And each time we have met together in this 00:06:56.649 --> 00:06:59.389 last seven, eight weeks, we've watched the spirit 00:06:59.389 --> 00:07:02.529 of God. The fact is it's actually been since 00:07:02.529 --> 00:07:09.670 our fire on the altar meeting that God has just 00:07:09.670 --> 00:07:15.279 been pouring out more of his. tangible presence. 00:07:15.439 --> 00:07:18.139 Now that doesn't mean that he's increased. He 00:07:18.139 --> 00:07:22.879 doesn't increase. He is who he is. He fills everything. 00:07:23.220 --> 00:07:27.759 But he's answering some of our prayers in regard 00:07:27.759 --> 00:07:34.639 to us encountering him. And we call it, we know 00:07:34.639 --> 00:07:36.319 that the presence of the Lord is everywhere, 00:07:36.540 --> 00:07:39.759 but we call it when we experience what we experienced 00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:42.699 this morning, not only is it the rhema word of 00:07:42.699 --> 00:07:46.579 the Lord speaking to us out of his love for us 00:07:46.579 --> 00:07:49.480 personally from the scriptures, but it's what 00:07:49.480 --> 00:07:53.160 we call the manifest presence. His manifested 00:07:53.160 --> 00:07:56.980 presence comes, which means what? It's experiential. 00:07:57.300 --> 00:08:04.360 And we don't highlight experience over the truth, 00:08:04.600 --> 00:08:09.139 but truth should lay the platform for experience. 00:08:11.810 --> 00:08:15.069 That's the whole point. Because the prayer, the prayer that the 00:08:34.750 --> 00:08:37.950 apostle Paul prayed that was for the whole church 00:08:37.950 --> 00:08:41.919 in Ephesians, I pray that you would know, and 00:08:41.919 --> 00:08:44.759 experience the height, the depth, the breadth, 00:08:44.820 --> 00:08:48.039 the width of the love of God. The love of God 00:08:48.039 --> 00:08:55.100 is not mental. It comes to your mind, it comes 00:08:55.100 --> 00:08:59.960 to your thoughts, but it is by nature both. a 00:08:59.960 --> 00:09:03.659 faith receiving it, a mental understanding of 00:09:03.659 --> 00:09:07.840 it, and a what? And in 00:10:48.960 --> 00:10:53.460 that process of this message here, just reminding 00:10:53.460 --> 00:10:59.000 us as believers that our understanding, the building 00:10:59.000 --> 00:11:02.899 blocks of our faith and the progression of our 00:11:02.899 --> 00:11:07.559 discipleship with Jesus Christ is about our partnership 00:11:07.559 --> 00:11:12.059 with him. That means that everything that God 00:11:12.059 --> 00:11:15.600 has for us, everything that he has for not just 00:11:15.600 --> 00:11:20.620 us as this, local church, and all of us that 00:11:20.620 --> 00:11:23.980 have been planted by the Lord here. But everything 00:11:23.980 --> 00:11:26.100 he has for us as a church and everything he has 00:11:26.100 --> 00:11:30.200 for you as the church personally is all found 00:11:30.200 --> 00:11:33.700 in the journey of discipleship with Jesus Christ. 00:11:34.460 --> 00:11:38.299 It's all found in it. You're not going to find 00:11:38.299 --> 00:11:43.500 your fullness living in just what you've already 00:11:43.500 --> 00:11:46.750 known. Now that doesn't mean that we're looking 00:11:46.750 --> 00:11:49.610 for extra truth because all the truth that we 00:11:49.610 --> 00:11:53.090 need is found in the pages of the Holy Scriptures 00:11:53.090 --> 00:11:55.850 between Genesis and Revelation. But it means 00:11:55.850 --> 00:11:58.929 that you're learning to grow by the Holy Spirit 00:11:58.929 --> 00:12:02.470 as he moves you through his truth and talks to 00:12:02.470 --> 00:12:05.909 you and you're in a living partnership. That's 00:12:05.909 --> 00:12:11.039 the whole point. Discipleship is not... I mean, 00:12:11.100 --> 00:12:13.220 I know it's got the word discipline in it, but 00:12:13.220 --> 00:12:19.779 discipleship is about the discipline of prayer 00:12:19.779 --> 00:12:23.679 and of worship turns into delight of partnership 00:12:23.679 --> 00:12:30.019 and fellowship. And so Jesus leads us into his 00:12:30.019 --> 00:12:33.639 truth. He's the one who bridges the gap between 00:12:34.590 --> 00:12:37.730 The pages here between the Olds and the New Testament 00:12:37.730 --> 00:12:41.289 giving us, as he did, he gave the disciples understanding 00:12:41.289 --> 00:12:44.830 of what the Holy Spirit was speaking in the Old 00:12:44.830 --> 00:12:48.429 Covenant to reveal it in a now expression that 00:12:48.429 --> 00:12:53.490 is still active and alive. There's nothing in 00:12:53.490 --> 00:12:58.190 this scripture that is not alive. It's alive 00:12:58.190 --> 00:13:01.570 because it's him. And he's the one that gives 00:13:01.570 --> 00:13:05.490 the... understanding to it. We read the scriptures 00:13:05.490 --> 00:13:09.090 and we take the truths that have been revealed 00:13:09.090 --> 00:13:12.470 to us just like it was as the disciples. They 00:13:12.470 --> 00:13:15.929 received what it was and the Holy Spirit then 00:13:15.929 --> 00:13:19.169 breathed and gave us the understanding and now 00:13:19.169 --> 00:13:21.610 we get that word of God in the New Testament 00:13:21.610 --> 00:13:24.429 but he's still speaking to us. No we don't get 00:13:24.429 --> 00:13:28.509 extra scripture. That season of the giving of 00:13:28.509 --> 00:13:31.730 the scripture is closed. We get now the revelation. 00:13:32.080 --> 00:13:35.779 of the depth of what has already been given to 00:13:35.779 --> 00:13:40.940 us. And that's the beauty of it. And as we dive 00:13:40.940 --> 00:13:44.980 into our understanding of why God would move 00:13:44.980 --> 00:13:48.039 us from the revelation of Passover, which we've 00:13:48.039 --> 00:13:50.679 connected to the cross, and move us to Pentecost, 00:13:50.820 --> 00:13:54.059 which is what? The fullness of the Spirit, the 00:13:54.059 --> 00:13:58.259 pouring out of the Holy Spirit on his church. 00:14:00.240 --> 00:14:02.940 In understanding that, we get a biblical framework 00:14:02.940 --> 00:14:06.080 that must have load -bearing building blocks 00:14:06.080 --> 00:14:10.200 about understanding the Holy Spirit and about 00:14:10.200 --> 00:14:13.820 the Father's intent on giving us the Holy Spirit 00:14:13.820 --> 00:14:17.580 so that we can grow in discipleship and partnership. 00:14:18.500 --> 00:14:22.320 So when we get to the book of Acts, and then 00:14:22.320 --> 00:14:26.059 we get to chapter 2 of the book of Acts, and 00:14:26.059 --> 00:14:30.269 we fully arrive at the day of Pentecost, have 00:14:30.269 --> 00:14:35.330 a platform and a place of expectation like the 00:14:35.330 --> 00:14:39.330 disciples did having a great sense of wonder 00:14:39.330 --> 00:14:45.289 and awe around us of going what is this beautiful 00:14:45.289 --> 00:14:48.990 thing that Jesus promised to pour out and to 00:14:48.990 --> 00:14:53.529 give us instead of having a mindset that would 00:14:53.529 --> 00:14:58.799 be intrepid or somehow hesitant There would already 00:14:58.799 --> 00:15:02.620 be just inside of us this desire. We are going 00:15:02.620 --> 00:15:07.980 to anticipate the Father's love and what Jesus 00:15:07.980 --> 00:15:11.379 promised us. If he promised us something good 00:15:11.379 --> 00:15:14.639 and that he was involved in giving it, I'm waiting 00:15:14.639 --> 00:15:18.580 with expectation of all that he's going to give 00:15:18.580 --> 00:15:22.159 us and begin to have a sense of eagerness and 00:15:22.159 --> 00:15:25.539 understanding that it's not just something that's 00:15:25.539 --> 00:15:28.259 going to be little. It'll always be something 00:15:28.259 --> 00:15:34.879 that will expand inside of me. You see, Jesus 00:15:34.879 --> 00:15:39.720 is the master. He's the master of making little 00:15:39.720 --> 00:15:48.759 provision feed you a lot. Come on. I mean, I'd 00:15:48.759 --> 00:15:50.980 like this to work a little more in my wallet. 00:15:51.039 --> 00:15:54.440 Go to Subway and only get the $4 .99 special 00:15:54.440 --> 00:15:57.179 and then have sandwiches for a week. That would 00:15:57.179 --> 00:16:01.059 be all right, wouldn't it? But that's exactly 00:16:01.059 --> 00:16:06.019 what Jesus does. He's the master. Of bringing 00:16:06.019 --> 00:16:09.460 you an understanding of something that comes 00:16:09.460 --> 00:16:12.259 from heaven. Something that he's going to give 00:16:12.259 --> 00:16:15.899 you that's good. That's full of life. And a causing 00:16:15.899 --> 00:16:19.159 it that you came with something. But he always 00:16:19.159 --> 00:16:22.360 leaves you with more than what you came with. 00:16:22.500 --> 00:16:25.519 And he gives you more that will move you even 00:16:25.519 --> 00:16:28.769 into your tomorrows. and give you something to 00:16:28.769 --> 00:16:32.929 say, if I receive that then, how much more is 00:16:32.929 --> 00:16:36.690 it in the fellowship with him that the Holy Spirit 00:16:36.690 --> 00:16:40.429 will continue to expand me and grow me? And the 00:16:40.429 --> 00:16:43.610 only thing that would stop us from that is a 00:16:43.610 --> 00:16:48.409 spirit of fear, a spirit of tradition or religion 00:16:48.409 --> 00:16:52.029 that would cause us to question the goodness 00:16:52.029 --> 00:16:55.789 of God and the goodness of Jesus in giving that 00:16:55.789 --> 00:16:59.940 gift. And so when the day of Pentecost fully 00:16:59.940 --> 00:17:03.399 arrived, we need to be able, like they did, to 00:17:03.399 --> 00:17:07.019 have a better understanding of why the Holy Spirit 00:17:07.019 --> 00:17:10.440 was highlighted in such a way that he was, that 00:17:10.440 --> 00:17:14.839 Jesus was constantly, the gospels were filled 00:17:14.839 --> 00:17:20.079 with Jesus' reference to the Holy Spirit. Because 00:17:20.079 --> 00:17:24.460 the Holy Spirit, he knew, would be on the earth 00:17:24.460 --> 00:17:29.220 carrying out the building of the church and the 00:17:29.220 --> 00:17:33.299 partnership of each person who is the church 00:17:33.299 --> 00:17:39.339 with them until his return. You see, this is 00:17:39.339 --> 00:17:42.539 the genius of Jesus. And we talked about that. 00:17:43.519 --> 00:17:47.779 Last time we kind of stood on this platform and 00:17:47.779 --> 00:17:49.759 I was talking about the journey from Passover 00:17:49.759 --> 00:17:53.990 to Pentecost. I reference the fact that Jesus 00:17:53.990 --> 00:17:56.750 brought this understanding. He had to shift. 00:17:57.289 --> 00:17:59.650 The disciples' understanding and the perspective 00:17:59.650 --> 00:18:03.410 of the Father. And he started in Matthew 6, 5 00:18:03.410 --> 00:18:06.589 -13. Before he ever taught them how to pray the 00:18:06.589 --> 00:18:09.470 Lord's Prayer, he began to tell them what not 00:18:09.470 --> 00:18:12.029 to do. And he told them two things that they 00:18:12.029 --> 00:18:15.390 had to break out of their mindsets. He told them 00:18:15.390 --> 00:18:18.589 not to be like the hypocrites. So he referenced 00:18:18.589 --> 00:18:21.509 religion. And he told them not to be like the 00:18:21.509 --> 00:18:27.019 heathen. Isn't that the great... The great twicks 00:18:27.019 --> 00:18:29.859 that we're in today for the church, don't be 00:18:29.859 --> 00:18:34.000 religious and bound to tradition for tradition's 00:18:34.000 --> 00:18:38.000 sake and just carry on with what was 100 -year 00:18:38.000 --> 00:18:42.400 -old bread. And don't be like the heathen, meaning 00:18:42.400 --> 00:18:44.660 what? Well, we know that we're supposed to have 00:18:44.660 --> 00:18:47.210 the... put off the outer man and put on the new 00:18:47.210 --> 00:18:49.750 man in regard to the new nature of Christ. But 00:18:49.750 --> 00:18:51.549 that wasn't what he was dealing with. He said, 00:18:51.569 --> 00:18:53.589 when you'd be like the hypocrites, he would, 00:18:53.630 --> 00:18:56.549 or the heathen, he was referencing in prayer 00:18:56.549 --> 00:19:00.009 and in worship. Meaning what? Don't get your 00:19:00.009 --> 00:19:04.029 cultural spiritual values from something that's 00:19:04.029 --> 00:19:09.710 not connected to holy and truth. So two things 00:19:09.710 --> 00:19:13.079 that you have to do. You have to make sure that 00:19:13.079 --> 00:19:16.180 you're not drinking just out of something that's 00:19:16.180 --> 00:19:19.099 stagnant for the sake of stagnant sake because 00:19:19.099 --> 00:19:22.480 grandma knew it, great grandpa knew it, great 00:19:22.480 --> 00:19:26.599 great grandpa knew it. Listen, if it was based 00:19:26.599 --> 00:19:31.859 on truth, it's truth. But remember, even in the 00:19:31.859 --> 00:19:34.220 Old Testament, they got fresh bread every seven 00:19:34.220 --> 00:19:40.259 days. So somebody needs to change the bread. 00:19:43.880 --> 00:19:45.779 Somebody's got to put in their heart of saying, 00:19:45.920 --> 00:19:51.039 I am, I recognize that even in my, if I'm not 00:19:51.039 --> 00:19:53.920 getting daily bread, which you should be, because 00:19:53.920 --> 00:19:57.460 that's the lesson that Jesus said, pray, give 00:19:57.460 --> 00:20:01.799 us our daily bread. Even if you, even if you're 00:20:01.799 --> 00:20:04.119 just a little bit intimidated to get daily bread, 00:20:04.220 --> 00:20:07.220 remind yourself the bread should get changed 00:20:07.220 --> 00:20:11.750 every seven days. Meaning that there should be 00:20:11.750 --> 00:20:14.990 something that God is speaking to you from his 00:20:14.990 --> 00:20:17.769 word and from your relationship with him that 00:20:17.769 --> 00:20:21.250 should stick with you and feed you during the 00:20:21.250 --> 00:20:26.650 week. Come on. And so Jesus was trying to get 00:20:26.650 --> 00:20:29.829 the disciples to break off of what? just out 00:20:29.829 --> 00:20:34.230 of tradition's sake, and not allow what the heathen 00:20:34.230 --> 00:20:36.150 would do. What would they do? They just did it 00:20:36.150 --> 00:20:40.130 by the volume of it and the consistency of it 00:20:40.130 --> 00:20:43.009 and by the many prayers and phrases that their 00:20:43.009 --> 00:20:46.049 gods would hear them. No, I'm going to change 00:20:46.049 --> 00:20:51.690 the way you approach me. That's why Jesus came. 00:20:52.579 --> 00:20:56.660 changed the way we approach the father. The whole 00:20:56.660 --> 00:21:01.079 point of the Lord's prayer was really, we should 00:21:01.079 --> 00:21:03.460 probably even just change the heading in our 00:21:03.460 --> 00:21:07.720 Bible, was it's the prayer of intimacy with the 00:21:07.720 --> 00:21:13.339 father. God was changing the disciples to move 00:21:13.339 --> 00:21:18.730 them out of a tradition of how they Stayed distant 00:21:18.730 --> 00:21:21.930 from God. And he was moving the heathens perspective. 00:21:22.089 --> 00:21:26.829 On how they aroused God. In their answer of prayer. 00:21:27.009 --> 00:21:31.130 And moving them into a place. Of communion. And 00:21:31.130 --> 00:21:36.690 of relationship. With a good father. And that's 00:21:36.690 --> 00:21:39.470 why he goes through this. We're not modeling 00:21:39.470 --> 00:21:44.250 hypocrites. Or deadness. We're not modeling. 00:21:44.970 --> 00:21:47.269 The heathen's approach of how to pray and live 00:21:47.269 --> 00:21:50.230 toward God that comes from idolatry and ignorance. 00:21:51.269 --> 00:21:53.829 And that's why when Jesus says, therefore pray, 00:21:53.990 --> 00:21:58.650 our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 00:21:59.670 --> 00:22:04.230 Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth. 00:22:05.170 --> 00:22:11.250 And then it moves to his name, his kingdom, his 00:22:11.250 --> 00:22:18.339 will, and then. Lord, grant, give. Grant us, 00:22:18.440 --> 00:22:24.160 give us our daily bread. Notice the first thing 00:22:24.160 --> 00:22:26.980 that Jesus wants to focus on is that the Father 00:22:26.980 --> 00:22:32.380 is a giver. Give us our daily bread. Forgive 00:22:32.380 --> 00:22:40.230 us of our debts. He's a giver and a lover. You 00:22:40.230 --> 00:22:44.210 can't forgive somebody something unless you actually 00:22:44.210 --> 00:22:49.930 love them. You understand, you can write off 00:22:49.930 --> 00:22:54.069 a debt, but you'll still hold a grudge in your 00:22:54.069 --> 00:22:57.690 heart that they owed you that. To truly forgive 00:22:57.690 --> 00:23:02.109 means what? You actually have to love them more 00:23:02.109 --> 00:23:04.990 than the debt that they have. And in the forgiving 00:23:04.990 --> 00:23:11.000 of it, you say, I choose them. So what was he 00:23:11.000 --> 00:23:14.359 doing? He was bringing the disciples into an 00:23:14.359 --> 00:23:17.019 encounter which they wouldn't have had growing 00:23:17.019 --> 00:23:21.539 up. They had been trained in the law. They had 00:23:21.539 --> 00:23:24.480 been trained under the Torah. They went to synagogue. 00:23:24.559 --> 00:23:29.680 They were good Jewish boys.
