He says, I want 00:02:46.050 --> 00:02:49.770 you as you're teaching on Pentecost to go back 00:02:49.770 --> 00:02:53.919 and bring an understanding of Passover. Now, 00:02:53.939 --> 00:02:57.419 we know we often hear, and I'm going to probably 00:02:57.419 --> 00:03:00.360 move into a little more apostolic teaching this 00:03:00.360 --> 00:03:04.919 morning, but for many of us, Passover, we have 00:03:04.919 --> 00:03:07.240 an understanding. And I'm not going to ask questions 00:03:07.240 --> 00:03:10.080 this morning of who understands Passover, but 00:03:10.080 --> 00:03:13.939 there are probably this one feast represents, 00:03:14.139 --> 00:03:16.340 and Trent talked about it last week, Pastor Trent 00:03:16.340 --> 00:03:19.479 did, in regard to Passover represents the cross. 00:03:21.800 --> 00:03:25.300 If we don't have a, if I could say it this way, 00:03:25.360 --> 00:03:30.360 if we don't have a wide enough base, understanding 00:03:30.360 --> 00:03:34.300 wise, theologically wise, you're going to miss 00:03:34.300 --> 00:03:37.159 things in the New Testament that the Holy Spirit 00:03:37.159 --> 00:03:40.159 actually wrote through the apostle Paul, wrote 00:03:40.159 --> 00:03:42.240 through the apostle Peter, wrote through the 00:03:42.240 --> 00:03:45.680 apostle John, that they would have come to the 00:03:45.680 --> 00:03:49.080 scriptures with an understanding. Of what those 00:03:49.080 --> 00:03:52.580 things really meant. Why? Because they lived 00:03:52.580 --> 00:03:55.460 out Passover. They lived out Pentecost. And they 00:03:55.460 --> 00:04:00.039 lived out tabernacles. As a Jewish people. And 00:04:00.039 --> 00:04:04.319 they understood at least. What those things meant 00:04:04.319 --> 00:04:09.020 to them. And it was only after the cross. And 00:04:09.020 --> 00:04:12.180 after the resurrection of Jesus. that the Holy 00:04:12.180 --> 00:04:15.139 Spirit would now take what they were so familiar 00:04:15.139 --> 00:04:19.579 with and begin to expand it and bring light to 00:04:19.579 --> 00:04:24.220 it in ways that they only had not thought of. 00:04:24.620 --> 00:04:28.519 Because to them, it was already established. 00:04:28.860 --> 00:04:33.339 But when Jesus died and rose again, all that 00:04:33.339 --> 00:04:37.839 they had known in a physical, literal, weak... 00:04:38.160 --> 00:04:41.740 three weeks a year of celebrating it in natural 00:04:41.740 --> 00:04:46.139 form would come to an understanding that Jesus 00:04:46.139 --> 00:04:50.660 had fulfilled every aspect of the feast and they 00:04:50.660 --> 00:04:54.519 were coming into that. And so as we go back to 00:04:54.519 --> 00:04:58.060 Passover this morning, I want us to start with 00:04:58.060 --> 00:05:00.939 a New Testament scripture. You got your finger, 00:05:01.019 --> 00:05:04.420 if you will, put it in Exodus 12, and I want 00:05:04.420 --> 00:05:06.639 you to flip to the New Testament now, and I want 00:05:06.639 --> 00:05:10.180 you to look at 1 Corinthians. Keep your Bible 00:05:10.180 --> 00:05:15.000 marker in 12, but I want you to start this morning 00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:18.379 with our key verse, 1 Corinthians chapter 5. 00:05:18.519 --> 00:05:21.399 Now this is a, if you understand and have read 00:05:21.399 --> 00:05:25.240 any of 1 Corinthians, what I'm going to draw 00:05:25.240 --> 00:05:28.769 from this morning Is probably one of the most 00:05:28.769 --> 00:05:33.170 sensitive passages. In the body of Christ. It 00:05:33.170 --> 00:05:36.290 is the passage. Are you ready? Of excommunication. 00:05:38.389 --> 00:05:42.189 And you go. How in the world. Are we going to 00:05:42.189 --> 00:05:48.310 get from Passover. Through excommunication. And 00:05:48.310 --> 00:05:50.269 Scott. I didn't tell you this. But this morning. 00:05:50.389 --> 00:05:55.519 No just kidding. We're gonna, I'm just kidding. 00:05:55.600 --> 00:05:58.980 We're gonna deal with this thing because if you 00:05:58.980 --> 00:06:04.560 don't understand why the Holy Spirit would bring 00:06:04.560 --> 00:06:08.879 this aspect in, you've not actually built a base 00:06:08.879 --> 00:06:13.300 wide enough for what God is wanting to do. Turn to somebody and 00:06:31.259 --> 00:06:37.120 say, but that's not me. That's right. First Corinthians 00:06:37.120 --> 00:06:39.480 chapter five, verse seven and eight says this. 00:06:39.759 --> 00:06:46.120 For Christ, our Passover lamb has been sacrificed. 00:06:47.790 --> 00:06:50.850 Let us. Come on put your hand on your heart. 00:06:50.990 --> 00:06:56.350 Let us. Come on say it with me. Let us. Therefore 00:06:56.350 --> 00:07:01.970 celebrate the festival. That is the Holy Spirit. speaking 00:07:18.100 --> 00:07:21.879 through the Apostle Paul, letting us understand 00:07:21.879 --> 00:07:25.079 something today, and hopefully, Lord, you'll 00:07:25.079 --> 00:07:29.040 highlight this, that he was now bringing revelation 00:07:29.040 --> 00:07:32.220 to, and why this is important, he was bringing 00:07:32.220 --> 00:07:38.079 revelation to a Gentile church. How many know 00:07:38.079 --> 00:07:43.180 we are that? There's very few. I saw Brother 00:07:43.180 --> 00:07:46.500 Steve Diamond today. He would represent a Messianic 00:07:46.860 --> 00:07:50.139 fulfilled Jewish person who has accepted Jesus. 00:07:50.339 --> 00:07:53.180 If his daughter is here, she'd be one too. There's 00:07:53.180 --> 00:07:57.579 very few Messianic Jews with us this morning, 00:07:57.660 --> 00:08:02.339 but the reality is predominantly in the Western 00:08:02.339 --> 00:08:07.300 culture here, we have Gentile churches. And so 00:08:07.300 --> 00:08:12.959 our problem is because we don't understand maybe 00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:20.250 the Bible from a Jewish platform or even from 00:08:20.250 --> 00:08:22.569 the understanding. And that was Paul's writing 00:08:22.569 --> 00:08:27.069 constantly to various works, especially in Ephesians, 00:08:27.069 --> 00:08:30.610 in Galatians, now in first and second Corinthians, 00:08:30.730 --> 00:08:35.429 he was constantly bringing in things that would 00:08:35.429 --> 00:08:38.570 have had a Jewish mindset. Fact is in Ephesians 00:08:38.570 --> 00:08:41.710 two, the last verse that pastor Trent left us 00:08:41.710 --> 00:08:45.289 off on last weekend was what you who were far 00:08:45.289 --> 00:08:49.309 off And having been estranged from the covenants 00:08:49.309 --> 00:08:53.070 and estranged from the ordinances of Israel have 00:08:53.070 --> 00:08:56.870 now been brought near and the two now have been 00:08:56.870 --> 00:09:01.029 made one. For most of us, we're still in the 00:09:01.029 --> 00:09:05.250 far off, dude. We're in that, what does that 00:09:05.250 --> 00:09:10.070 even mean? Well, it means that because God chose 00:09:10.070 --> 00:09:14.950 them out and chose one man, Abraham, to build 00:09:14.950 --> 00:09:20.570 a a people through that race that he would make 00:09:20.570 --> 00:09:23.649 them a new nation. See, Abraham, he didn't start 00:09:23.649 --> 00:09:26.570 off Jewish. Let me just give you a newsflash. 00:09:27.769 --> 00:09:32.470 He was pretty much Iranian. Put that in your 00:09:32.470 --> 00:09:37.830 theological peace pipe for a moment. He was from 00:09:37.830 --> 00:09:42.990 Chaldea. He was a Syrian -Iranian background. 00:09:43.629 --> 00:09:46.549 God chose him because of faith. And because of 00:09:46.549 --> 00:09:50.570 faith, he actually then made him his own nation, 00:09:50.629 --> 00:09:52.970 own people. And there's a whole lot to that. 00:09:53.029 --> 00:09:58.230 But the whole point is, through Passover, God's 00:09:58.230 --> 00:10:00.690 going to bring some realities of what he was 00:10:00.690 --> 00:10:03.570 trying to show in the very beginning with his 00:10:03.570 --> 00:10:08.990 people that was actually a worldwide thing. So 00:10:08.990 --> 00:10:13.049 for Christ is our Passover lamb. Paul couldn't 00:10:13.049 --> 00:10:16.690 say it much clearer than this. Christ is. Come 00:10:16.690 --> 00:10:20.330 on, somebody say it with me. Christ is our Passover 00:10:20.330 --> 00:10:24.330 lamb. Just let that settle a little bit with 00:10:24.330 --> 00:10:28.370 all the stinking gobbledygook that you've heard 00:10:28.370 --> 00:10:31.169 on the internet. Trying to tell you that you 00:10:31.169 --> 00:10:34.590 need to actually live out a Jewish feast in order 00:10:34.590 --> 00:10:37.909 to understand it. That is absolute Greek word 00:10:37.909 --> 00:10:44.179 crapale. Because why? The apostle Paul, who was 00:10:44.179 --> 00:10:47.740 a Jew of Jew, who was the highest studied ranking 00:10:47.740 --> 00:10:52.440 person in all of Judaism, says what? Jesus Christ 00:10:52.440 --> 00:10:56.299 was the lamb at Passover that was sacrificed 00:10:56.299 --> 00:10:59.620 that they all did in shadow and type not knowing 00:10:59.620 --> 00:11:04.940 when he would come. Woo! But we're gonna keep 00:11:04.940 --> 00:11:12.070 the festival not naturally. but spiritually. 00:11:13.509 --> 00:11:16.529 And if we don't get this in our heart spiritually, 00:11:16.909 --> 00:11:20.509 we're missing the very thing that God wants us 00:11:20.509 --> 00:11:24.889 to actually have in his church. We see here that 00:11:24.889 --> 00:11:27.690 the Holy Spirit is communicating through the 00:11:27.690 --> 00:11:30.929 apostle Paul to the Gentile churches, multiple 00:11:30.929 --> 00:11:35.139 key truths. The Holy Spirit brings the apostle 00:11:35.139 --> 00:11:38.480 Paul to teach the Corinthian church about Jesus 00:11:38.480 --> 00:11:41.820 Christ and about the Passover lamb and the reality 00:11:41.820 --> 00:11:45.460 of the feast, here we go, of unleavened bread. 00:11:46.340 --> 00:11:49.940 These truths in God's word were written down 00:11:49.940 --> 00:11:53.720 by Moses, most scholars believe that, wrote the 00:11:53.720 --> 00:11:56.840 five books or collected and wrote the five books 00:11:56.840 --> 00:11:59.120 of the Bible and we would call that the Torah. 00:12:00.720 --> 00:12:04.019 The apostle Paul now is bringing the church through 00:12:04.019 --> 00:12:06.480 the Holy Spirit into an understanding of truth, 00:12:06.720 --> 00:12:11.639 power, and a source of victory used by God as 00:12:11.639 --> 00:12:17.340 he brings his people out of Egypt in the Exodus. 00:12:17.840 --> 00:12:22.440 The account of Israel coming out of slavery and 00:12:22.440 --> 00:12:25.340 out of the dominion of oppressive rule is not 00:12:25.340 --> 00:12:28.559 just something that happened back then. It is 00:12:28.559 --> 00:12:31.659 significant in meaning and importance to our 00:12:31.659 --> 00:12:36.139 gatherings, our faith, and our relationship with 00:12:36.139 --> 00:12:39.259 God. Everything that God does, please hear me 00:12:39.259 --> 00:12:44.679 say this, is never lost. Everything that he's 00:12:44.679 --> 00:12:47.700 done is never lost. Why? Because everything that 00:12:47.700 --> 00:12:53.240 God does is connected to him. And if it's connected 00:12:53.240 --> 00:12:58.509 to him, you want to be part of it. But you have 00:12:58.509 --> 00:13:02.350 to also understand how to actually receive it. 00:13:03.669 --> 00:13:07.409 Many people still get bound, that was the Galatian 00:13:07.409 --> 00:13:12.110 church's issue, still get bound by the law thinking 00:13:12.110 --> 00:13:16.269 they have to do more than operating in grace, 00:13:16.269 --> 00:13:19.710 truths, and obedience by the Spirit. They yoke 00:13:19.710 --> 00:13:26.529 themselves back to a form of slavery. Now, It's 00:13:26.529 --> 00:13:29.070 significant for us to know the meaning and the 00:13:29.070 --> 00:13:32.230 importance of what God did at Passover, what 00:13:32.230 --> 00:13:35.289 God did through the Exodus. Why? Because it's 00:13:35.289 --> 00:13:39.490 a direct line to you and I about experiencing 00:13:39.490 --> 00:13:44.289 freedom. Because if Christ is the Passover lamb, 00:13:44.509 --> 00:13:51.409 it is also Christ who is the deliverer. If Christ 00:13:51.409 --> 00:13:54.659 is Passover and Passover is connected, which 00:13:54.659 --> 00:13:59.340 we will see here in a moment, to communion. Passover 00:13:59.340 --> 00:14:02.720 represents cross. Cross was the whole reason 00:14:02.720 --> 00:14:05.899 for the communion of bringing the disciples to 00:14:05.899 --> 00:14:09.299 the table and now moving it from just a feast 00:14:09.299 --> 00:14:15.919 that was distant to now a feast with God. We 00:14:15.919 --> 00:14:19.820 move from talking about the lamb. Come on, let 00:14:19.820 --> 00:14:23.000 me say this this way. We move from talking about 00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:32.320 the lamb. To actually living with the lamb. Fellowshiping 00:14:32.320 --> 00:14:36.059 with the lamb. The one who is God is having the 00:14:36.059 --> 00:14:38.840 meal with the disciples in the upper room. It 00:14:38.840 --> 00:14:42.559 was celebrating Passover, but it shifted from 00:14:42.559 --> 00:14:45.940 Passover to communion. Why? Because the cross 00:14:45.940 --> 00:14:51.169 was right there. And they had taken... They had 00:14:51.169 --> 00:14:54.649 taken the lamb in and now he would be given. 00:14:54.710 --> 00:14:58.529 But once he was resurrected, it shifted everything. 00:14:59.870 --> 00:15:04.789 Why? Because now he would become the pinnacle 00:15:04.789 --> 00:15:09.330 of revelation of all things that were mysteries 00:15:09.330 --> 00:15:13.330 speaking about him. So the apostle Paul now brings 00:15:13.330 --> 00:15:17.600 this Corinthian church, into the revelation of 00:15:17.600 --> 00:15:20.279 the Passover. They didn't seem to get it. So 00:15:20.279 --> 00:15:23.840 he actually brings it in in chapter five before 00:15:23.840 --> 00:15:26.240 he's about ready to do something in the church. 00:15:26.480 --> 00:15:29.259 And why this is so significant is, number one, 00:15:29.259 --> 00:15:32.500 they never knew, had not known the truths of 00:15:32.500 --> 00:15:36.139 Passover. Two, they had not really allowed the 00:15:36.139 --> 00:15:39.559 weight of it to sink in. Or three, They had totally 00:15:39.559 --> 00:15:43.220 forgotten and disregarded why it was so important. 00:15:43.440 --> 00:15:46.919 But one thing is clear. The Holy Spirit was not 00:15:46.919 --> 00:15:50.639 going to allow the Corinthian church to miss 00:15:50.639 --> 00:15:54.559 the truths revealed in Passover and bring that 00:15:54.559 --> 00:15:57.100 spirit of understanding back into the church. 00:15:58.100 --> 00:16:03.960 No other New Testament church had the kind of 00:16:03.960 --> 00:16:08.830 instruction that the Apostle Paul gave the Corinthian 00:16:08.830 --> 00:16:12.070 church. And I don't know if you realize this, 00:16:12.169 --> 00:16:15.190 but there are multiple things in the book of 00:16:15.190 --> 00:16:18.110 Corinthians that actually reference communion. 00:16:19.110 --> 00:16:22.169 Ephesians doesn't deal with it. Galatians doesn't 00:16:22.169 --> 00:16:26.190 deal with it. Only Paul. through the Holy Spirit, 00:16:26.250 --> 00:16:29.169 dealing with the Corinthian church to deal with 00:16:29.169 --> 00:16:33.830 this issue of communion, the supper, and the 00:16:33.830 --> 00:16:37.789 relationship to their preparation around it. 00:16:39.009 --> 00:16:45.269 Why? Because the truths of Passover are founded, 00:16:45.350 --> 00:16:48.629 and this is gonna be found in this table right 00:16:48.629 --> 00:16:54.129 here, are founded in purity, in purpose, and 00:16:54.129 --> 00:16:58.470 in the power of the blood of a pure lamb. That's 00:16:58.470 --> 00:17:04.309 Christ. Remember what Paul said? Christ, our 00:17:04.309 --> 00:17:09.170 Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. So the purity, 00:17:09.430 --> 00:17:14.670 the purity for the people is found in that truth. 00:17:14.769 --> 00:17:19.980 The power or the purpose of living for God. In 00:17:19.980 --> 00:17:23.359 purity and in someone else's righteousness is 00:17:23.359 --> 00:17:27.099 found in Christ. The power of the blood that 00:17:27.099 --> 00:17:30.779 cancels what was against us and cancels the accusations 00:17:30.779 --> 00:17:35.200 are found in this truth because of the purity 00:17:35.200 --> 00:17:41.400 of who gave its life. And it also, as I look 00:17:41.400 --> 00:17:46.119 at the scriptures, it also recognizes that in 00:17:46.119 --> 00:17:50.309 Passover, it becomes our first representation 00:17:50.309 --> 00:17:56.730 of real partnership in the Old Testament. Now, 00:17:56.809 --> 00:18:00.170 not just from the selection of Abraham, because 00:18:00.170 --> 00:18:04.490 we know in Abraham's life in Genesis 14, he encounters 00:18:04.490 --> 00:18:07.309 this priest of the Most High God named Melchizedek, 00:18:07.309 --> 00:18:10.640 and there was a whole issue of... of transference, 00:18:10.640 --> 00:18:13.680 of allegiance, and the tithes and offerings being 00:18:13.680 --> 00:18:17.660 given to God because of Melchizedek. And Melchizedek 00:18:17.660 --> 00:18:21.079 offered bread and wine, which is a representative 00:18:21.079 --> 00:18:24.900 of this table today. But as a nation is concerned, 00:18:25.039 --> 00:18:30.500 as a whole people group is concerned, it wasn't 00:18:30.500 --> 00:18:35.200 just mano y mano, Jesus. Because I think Melchizedek's 00:18:35.200 --> 00:18:38.539 office was Jesus prior to the cross coming to 00:18:38.539 --> 00:18:41.299 reveal himself in covenant relationship with 00:18:41.299 --> 00:18:43.220 Abraham. I don't have time to go into that this 00:18:43.220 --> 00:18:45.940 morning. But the reality is there's no other 00:18:45.940 --> 00:18:50.579 place that we get now a whole nation actually 00:18:50.579 --> 00:18:53.799 coming to a place that represents the communion 00:18:53.799 --> 00:18:58.319 table except this first account coming out of 00:18:58.319 --> 00:19:03.049 Exodus. The whole nation. sits down at a table. 00:19:03.109 --> 00:19:08.309 Think about that. The whole nation sits down 00:19:08.309 --> 00:19:14.690 at a table. God had so designed it that when 00:19:14.690 --> 00:19:18.750 he chose to deliver people and finally bring 00:19:18.750 --> 00:19:22.769 them out of what they had been bound, notice 00:19:22.769 --> 00:19:25.390 the very first thing. Oh my goodness, I'm gonna 00:19:25.390 --> 00:19:29.170 preach on this a little bit. The very first thing 00:19:29.170 --> 00:19:35.559 that he does is he doesn't lead them in celebration 00:19:35.559 --> 00:19:42.339 and in joy. That comes next. The sacrifice shows that God was being 00:34:57.050 --> 00:35:01.630 fair when he held back And did not punish those 00:35:01.630 --> 00:35:05.010 who sinned in times past. For he was looking 00:35:05.010 --> 00:35:09.329 ahead to include them in what he would do in 00:35:09.329 --> 00:35:13.110 the present time with his son Jesus. God did 00:35:13.110 --> 00:35:17.610 this to demonstrate his righteousness. For he 00:35:17.610 --> 00:35:22.030 himself is fair and just. To the saints in Corinth. He declares to 00:36:28.210 --> 00:36:32.099 them, remember? You believed, and by saying you're 00:36:32.099 --> 00:36:34.719 a saint, he wasn't actually honoring Catholic 00:36:34.719 --> 00:36:42.000 church. He was actually saying, because positionally 00:36:42.000 --> 00:36:44.699 of what you've confessed by the blood of Jesus 00:36:44.699 --> 00:36:49.440 Christ, God considers you a saint.
