0:00 you're under arrest on suspicion of 0:02 murder mention one question 0:04 something evidence this is Benjamin 0:07 Atkins and his girlfriend Debbie perryi 0:10 Ira both of whom were arrested for their 0:12 part in murdering 49-year-old Simon Shon 0:14 in their death trap of a home all for 0:17 the sake of a mere £30 or $40 us believe 0:21 it or not some officers wanted to give 0:23 them the benefit of the doubt and assume 0:25 they were innocent however after a Brisk 0:28 investigation at their property the 0:30 quickly realized that Simon had met a 0:32 bleak and terrible end within their four 0:34 walls so who are Ben and Debbie what 0:38 surveillance footage helped them lead to 0:40 their arrest and why on Earth was Simon 0:43 murdered all for the sake of 0:46 30bs Welcome or welcome back to Coffee 0:49 House crime folks my name is Adrien and 0:51 today we're traveling to England's 0:52 Southern Coastline to look at a gruesome 0:54 story that happened only last year now 0:57 it's not that often that we come across 0:58 a case that seems to be so senseless and 1:00 brutal you'll see what I mean in a short 1:02 while but these two really did go to 1:05 prison for a mere few bucks by the way I 1:07 post True Crime strange and chilling 1:09 stories here on a weekly basis so if you 1:11 do like that sort of thing please 1:13 consider subscribing it really does help 1:14 me out thank you I appreciate you and 1:17 now with all of that said please grab 1:19 yourself a coffee and let's caffeinate 1:21 while we investigate this is the case of 1:24 Simon Shon Bournemouth 1:32 in today's case we'll be making the most 1:34 of the British Summer by heading down to 1:36 the southern coast of England it is an 1:38 area brimming with history spanning 1:40 recent scars from two world wars right 1:43 through to the Jurassic era however if 1:45 you're more of the urban type then why 1:48 not lose yourself in The Eclectic city 1:49 of Plymouth explore the major port city 1:52 of Portsmouth or alternatively go 1:54 hunting for the world's best video 1:56 editor in Brighton and hve hi Callum 1:59 quite honestly there is so much to 2:01 explore in all of these beautiful 2:03 coastal cities however today we're 2:05 focusing on another one that hasn't been 2:07 mentioned yet and that is Bournemouth so 2:11 what can I say about Bournemouth well 2:13 it's a seaside resort town in the heart 2:15 of Dorset and with a population of just 2:18 under 200,000 residents it's not a small 2:20 settlement by any means either with its 2:23 mild climate sandy beaches amusement 2:25 parks and streets filled with 2:26 restaurants and entertainment venues it 2:29 is appreciated by all who visit however 2:32 despite being a peaceful Beach town 2:33 where many come to relax Bournemouth was 2:36 thrust into the spotlight last summer 2:38 under some pretty horrific circumstances 2:41 it was on August the 26th 2023 in the 2:43 boson Beach area of East Bournemouth 2:46 that families shied away from their busy 2:47 schedules to enjoy the British Summer 2:49 Sun dozens made their way down to the 2:51 beach VI it zigzag trail of Mana steps 2:54 seeking comfort in the gentle Coastal 2:56 Breeze one of those tourists decided to 2:59 take a break under one of the trees 3:01 nearby that is when suddenly two wrapped 3:04 up bundles tumbled down the cliff beside 3:06 her and as you can imagine this was 3:09 highly extraordinary curious about what 3:12 was inside but also not too worried she 3:15 decided to take a look and check them 3:17 out but as soon as she unwrapped the 3:19 first package she was hit with the 3:22 terrible stench of Decay and what she 3:24 saw inside was an indiscernable mess 3:27 trusting her instincts she decided to 3:29 call the police who responded by quickly 3:31 cordoning off the area and after 3:33 investigating the tumbled packages they 3:36 found that what they contained were the 3:38 partial remains of a human body more 3:40 precisely a pair of severed legs the 3:44 discovery thoroughly baffled Bournemouth 3:45 police but outside of the victim's 3:48 suggested height and shoe size the legs 3:50 alone did not provide much more 3:52 information as we all know human remains 3:54 often come with the chance to recover a 3:56 person's DNA and if the person has a 3:58 criminal record well they then might be 4:01 in the police database fortunately after 4:04 only 5 days of analysis forensic 4:06 officers and detectives matched this DNA 4:08 to a man named Simon Shon who at the 4:11 time was a 43-year-old who resided in 4:13 the local area so what do we know about 4:16 Simon well the authorities knew him as 4:19 somewhat of a Drifter and one who 4:21 struggled to get by and often lived 4:23 wherever he could find shelter Simon had 4:26 recently served a sentence for drug 4:27 possession with intent to supply but was 4:30 later released on license and monitored 4:32 by the probation service of course this 4:35 eventually assisting with his 4:36 identification before the Grim Discovery 4:39 Simon was seen squatting in the rundown 4:41 monbu Hotel found on Manor Road the 4:44 security guard who spotted him named Le 4:47 gualeni described him as somewhat of a 4:49 decent guy in fact they had even 4:51 exchanged phone numbers so that Simon 4:53 could avoid the out of bounds areas he 4:56 didn't want to be a burden on society 4:58 it's just that at at the time he didn't 5:00 fit in very well it was noted that just 5:03 a few weeks before his remains were 5:05 found Simon told Lee that he had moved 5:07 to a new address on Alsbury Road and 5:09 that apparently things were looking 5:12 better however that would be the last 5:14 time that anyone heard from him Simon 5:17 unfortunately Simon seemed to struggle 5:19 from substance abuse from a very young 5:21 age but despite his rough childhood and 5:24 academic struggles he did turn out to be 5:26 a rather hard worker as he Grew Older 5:28 moving into his ad adulthood he would 5:30 take agency warehouse and fairg ground 5:32 work wherever he could and would 5:34 routinely keep in touch with his family 5:36 mainly through his mother to add to that 5:38 he engaged in several relationships with 5:39 women many of which would eventually 5:41 result in children now he did do his 5:43 best to keep in touch with all of them 5:45 but put quite simply his issues with 5:47 alcohol and drugs made him a bad father 5:49 to be around and that's because his 5:51 addictions led to a rather chaotic and 5:53 unstable lifestyle where he owed money 5:56 to many people moved in and out of 5:57 housing quite regularly and could never 5:59 hold down a job eventually general labor 6:02 was no longer good enough and he found 6:04 himself working for the same dealers who 6:06 fueled his addictions creating a very 6:08 vicious cycle and so feeling ashamed and 6:11 Powerless to all of it he decided to 6:13 Shield his family and friends away from 6:15 his ever worsening situation isolating 6:18 himself far away from their reach 6:20 despite everything one of his sons named 6:23 Wesley remained particularly close to 6:25 him and now at the tender age of 19 he 6:29 was to be alerted of his father's death 6:31 even though he wasn't always around the 6:34 time they spent together was special and 6:36 filled with fun memories Wesley and his 6:38 dad shared a passion for everything 6:40 Motorsports related whether it was Cars 6:43 motorbikes or anything else and in 6:45 between Wesley also knew his dad 6:48 desperately wanted to turn his life 6:49 around not just for the family but also 6:52 for himself but these addictions can be 6:55 extraordinarily difficult to curb and it 6:58 was simply too tough Simon his dad was 7:01 used as a runner for drug gangs 7:03 controlled by the higher ups and working 7:05 12-hour days dealing on the streets this 7:08 would eventually lead to his arrest and 7:11 then his probation which as we know he 7:14 vanished from soon after in early 7:17 August the police did not have much to Investigation 7:20 go on unfortunately all they had was a 7:22 phone number and a text message that 7:25 contained the name of the street that he 7:27 supposedly moved to that being a Alsbury 7:30 road so the next step was to cross 7:32 reference these Clues and hopefully find 7:35 their suspect or maybe suspects 7:38 meanwhile a thorough investigation was 7:40 underway to track and locate more 7:42 evidence most notably the rest of Simon 7:45 shon's body which remained out there 7:48 waiting to be found Not only would 7:50 finding the rest of him assist in 7:52 finding his killer or Killers but it 7:54 would also bring peace of mind to a 7:56 grieving family simultaneously 7:58 investigation were underway to track 8:00 Simon's phone number and mobile phone 8:03 which as we will soon come to find out 8:06 were key articles that blew the case 8:08 wide open now you're probably going to 8:11 be surprised by this but it was 8:13 discovered that shortly after his death 8:15 his mobile phone had been sold at a 8:17 local porn shop named Cash creators I'd 8:20 like to say that this is a classic 8:22 rookie mistake for any criminal out 8:24 there but to be honest you have to be 8:26 seriously dumb to do this without 8:28 thinking of the potential r ifications 8:30 as you can imagine it took only 8:33 relatively basic police work to progress 8:35 Simon's case from here on out as it was 8:38 soon discovered that the shop had a 8:39 surveillance camera and that 8:40 surveillance footage was seized and 8:43 investigated and sure enough this 8:45 footage would lead them to a woman who 8:47 could be seen selling Simon's phone in 8:49 late August since she was a local she 8:52 was quite easily identified and she was 8:55 38-year-old Debbie periera it turns out 8:58 that she wasn't n alone while porning 9:00 the phone either because lurking in the 9:03 background she was accompanied by a 9:05 middle-aged man who was later identified 9:08 as Benjamin Atkins so do you remember 9:11 when I told you that Simon left the 9:13 shodi hotel well he had also told the 9:16 groundskeeper the street name of his new 9:18 home and as you can probably guess 9:21 already Debbie and Ben were found to 9:23 live at flat 18b found on Alsbury road 9:27 that was finally enough for officers to 9:28 visit the couple at their home on 9:30 September the 1st 2023 as a result they 9:34 were promptly arrested on suspicion of 9:36 murder all of which as part of British 9:38 standards was caught on police body cam 9:41 for the whole world to see right Debbie 9:44 time is 12 minutes past 9 you're under 9:45 arrest on suspicion of 9:47 murder defense mention one question 9:50 something evidence what do you mean say 9:54 there what you mean stay where you are 9:57 stay there 10:00 who is that right F you're under arrest 10:03 and suspicion of murder you do not have 10:04 to say anything but may your defense if 10:06 you do not mention when question 10:07 something you you lat on RA in court 10:09 anything you do say maybe given an 10:10 Evidence 10:11 that's at first leading officer Neil 10:14 third had some doubts about their 10:16 culpability he did consider that maybe 10:19 the couple might have merely found the 10:21 mobile phone on the street and then 10:22 decided to sell it however he couldn't 10:26 have been more wrong when officers 10:28 performed a search of of the property 10:30 and the attached Garden they found solid 10:32 proof that Debbie and Ben were in fact 10:35 involved in Simon's murder and that's 10:37 because the very next morning officers 10:40 discovered his dismembered arms wrapped 10:42 up inside their shed in the garden with 10:44 this gruesome find adding another piece 10:46 to the already horrific puzzle and so as 10:50 a result both Debbie and Ben were 10:52 officially charged with murder only a 10:54 few days later on September the 4th 10:57 meanwhile the search for the rest of 10:59 Simon continued it was 5 days after 11:02 Debbie and Ben were arrested that a 11:03 headless torso was discovered inside a 11:06 black suitcase found in bosam Chine 11:08 Gardens while out on a walk a patrol 11:11 officer used his nose to follow a foul 11:14 smell lingering in the air sadly the 11:16 stench of death is a unique and familiar 11:19 scent that law enforcement eventually 11:21 gets used to and of course this led him 11:24 to the Grim Discovery a postmortem on 11:26 the legs and torso revealed that 11:28 although the amputations were clean they 11:31 were not conducted surgically suggesting 11:33 an amateur attempt was made to dismember 11:36 Simon however despite all of this new 11:38 evidence his head still seemed to be 11:40 missing the police therefore had to rely 11:43 on strict interrogation tactics and more 11:45 rigorous investigation to locate the 11:47 rest of him but before we continue who 11:50 precisely were Ben and Debbie the couple 11:53 which now seemed deeply entangled in 11:55 this terrible story starting with Ben he 11:58 grew up in the north more than part of 11:59 Oxford with his single mother 12:01 unfortunately he did have a rough 12:03 childhood especially after his mom got 12:06 involved with an abusive man who would 12:08 later become his stepdad Ben's only 12:11 support was his grandmother who sadly 12:13 died when he was only a teenager this 12:16 devastated him quite dramatically and 12:18 pushed him into the world of drugs 12:20 during the '90s Rave scene over the next 12:23 couple of decades he routinely cycled 12:25 through periods of getting clean and 12:27 then relapsing eventually train in as a 12:29 carpenter before then drifting and 12:31 moving around for work it was after a 12:34 violent breakup in Bristol that he then 12:36 connected with Debbie periera through 12:38 Facebook concerningly the two of them 12:40 took no time to protect their peace or 12:43 assess each other sensibly instead 12:45 rushing into things by haphazardly 12:47 opting to move in together in 12:49 Bournemouth although Ben claimed that he 12:51 had children in the area his larger 12:54 commitment was crime he had a long rap 12:56 sheet with 16 convictions and 26 off es 12:59 showing a stained history of instability 13:02 and trouble with the 13:04 law Debbie on the other hand had her own 13:06 troubled history one that was filled 13:08 with abusive relationships with men who 13:11 should have protected her but despite 13:12 benen history and his behavior something 13:15 unique about him Drew her towards him 13:17 you know maybe he was Charming or maybe 13:19 he was funny or maybe there was 13:21 something that she could see that nobody 13:23 else could you know that classic Trope 13:26 either way it soon became evident to 13:28 everyone around them that the two were 13:29 damaged in a very similar way so could 13:32 that be a blessing or a nightmarish 13:35 curse well with the way that this story 13:38 goes I'm sure that you can come to your 13:40 own conclusion Debbie claims that she 13:43 had a horrendously tough and Loveless 13:45 upbringing and was forced to be adopted 13:47 by her aunt after her mother gave birth 13:49 to her at a very young age sadly her 13:53 adoptive father was very abusive towards 13:55 her too and tragically his friends who 13:58 visited them the home often would abuse 14:00 her from an extraordinarily young age in 14:03 contrast to this her step siblings did 14:05 not get the same treatment she was 14:07 singled out from the other children in 14:09 the house which only compounded her 14:11 grief and isolation understandably these 14:14 experiences built an unhealthy 14:16 relationship with men in general for 14:18 Debbie and throughout her adulthood she 14:21 found herself in one abusive 14:22 relationship after another calling the 14:25 police to report domestic abuse on 14:27 multiple occasions so it may be no 14:30 surprise that with this abusive and 14:32 unhappy existence came substance abuse 14:35 issues too as she was introduced to 14:37 heroin at the age of 29 by her partner 14:40 which led to a habit that would last for 14:42 over a decade and until the year that 14:44 this case takes place Debbie also has 14:47 two kids who now are aged 16 and 19 14:51 though no surprise she has little 14:53 contact with them considering her 14:55 lifestyle when the two first locked eyes 14:57 on one another she was quite pleased to 14:59 meet Ben she was looking for someone to 15:01 lean on and he seemed more supportive 15:04 and caring than her previous Partners 15:06 though as we will soon find out he also 15:09 had his own issues with control and 15:12 possessiveness prior to meeting him 15:14 Debbie was trying to get clean but 15:16 unfortunately she relapsed which led to 15:18 the two meeting inside a rehab facility 15:21 neither of them seemed to be 15:23 particularly enthusiastic about recovery 15:25 which only contributed to them poorly 15:27 enabling each other once they got out 15:30 when Ben did finally get out and then 15:33 proceeded to get in touch with Debbie 15:34 she was ready to dive back into her 15:37 addictive lifestyle with him Debbie also 15:39 had a history with law enforcement by 15:41 the way with 12 convictions and 19 15:44 offenses on record so given all of this 15:46 information it is actually quite clear 15:49 and obvious how Simon got involved with 15:51 the two of them in the first place 15:53 however one question remains here why 15:56 were his remains scattered around 15:58 Bournemouth not surprising to this story 16:00 but both Ben and Debbie were average 16:02 drug users not only that but they 16:05 frequented the many dealing spots where 16:07 Simon worked so after hearing about 16:09 Simon's rather unfortunate circumstances 16:11 the two then offered him a place to stay 16:13 in their tent in a garden quite the 16:16 offer there guys with nowhere else to go 16:18 he reluctantly accepted their offer 16:20 however that did not come without a 16:22 price in exchange for a safe camping 16:25 spot found in their Garden he would have 16:26 to pay Ben and Debbie £40 or $50 worth 16:29 of cocaine and heroin per day which to 16:32 me sounds like an insanely bad ripoff I 16:34 mean doing the maths that's like ,500 a 16:37 month you could easily get a two-bedroom 16:39 apartment for that anyway that was the 16:42 last place that Simon was known to be 16:43 alive before his remains were found 16:45 leaving Ben and Debbie in very hot water 16:48 in addition to this both Ben and Debbie 16:51 had been caught selling Simon's mobile 16:53 phone with surveillance footage to back 16:55 that up in fact they were even caught on 16:58 camera shoplifting a crucial piece of 17:00 evidence that being a large hacksaw 17:02 which can be seen in Benjamin's hand on 17:05 surveillance camera and so with the pair 17:07 now in custody and the evidence stacking 17:09 up around them it is safe to say that it 17:12 was in their best interests to come 17:14 clean and an efforts to reduce whatever 17:16 sentence they would face this was 17:19 especially pertinent on behalf of Debbie 17:21 as she would ascertain that she had 17:23 little to do with the actual murder 17:25 itself both suspects were questioned 17:27 separately and when stories matched each 17:29 other and the evidence was recovered 17:31 from various crime scenes a gruesome 17:33 scene could be painted to depict Simon's 17:36 terrible demise Ben's own mobile phone 17:39 records show that he was privately 17:41 messaging Simon behind Debb's back in an 17:43 attempt to obtain more drugs without her 17:46 knowing to add to this he also seem to 17:48 be blackmailing Simon by threatening to 17:51 tell his probation officer about his 17:52 illegal activities if he didn't comply 17:55 in giving him more drugs tensions 17:57 between the three were raised even 17:59 further when Simon actively defended 18:02 Debbie once Ben became irate aggressive 18:04 and abusive towards her she also 18:07 confided in Simon about their 18:09 relationship further swaying his own 18:11 opinion of the couple now I don't need 18:13 to tell you that the atmosphere became 18:15 excruciatingly tense between the three 18:18 of them and with their close proximity 18:19 in the one-bedroom flat it forced them 18:22 to live chaotically together honestly at 18:24 this point I simply would have run away 18:27 and lived alone in the woods mobile 18:29 phone records which were retrieved from 18:31 all three of them show a tense situation 18:34 that came to a head on the night of 18:35 August the 17th 2023 this was when Ben 18:39 was accused of stealing £30 the 18:41 equivalent of $40 from Simon in order to 18:44 buy more drugs after this Simon messaged 18:47 a friend to say that he no longer felt 18:49 safe staying with the couple he was very 18:51 scared of his environment and wanted to 18:54 find somewhere else to stay though sadly 18:57 such safety would only come a little too 19:00 late it was on a warm Summer's evening The Fight 19:03 that all three of them were inside the 19:05 small one-bedroom flat while Ben and 19:08 Debbie were high as kites it was at that 19:11 moment that while cooked out of his 19:13 skull Ben accused Simon of stealing 19:15 money from him yet again the 19:17 confrontation sparked a fight between 19:19 the two of them understandably quite 19:21 scared Debbie retreated to the bedroom 19:24 while the other two skirmished 19:26 eventually a knife was brought into the 19:28 frame 19:29 now Ben didn't specify where the knife 19:31 came from who had it first or what type 19:33 of knife it was however he did admit to 19:36 one being present at the time as a 19:38 result both parties in the fight 19:40 sustained multiple defense wounds though 19:43 Simon sadly would take the brunt of the 19:45 damage the fight was so violent and 19:47 chaotic that the walls of the utility 19:49 room were spattered with blood from 19:51 floor to ceiling after relinquishing the 19:53 knife Ben violently finished Simon off 19:56 by striking him over the head with a 19:58 portable speaker the assault was both 20:00 ferocious and unnecessary in the 20:03 situation and Simon was weak and posed 20:05 very little threat to Ben put quite 20:07 simply Simon had been run ragged by drug 20:10 gangs was in chronic pain had restricted 20:13 use of his right arm and was suffering 20:15 from COPD more commonly known as empyema 20:18 this essentially meaning that he was 20:20 easily exhausted and out of breath given 20:22 all of this information it is hard to 20:25 paint a picture where he outwardly posed 20:27 a threat towards Ben The Aftermath 20:30 in fact those who saw Simon in the days 20:32 before this incident happened did 20:34 comment on how tired and unwell he 20:36 looked while Ben on the other hand was 20:38 not only stronger but had a much more 20:40 significant Advantage leaving this 20:42 entire attack absolutely unwarranted 20:45 sadly this fight would ultimately end in 20:47 Simon's death he had defensive wounds on 20:49 his hands and arms and had 12 stab 20:52 wounds on his chest shoulders and back 20:54 once he had fallen down Simon begged and 20:57 screamed for help but instead Ben gouged 21:00 both of his eyes out with his thumbs 21:02 before smashing his head with a speaker 21:04 so you might be wondering what exactly 21:06 happened to Debbie well the sad truth is 21:09 that she didn't actually care too much 21:11 instead she stayed right by Ben's side 21:14 after this sickening incident the couple 21:16 sold Simon's phone shoplifted the 21:18 hacksaw and got to work on dismembering 21:20 his body most of that final action was 21:23 undertaken by Ben in the utility room 21:25 where he meticulously referenced an 21:27 autonomy book in an effort to dismember 21:29 the body systematically Ben admitted he 21:32 could never have dismembered Simon 21:34 without being severely under the 21:36 influence and he took copious amounts of 21:38 drugs before doing it afterwards he 21:40 started a fire in their garden and tried 21:43 to burn the body parts starting with his 21:45 head this went on for several days and 21:48 in the meantime neighbors noticed the 21:51 putrid smell which Ben and Debbie 21:53 explained Away by claiming it was a dead 21:56 fox but when the head wouldn't burn 21:58 completely Ben decided to dump the 22:01 remaining pieces in Walpole Lane now 22:04 this particular piece of information did 22:06 not come out until February of 2024 22:08 which was 5 months after the murder 22:11 skull fragments recovered from the area 22:13 were positively identified as Simon 22:15 Shodan giving the authorities the final 22:18 piece of the gruesome puzzle now 22:20 although Ben was the main instigator 22:22 Debbie was not free of guilt after the 22:25 attack and dismemberment she helped 22:27 cover up the crime scene and dispose of 22:29 the body furthermore she spent several 22:31 days cleaning the blood splattered 22:33 utility room before Ben then repainted 22:35 the walls she would also sell Simon's 22:37 phone and help shoplift the soore and 22:40 dispose of the body parts so it's safe 22:42 to say that neither of them showed any 22:44 remorse towards Simon's murder I mean 22:47 Ben even seemed proud about it saying to 22:50 Debbie in a police vehicle I'll look him 22:52 straight in the eye and say yeah I'll do 22:54 it again and again and again if you let 22:57 me go today I would find another one and 22:59 do it again drug dealers and pushers 23:02 kill decapitate and eat the bastards 23:05 tragically he also joked about how Simon 23:08 had begged for his life and even 23:10 urinated in his pants before he died the 23:13 pain and fear that Simon must have felt 23:15 must have been absolutely unbearable of 23:17 course Ben would argue that he acted in 23:19 self-defense and had no choice but to 23:22 fight when confronted by Simon however 23:24 Simon's poor physical health 23:26 contradicted this claim The Trials 23:28 with mounting evidence and confessions 23:30 from both Ben and Debbie Court 23:32 proceedings began in May 2024 at 23:34 Winchester Crown Court the pur still 23:37 seemed to show no genuine remorse though 23:39 they did offer empty words of regret to 23:41 Simon's family who were present at the 23:43 trials during this time the judge 23:46 rightly stated the violence he used was 23:48 ferocious unnecessary wholly out of 23:51 proportion you were by far the stronger 23:54 he was of no threat to you so with their 23:56 trials finally concluded they were 23:59 ultimately found guilty but to differing 24:01 degrees Benjamin Atkins would receive a 24:04 life sentence with a minimum of 19 years 24:06 for murdering his lodger and scattering 24:08 his body parts across Bournemouth Debbie 24:10 on the other hand was sentenced to 4 24:12 years for perverting the course of 24:14 justice and preventing the burial of a 24:16 corpse the prosecution pointed out that 24:19 had she called the police when she saw 24:20 the fight happening Simon might even 24:22 still be alive this was a painful 24:25 realization for Simon's own family 24:27 members who were present during the time 24:29 of their sentencing his closest family 24:31 member that being his son Wesley had his 24:34 victim impact statement shared by the 24:36 Barrister in which he said my father 24:38 used drink and drugs to escape the 24:40 battles in his mind the lengths you've 24:43 gone in destroying my dad are completely 24:45 different there was no opportunity for 24:48 us to visit his body to tell him we 24:50 loved him to kiss him goodbye I just 24:52 loved our time together I was every bit 24:55 my daddy's boy the judge stressed that 24:57 this case was one of the largest and 24:59 most complex in the history of Dorset 25:01 police with hundreds of officers from 25:03 different forces involved in the search 25:05 for Simon's 25:07 remains Simon Shodan leaves behind his 25:10 children his parents and his sister to 25:12 mourn his premature death this is 25:14 particularly saddening as he had little 25:16 contact with many of them before passing 25:18 away leaving no opportunity for them to 25:21 be reunited and therefore exacerbating 25:24 their loss it is true Simon did struggle 25:27 with his mental health and substance 25:28 abuse problems though throughout he 25:31 always expressed the intention of 25:33 getting clean not just for himself but 25:35 for those that He Loved by the way it 25:38 was a very notable feature of this case 25:40 that all Witnesses who knew Simon only 25:43 spoke of his warmth and kindness towards 25:45 others and it seemed that no one had a 25:48 bad word to say about him or his 25:50 character instead they expressed sadness 25:52 that he had been denied the opportunity 25:54 to turn his life around and reconnect 25:56 with his family Simon Shodan never 25:59 deserved the brutal fate that befell him 26:01 all of which were at the hands of a 26:03 violent and selfish individual and is 26:05 willing ACC complice the only comfort 26:07 that his family can receive is that his 26:10 murderers are now behind bars and unable 26:13 to take advantage of any other 26:15 vulnerable individuals in the future 26:17 rest in peace Outro 26:21 Simon so anyway I think I'm going to end 26:23 this video here today folks all in all 26:25 this is a very sad story and has left 26:27 three sets of children without a parent 26:30 what I will say is that addiction is a 26:32 terrible Beast hidden in plain sight it 26:35 destroys people and their lives and is 26:37 something that many of us on the outside 26:39 can't even comprehend there is a degree 26:42 of absolute powerlessness when it comes 26:44 to addiction not just for those within 26:46 it but to all of those around too anyway 26:49 if this sort of thing has affected you 26:51 or anyone that you know I implore you to
