 13:18 her as a result she stormed away on foot 13:21 in an interview Tom would also say she 13:24 understood me I understood her we didn't 13:26 fight when she left I just told her that 13:29 she couldn't drive under the influence 13:31 she left anyhow when she failed to 13:34 return the next day he notified her 13:36 parents of the situation who in response 13:39 contacted the authorities but her mother 13:42 Stacy was perplexed about the situation 13:45 she had spoken to Alexis only 3 days 13:47 prior and Alexis seemed happy after 13:50 reporting her disappearance to the 13:52 authorities Tom Stacy and her friends 13:54 took to social media to try and find her 13:57 and her mother who posted on Facebook 13:59 said please share this post my daughter 14:02 Alexis shy is missing no one has heard 14:05 from her for over 24 hours and police 14:07 are involved she has lived in Houston 14:10 Texas since January and that is where 14:12 she was last seen please help us find 14:15 her and bring her home safely we are so 14:18 very desperate please share as you know 14:21 Alexis had a relatively large following 14:23 online and so with such an audience she 14:26 was often attached to her phone as a 14:29 result her friends would usually see her 14:31 appear online not just through Instagram 14:34 but through other apps and platforms too 14:37 however her friends would also report 14:39 that ever since she disappeared on the 14:41 evening of the 27th she had not been 14:43 seen online furthermore she hadn't 14:46 replied to any of her messages or posted 14:49 anything on her profile to add to that 14:51 all messages and phone calls were 14:56 ignored during the initial 24 hours Tom 14:59 Tom frantically contacted his wife's 15:00 many friends to ask if they had seen or 15:03 had heard from her many recall him being 15:05 extremely erratic but the thing that 15:07 concerned them the most was how his 15:09 story seemed to change over the hours 15:11 you see at first Tom claimed that they 15:13 had argued but a couple hours later he 15:16 denied such allegations and then he said 15:18 that she'd left Barefoot and alone a 15:21 couple hours after that she'd apparently 15:22 got into the back of a car never to be 15:24 seen again and despite seeming 15:26 extraordinarily panicked about the 15:28 situation Tom was never actually the one 15:31 to report her as missing to the 15:32 authorities something you'd expect a 15:34 husband to do for his wife however 15:37 before much else could happen and on the 15:39 morning of November the 28th a body 15:41 matching her description had been found 15:44 and as we know she was identified 15:46 shortly after although the cause of her 15:48 death was initially unknown it was 15:51 initially speculated that she had either 15:53 been poisoned or had taken her own life 15:56 through an overdose the latter was 15:58 simply unbelievable to her family and 16:01 friends Alexis was happy and she was 16:04 very excited about the future despite 16:06 all of those close to her being 16:08 interviewed none of them were identified 16:10 as a potential suspect in her murder 16:13 however they would all say the same 16:15 thing that she was happy healthy and had 16:18 no history of drug abuse throughout 16:21 these interviews there was one small 16:23 story that caught the interest of 16:25 detectives one of her friends who had 16:28 traveled with Alex to Mexico revealed 16:30 that Alexis had confided in her about 16:33 her rather Rocky marriage with Tom 16:36 apparently despite her social media 16:38 portraying a beautiful love story things 16:40 were not quite as they seemed behind 16:42 closed doors and further problems in 16:45 their marriage were proven when in 16:47 Mexico Alexis took a liking to one of 16:50 the local DJs they ended up spending a 16:53 lot of time together that week however 16:56 she did not pursue anything too romantic 16:58 or sexual as Alexis did not want to be 17:01 unfaithful to her husband quite honestly 17:04 it isn't clear what precisely happened 17:06 between them but Alexis's wondering eyes 17:09 confirmed her perspective of the rocky 17:11 relationship with Tom and apparently she 17:14 never wanted to do anything that could 17:16 anger Tom as he could be rather 17:18 intimidating at times in fact she would 17:21 even tell her friend that she sometimes 17:23 feared for her life sadly there was a 17:26 truth to Alexis's confession after 17:29 delving into the couple's personal lives 17:31 detectives discovered that she and Tom 17:34 were already in the process of filing 17:36 for divorce which up until this point in 17:39 time they had kept quiet from friends 17:41 and family despite this the divorce was 17:44 not deemed to be a motive for Tom to 17:46 cause any harm to Alexis after all he 17:49 was posting all over social media about 17:52 how much he loved his wife and now with 17:54 her sudden death he instead was actively 17:57 mourning his loss 17:59 however the strange thing is that 18:01 despite her passing away only a few days 18:04 prior he was already beginning to depict 18:06 Alexis as a troubled woman online which 18:10 is highly odd I mean who does that after 18:13 just losing their partner his efforts 18:15 would not stop rumors from circling 18:17 online that maybe Tom had something to 18:20 do with her death in fact his strange 18:22 behavior only seemed to perpetuate it 18:25 followers and friends knew Alexis and 18:27 they were appalled to see Tom paint her 18:30 in such a Negative light and when Tom's 18:32 story began to sway and deviate from the 18:35 authorities it was sure to leave them 18:37 suspicious too the strange but Hunting Tom 18:40 unsurprising thing is the more that Tom 18:42 bashed his dead wife's personality 18:44 online the more her own crowd seemed to 18:46 defend her and before he knew it he had 18:49 multiple death threats and as time went 18:51 by more suspicion seemed to be growing 18:53 around Tom too you see despite being 18:55 held in the coroner's office for more 18:57 than two weeks already Alexis's body was 19:00 yet to be released and that's because 19:02 Tom was listed as her next ofkin and so 19:05 naturally it was up to him what happened 19:07 to the body and despite Tom already 19:09 agreeing with her parents that she could 19:10 be flown back and then buried with the 19:12 rest of her family he had not yet 19:14 contacted them or the coroner's office 19:16 with all the delays Stacy clearly had 19:19 enough Tom was now ignoring her entirely 19:22 and so she decided to contact the 19:24 authorities and demand answers too 19:26 unfortunately though they were ALS also 19:28 met in Silence from him in fact Tom had 19:31 stopped cooperating with the police 19:33 altogether in an act of Mercy the 19:36 medical examiner changed her next of kin 19:38 over to her mother so she could finally 19:40 be laid to rest as a result Alexis's 19:43 funeral took place on December the 19th 19:46 2020 and no surprise was kept a secret 19:50 from Tom not that it mattered him 19:52 Vanishing aside he never asked this 19:55 prompted the authorities to dig deeper 19:57 into the inves tigation and finally on 20:00 the 19th of January 2021 the cause of 20:03 her death was finally publicly revealed 20:06 autopsy results concluded that Alexis 20:09 had likely died due to strangulation 20:11 therefore deeming her case to be a 20:13 homicide I mean I'd argue that was kind 20:16 of obvious from the very beginning after 20:18 all how had she ended up dead naked and 20:21 carefully arranged under a bush if this 20:23 was all just simply an overdose anyway 20:27 with a change in the manner of her death 20:29 the police had fresh authority to 20:30 investigate and detain any potential 20:33 suspect and as you can imagine by now 20:36 there was only one person in the 20:38 spotlight however by the time her case 20:41 was officially declared to be a homicide 20:44 they had lost track of the only person 20:46 they were interested in as a result it 20:49 took months for officers to finally 20:51 track Tom down and it turns out that he 20:53 had fled Texas shortly after his wife's 20:56 death he kept this extraordinary faily 20:59 quiet and his social media which had 21:01 since turned silent did not allude to 21:03 anywhere he had run to however you can't 21:06 run from the law forever and they would 21:09 eventually track him down in Georgia 21:11 after several attempts to contact him 21:13 over the phone Tom finally agreed to 21:15 submit a DNA sample in August of 2021 21:19 and you can probably guess what I'm 21:20 going to say next but Tom never attended 21:23 this 21:27 appointment now please correct me if you 21:29 think otherwise but it's not hard for 21:31 anyone to assume that Tom likely knew 21:33 more about his wife's death than he was 21:35 willing to let on I mean his story had 21:37 changed multiple times he had smeared 21:39 her personality and character online he 21:42 was no longer contacting her family or 21:44 the detectives and when asked for DNA 21:46 sample he failed to show up none of 21:48 these things described the actions of an 21:50 innocent man and so with that in mind 21:53 Tom became a primary suspect and 21:55 furthermore he seemed to have the means 21:57 motive and opportunity to kill Alexis 22:00 throughout their investigation 22:01 detectives realized that Tom actually 22:03 had a history of domestic violence 22:05 against her and so maybe that divorce 22:08 was not as amicable as they initially 22:10 thought and so on September the 29th the 22:13 authorities finally obtained a warrant 22:14 for his arrest and the hunt for Tom 22:16 shaki officially began and thankfully it 22:20 wouldn't take long for detectives to 22:21 finally track him down they believed he 22:23 was staying with his daughter in Fort 22:25 Meers Florida police officers had to be 22:27 very careful in conducting their 22:29 investigations Tom was now a fugitive of 22:32 the law and his reaction to Cops showing 22:34 up at his doorstep was entirely 22:36 unpredictable undercover officers would 22:39 carefully watch the house from afar and 22:41 on October the 5th their suspicions were 22:44 finally confirmed over this time frame 22:46 Tom was seen exiting and entering the 22:48 home on multiple occasions it turns out 22:51 that he appeared to be relying on his 22:53 daughter to unknowingly help him avoid 22:56 the law in an effort not to lose him 22:58 officers planned to storm the property 23:00 the next day once they could confirm he 23:02 was still in the Home Marshall 23:04 surrounded the house in preparation to 23:07 enter after knocking on the door Tom's 23:09 daughter answered and was briskly pushed 23:11 aside in their rapid search for Tom and 23:14 after clearing the bottom floor there 23:16 was no sign of him whatsoever that is 23:19 when the authorities learned just how 23:21 unpredictable this man really was 23:23 because without any possible time to 23:25 intervene a gunshot echoed from the 23:28 second floor upon ascending the stairs 23:31 and storming the bedroom from which the 23:33 noise came from officers found his 23:35 freshly lifeless Body by shooting 23:37 himself in the head he had taken the 23:40 opportunity to keep control of the 23:41 situation for one final time this of 23:44 course all but confirming that he was 23:47 responsible for murdering his wife 23:49 although he was still warm to the touch 23:51 when officers found him there was 23:53 nothing they could do to bring him back 23:55 he was pronounced dead at the scene 23:57 bringing an end to the tragic case of 24:00 Alexis 24:02 shaky as a result the family of Alexis 24:05 will never truly know what happened to 24:07 their daughter but like I said Tom's 24:10 death basically solidifies his guilt but 24:13 how he murdered her or why precisely we 24:16 unfortunately will never know the only 24:18 two people that could provide these 24:19 details are sadly no longer around now 24:23 interestingly enough there was no 24:24 evidence found in the home or either of 24:26 their cars to directly link Tom to her 24:28 murder and so theoretically he could 24:31 have gone to trial and been found not 24:33 guilty however his actions especially 24:36 his final one speak far louder than any 24:38 of his false words and so unfortunately 24:41 we are left with nothing more than a 24:43 theory but the authorities assume that 24:45 the couple must have had an argument 24:47 which sadly sent Tom over the edge and I 24:49 mean there were many reasons as to why 24:51 he may have been upset for example maybe 24:54 he was upset at the divorce or maybe 24:56 he'd found out about her Crush in Mexico 24:58 and so it is assumed that this was 25:00 likely a case of domestic violence and 25:03 Tom not only did he have the history to 25:05 back this up but he was also triple her 25:08 size Alexis harbored her relationship Closure 25:11 struggles and secrecy and the sad truth 25:14 is that if she had confided in her loved 25:16 ones she might have found the love and 25:18 support that she needed to survive 25:21 unfortunately domestic violence or 25:23 intimate partner violence is all too 25:26 prevalent and is indiscriminate of age 25:28 gender or sexuality and although 25:31 domestic violence is often imagined with 25:33 a female victim mental and emotional 25:36 abuse are equally experienced both ways 25:39 suspicions over Tom's controlling 25:41 Behavior had long lingered with Alexis's 25:44 family and sadly these suspicions were 25:47 tragically validated after her passing 25:50 despite Tom's facade of Happiness 25:52 success and a thriving Social Circle her 25:55 family and friends always remained 25:57 quietly skeptical call devastatingly 26:00 they had no idea how deep his toxicity 26:03 actually ran Alexis was on the brink of 26:06 liberating herself from the evil grip of 26:08 her abusive husband divorce papers 26:11 awaited signatures on dotted lines and 26:14 she was about to break free until a Sick 26:17 and Twisted Fate intervened she had an 26:20 abundance of life ahead before she was 26:22 cruy snatched away by the very person 26:26 who was entrusted to cherish and protect 26:30 her while her cowardly killer may have 26:33 avoided his punishment by taking his own 26:35 life it doesn't sure that he will never 26:37 hurt another woman again one way to look 26:39 at it is should he have gotten away with 26:41 her murder at trial then who knows who 26:43 he may have hurt in the future and I 26:45 don't say this with vengeance Pride or 26:47 happiness but maybe this was just 26:49 another case of the trash taking itself 26:51 out anyway folks I think that pretty 26:53 much covers our case today however 26:55 before I go I'd love to know what you 26:57 think about this case case do you think 26:59 that Tom was guilty and do you think 27:01 that him taking his own life basically 27:03 confirms this as always let me know in 27:05 the comments section down below and 27:07 while you're there let me know what 27:09 country you're messaging from thank
