Our Passover 00:03:48.780 --> 00:03:53.599 lamb has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate 00:03:53.599 --> 00:03:59.900 the festival not with old leaven, the leaven 00:03:59.900 --> 00:04:04.379 of malice and evil, but with unleavened bread 00:04:04.379 --> 00:04:09.460 of sincerity and truth. So we're to celebrate 00:04:09.460 --> 00:04:12.479 with unleavened bread of sincerity of truth. 00:04:12.580 --> 00:04:16.339 Now, we're going to dive into this because Paul 00:04:16.339 --> 00:04:19.439 was talking to the Corinthian church, a Gentile 00:04:19.439 --> 00:04:22.399 church that really did not have a full understanding 00:04:22.399 --> 00:04:26.459 of what God was doing as he set up Passover. 00:04:28.629 --> 00:04:32.490 allowed the blood to go on the doorposts of their 00:04:32.490 --> 00:04:35.990 shelter, of their home, of the lentil in the 00:04:35.990 --> 00:04:39.670 doorposts, but he inaugurated the Feast of Unleavened 00:04:39.670 --> 00:04:43.230 Bread, which was their participation with helping 00:04:43.230 --> 00:04:47.310 remove the leaven and eating that bread that 00:04:47.310 --> 00:04:50.569 had no yeast in it, representing sin, for seven 00:04:50.569 --> 00:04:55.089 days. It was an important... truth that they 00:04:55.089 --> 00:04:58.649 had to naturally walk out that speaks to a spiritual 00:04:58.649 --> 00:05:01.629 issue. And Paul is trying to, through the Holy 00:05:01.629 --> 00:05:05.610 Spirit, get this into the New Testament church 00:05:05.610 --> 00:05:08.889 in Corinth. And he says this specifically in 00:05:08.889 --> 00:05:12.750 1 Corinthians 5, 7. He says, for Christ, our 00:05:12.750 --> 00:05:18.709 Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. He declares 00:05:18.709 --> 00:05:20.790 it once and for all. There is no more Passover. 00:05:21.639 --> 00:05:25.300 It's done. Christ, the Passover lamb, he was 00:05:25.300 --> 00:05:29.220 the fulfillment. Somebody say fulfilled. He was, 00:05:29.259 --> 00:05:34.500 it was fulfilled in Christ. But the truths that 00:05:34.500 --> 00:05:38.680 Passover carried in the core of that truth is 00:05:38.680 --> 00:05:42.259 still supposed to be operating spiritually inside 00:05:42.259 --> 00:05:45.120 the house of God today in the New Testament. 00:05:45.500 --> 00:05:50.579 First John four verses. Nine and 10 says it this 00:05:50.579 --> 00:05:55.620 way. By this, the love of God is revealed in 00:05:55.620 --> 00:06:01.339 us that God has sent his one and only son into 00:06:01.339 --> 00:06:08.160 the world so that we may live through him. Your 00:06:08.160 --> 00:06:12.060 mission, our mission, anyone that's come to know 00:06:12.060 --> 00:06:15.439 Jesus is this, that we may live through him. 00:06:16.860 --> 00:06:20.259 Your mission, this morning. It's not just about 00:06:20.259 --> 00:06:23.759 the altar call and only, I'm not messing with 00:06:23.759 --> 00:06:25.800 y 'all, but maybe a little, only a third of you 00:06:25.800 --> 00:06:30.060 responded. The rest of the two thirds is your 00:06:30.060 --> 00:06:36.980 commission to live in him. And he has sent his son to be the atoning 00:06:46.449 --> 00:06:50.610 sacrifice for our sin. God sent, Christ has been sacrificed. 00:06:57.790 --> 00:07:01.589 That sacrifice and that atoning, the price has 00:07:01.589 --> 00:07:05.170 been paid so that what? You now can do something. 00:07:05.430 --> 00:07:10.240 There's no longer a waiting period. You're not 00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:13.379 waiting to show God that you're approved. You're 00:07:13.379 --> 00:07:16.740 not waiting to feel like you've earned enough 00:07:16.740 --> 00:07:20.279 chips or enough righteousness. All of that has 00:07:20.279 --> 00:07:24.560 been satisfied with the atoning sacrifice of 00:07:24.560 --> 00:07:27.600 Jesus. You can't add anything to your salvation 00:07:27.600 --> 00:07:31.740 and it has been activated and is now supposed 00:07:31.740 --> 00:07:35.540 to be operating inside of us. And that's why 00:07:35.540 --> 00:07:37.720 this is so important that we get this because 00:07:37.720 --> 00:07:41.920 if we're waiting for something more, we stay 00:07:41.920 --> 00:07:48.379 what? In neutral. We keep giving ourselves preset 00:07:48.379 --> 00:07:52.060 timings where we'll then, well, when this comes, 00:07:52.180 --> 00:07:54.839 I'll do it then. No, no, no. Now, in saying that, 00:08:02.120 --> 00:08:06.500 I want to take us to one of the, the most, well, 00:08:06.639 --> 00:08:08.680 there's so many puzzling things in the Bible, 00:08:08.740 --> 00:08:13.740 but one of the most interesting passages in the 00:08:13.740 --> 00:08:17.339 scriptures is found in 1 Corinthians chapter 00:08:17.339 --> 00:08:20.720 11. And no, I'm not talking about women and head 00:08:20.720 --> 00:08:26.399 covering. Let's move on. 1 Corinthians 11 verses 00:08:26.399 --> 00:08:33.440 27 through 32. In the same passage, As God is 00:08:33.440 --> 00:08:35.679 dealing with covering and he's dealing with alignment, 00:08:36.159 --> 00:08:40.860 he's now also dealing with how to approach this 00:08:40.860 --> 00:08:44.419 meal. And this is radically important because 00:08:44.419 --> 00:08:48.200 if you understand that in 1 Corinthians 5, he's 00:08:48.200 --> 00:08:51.000 dealing with the unliving bread and he's dealing 00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:55.320 with a mindset of saying, listen, there is a 00:08:55.320 --> 00:09:00.000 righteousness. That has to be participated with. 00:09:00.039 --> 00:09:03.159 You can't add to Christ's righteousness. But 00:09:03.159 --> 00:09:06.500 you can't live. As though you had no responsibility. 00:09:08.179 --> 00:09:10.720 Let me say that again. That's the whole part 00:09:10.720 --> 00:09:15.549 of 1 Corinthians 5. Is you can't. Take advantage 00:09:15.549 --> 00:09:20.309 of grace. Continue to do and live as though you 00:09:20.309 --> 00:09:23.649 are not holding the hand of Jesus. Jesus expects 00:09:23.649 --> 00:09:28.509 you to do what? Live like unleavened bread as 00:09:28.509 --> 00:09:34.629 you really are. And then he moves us from five. 00:09:35.529 --> 00:09:37.990 the way through a bunch of stuff. I mean, six 00:09:37.990 --> 00:09:41.370 is don't sue one another. Don't you have people 00:09:41.370 --> 00:09:43.970 that can actually make competent decisions and 00:09:43.970 --> 00:09:47.090 judge some cases? Seven was dealing with marriage 00:09:47.090 --> 00:09:51.230 and that whole process. Eight is dealing with 00:09:51.230 --> 00:09:56.190 how the gospel is preached and how Paul brings 00:09:56.190 --> 00:09:59.710 the He begins to move forward and he starts going 00:09:59.710 --> 00:10:03.149 to 9 and 10. 10 deals with the journey of the 00:10:03.149 --> 00:10:08.909 Israelites and how they kept missing the picture 00:10:08.909 --> 00:10:12.830 of what God was doing 10 different times through 00:10:12.830 --> 00:10:15.129 the journey of the wilderness because they would 00:10:15.129 --> 00:10:18.429 not mingle their hearts with faith. They stayed 00:10:18.429 --> 00:10:21.149 in unbelief. And as they get toward the end of 00:10:21.149 --> 00:10:24.429 10, he starts dealing with the altar. And he 00:10:24.429 --> 00:10:26.909 starts dealing with sacrifice. And he starts 00:10:26.909 --> 00:10:29.950 letting you know that what you eat at the altar 00:10:29.950 --> 00:10:32.330 of where you're worshiping, you're joined with. 00:10:33.370 --> 00:10:37.809 Let me say that again. What you eat at the altar. 00:10:38.350 --> 00:10:41.190 Now listen, it's not like where he's talking 00:10:41.190 --> 00:10:46.190 about going to a buffet. He's talking about the 00:10:46.190 --> 00:10:52.490 ideology that you ingest. Now in their case, 00:10:52.509 --> 00:10:54.629 they would go to certain temples and they would 00:10:54.629 --> 00:10:58.090 take of what was presented. But for you and I, 00:10:58.210 --> 00:11:02.269 the Bible also talks about that we are to eat 00:11:02.269 --> 00:11:05.250 and drink the word of the Lord. Well, how do 00:11:05.250 --> 00:11:08.929 you eat and drink? You ingest the truth and the 00:11:08.929 --> 00:11:12.110 ideology that is written in the scriptures. And 00:11:12.110 --> 00:11:15.029 he's saying, whatever you actually take into 00:11:15.029 --> 00:11:18.379 yourself through thinking and processing and 00:11:18.379 --> 00:11:21.259 holding, you are eating and you are drinking. 00:11:21.440 --> 00:11:24.620 And you cannot eat, he says, you cannot eat of 00:11:24.620 --> 00:11:29.000 the table of demons because whatever's done to 00:11:29.000 --> 00:11:31.980 an idol or to an ideology, that's where idol, 00:11:32.120 --> 00:11:37.039 ideology, hello. Whatever is eaten at that altar, 00:11:37.120 --> 00:11:40.500 you can't now eat of Christ and his ideology. 00:11:42.000 --> 00:11:44.519 Because you do what? You provoke the Lord to 00:11:44.519 --> 00:11:49.480 jealousy. If you're really his, there is a conflict 00:11:49.480 --> 00:11:51.700 that should be taking place. It's not that you 00:11:51.700 --> 00:11:54.840 couldn't eat. When Paul expresses this, and I'm 00:11:54.840 --> 00:11:57.519 not going to go into a spiritual warfare here 00:11:57.519 --> 00:12:00.620 topic, but when he's saying this, he was not 00:12:00.620 --> 00:12:03.179 saying that you cannot as it was impossible. 00:12:03.620 --> 00:12:08.259 It means that you should not. And the Holy Spirit 00:12:08.259 --> 00:12:11.340 is telling you, you have to make a distinction 00:12:11.340 --> 00:12:15.299 between what you're eating on which altar, because 00:12:15.299 --> 00:12:19.940 you are a participant of whatever you eat. So 00:12:19.940 --> 00:12:24.559 he draws the analogy in chapter 10 as he's getting 00:12:24.559 --> 00:12:27.860 ready to come to this table about your eating 00:12:27.860 --> 00:12:33.039 now, what this represents. You're eating bread. 00:12:33.980 --> 00:12:37.000 That represents the life of God. The one who 00:12:37.000 --> 00:12:39.840 was the word. The one who was clean. The one 00:12:39.840 --> 00:12:43.379 whose body was broken for you. The one who paid 00:12:43.379 --> 00:12:47.559 the price. So that you could be. Back to 1 Corinthians 00:12:47.559 --> 00:12:50.299 5. Because he's building the legal argument. 00:12:50.440 --> 00:12:53.259 You see when you read Paul's letters. You have 00:12:53.259 --> 00:12:58.840 to think. Great attorney. And what do attorneys 00:12:58.840 --> 00:13:03.350 do? They build their case. And if you just read 00:13:03.350 --> 00:13:06.870 the Bible as just a pluck and pick and just take 00:13:06.870 --> 00:13:09.450 and pass it, you're missing the whole oral argument 00:13:09.450 --> 00:13:13.610 of the case of what Paul was declaring through 00:13:13.610 --> 00:13:16.090 the Holy Spirit. And what Paul was saying is, 00:13:16.169 --> 00:13:18.909 you now are, and we're going to read it here, 00:13:19.029 --> 00:13:24.110 you now are to eat of the un... leavened bread 00:13:24.110 --> 00:13:28.769 of sincerity and truth, which means now you have 00:13:28.769 --> 00:13:32.570 a responsibility to be sincere. How do you know 00:13:32.570 --> 00:13:43.389 when someone is sincere? Their devotion doesn't 00:13:43.389 --> 00:13:49.700 wane. If I offer you, just think of it in this 00:13:49.700 --> 00:13:53.120 way. Adam, if I offer you a sincere apology, 00:13:53.580 --> 00:13:56.980 I'm doing what? I'm bringing myself to a place 00:13:56.980 --> 00:13:59.799 to acknowledge that where I wavered and where 00:13:59.799 --> 00:14:04.580 I erred, I come back to a place of devotion and 00:14:04.580 --> 00:14:08.220 make that right with you. It's sincerity. Why? 00:14:08.379 --> 00:14:11.659 Because something in me is pushing me to get 00:14:11.659 --> 00:14:14.639 aligned and to get right so that you and I are 00:14:14.639 --> 00:14:19.370 right. And truth being what? Taking all that 00:14:19.370 --> 00:14:23.409 was said about who Christ is and in that process, 00:14:23.450 --> 00:14:28.269 we're to live as bread, the unleavened bread 00:14:28.269 --> 00:14:30.909 of sincerity of truth. Meaning what? Our responsibility 00:14:30.909 --> 00:14:35.169 is to know what is written and to engage with 00:14:35.169 --> 00:14:38.429 what is written about Jesus and to have sincerity 00:14:38.429 --> 00:14:44.990 in all that's been of him revealed. Well, that's 00:14:44.990 --> 00:14:50.019 a, That's a big deal. Does it mean that we have 00:14:50.019 --> 00:14:53.580 to be, that we're perfect? No, Christ makes us 00:14:53.580 --> 00:14:57.399 perfect, but he puts inside of us a desire to 00:14:57.399 --> 00:15:04.519 live in sincerity and truth. Let's look at this. 00:15:05.000 --> 00:15:08.960 Now he goes to 1 Corinthians 11 and he deals 00:15:08.960 --> 00:15:12.460 with alignment. He deals with headship and then 00:15:12.460 --> 00:15:18.559 he begins to deal with Just things that happen 00:15:18.559 --> 00:15:22.940 in groups of people among Christians. He deals 00:15:22.940 --> 00:15:29.500 with what? Mindsets that divide rather than include. 00:15:30.860 --> 00:15:33.159 And if you look at it holistically, they were 00:15:33.159 --> 00:15:35.059 what? They were eating and drinking and they 00:15:35.059 --> 00:15:37.519 were showing preference. There were some people 00:15:37.519 --> 00:15:40.299 that were... not even getting a meal. There were 00:15:40.299 --> 00:15:42.379 other people that were feasting. There were some 00:15:42.379 --> 00:15:44.720 people that were actually drinking wine, even 00:15:44.720 --> 00:15:47.759 to a form of drunkenness and other people not 00:15:47.759 --> 00:15:50.220 even invited. Fact is, then they went on and 00:15:50.220 --> 00:15:52.379 said, and you showed preference to the guy that 00:15:52.379 --> 00:15:55.500 had the gold ring and to the guy that had none. 00:15:55.580 --> 00:15:58.399 You left alone. Why? Because they couldn't help 00:15:58.399 --> 00:16:02.899 you. You wanted influence. And Paul was, can 00:16:02.899 --> 00:16:06.549 I just say this as, as he was the the one that 00:16:06.549 --> 00:16:09.750 the Lord used to found that church, he was incensed 00:16:09.750 --> 00:16:13.350 about it. But then he brought them back again, 00:16:13.409 --> 00:16:16.970 reminding them of the truth of this meal. The 00:16:16.970 --> 00:16:19.049 reason they had to get rid of a person in the 00:16:19.049 --> 00:16:22.269 first place was because they missed the understanding 00:16:22.269 --> 00:16:26.009 of being unleavened bread. He had to bring them 00:16:26.009 --> 00:16:29.629 again, 1 Corinthians 11, to the table of the 00:16:29.629 --> 00:16:31.350 Lord. And this is where we pick it up in verse 00:16:31.350 --> 00:16:38.320 27. therefore eats the bread and drinks the cup 00:16:38.320 --> 00:16:43.080 of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty 00:16:43.080 --> 00:16:47.419 of profaning the body and the blood of the Lord. 00:16:48.259 --> 00:16:54.240 Now, this weekend, I already received our next 00:16:54.240 --> 00:16:56.639 communion message and it's that verse right there. 00:16:56.700 --> 00:17:02.509 So I'm gonna do some of the other verses. Let 00:17:02.509 --> 00:17:08.569 a person, verse 28, examine himself then and 00:17:08.569 --> 00:17:12.710 so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For 00:17:12.710 --> 00:17:17.190 anyone who eats and drinks without discerning 00:17:17.190 --> 00:17:22.529 the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 00:17:22.670 --> 00:17:26.089 Notice what it says. Anyone who eats and drinks 00:17:26.089 --> 00:17:32.710 without discerning the body. Do you notice it 00:17:32.710 --> 00:17:36.990 doesn't say who eats and drinks discerning the 00:17:36.990 --> 00:17:42.750 blood. Notice what he focuses on. The body. What's 00:17:42.750 --> 00:17:50.630 the body? The bread. Right? Notice how he is 00:17:50.630 --> 00:17:54.029 bringing it all back down here to discernment 00:17:54.029 --> 00:18:01.910 on bread. Why? Because Jesus' body His broken 00:18:01.910 --> 00:18:06.369 body is the bread, which we now become the body 00:18:06.369 --> 00:18:11.509 of Christ. So notice discernment now doesn't 00:18:11.509 --> 00:18:15.769 come with his blood. Why? Because there is no 00:18:15.769 --> 00:18:18.150 need for discernment in Christ's blood. Why? 00:18:18.269 --> 00:18:23.289 It's holy. It's the blood of God. And every time 00:18:23.289 --> 00:18:25.369 you take of the blood of God, you are actually 00:18:25.369 --> 00:18:28.390 reminding yourself of what? His covenant with 00:18:28.390 --> 00:18:33.160 you, not anybody else's covenant. When you take 00:18:33.160 --> 00:18:36.319 of the body, you're now reminded of multiple 00:18:36.319 --> 00:18:39.660 things. You're now reminded that not only is 00:18:39.660 --> 00:18:43.500 it his word that's bread, man shall live not 00:18:43.500 --> 00:18:45.819 by bread alone, but every word that proceeds 00:18:45.819 --> 00:18:48.380 from the mouth of God. It brings you back what? 00:18:48.440 --> 00:18:51.380 To 1 Corinthians 5, that you shall what? Live 00:18:51.380 --> 00:18:56.619 in pursuit of sincerity and truth. Knowing the 00:18:56.619 --> 00:18:59.940 word of God and living by the word of God is 00:18:59.940 --> 00:19:03.799 actually what creates a sincere pursuit of the 00:19:03.799 --> 00:19:08.980 truth. Next thing is, where do our issues come 00:19:08.980 --> 00:19:12.380 from? Our issues never come from, you rarely 00:19:12.380 --> 00:19:16.380 find anybody that gets offended at Jesus' blood. 00:19:18.500 --> 00:19:21.119 Why'd you leave the church? I just, the blood 00:19:21.119 --> 00:19:25.369 of Jesus was just too loud. It was too powerful. 00:19:26.170 --> 00:19:29.849 It was too cleansing. I mean, who likes to live 00:19:29.849 --> 00:19:36.049 that clean? Nobody gets offended at Jesus' blood. 00:19:36.930 --> 00:19:45.430 Where does offense take place? In the body. Anyone 00:19:45.430 --> 00:19:48.170 who eats and drinks without discerning.
