0:00 All of our days have been numbered. No matter how invincible you might feel, make each day count that you live. Hug 0:06 the ones you love. Don't be prideful. Tell them you love them. Carson was my best friend and brother, and I'd switch 0:12 places with him in a heartbeat. Hey there, folks. My name is Adrian, and in today's video, we're heading into the 0:18 deep [music] south to look at a case that rocked a small town named Pearl. You see, it was in the middle of summer 0:23 in Mississippi, where the day stretch endlessly, the crickets never shut up, and the heat is unbearable at best, that 0:30 a mother named Darlene reported her son, Carson, as missing. Carson was a good bloke, by the way, and he had told his 0:36 mother that he was going to meet this woman that he'd been flirting back and forth with on Snapchat, Sly Dog. 0:42 However, as the evening turned into one and then two days, and then Carson missed his shift at work, well, Darly 0:48 knew that something was wrong. And as for the woman that he had met on Snapchat, she wasn't who she had claimed 0:54 to be. And from there on out, let's just say that the story between Carson Cisrunk and Sierra Enskow would only go 1:01 downhill. Welcome or welcome back to Coffee House Crime, folks. And this story is filled with lies, deceit, and 1:07 rather strange social media. And it all centers around a very self-entitled person. And so with that in mind, please 1:14 grab yourself a coffee and let's caffeinate while we investigate. This is the case of Sierra and Sco. 1:30 Ah, the Magnolia State. Welcome to Mississippi, folks. Today we're heading to Pearl, a town which sits just outside 1:37 of Jackson. It's close enough to the city that you're never too far away from life and noise, but absolutely far 1:44 enough that things start to feel a little more local. This is a real American town where Friday nights 1:50 usually revolve around football. Weekends are spent in the great outdoors and the pace of life here doesn't feel 1:57 too quick at all. For a lot of people, this is home in the purest sense of the word. It's all about the big backyards, 2:04 church on Sundays, long drives that take you nowhere, and of course, massive cookouts. Because this is Mississippi, 2:11 after all. Think of rich soul food like smothered pork chops, collarded greens, and [music] cornbread dressing. That's 2:18 the kind of food you find here. And food like that, well, it's usually made with time, care, and tradition. But let's be 2:25 honest here, because not everyone has the hours, the planning, or the energy to pull that off every single night. 2:30 Sometimes you just want to throw a whole bunch of ingredients together and come out with a masterpiece. And thank you so much to HelloFresh for sponsoring today's video. And now, let's get straight back to our 4:22 case. [music] Incredible food aside, Pearl, Mississippi is a slow, safe, and sound place to be. Nothing big ever 4:29 happens here, and the place seldom sees drama, which is what makes this story even more alarming, because soon enough, 4:36 Pearl would see a mystery that soon turned into a nightmare. It was here, and in September of 2022, that a young 4:42 man named Carson Cyrunk just suddenly vanished. And when I say vanished, I mean quite literally. this guy just 4:50 disappeared. You see, Carson's mother, Darlene, started to grow worried when he'd stopped responding to his messages. 4:56 She knew that technically he was out on a date for the weekend. But when that extended into one and then 2 days, and 5:02 he was still not responding to any of her messages, that was very unlike him. So, was there maybe a chance that this 5:09 date had gone so well that Carson and this mystery woman had extended it into two and then 3 days? Well, 5:16 theoretically, yes. But it was very strange that he wasn't responding to his mother. And then when Carson failed to 5:22 show up to his shift at work on the Monday, that is when she knew that something must be wrong. But before we 5:29 get into this date and what precisely happened and who this mystery woman was, let's first take a look at who Carson 5:35 is. Carson was the kind of guy who could technically cause a whole lot of damage, but never did. At 6'4, he was tall, and 5:44 I mean very tall. But despite that, he was always known as little man by his family and was described as someone with 5:51 a heart of gold. 24 years old at the time that he disappeared, he grew up in the Pearl area, surrounded by family, 5:58 friends, and church. Primarily being a welder, Carson was not only good at his job, but loved it, too. But the great 6:05 outdoors was what he really enjoyed. This man enjoyed all the simple but great things in life, like hunting, 6:12 fishing, and spending time in the woods. It's the sort of things that social media can only portray but never 6:18 actually capture. I'm talking about things like long days on the water, early mornings on the porch, and a bunch 6:24 of mates around a hot campfire. And here is an important detail to our case today. But Carson also had a reputation 6:31 for being both reliable and punctual. He was the kind of person who showed up whenever he promised he would, and he 6:37 would always check in with his mother and never venture too far for too long. And then, as we know, in early September 6:44 of 2022, he then suddenly vanished. Now, at first, there was not much information 6:49 to go by, but in the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Carson had told Charlene that he was talking to someone 6:55 on Snapchat. And by the way, this wasn't unusual for him because this was just one of the ways that Carson would meet 7:01 new people. [music] And with Carson being so social and open, Darlene paid no attention to it either. So, when he 7:07 told that he was away for the weekend on this date, nobody panicked. Carson didn't overshare or seem nervous or 7:14 secretive about it. It was all just very matter of fact. There was no full name, 7:19 no background story, and no real expectations of where she was from or how long they'd been talking, only that 7:26 they'd connected on Snapchat a short while ago, and that Carson had plans to hang out with her over Labor Day 7:32 weekend. [music] Now, that lack in detail was not suspicious at the time. However, in hindsight, it would [music] 7:39 stand out because this wasn't a blind date in a busy bar or a group meetup 7:44 with friends around. But instead, Carson was planning to drive 50 mi to meet someone that he'd never met before in a 7:51 quiet and rural area. In fairness, it probably didn't feel too risky to him because Carson trusted everyone. And 7:58 from his perspective, well, he was a Hulk with a big ass truck and nobody was 8:03 knocking him down. So, it was sometime over Labor Day weekend in early September of 2022 that Carson climbed 8:10 into his Ford Raptor, flicked on his favorite tunes, and then headed out to meet a [music] pretty face. And 8:17 unfortunately, that was the last decision that he was ever going to make. 8:24 By the time the weekend had ended, Carson still hadn't returned home. Now, at first that was not particularly 8:31 concerning. But by the time that Monday came and went, and then Tuesday came knocking at the front door. Well, 8:36 Darlene had realized that not only had he not returned home, but he hadn't showed up for work either. It was at 8:43 that moment that things really began to feel quite abnormal for her. Like I said before, Carson wasn't the kind of person 8:50 who disappeared without saying where he was going. He didn't like to ghost his responsibilities [music] and he never 8:55 vanished without telling someone first. Not only that, but his phone was going unanswered. Text messages weren't being 9:02 opened and all of his phone calls rang out until they eventually reached his voicemail. And so by Tuesday, his family 9:10 made the decision to officially report him as missing. Police began their investigation by checking all of the 9:16 local hospitals, calling the local jails, and retracing any and all known movements. But unfortunately, there was 9:23 nothing. No accidents, no arrests, no sightings, and no data. It was kind of 9:29 like this 6'4 man suddenly dropped off the map. However, when they got around 9:34 to checking his bank statements and his financial records, that is when they found something. A transaction on 9:40 Carson's bank account showed a purchase at a convenience store found in New Hebrron, a rural town which is about an 9:47 hour south of where he lived. And when investigators pulled the surveillance footage from that gas station that was 9:53 tied to the small transaction, [music] that is when they finally saw Carson both alive and well. As you can see in 9:59 the surveillance footage, Carson's truck pulled into the gas station before he then eventually steps out. He looks 10:06 normal, relaxed, and in good health. And if you look really closely, you can also tell that he's not alone. through the 10:13 windscreen and in the passenger seat was a young woman who looked exactly like the one he had planned to [music] meet 10:18 on Snapchat. And although this passenger never seems to leave the truck, something else happens instead. After 10:25 Carson walks back to the truck, a third person briefly appears on camera before then speaking directly to the passenger 10:32 through the passenger's window. Shortly after, this unknown man then walks away, allowing Carson to get back behind the 10:39 wheel before then driving off. And that was the last known sighting of him, or at least of what investigators could 10:46 find. From that moment onwards, there was no more surveillance footage, no more messaging, and no more activity on 10:52 social media, just silence. And whatever happened next, well, that clearly must 10:57 have happened where no camera was in sight. Now, with thanks to Darlene's report, it wouldn't take long for 11:03 officers to put Sierra as a main person of interest. And when they decided to go down to a small town named New Hebrron, 11:09 well, let's just say that they were in for a surprise. Almost immediately after arriving, they found Carson's silver 11:16 Ford Raptor, and it wasn't hidden at all. In fact, it was right out there in the open in a car park. And leaning 11:22 against it, was Sierra in scope. When police officers approached her and asked her the obvious question, that being, 11:28 you know, where did you get this truck? Sierra responded literally immediately. It was kind of like she had already 11:35 recited her answer. And according to Sierra, not only did she buy this truck through a stranger with cash and without 11:42 any paperwork, but she had no idea who Carson was. It was very much a who never 11:48 met him, never even heard of him kind of situation. So, by now officers were growing quite suspicious over the 11:54 situation because given the information that they knew, Sierra's story was not quite adding up. And by the way, Ford 12:00 Raptors go for serious money. They're not usually things you just buy on the sly. Nevertheless, Sierra decided to 12:07 stick to her story. She claimed that she just happened to be hanging out in the area and that police officers surely 12:14 must have the wrong end of the stick. The thing is, if investigators had seen the surveillance footage of her sitting 12:20 next to Carson [music] at the gas station, then they likely would have paused longer. However, the thing is 12:26 they had not yet seen that footage. When the officers highlighted that Carson was missing, Sierra doubled down once again 12:33 and insisted that she was with friends that night. Not only that, but she also claimed to have never met Carson and 12:40 that she had no idea why they were connecting her to a missing man. As she was trying to spin this web of lies, 12:47 officers decided to take a closer look inside the truck. And although everything seemed to be clean at first 12:53 glance, officers soon noticed small reddish stains on second inspection. The 12:58 stains were found along the tailgate of the truck and were faint, dried, and easy to miss if you were not looking for 13:04 them. But the officers could tell that unless someone had accidentally dropped a huge bottle of tomato sauce in the 13:10 truck, then this was likely blood. To be more specific here, blood was found 13:15 inside of the truck, on the flatbed, and even underneath, places that are quite hard to clean. And of course, Sierra had 13:22 an immediate response for this, too, because apparently she had hit a deer the night prior. However, the strange 13:28 thing here is that the truck showed no obvious signs of damage or denting. And also, how does running over a deer leave 13:35 blood on the upholstery? Of course, these lies did nothing to help Sierra's defense. If anything, it kind of put her 13:41 more in the spotlight. So once Sierra was on their radar, 13:47 investigators decided to re-examine everything. They first looked back at all of the surveillance footage of the 13:52 area that they believed she was living in. However, circling back to the surveillance footage of Carson in the 13:58 convenience store. They also noticed that the person next to him did absolutely look like Sierra. But if you 14:04 remember, according to her, the two apparently never met. By now, investigators were even more keen to 14:10 contact that third person seen in the surveillance footage. And when they did eventually track him down and speak to 14:16 him, they learned of something extraordinarily important. Because not only did he confirm that the person was 14:23 in fact Sierra, confirming that she and Carson were together that night, but Carson had also told him that they had 14:29 plans to spend the evening together afterwards. Now, of course, what this means is that Sierra lied not only once, 14:36 but multiple times. She lied about knowing Carson, lied about seeing friends that night, and lied about her 14:43 circumstances. [music] And while all of this was going on, forensic analysis on the truck would also confirm that the 14:50 blood found inside didn't belong to a deer, but a human. And not only that, 14:55 but when compared to Carson's DNA, it came back as conclusive. And all of a 15:00 sudden, the chain of events painted a very different story to what Sierra had told officers. I mean, not only had she 15:08 spent time with the man who was now missing, but she also had his vehicle, which had his blood all over it. So, who 15:15 precisely is Sierra Ensow? Well, as investigators started pulling this case 15:20 apart, they were shocked because what they uncovered was both despicable and horrifying. It turns out that for 15:27 multiple years, Sierra had been carefully reinventing herself online, [music] meaning that she had multiple facads 15:34 depending on what you wanted to see. [music] On social media, Sierra didn't present herself authentically, but 15:40 instead as someone that she believed that other people would adore. She saw herself as a country girl, a hard 15:46 worker, and someone who was both grounded and charming. Someone who apparently was safe and sensible. But 15:52 the truth is that Sierra had multiple profiles and gave you one depending on what kind of facade she wanted you to 15:59 see. Her main Facebook profile named Sierra Inskow is mostly innocent but 16:04 also kind of cringe. Her profile describes herself as cornbreadfed and that she also likes to go fishing on the 16:11 first date. In hindsight, I kind of wonder if that was set up towards Carson. You can also see that she posted 16:17 not so deep relationship quotes, many selfies, and talked a lot about heartbreak. But then you have another 16:24 Facebook profile named Go get her Sierra, which is where she would post about heartbreak and independence in a 16:30 more angry and aggressive manner. So, was it sweet and innocent fragile Sierra 16:36 or bad beer Sierra? Well, when people from her past started speaking up, it 16:41 unfortunately seemed to be the latter and for even worse reasons. former friends described her as someone who 16:47 lied constantly, not in a way to only get herself out of trouble, but more as a default way of moving through the 16:54 world. And these were not small lies either. Instead, they were big and dramatic. She claimed careers that she 17:01 didn't have, degrees that she never earned, and even medical diagnosises that never existed. At one stage, she 17:09 had even told people that she had cancer. A lie that is so extreme that some of her friends even rearranged 17:15 their own lives to care for her. They took her in, financially supported her, and looked after her, only to later 17:22 discover that all of this was fake. And when she was confronted about that, well, she didn't apologize. She just 17:29 simply disappeared. Time and time again, Sierra would attach herself to someone who was trusting and willing to help. 17:35 She would rinse them for what she needed, whether that was money, housing, or emotional support. And then, when her 17:42 cover was blown, she would vanish. Her previous partners had reported eerily similar behavior, too. Sierra was 17:48 emotionally manipulative, loved to fabricate diseases, and disappeared whenever she finally got what she 17:55 needed. There are also reports that she was an Only Fans model at one stage, but it's quite hard to find any information 18:01 about this. Oh, and let's not forget about the truck here. Because, as it turns out, this was not just a thing 18:07 that appeared after Carson's disappearance, but actually in an ambition that she had been yapping about 18:13 for months. Multiple people would later come forward to say that Sierra had openly talked about getting herself a 18:19 truck for her birthday. And it wasn't just any truck, but a nice one. Now, on its own, that detail may not have meant 18:26 all too much. But, of course, Carson did own a Ford Raptor. Both investigators 18:31 and prosecutors suddenly realized that maybe Sierra hadn't actually stumbled into Carson's life by chance, but 18:38 instead had actually targeted him. And when you place that theory alongside her history of deception and exploitation 18:45 and her social media, which painted a rather selfish side of her, it all starts to make a grim kind of sense. 18:52 Unfortunately, only a few days after Carson was reported as missing, their search would take a horrible turn. By 18:59 this point in time, investigators no longer assumed that they were going to find him alive, but they still didn't 19:05 know where to find him. And on September the 7th of 2022, all of that changed. It 19:11 was on this day that an oil field worker driving along a remote stretch of land near Gulf Camp Road noticed something 19:18 out of place. While doing his usual routine, he spotted tire tracks leading off the road towards one of the pump 19:25 sites. It was the kind of detail that you don't normally see too often. And so 19:30 after contacting the authorities who then followed those tracks, they found a body lying in the grass near the oil 19:37 well. And as you might have guessed, it was Carson. The area that his body was found was in a quiet and isolated spot. 19:45 It was devoid of any nearby houses or traffic and essentially was just open land with machinery and grass nearby. 19:52 Investigators realized that the condition of his body meant that he had been lying there for at least a few 19:58 days. Exposure to the elements had already began to take its toll, complicating both identification and 20:04 forensic work. However, there was no doubt about what had happened here because they could tell that Carson had 20:11 been shot multiple times. An autopsy would later reveal that he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds with all bullets 20:18 entering at an upward angle from someone down below. All of a sudden, the blood that was found inside of the truck made 20:24 sense. Investigators believe that Carson was probably seated on the tailgate of his own truck when he was shot after he 20:31 had passed away. His body was then moved from where he was shot and then dumped at the oil site, hidden just enough that 20:38 it wouldn't be immediately visible. And then whoever shot him and dumped his body drove his truck away, which of 20:45 course put Sierra in an exceedingly uncomfortable position. 20:52 Now, of course, once Carson's body was found, everything changed all at once. Up until this moment in time, Sierra was 20:59 merely just a theoretical question mark. But now, she was a suspect in murder. I 21:05 mean, at this stage of the investigation, officers already had blood evidence, surveillance footage, a 21:10 body, and the victim's truck under her name. However, in that narrow gap between those interviews with Sierra and 21:17 discovering Carson's body, she did what she always does best. And just like 21:22 Carson, suddenly disappeared. In response, law enforcement issued alerts and tried to track her movements. And at 21:29 first, Sierra did a great job at hiding from officers. But thankfully, that would not last very long because soon 21:35 enough, agents would find her lying low in a neighboring county. If you're wondering how they caught her, she had 21:41 basically messaged her mom from a friend's phone. And of course, once officers knew about that, all they had 21:46 to do was track her friend's phone's IP address, and that led them straight to the address that she was staying in. And 21:52 no surprise, that is when she was arrested. When police officers approached her, she did not resist her 21:58 arrest. Instead, she quietly surrendered herself into custody before then being initially charged with theft of Carson's 22:05 stolen vehicle. Now, of course, that wasn't murder, but the charge was enough to hold her while prosecutors prepared 22:11 for her murder charges in more detail. And from that moment onwards, Sierra 22:16 never walked free again. So, let's take a look at the timeline because by the 22:22 time Sierra had been arrested, police officers and detectives had a pretty good idea of what happened. It all began 22:29 when Sierra first made contact with Carson through Snapchat. Now, they don't have concrete evidence to confirm this, 22:35 but they believe that she targeted Carson after seeing his truck online. Greetings turned into flirting, and 22:41 after a few weeks of teasing, Carson and Sierra decided to meet in person for the first time. That, of course, being on 22:48 the evening of September 4th, 2022. Surveillance cameras placed them together at a convenience store in New 22:54 Hebrron, where Carson can be seen alive, calm, comfortable, and in Sierra's company. Not only does this confirm that 23:01 the two were together, but it also supports the idea that he was comfortable around her. From there, 23:07 investigators believe that Sierra convinced him to drive somewhere more secluded, such as an oil field site or 23:13 some rural back roads. Of course, we can only take a guess at why she may have asked him to take her somewhere 23:20 secluded, and of course, why Carson would have been willing to do so. But either way, it was precisely what Sierra 23:26 needed for the next step of her plan. Once there, the forensic evidence available suggests that Carson exited 23:32 the truck and then sat on the tailgate before then being shot multiple times by Sierra. This is confirmed by the blood 23:39 patterns found in the truck bed and the upward trajectory of his wounds. It's worth noting here that there is no 23:46 evidence of a struggle and no suggestion that Carson was acting in an aggressive or suspicious way. And when Sierra was 23:53 arrested, officers noticed that she did not seem to have any defensive wounds either. This of course suggests that 23:59 Carson had no idea what was coming. After he was murdered, Sierra then transported his body in the bed of his 24:05 truck before dumping him at a second oil well site nearby. This explains the blood that was found both inside and 24:12 underneath the truck and of course the tire tracks that led to where Carson was eventually found and in the hours and 24:19 days that followed. Well, Sierra did try to cover her tracks, but we all know how 24:24 that went. She did try to clean the truck, but even in murder, she was simply too lazy to do it thoroughly. She 24:30 then got rid of all of her clothes, which likely contained blood, and then came up with a laughable story about 24:36 buying the truck from someone else without any paperwork and with cash. And that was it. She then started to brag 24:43 about the truck that she brought herself for her birthday. Sierra's motive was clear as day. It was greedy, reckless 24:49 thievery. She had no personal connection towards Carson before the plot. didn't have any strong feelings towards him, 24:55 negative or positive, and also had no reason to be upset with him. All of this was just dirty greed and total apathy 25:03 towards another human's life. And let's be honest here, but even if we didn't have enough evidence already, her 25:09 history alone is enough to tell you that she is a heartless woman without morals. And if you want my opinion, I believe 25:15 that anyone who fakes a cancer diagnosis actually deserves time in prison. Okay, 25:21 so moving into the legal proceedings of this case. By the time that investigators were done with their 25:26 analysis and once all of the evidence was laid out, the case against Sierra was overwhelming. I mean, surveillance 25:33 footage and DNA analysis aside, the lies that she had trapped herself in were already suspicious enough. In 2023, a 25:41 grand jury formally indicted Sierra for murder. And from there, the question was no longer if she would face 25:47 consequences, but how the case would end. a trial was possible and it was even scheduled too. But the thing is 25:54 that trial would never actually arrive because in July of 2024, Sierra decided 26:00 to plead guilty. Frustratingly, however, and much like last week's case, her 26:06 guilty plea would not offer any alternative version of events or even reason. It was merely an admission, and 26:13 that was literally it. Thankfully, during the hearing, she would actually address the court and Carson's [music] 26:19 family directly. And for the first time since he had disappeared, she admitted to his family that she had unfortunately 26:27 murdered [music] him. But in a way, it brought closure to finally hear those words out loud. As a result of her 26:33 crimes, the judge sentenced Sierra to 40 years in prison with 35 years to be 26:39 served without the possibility of parole. In real terms, that means that Sierra will spend the majority of her 26:45 life behind bars. Sierra's plea, as cowardly and lazy as it was, would of 26:51 course avoid a long and painful trial for Carson's family. However, it also meant that Carson's family would never 26:57 hear her motive, behavior, or movements in detail, and often wonder about this. 27:03 But what is the lesser of two evils here? Would it be better to avoid the trial, the pain, and ever knowing at 27:09 all? or does the information bring more peace and understanding in the long run? The truth is that this never should have 27:16 happened and never should have been a story to begin with. Carson should still be here with his family and he isn't. 27:22 All simply for a truck. Before I go, I'd like to read a few lines from his obituary because Carson wasn't just a 27:29 name in a video or a news article, but a person just like you and me. Carson was 27:34 called as a best friend by many. Some called him brother, a few called him baby, and others even called him 27:40 Padawan. He loved unconditionally and never judged anyone. With Carson loving 27:45 fishing and being dedicated to God, his mother Darlene likes to believe that maybe God decided that he wanted Carson 27:52 to show him how to hunt and fish in heaven. It is said that he had the kindest soul and was very loving. And 27:59 friends remember his laugh, which was loud, genuine, and impossible not to join in on. 28:07 You know, cases like this are always hard to sit with. Not because they are complex or ultimately mysterious, but 28:14 because they are so simple and stupid. Carson was not being reckless. He wasn't impulsive with his behavior, and he 28:21 wasn't looking for trouble either. He was merely trying to trust someone that he would like to have been closer to. 28:26 And ultimately, that trust cost him his life. In a world where meeting people online has now become so completely 28:33 normal, this story reminds us that we have no idea who we may end up meeting.
