which she desperately needed rescuing despite her 0:27 bravery both the operator and the authorities failed her leading to the worst possible outcome and with that 0:34 said their grievous mistakes would cause Mass outrage which led to multiple sackings and dozens of protests when 0:42 detectives eventually traced her last known location what they found was a monster lurking in the shadows one who 0:48 seemed willing to expose several terrible secrets and reveal more than just one victim so who was Alexandra 0:56 maches shanu how did Louisa meenu become part of a story who is this now I don't think we've covered this country before so here is a quick rundown for 3:15 you formerly part of the Iron Curtain Romania has long struggled with its position between the Communist East and 3:21 the Democratic West with 19 million residents is one of Europe's largest nations which at least when compared to 3:29 other European countries is also remarkably quiet in the news and interesting fact but did you know that 3:35 Romania is home to one of Europe's largest underground glaciers today we're focusing on a small city named caracal 3:43 which is located near the country's Southern border derived from the name black Fortress Caracol was the regional 3:49 capital for quite some time with its population peaking at 40,000 in the year 3:54 1992 it has since dropped to 27,000 through industrial hardship the Romanian 4:00 revolution of 1989 saw revolutionists violently overthrow the country's Communist party which would eventually 4:07 lead to Romania's cohesion with the west and while almost all Romanians see this as a massive win for the country it did 4:15 unfortunately see Carl's predominantly agricultural industry collapse nowadays 4:20 it's a sleepy city with a whole bunch of nothing going on I mean you do have several supermarkets and three or four 4:27 industrial zones oh and a military B space nearby but otherwise life here is 4:33 pretty quiet with nothing but small murmurings being the main Talk of the Town however on July the 25th 2019 all 4:41 of that would suddenly change it was at 11:05 that morning that 4:47 a young woman named Alexandra matches shanu dialed 112 which by the way is the 4:52 phone number for a mania's emergency services what you hear behind my voice is the actual recording but with this 4:59 being Romanian it's better that I translate it for you Alexandra greeted the operator by saying hello I want to 5:07 talk to the police I am 15 years old I was kidnapped by a man yesterday the 5:12 operator asks what's your name where the young go then responds Alexandra maanu 5:18 please come quickly I don't know where I am rather confused the operator then asks what do you mean you don't know 5:25 where you are do you know what locality to which Alexandra responds in caracal 5:31 he took me in caracal but I don't know exactly where in an ironic tone the 5:36 responder then replies with well give me a milestone where you are in caracal how do you think we can find you hello were 5:44 you assaulted Alexandra then weekly replies yes wait please don't leave me 5:50 oh no he's coming back he's coming back here please come quickly please the call 5:56 is then abruptly disconnected and for half a minute the the operator who has asked for support from her team member 6:02 is Frozen with what to do they had no idea how to track Alexandra who could 6:08 only confirm the city that she was in but not the house streets or even suburb 6:14 thankfully she would then call back only 1 minute later and this time they would learn of a few more details after 6:21 greeting the caller Alexandra then responds to the operator by saying it's me again I don't know where I am in 6:28 caracal I was blindf fed and when I could see something for the first time I was near a d it is at this point that 6:35 she then incorrectly tells the operator that her abductor is a man named pesu 6:40 Gabrielle it is worth noting here that although she was smart enough to find his business card in the room that she 6:46 was in it did not actually belong to the kidnapper Alexandra then goes on to say 6:52 I cannot see where I am I am locked in a room all I can see is a gate yesterday I 6:57 hitchhiked to go to town that is when he took me in his car he then locked the 7:02 car and told me that he could take me I don't remember the license plate but the car was gray and flath headed I passed a 7:10 dam along the way but now I don't know I think I'm in bold maybe I don't know the 7:17 operator then asks do you have your phone with you to which Alexandra responds yes but he's got it I'm calling 7:25 from his phone now please send someone I am scared the police would then proceeds 7:30 to take over the phone call at 11:07 a.m. again asking Alexandra where precisely she was desperately looking 7:37 around the room for a clue she then said I passed by the dam and I think I'm in 7:42 bold now it can't be anywhere else hold on I found an address it's number n 7:48 Antonius carala Boulevard da now unfortunately this address was not the 7:53 correct one when officers highlighted to Alexandra that this address contained a block of flats she reiterated that she 8:00 was somewhere more Rural and could see a courtyard and a gate by now the operator 8:05 and the officer sounded agitated and even condescending towards Alexandra and so despite her incredible efforts to 8:12 loat a phone call the police twice and then even find Clues and details to her whereabouts her savior seemed audibly 8:19 annoyed the officer then tells her to stay put and that police are coming but she responded by saying she had no 8:25 choice anyway because she was locked in the room she also added that she was EXT extremely scared and that she had been 8:31 beaten by now you could tell that Alexandra was desperately begging for help but between her cries the officer 8:37 who was quite audibly impatient told her to hang up the phone and wait to be contacted terrible attitude aside I feel 8:44 like this advice is the total opposite to what you should say I mean I'm pretty sure in any other country the operator 8:49 would ask you to stay on the line and not hang up and wait alone now unfortunately these phone calls will get 8:55 even worse and will be sure to leave your blood boiling however before we get to those phone calls who precisely was 9:02 Alexandra matches shanu and how did she end up in this mess born on September the 15th 2003 to 9:10 her father and her mother Alexandra was raised on the outskirts of caracal in a 9:15 small village named do Russa Veni described as a friendly and popular girl at school she had absolutely no trouble 9:22 in fitting in with her classmates and after attending primary school she moved on to become a student at the mihai baju 9:29 theoretical High School described as a bright and kind-hearted student she was very close to her family and had big 9:36 aspirations for the future but moving into our case today she was only 15 9:41 years old when this story takes place being from the small village of Doos Leni where the population barely scrapes 9:48 past 3,000 residents she would often make her way into the city to meet friends and go shopping however with 9:55 public transport being unreliable if not existent at all she would often rely on 10:01 other forms of transportation and unfortunately I'm talking about hitchhiking here now hitchhiking is a 10:08 very debatable and controversial topic for a very good reason although some 10:14 people argue that statistically speaking the odds of running into trouble are minuscule there are inherent risks which 10:20 could lead to a catastrophic outcome unpredictable drivers potential for violence or assault being stranded and 10:27 the risk of exploitation are all things that you need to look out for especially if you're young small or female I mean 10:34 if you're 7 foot male and 40 years old and you like to wrestle then you can probably defend yourself however quite 10:41 understandably it is much less advisable if you're a 15-year-old girl but it is worth noting here that hitchhiking is 10:48 much more common in Romania than other countries like America or the United Kingdom in fact it is even illegal in 10:55 parts of Australia including the state of Victoria anyway on July the 24th 2019 11:02 and while visiting friends in the city Alexandra tried to hitch a ride back home to the Village of do Ros Leni and 11:08 unfortunately that is when she would meet a driver who had ulterior motives parking his vehicle beside her the man 11:15 then asked where she was going and after explaining that she needed a lift to go back to do Ros lenni which was only a 11:22 few miles down the road the older man agreed to help her out Alexandra thanked 11:27 the driver popped in the car and then put on her seat belt but after the vehicle was then put in motion the 11:33 driver manually locked all the doors and then told her to remain calm within minutes he stopped the vehicle where 11:40 Alexandra was then forced to place a blindfold over her head of course this preventing her from knowing where 11:46 precisely they were going her abductor then took her to his home where she was then tragically assaulted several times 11:52 throughout the evening alexandre's parents were fairly quick to realize that something was wrong especially 11:58 after she stopped responding to text messages and phone calls and so when that happened they went down to the 12:03 local police department and reported her as missing but it wouldn't be until the following day that Alexandra herself was 12:09 able to make contact with the police this was after her abductor had foolishly left his phone with her while 12:15 leaving the property so I've already described to you the two initial phone calls made by Alexandra to the police 12:21 however there would be a third and final call made only several minutes later and guess what but their response was even 12:28 more infuriating after the phone call was terminated 12:34 Alexander then called Emergency Services yet again the operator picked up the phone to say hello what's the emergency 12:41 Alexandra then asked if they had sent anyone yet to which the operator then reconnected the police officer she then 12:48 asked them please did you send anyone here I am terrified I am scared of the 12:53 man he beat me the officer then responded with we did they cannot fly over to you 2 minutes young lady stay 13:00 there yes who are you scared of who is he Alexandra replied I think his name is 13:06 pesu Lucian Gabriel I don't know I found this business card I thought maybe it's 13:11 his card but I don't know if it's him the officer replied ah so you don't know 13:17 that either okay stay there a squad will arrive in 2 to 3 minutes hold on while 13:22 crying Alexandra once again begged and pleaded for the officers to stay on the phone with her but that is when he said 13:29 Miss I cannot stay on the phone with you we have other calls too stay there for a police crew to arrive and calm down a 13:37 little bit will you clear the phone line if we are stuck on the phone then the crew will not be able to talk to you and 13:44 that is when the phone line was suddenly 13:49 cut when officers arrived at The Address given by Alexandro via that business card they did realize that unfortunately 13:56 it was the wrong address and the wrong name with that in mind officers had no idea where she was and with them forcing 14:03 her to end the phone call well they had no way of communicating with her either no surprise but the police finally 14:09 realized how royally they had screwed up and so they immediately tasked all Personnel to try and locate Alexandra in 14:16 situations like this every single second counts and every minute that passes by feels like an hour and tragically they 14:23 would take 15 hours to trace her calls the police asked the special telecommunication service to help locate 14:30 the phone calls but unfortunately the coordinates given by the STS covered an 14:35 area too large to analyze however police officers were able to find a car in that 14:41 area which did seem to match the description given by Alexandra which was further cooperated by finding this 14:47 surveillance footage with that said they would eventually track the vehicle to a property which belongs to a man named 14:54 gor Dinka who at the time was a 65-year-old mechanic living in the area 14:59 and unfortunately his other job seemed to fit the story too you see on the 15:05 sideline gor was a taxi driver of sorts and I say of sorts because actually he 15:11 was illegally operating as one without a license so with that in mind he may have 15:17 been able to make Alexandra feel safer by claiming that he was one found on the western edge of caracal G's home was a 15:24 monster of a property filled with dense bushes and walls that protected the house and its additional three floors 15:31 not only that but it also had a metal gate that matched the description which was given by Alexandra funnily enough 15:39 they wouldn't have to look very hard to get a profile of gor either because by simple dark coincidence Google Maps had 15:46 even captured several images of the man standing outside of his property only a few weeks prior however here is yet 15:54 another infuriating fact despite learning of her location at 2: a.m. on 15:59 July the 26th police officers and prosecutors decided to wait an additional 4 hours before executing any 16:06 sort of police raid with an active search warrant and by the way this is despite the law not even requiring them 16:13 to have one now I do understand that this could perhaps build a more robust case against him in court but I would 16:20 argue that Alexandra's life was far more critical at this stage anyway officers 16:25 finally raided gor's home at Sunrise to which they found themselves entangled in a horrific scene one that would 16:32 evidently end up being far more gruesome than they had bargained for on the other end of the stick goray was shocked to 16:39 find dozens of officers barging through his front gate the move clearly surprised him so much so that it 16:46 wouldn't take long for gor to reveal his darkest and most depraved secrets to 16:52 which some of them would take many investigators by surprise tragically police off officers 16:59 were too late to save Alexandra by the time they raided his property she had already been dead for several hours 17:06 goray admitted to murdering the young woman after kidnapping beating and assaulting her before then trying to 17:13 dispose of her body by burning it 17:37 after conducting a thorough search of the property and all the grounds nearby they found human remains and jewelry in 17:43 a barrel to which sadly it all belonged to Alexandra however that wouldn't be 17:49 all that police officers would find it turns out that this was not gor's first 17:55 rodeo because after admitting that he had murdered Alexander ra he then diverted investigators attention to 18:01 another missing person's case which sadly had only taken place 3 months 18:07 prior in April it was at this time that an 18-year-old woman named Louisa meenu 18:12 had vanished from her hometown of caracal never to be seen again and well 18:18 it turns out that he was also responsible for her disappearance meaning that at the very least Alexandra 18:24 was the second woman to be murdered on his property as you can imagine The public's response here was strong 18:31 emotional and intense many Romanians were outraged for several reasons which 18:36 would lead to a protest of more than 2,500 people in Bucharest not only were 18:42 they devastated by Alexandra's and Louisa's deaths but they were angry at how the authorities dealt with both of 18:48 their disappearances the sluggish response time was already frustrating enough but what angered the public even 18:55 more was how the officer and the operator would sound s itic and even annoyed during the phone call with 19:01 Alexandra who clearly was terrified for her life while these protests were going 19:06 on Alexandra and Louisa's friends and family both held vigils for their daughters both who were now faced with 19:13 the immeasurable pain of grief and loss however as I will explain later on in 19:19 this video not everyone was on board with their deaths meanwhile in the interrogation room gor told the 19:25 investigators that he burned Alexandra's body to dispose of the evidence while simultaneously confessing that he threw 19:32 Louisa's body into the danu river found nearby however he would later change his 19:37 statements to claim that he also burned Louisa's body he then agreed to take the investigators to a forest where they 19:44 found several cremated bone fragments in an area where he claimed to have disposed her remains but forensic 19:51 experts could not establish an exact DNA profile from these fragments as unfortunately the bones found in the 19:58 woods were too calcinated a state in which all the organic carbon has burned away from the bone leaving it Pure White 20:05 and sometimes unidentifiable sadly DNA tests soon confirmed that the bones found at gor's 20:12 home did in fact belong to 15-year-old Alexandra maches shanu and so with all 20:17 said and done they knew that she had been murdered moving to the legal proceedings 20:23 of this case gor's trial would begin in August of 2022 now in the Romanian system there are no juries and so both 20:30 civil and criminal trials have what we know as a bench trial where a single judge will render the verdict in 20:36 addition to this they also have what they call a finalizing process where the tribunal can take up to one year to 20:42 determine if the verdict and sentence is fair now as we know this man was up against a slew of charges including 20:48 human trafficking child trafficking sexual assault murder and desecration of a corpse and so as expected this man 20:56 would give a lot of resistance in court although he initially confessed to the murder of both women he would later 21:02 change his mind in court and even deny that he had anything to do with their death however his involvement was almost 21:09 irrefutable at this stage in the investigation in addition to the phone call evidence and confession 21:15 surveillance footage also captured his vehicle close to the area where Alexandra hitched to ride which was also 21:21 confirmed by additional surveillance footage of her walking nearby it was determined that the first of his crimes 21:27 began on April the 14th 2019 when at that stage he kidnapped Louisa meenu 21:33 before then taking her to his home while there she was subjected to multiple counts of assaults before then 21:39 tragically being murdered the next day Alexandra suffered the same fate only a few months later in July evidence found 21:47 suggests she had been chained to the man's bed before then being murdered both women would have experienced a 21:53 horrific reality for the last several hours of their lives before the cruel monsters then attempted to burn their 22:00 existence away forever to make this case even more disturbing it turns out that 22:05 gor could not keep his Sick and Twisted Fantasy a secret while Alexandre was 22:10 under his captivity he would then go on to tell one of his friends named Stefan ripeanu who then also assaulted her and 22:18 despite gor being a total pig of a man he somehow actually had a wife and she 22:24 too would also be arrested for potentially carrying knowledge of Louisa's disappear appearance and then 22:29 subsequent murder to add to all of this gor's trial would be wrapped not only in 22:34 controversy but also wild claims despite the evidence and his confession the 22:40 families of Alexandra and Louisa do not believe that gor murdered their daughters by himself and that's because 22:46 they believe that he lied to police officers in order to cover up a human trafficking Network which In fairness is 22:53 known to be a widespread issue in Romania so did gor act alone or did he 22:59 have other accomplices they also believe that the prosecutors who worked on Alexandra's disappearance intentionally 23:05 delayed the raid on his property in order to give him time to hide evidence not only that but it was also noted that 23:13 while working on Louis's disappearance only 3 months prior the prosecutors who obtained surveillance footage of gor's 23:20 car and license plate failed to question him or even conduct a surge on his property now at least personally 23:26 speaking I think there are only two options here there is either gross incompetence in the police force or they 23:33 are actually trying to hide 23:38 something gor's neighbors would also provide conflicting testimonies about smelling anything odd coming from the 23:44 property and none of them saw any fire or smoke coming from the garden as you can imagine the incineration of a human 23:51 body would provide some rather nasty smells so did the wind affect their 23:56 testimonies or was there no f at all obviously the main Theory here is that gor was merely a scapegoat or a porn to 24:03 a wider criminal organization and perhaps even in cahoots with the government it is also noted here that 24:09 dcot which is Romania's homicide agency made multiple mistakes with the evidence available and that's because although 24:16 alexandre's DNA was confirmed to be identified in some of the dental pieces inside the burn barrel some of those 24:22 results were deemed to be inconclusive and that's because some of the teeth found in the barrel did seem to exhibit 24:28 Dental work that Alexandra did not have however the frenic Specialists failed to note this and furthermore they examined 24:35 the teeth as a whole using a destructive method that would render individual analysis of each tooth to be impossible 24:41 afterwards despite the uncertainties of these results Dart would issue a death 24:46 certificate for Alexandra to which her family refused to recognize rumors and controversy aside the judge who was 24:53 working on this case was absolutely Furious and of course he had to act on the evidence available so it's no 25:00 surprise that gor Dinko was ultimately found guilty of all charges and was therefore sentenced to 30 years behind 25:07 bars now according to Romanian law a 30-year sentence is the maximum that a 25:12 person over 65 years of age can receive which is good enough in this case because considering his age he will 25:19 never walk a day free again in addition to a sentence the court also ruled that he must pay moral damages of €700,000 25:27 which which is the equivalent of $722,000 to the two victims families 25:34 although his sentence was not yet final and could theoretically be appealed the court of appeal would ultimately rule 25:40 that 30 years was not only valid and justifiable but also Final in addition 25:46 to this his accomplice Stefan reanu was also sentenced to 12 years in prison it 25:52 should have been more in my opinion but with other inmates knowing why he's there I am sure his time behind bar will 25:58 be Total Carnage and so we conclude the fate of gor Dinka not that he matters 26:04 anyway his despicable behavior and actions which were fueled by disgusting lust and assault would ultimately end 26:11 the lives of two young women who were forced to experience pure Horror in their final hours Alexandra matches 26:19 shanu and Louisa meenu were Bright Young Souls whose lives were lost far too soon 26:25 their dreams laughter and love for their families were tragic ically cut short leaving behind a nation in mourning 26:32 Alexandra's bravery in the face of unimaginable fear stands out very prominently in this case to me she was 26:38 abducted beaten assaulted and then kept caged in a room but despite all of the pain that she experienced she managed to 26:46 find a phone call the emergency services find Clues hidden around the room and ultimately help solve her murder it is a 26:53 terrible shame that the operator and officer were not more helpful during these phone calls 26:58 and the least they could have done was Provide support and comfort to Alexandra in her final conversation with the human 27:05 and I'm not counting yor here because that man is an absolute monster May the memories of Alexandra and Louisa serve 27:12 as a reminder that no one should suffer as they did and this is precisely why Romania continues to fight for better 27:19 laws and rights to protect not only its women but its younger Generations too 27:24 sadly Louisa's grandmother does not accept the tragedy and to this day she believes that her granddaughter will 27:31 eventually return home as a measure of good faith she continues to look after her pet dog and anticipates giving him 27:38 back on her arrival in the aftermath of this case gor's home has since been 27:43 abandoned with overgrown weeds covering every fertile corner of the 27:49 garden this case would also highlight the serious problem of public transportation or the lack of it in the 27:55 Romanian Countryside and how essential h i can be to get around again hitchhiking 28:01 is much less frowned upon in Romania and this is in stark contrast to some countries which have even made it 28:06 illegal for the record Lucian pesu who was the man identified in that business card was completely innocent and not 28:13 related to this case it turns out that he met gor once when he was a retail estate agent and never even knew the man 28:19 by the way after this case several officers including Romania's National Police Chief were all sacked as a result 28:25 unfortunately I couldn't confirm if the operation was fired or not but I certainly hope so another side note but 28:32 this is yet another case where I've witnessed strange remnants of the story being hidden behind Google Maps I have 28:38 to say there is something deeply odd seeing gor on screen ominously staring at the camera a mere few weeks before 28:46 Alexandra was murdered to make matters worse this was after he had killed Louisa and by the way you may see that 28:53 Google Maps identified the image to be taken in 2012 but this is inaccurate and 28:58 I think they've messed around with the data previous news reports captured citations of the image being snapped in 29:03 May of 2019 and also street view images taken in 2012 were not up to this level 29:09 of fidelity I find those street view images to be deeply unsettling it's kind of like he's there forever but yeah I 29:15 guess that pretty much wraps up this case today folks before I go though I'd love to know what you think about this one and I have several questions for you 29:23 to begin with do you think that goray acted alone or do you think there was a wider criminal organization behind him 29:29 and well yeah some do believe that the government was involved so do you believe that too as always please share 29:35 your thoughts in the comments section down below I do genuinely like to read them thank you so much for watching today
