I've got a couple other things. So I kept 00:00:45.170 --> 00:00:48.310 firing James things all weekend. Thursday, I 00:00:48.310 --> 00:00:49.810 sent him something. It is a intense passage. last time we kind 00:01:39.620 --> 00:01:43.680 of spent time allowing the Lord in communion 00:01:43.680 --> 00:01:48.400 to dig out of us any area. We set with about 00:01:48.400 --> 00:01:52.859 three, four or five points of just letting the 00:01:52.859 --> 00:01:56.400 Spirit of God move through us as we kind of prepared 00:01:56.400 --> 00:01:59.019 ourselves and allowed the Word of God and the 00:01:59.019 --> 00:02:04.620 Spirit of God to literally reveal to us if there 00:02:04.620 --> 00:02:11.270 was anything that was outside his will, his character, 00:02:11.650 --> 00:02:14.129 his nature that we were operating in so that 00:02:14.129 --> 00:02:17.650 we could what? Be clean at his table. This morning, 00:02:17.729 --> 00:02:21.569 I'm going to come at this passage a little bit 00:02:21.569 --> 00:02:24.169 different. I get that, there is that principle of it, 00:02:49.319 --> 00:02:52.680 but there is something else in this passage that 00:02:52.680 --> 00:02:58.400 I believe that the church often, well, fact is, 00:02:58.990 --> 00:03:01.909 I don't know if I have ever heard this preached 00:03:01.909 --> 00:03:04.789 about what I'm ready to preach. And now that 00:03:04.789 --> 00:03:09.469 scares me. Pastor Frank, Dr. Damasio always used 00:03:09.469 --> 00:03:12.009 to tell me, if you think you've heard something 00:03:12.009 --> 00:03:15.330 that nobody else has heard, you better double 00:03:15.330 --> 00:03:17.610 check it, triple check it, and then call me. 00:03:19.680 --> 00:03:22.639 That was kind of his advice to me as a young 00:03:22.639 --> 00:03:26.659 preacher. And so as I'm looking at this truth, 00:03:26.800 --> 00:03:31.139 I realize that God is, there's, thank you, sir. 00:03:31.259 --> 00:03:33.479 God has got some things. See, the traditional passage when you read 00:03:58.879 --> 00:04:05.340 this is that you kind of move into a somber, 00:04:05.400 --> 00:04:14.780 oh God, I'm messed up. Now you can turn to your 00:04:14.780 --> 00:04:16.620 neighbor right now and just confess that if you'd 00:04:16.620 --> 00:04:23.480 like. But often we stay, we stay in that place 00:04:23.480 --> 00:04:28.439 of I'm messed up. We stay in that place of I'm 00:04:28.439 --> 00:04:31.800 not deserving. And instead of coming to the communion 00:04:31.800 --> 00:04:35.639 table, there's two things that should begin to 00:04:35.639 --> 00:04:38.459 take place at the communion table. One, it's 00:04:38.459 --> 00:04:42.860 a recognition that who we were and who we used 00:04:42.860 --> 00:04:46.360 to be and the mindsets that have carried in us 00:04:46.360 --> 00:04:50.040 and maybe still in us need to still keep getting 00:04:50.040 --> 00:04:54.139 out so that we can, what, hear God, experience 00:04:54.139 --> 00:04:58.519 God, allow not only his love to come and invade 00:04:58.519 --> 00:05:02.139 us, but actually have fellowship and be strong 00:05:02.139 --> 00:05:04.680 enough in our relationship of knowing what he's 00:05:04.680 --> 00:05:07.959 done for us in his invitation that we could hear 00:05:07.959 --> 00:05:11.850 him talk to us. The problem is, most of the time, 00:05:11.930 --> 00:05:17.670 I'm saying most of the time, right? Do this as often as you drink it in 00:06:29.930 --> 00:06:35.149 remembrance of me. I'm gonna read. 26 is where 00:06:35.149 --> 00:06:36.709 we're going to kind of get to the crux of the 00:06:36.709 --> 00:06:39.230 matter. But you need to understand the majority 00:06:39.230 --> 00:06:45.009 of our communion messages that we preach or that 00:06:45.009 --> 00:06:48.529 we've been a part of, if you've been a Christian 00:06:48.529 --> 00:06:52.019 for any length of time, And you've listened to 00:06:52.019 --> 00:06:55.180 communion messages or the short renditions of 00:06:55.180 --> 00:06:58.839 them, which is more popular now. It's an add 00:06:58.839 --> 00:07:01.800 -on thing. It's kind of like a bacon on your 00:07:01.800 --> 00:07:04.120 cheeseburger at a restaurant. You know, that 00:07:04.120 --> 00:07:06.459 communion isn't actually highlighted. It's just 00:07:06.459 --> 00:07:10.600 kind of a side dish thrown onto the meal. If 00:07:10.600 --> 00:07:13.220 you've heard it, everything in remembrance is 00:07:13.220 --> 00:07:16.839 usually done with a somber reflecting, almost 00:07:16.839 --> 00:07:23.019 like a memorial service. Are you there? Who told 00:07:23.019 --> 00:07:28.339 you that remembrance is supposed to be a memorial? 00:07:30.160 --> 00:07:38.259 Who told you that remembrance is supposed to 00:07:38.259 --> 00:07:43.779 be a memorial? When Jesus is taking this cup 00:08:09.269 --> 00:08:12.550 and taking this meal, he's saying what? Do this 00:08:12.550 --> 00:08:18.860 in remembrance of me. Listen, it was not. That is the 00:10:07.789 --> 00:10:11.940 foundation. of what we deal with when we deal 00:10:11.940 --> 00:10:15.799 with communion. For as often as you eat this 00:10:15.799 --> 00:10:20.320 bread and you drink this cup, you proclaim the 00:10:20.320 --> 00:10:23.480 Lord's death until he comes. Now we read that 00:10:23.480 --> 00:10:31.919 and we want to think cross, suffering, crucifixion, 00:10:31.919 --> 00:10:38.570 pain, despair. My God, my God, why has thou forsaken 00:10:38.570 --> 00:10:41.649 me? And in Moses, the scripture's clear. 00:14:37.250 --> 00:14:41.490 You did not go to heaven. You went to the righteous 00:14:41.490 --> 00:14:45.090 place of Sheol called Abraham's bosom. Whoever eats this bread and drinks 00:17:56.269 --> 00:18:00.369 this cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty 00:18:00.369 --> 00:18:05.529 of profaning. Profaning means what? Defiling, 00:18:05.650 --> 00:18:09.769 doesn't it? Profaning means taking something 00:18:09.769 --> 00:18:13.529 that should be right and true and holy and bringing 00:18:13.529 --> 00:18:22.730 a disdain or a tint or an evil to it. Right? 00:18:23.210 --> 00:18:25.930 If you profane something, you're taking something 00:18:25.930 --> 00:18:29.269 that you don't like and you're, in essence, you're 00:18:29.269 --> 00:18:31.630 not necessarily cursing it, but you are bringing 00:18:31.630 --> 00:18:37.930 it to a less than state on purpose. Verse 28. 00:18:38.359 --> 00:18:41.079 Therefore, let a person examine themselves so 00:18:41.079 --> 00:18:44.180 to eat the bread and drink the cup. That's what it almost makes you 00:19:19.259 --> 00:19:22.400 feel is like you're holding on to a live couple 00:19:22.400 --> 00:19:24.819 of cords that if you touch it wrong, it's just 00:19:24.819 --> 00:19:30.420 going to shock the, I'm eating and drinking judgment 00:19:30.420 --> 00:19:34.049 to myself. Now, there are some realities to that, 00:19:34.089 --> 00:19:37.730 but I want you to think something different here. 00:19:39.089 --> 00:19:42.049 It says here, this is why many of you are weak 00:19:42.049 --> 00:19:45.630 and ill and some have died. But if we judged 00:19:45.630 --> 00:19:48.569 ourselves truly, we would not be judged. But 00:19:48.569 --> 00:19:50.849 when we're judged by the Lord, we are disciplined 00:19:50.849 --> 00:19:54.170 so that we may not be condemned along with the 00:19:54.170 --> 00:19:58.359 world. All right. That's the whole passage. Let's 00:19:58.359 --> 00:20:01.859 look at this verse, 1129. 1 Corinthians 1129. 00:20:01.980 --> 00:20:05.500 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning 00:20:05.500 --> 00:20:08.640 the body eats and drinks judgment to himself. 00:20:08.859 --> 00:20:11.680 Let's take a look at the Greek here just a bit. 00:20:11.799 --> 00:20:17.099 This word discerning is the Greek word dakarino. 00:20:18.680 --> 00:20:21.440 It actually, discernment actually means, you 00:20:21.440 --> 00:20:25.460 see it, dia and krino. Krino means a type of 00:20:25.460 --> 00:20:29.210 judgment. Literally, it means this word discerning. 00:20:29.809 --> 00:20:32.890 The better word for this, we don't like this 00:20:32.890 --> 00:20:35.849 word, but I'm going to use it. The best word 00:20:35.849 --> 00:20:41.089 to describe this is discrimination.
