I see enlargement 00:06:14.160 --> 00:06:16.600 of properties. Even the natural borders of this 00:06:16.600 --> 00:06:18.839 property, says the Lord, will increase. And God really 00:09:46.769 --> 00:09:49.110 favored us and carried us through a lot of very 00:09:49.110 --> 00:09:52.240 difficult circumstances. Interesting, we were 00:09:52.240 --> 00:09:54.919 talking with your pastors last night. God has 00:09:54.919 --> 00:09:58.200 a way of maturing leaders as you serve God's 00:09:58.200 --> 00:10:02.100 people. We don't just, oh, there's the smuckers. 00:10:02.139 --> 00:10:05.379 I see you right there. I did. We had to learn what it was 00:10:26.309 --> 00:10:28.389 to be married and build a healthy marriage. We 00:10:28.389 --> 00:10:30.149 had to learn what it meant to overcome natural 00:10:30.149 --> 00:10:34.009 disaster. We had a trial and a flood hit our 00:10:34.009 --> 00:10:36.029 facility and wiped out everything that we had 00:10:36.029 --> 00:10:38.889 built over 10 years in the natural. But the next 00:10:38.889 --> 00:10:42.549 Sunday, we stood in a facility that was a Seventh 00:10:42.549 --> 00:10:46.019 -day Adventist building. The pastor of the Seventh 00:10:46.019 --> 00:10:47.460 -day Adventist church was in the back trying 00:10:47.460 --> 00:10:49.299 to make sure we didn't speak in tongues in his 00:10:49.299 --> 00:10:52.700 building. We didn't have our own building anymore, 00:10:52.879 --> 00:10:57.419 but the room was full of people. And I knew that 00:10:57.419 --> 00:11:00.299 the house of God was the people of God. That's 00:11:00.299 --> 00:11:04.500 what I knew. The building wasn't the issue. The 00:11:04.500 --> 00:11:06.960 natural things only speak to spiritual things. 00:11:07.200 --> 00:11:09.580 The external points to the internal. This is 00:11:09.580 --> 00:11:13.399 how God works in the kingdom. God carried us 00:11:13.399 --> 00:11:15.519 through, gave us a new facility. We went multi 00:11:15.519 --> 00:11:18.019 -site, and we had no idea that we'd go back and 00:11:18.019 --> 00:11:22.220 eventually succeed Pastor Mark Estes and become 00:11:22.220 --> 00:11:25.779 the senior pastors of Manor House. And it's just 00:11:25.779 --> 00:11:27.740 a great privilege. We've been in that role two 00:11:27.740 --> 00:11:32.659 years. When you're the senior pastor of Manor 00:11:32.659 --> 00:11:36.940 House, you're also leading the college. And I 00:11:36.940 --> 00:11:40.340 took on this task, and I have literally felt 00:11:40.340 --> 00:11:43.799 in over my head. I actually think that that's 00:11:43.799 --> 00:11:47.759 where God wants us all to be. In a space where 00:11:47.759 --> 00:11:51.080 it's not about you. It's about God's work in 00:11:51.080 --> 00:11:53.360 you. And it's about a team. It's about a family. 00:11:53.820 --> 00:11:57.340 It's about everybody's gifts being pooled together. 00:11:57.539 --> 00:12:00.659 He might put his hand on a man and a woman to 00:12:00.659 --> 00:12:03.480 lead and to champion the cause and to set out 00:12:03.480 --> 00:12:05.940 the pattern and the model and the DNA. But there's 00:12:05.940 --> 00:12:07.960 got to be a team that rallies to it and a spiritual 00:12:07.960 --> 00:12:11.070 family begin to form. And over the last two years, 00:12:11.090 --> 00:12:15.149 a new chapter for us of family being formed and 00:12:15.149 --> 00:12:18.590 a new season of visitation, a new season of revelation 00:12:18.590 --> 00:12:21.490 and insight into the future has started to come 00:12:21.490 --> 00:12:23.169 to the house. And it's been a beautiful thing. 00:12:23.210 --> 00:12:25.950 We've had to clean up some things. There's challenges that 00:12:41.259 --> 00:12:43.340 have to be dealt with. And you've got to clean 00:12:43.340 --> 00:12:45.320 up some things at different seasons. But if you 00:12:45.320 --> 00:12:48.039 respond right, you take the mess and you turn 00:12:48.039 --> 00:12:50.600 it into something beautiful. It becomes part 00:12:50.600 --> 00:12:52.899 of the story. It becomes part of what God's doing. 00:12:53.179 --> 00:12:55.399 And so the word that the Lord started to give 00:12:55.399 --> 00:12:59.379 our church was rise and rebuild. Rise and rebuild. 00:12:59.440 --> 00:13:02.679 Actually, don't just allow the pressure of even 00:13:02.679 --> 00:13:06.039 what's happened in a broken down city. The city 00:13:06.039 --> 00:13:07.940 of Portland, you probably heard about it maybe 00:13:07.940 --> 00:13:13.799 the last few years. We faced some challenges. 00:13:14.679 --> 00:13:17.039 The Oregonian wrote a story about the city of 00:13:17.039 --> 00:13:19.360 Portland, said it's in a doom loop. There's five 00:13:19.360 --> 00:13:21.620 criteria of a doom loop, and we got all five 00:13:21.620 --> 00:13:25.600 of them working not in our favor. A doom loop 00:13:25.600 --> 00:13:28.539 is actually working so against the economics 00:13:28.539 --> 00:13:31.620 and... And the civilization of the city that 00:13:31.620 --> 00:13:34.100 it's going backwards. And it's going backwards. 00:13:34.139 --> 00:13:36.379 It's headed towards bankruptcy. The Oregonians 00:13:36.379 --> 00:13:38.500 saying, hey, wave the flag. Something's wrong 00:13:38.500 --> 00:13:42.919 here. Other cities actually end up destitute 00:13:42.919 --> 00:13:45.200 when they're on this path. It's a very interesting 00:13:45.200 --> 00:13:47.740 thing to take the leadership of a 75 -year -old 00:13:47.740 --> 00:13:50.379 church that's actually also kind of coming under 00:13:50.379 --> 00:13:53.240 the cloud of the region. And dealing with, hey, 00:13:53.340 --> 00:13:55.480 are we going to be able to reinvent and refresh 00:13:55.480 --> 00:13:59.980 ourselves in the next chapter? Or is this it? 00:14:01.639 --> 00:14:05.320 I pastored in an impoverished city. I'm now pastoring 00:14:05.320 --> 00:14:08.179 again in an impoverished city. And this is what 00:14:08.179 --> 00:14:11.519 I've come to realize. God sends people to impoverished 00:14:11.519 --> 00:14:14.679 places because he wants to reverse the downward 00:14:14.679 --> 00:14:17.720 draft. He wants to turn things around for his 00:14:17.720 --> 00:14:21.220 glory. And he tends to work in cities and in 00:14:21.220 --> 00:14:25.580 regions in stages. And what he does in one stage 00:14:25.580 --> 00:14:29.460 is preparation for the next stage. And if we'll 00:14:29.460 --> 00:14:32.559 build line upon line and layer upon layer with 00:14:32.559 --> 00:14:35.679 him, I don't believe there's any end to the glory 00:14:35.679 --> 00:14:38.399 that God wants to reveal in his house. I think 00:14:38.399 --> 00:14:40.539 it's just a matter of whether the people of God 00:14:40.539 --> 00:14:46.740 will join him in what he's doing. I also have 00:14:46.740 --> 00:14:48.879 come to realize that just because you start a 00:14:48.879 --> 00:14:51.779 rebuild doesn't mean you're going to finish the 00:14:51.779 --> 00:14:55.259 rebuild. Darrell, what do you mean by that? Sometimes 00:14:55.259 --> 00:14:57.600 people get tired. Sometimes people get weary. 00:14:57.740 --> 00:15:01.000 Sometimes people settle back into the status 00:15:01.000 --> 00:15:04.519 quo. And what God wants to do is actually take 00:15:04.519 --> 00:15:07.360 one layer and build upon it and establish the 00:15:07.360 --> 00:15:11.399 next and the next and the next. In order to really 00:15:11.399 --> 00:15:15.139 get this in my spirit as a leader, as a person 00:15:15.139 --> 00:15:18.720 who's called to a part of our region, I had to 00:15:18.720 --> 00:15:22.080 begin to immerse myself in truths of rebuild. 00:15:23.670 --> 00:15:27.850 truths of seasonal working of God, how he works 00:15:27.850 --> 00:15:30.389 to come into a region and plant something and 00:15:30.389 --> 00:15:33.669 begin a journey, but then continue that journey 00:15:33.669 --> 00:15:36.990 into the next stage. So I started to study the 00:15:36.990 --> 00:15:39.649 work of Nehemiah, and I studied the rebuild of 00:15:39.649 --> 00:15:43.639 the wall in Jerusalem. And I studied it from 00:15:43.639 --> 00:15:45.379 one end to the other, ended up preaching in our 00:15:45.379 --> 00:15:47.399 church on it. And I realized the unbelievable 00:15:47.399 --> 00:15:50.299 feat of how God worked in Nehemiah's life to 00:15:50.299 --> 00:15:54.100 get him to not only go to Jerusalem. I say go 00:15:54.100 --> 00:15:57.559 because he went there. He didn't return. He never 00:15:57.559 --> 00:16:02.539 had been there. He was raised in captivity. And 00:16:02.539 --> 00:16:05.980 in that place of Babylonian captivity, he sovereignly 00:16:05.980 --> 00:16:11.250 was led by the Holy Spirit. into a place of political 00:16:11.250 --> 00:16:14.409 power and authority and influence to be the cupbearer 00:16:14.409 --> 00:16:17.649 of the king and one day sovereignly god had the 00:16:17.649 --> 00:16:21.029 king and his wife sitting in the presence of 00:16:21.029 --> 00:16:23.730 nehemiah and they noticed his sadness and his 00:16:23.730 --> 00:16:25.710 sorrow what was his sorrow his sorrow was that 00:16:25.710 --> 00:16:28.029 he heard from his brother the state of jerusalem 00:16:28.029 --> 00:16:31.610 he went back to jerusalem and when he got there 00:16:32.269 --> 00:16:34.870 He saw the devastation of the city and God gave 00:16:34.870 --> 00:16:38.529 him not only strategy, but means and people and 00:16:38.529 --> 00:16:42.309 team. And in 52 days, he rebuilt the walls of 00:16:42.309 --> 00:16:49.330 Jerusalem. It was an unbelievable feat. But I... 00:16:49.580 --> 00:16:52.580 come to the conclusion after not only studying 00:16:52.580 --> 00:16:55.279 Nehemiah's life, there were other builders at 00:16:55.279 --> 00:16:58.320 other seasons that also built parts of the city. 00:16:58.419 --> 00:17:02.000 And the wall was one part of the story. And this 00:17:02.000 --> 00:17:03.720 is what I'm trying to get to. I believe your 00:17:03.720 --> 00:17:07.180 first 25 years is one part of the story. But 00:17:07.180 --> 00:17:10.640 it's not the entirety of the story. Whatever 00:17:10.640 --> 00:17:12.920 God has done up to this point has been beautiful. 00:17:13.319 --> 00:17:16.740 The walls of Jerusalem. If you go read the book 00:17:16.740 --> 00:17:18.400 of Nehemiah, it had to do with the identity. 00:17:19.160 --> 00:17:22.880 Had to do with security. Had to do with principles 00:17:22.880 --> 00:17:26.700 and policies and order and celebration. It was 00:17:26.700 --> 00:17:30.740 a beautiful part of the building. But its purpose 00:17:30.740 --> 00:17:36.200 was to contain the presence of God. The walls 00:17:36.200 --> 00:17:40.359 were not about the walls. The walls were about 00:17:40.359 --> 00:17:44.180 the presence within the walls. The walls were 00:17:44.180 --> 00:17:46.460 about the presence within the walls. Before there 00:17:46.460 --> 00:17:50.460 was ever a wall to be rebuilt, the presence of 00:17:50.460 --> 00:17:54.519 God had to be welcomed into a temple that needed 00:17:54.519 --> 00:17:59.940 to be built. Before Nehemiah, there was Ezra. 00:18:01.089 --> 00:18:02.990 Before the fortification of the walls, there 00:18:02.990 --> 00:18:05.910 was the foundation. And the foundation was the 00:18:05.910 --> 00:18:09.289 temple. And before the Lord sent Nehemiah to 00:18:09.289 --> 00:18:11.289 rebuild the wall, he called on the people, I 00:18:11.289 --> 00:18:13.789 want you to build the house of the Lord. This 00:18:13.789 --> 00:18:16.829 is what I'm sensing from the Lord and why I felt 00:18:16.829 --> 00:18:20.190 to go down this road today. It's your greatest opportunity yet. Ezra chapter 1, in the first year of Cyrus, 00:27:31.200 --> 00:27:33.279 king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word 00:27:33.279 --> 00:27:37.480 of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved 00:27:37.480 --> 00:27:40.039 the heart of Cyrus, king of Persia, to make a 00:27:40.039 --> 00:27:42.220 proclamation throughout his realm and also put 00:27:42.220 --> 00:27:45.539 it in writing. This is what Cyrus, king of Persia, 00:27:45.539 --> 00:27:50.039 says. The Lord, the God of heaven, has given 00:27:50.039 --> 00:27:52.099 me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he's appointed 00:27:52.099 --> 00:27:55.160 me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in 00:27:55.160 --> 00:27:58.859 Judea. Why was Cyrus called upon by God to build 00:27:58.859 --> 00:28:01.779 a temple? Any of his people among you may go 00:28:01.779 --> 00:28:04.440 up to Jerusalem in Judea or Judah and build the 00:28:04.440 --> 00:28:06.160 temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God 00:28:06.160 --> 00:28:08.799 who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with 00:28:08.799 --> 00:28:12.000 them. And in any locality where survivors may 00:28:12.000 --> 00:28:14.259 now be living, the people are to provide them 00:28:14.259 --> 00:28:16.380 with silver and gold, the goods and the livestock, 00:28:16.480 --> 00:28:18.299 and with freewill offerings for the temple of 00:28:18.299 --> 00:28:21.700 God in Jerusalem. Then the family heads of Judah 00:28:21.700 --> 00:28:24.299 and Benjamin, priests and Levites, everyone whose 00:28:24.299 --> 00:28:27.779 heart God had moved, prepared to go up and build 00:28:27.779 --> 00:28:31.900 the house of the Lord in Jerusalem. If I took 00:28:31.900 --> 00:28:33.920 that portion of scripture and put a title over 00:28:33.920 --> 00:28:35.579 it, I'd call it when the word went out, when 00:28:35.579 --> 00:28:37.519 the word went out, the word of the Lord went 00:28:37.519 --> 00:28:40.950 out. That's what's happening over these weeks 00:28:40.950 --> 00:28:44.450 of this anniversary celebration month. Prophetic 00:28:44.450 --> 00:28:46.410 word. You're just rehearsing what it is God is 00:28:46.410 --> 00:28:52.210 saying. Babylonian Empire had come against Jerusalem, 00:28:52.430 --> 00:28:55.069 torn down their walls, and here the word of the 00:28:55.069 --> 00:28:57.990 Lord comes. But it wasn't the only time the word 00:28:57.990 --> 00:29:02.549 of the Lord came. God had been speaking for decades 00:29:02.549 --> 00:29:05.529 about what would happen. And that's the thing 00:29:05.529 --> 00:29:08.519 you've got to begin to understand. You enter 00:29:08.519 --> 00:29:11.359 the story of God when you're born, but he actually 00:29:11.359 --> 00:29:14.279 wrote your story into his story before you were 00:29:14.279 --> 00:29:18.119 ever born. So we've got a century 00:33:20.359 --> 00:33:23.259 and a half before Cyrus of Persia was born.
