The name Rephidim actually means 00:07:19.339 --> 00:07:25.339 a place to spread out. Now it's significant when you understand 00:08:40.840 --> 00:08:44.179 that the children of Israel As we see in the 00:08:44.179 --> 00:08:48.100 book of Exodus, as they, remember, they went 00:08:48.100 --> 00:08:50.100 through the 10 plagues, and I don't have time 00:08:50.100 --> 00:08:52.620 to go into it, but if you've never heard this 00:08:52.620 --> 00:08:54.480 before, it's very, very important that you understand 00:08:54.480 --> 00:08:58.899 this. Every plague that happened was in direct 00:08:58.899 --> 00:09:03.720 challenge and defeat of 10 different small G 00:09:03.720 --> 00:09:09.860 deities of Egypt. Every plague was a challenge 00:09:09.860 --> 00:09:15.330 and a defeat. of what the Egyptians, their magicians, 00:09:15.429 --> 00:09:18.789 their occult practicers, believed were the gods 00:09:18.789 --> 00:09:21.970 of Egypt. And God destroyed them systematically, 00:09:22.429 --> 00:09:26.929 one by one by one. So much so that the last two 00:09:26.929 --> 00:09:30.690 plagues... was against the god Ra, which was 00:09:30.690 --> 00:09:32.929 the sun god, and then the last one was against 00:09:32.929 --> 00:09:36.190 Pharaoh himself, who represented the gods above 00:09:36.190 --> 00:09:39.370 all the pantheons of gods, who was the supreme 00:09:39.370 --> 00:09:43.490 god, and the Lord took his firstborn. It was 00:09:43.490 --> 00:09:46.149 a saying, you have no power at all. He humbled 00:09:46.149 --> 00:09:49.210 every, now listen, the magicians and the occult 00:09:49.210 --> 00:09:54.990 practitioners could stand and operate in supernatural 00:09:54.990 --> 00:10:01.440 powers to the first three signs. Right? They 00:10:01.440 --> 00:10:07.159 could do the leprosy. They could do the staff 00:10:07.159 --> 00:10:09.700 turning into a serpent. And they could do the 00:10:09.700 --> 00:10:12.059 water into the blood. But once they started going 00:10:12.059 --> 00:10:15.799 plague four through 10, they even said of themselves, 00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:18.259 this is none other than the very finger of God, 00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:22.019 destroying the fact that Pharaoh was the ultimate 00:10:22.019 --> 00:10:26.690 God. And the pride of Pharaoh, the pride of them 00:10:26.690 --> 00:10:29.870 putting their opinions, their values in another 00:10:29.870 --> 00:10:32.690 system and another pantheon of gods rather than 00:10:32.690 --> 00:10:35.330 the one true living God was shown and it was 00:10:35.330 --> 00:10:38.429 to break the children of Israel's understanding 00:10:38.429 --> 00:10:44.190 because they had lived in that culture for 400 00:10:44.190 --> 00:10:49.389 years. Now listen, we're gonna celebrate the 00:10:49.389 --> 00:10:56.950 250th anniversary 1776 here in July. 250 years. 00:10:57.090 --> 00:11:01.929 Just think of how much our nation has gone through 00:11:01.929 --> 00:11:06.629 and in its process of some great, some not so 00:11:06.629 --> 00:11:10.750 great things that we've grown for 250 years in 00:11:10.750 --> 00:11:14.990 our processes. Look what we've lost along the 00:11:14.990 --> 00:11:21.850 way. That's at 250. The Bible's very clear. that 00:11:21.850 --> 00:11:27.889 after Jacob died in the land of Goshen and that 00:11:27.889 --> 00:11:31.070 Joseph had him embalmed and Jacob's last statement 00:11:31.070 --> 00:11:36.309 to Joseph is, do not leave me here. Why? Jacob 00:11:36.309 --> 00:11:40.710 was a prophetic person. He was saying, I'm gonna 00:11:40.710 --> 00:11:44.570 pass away and I'm not gonna see all the promises 00:11:44.570 --> 00:11:48.769 fulfilled, but don't you leave a shred of me 00:11:48.769 --> 00:11:54.460 of what's left. In this place. You carry my bones. 00:11:54.980 --> 00:11:59.779 To the place of promise. And that will preach. 00:12:00.899 --> 00:12:04.450 I may not see it on this side. Now that's, I'm gonna preach this 00:12:37.799 --> 00:12:41.480 morning because I can, there is something on 00:12:41.480 --> 00:12:44.779 this that we need to understand. This is what 00:12:44.779 --> 00:12:47.559 God wanted with the children of Israel. He wanted 00:12:47.559 --> 00:12:52.399 them to have something more than the world system 00:12:52.399 --> 00:12:56.220 and the occult system. That was intertwined. 00:12:56.860 --> 00:13:01.019 Let me say that again. You cannot have a world 00:13:01.019 --> 00:13:06.200 system without an occult system. To think that 00:13:06.200 --> 00:13:09.860 the world system is without power and without 00:13:09.860 --> 00:13:13.940 authority and without the ability to bind is 00:13:13.940 --> 00:13:18.559 foolishness. Because the world system and the 00:13:18.559 --> 00:13:22.080 occult system operate together. But when God's 00:13:22.080 --> 00:13:26.000 system comes and salvation comes and the blood 00:13:26.000 --> 00:13:29.460 comes and the water comes and the oil comes, 00:13:29.600 --> 00:13:33.179 it breaks the authority of every system that's 00:13:33.179 --> 00:13:36.259 got in your mind, got in your body, and got in 00:13:36.259 --> 00:13:42.039 your thinking. And the point was to get Egypt 00:13:42.039 --> 00:13:46.450 out of Israel. Because now they've had not just 00:13:46.450 --> 00:13:50.870 400 years there. Joseph lived there with Jacob. 00:13:50.950 --> 00:13:54.169 Then Joseph died and they lived long, I mean, 00:13:54.169 --> 00:13:57.929 120 years. He died and then the scripture specifically 00:13:57.929 --> 00:14:01.649 says, and then a generation arose that did not 00:14:01.649 --> 00:14:07.090 know Jacob or Joseph. And that's when the Pharaohs 00:14:07.090 --> 00:14:10.990 said, we have to turn them into slavery. So from 00:14:10.990 --> 00:14:15.840 400 years, in essence, they had 300 years that 00:14:15.840 --> 00:14:20.600 they were under complete bondage. 100 years between 00:14:20.600 --> 00:14:23.320 the generations living, they lived in the land 00:14:23.320 --> 00:14:25.980 of Goshen, not realizing how wonderful it was 00:14:25.980 --> 00:14:30.580 until the bite of the clamp of that system of 00:14:30.580 --> 00:14:34.539 culture, that system of the world, enslaved them, 00:14:34.720 --> 00:14:38.659 removed their freedoms, and began to warp their 00:14:38.659 --> 00:14:42.379 minds of how they thought. What did they think? 00:14:42.399 --> 00:14:46.340 They thought of themselves differently. They 00:14:46.340 --> 00:14:48.779 knew their heritage. They knew their culture. 00:14:48.840 --> 00:14:51.679 They kept operating in the understanding that 00:14:51.679 --> 00:14:55.159 they were Hebrews, but they could not seem to 00:14:55.159 --> 00:14:58.500 break out of it. And when God began to deliver 00:14:58.500 --> 00:15:02.120 his people through his power and through his 00:15:02.120 --> 00:15:06.500 word, even though... Every single time there 00:15:06.500 --> 00:15:09.259 was a hardening of heart and seemed like resistance 00:15:09.259 --> 00:15:12.440 at every level. How many have ever been in something 00:15:12.440 --> 00:15:15.419 where you get a word from God and then immediately 00:15:15.419 --> 00:15:18.860 find resistance harder than it was in the last 00:15:18.860 --> 00:15:24.299 atmosphere? Okay, three of us. The reality is 00:15:24.299 --> 00:15:26.600 when God is going to break you out of something, 00:15:27.659 --> 00:15:30.799 And he's fixing to do something on your behalf, 00:15:30.860 --> 00:15:33.220 which he's always doing. I mean, it's a great 00:15:33.220 --> 00:15:35.240 little Southern word. God is always fixing to 00:15:35.240 --> 00:15:38.600 do something good. Okay, I mean, we sing about 00:15:38.600 --> 00:15:41.179 it. He's moving, he's moving, he's working. Even 00:15:41.179 --> 00:15:43.039 when I don't see it, he's moving, he's working. 00:15:43.299 --> 00:15:46.659 When he's going to do something, don't be surprised 00:15:46.659 --> 00:15:49.460 that the thing that you've been praying for all 00:15:49.460 --> 00:15:55.259 of a sudden gets harder. For the majority of Israel, they didn't 00:15:58.090 --> 00:16:03.730 clue in to what God was doing with his word and 00:16:03.730 --> 00:16:08.750 his leaders of speaking to the thing and bringing 00:16:08.750 --> 00:16:12.210 breakthrough. They just got more discouraged. 00:16:12.309 --> 00:16:14.149 Why? Because all of a sudden they got less straw. 00:16:14.350 --> 00:16:18.309 All of a sudden their world got harder. And they 00:16:18.309 --> 00:16:21.909 had already been longing for freedom but didn't 00:16:21.909 --> 00:16:25.039 know how to use freedom. And then when it got 00:16:25.039 --> 00:16:28.879 harsher and the taskmaster's whip got more sting 00:16:28.879 --> 00:16:32.799 to it because they developed a tolerance of living 00:16:32.799 --> 00:16:37.740 oppressed, they didn't know what to do. And God 00:16:37.740 --> 00:16:40.340 was breaking them out. So you look at the 10 00:16:40.340 --> 00:16:43.480 plagues, the last plague, killing the firstborn 00:16:43.480 --> 00:16:47.379 of all of Egypt from slave to the Pharaoh's house, 00:16:47.460 --> 00:16:51.980 only the blood. Only the blood of the lamb on 00:16:51.980 --> 00:16:54.860 the doorpost caused the death angel to pass over. 00:16:55.379 --> 00:16:59.419 And then they go to the waters and get us, what 00:16:59.419 --> 00:17:02.440 is that? Again, Pharaoh like, what in the world 00:17:02.440 --> 00:17:05.180 did we do? Get on your chariots and get after 00:17:05.180 --> 00:17:11.920 them. What did God do? Drove the enemy to pursue 00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:16.599 after them. See, we don't always think that when 00:17:16.599 --> 00:17:19.380 there's victory, We look behind us and when we 00:17:19.380 --> 00:17:23.660 see it coming, we get paralyzed in fear. And 00:17:23.660 --> 00:17:28.200 God had to keep moving them forward. Pharaoh's 00:17:28.200 --> 00:17:32.019 army drowned in the Red Sea. Then they go to 00:17:32.019 --> 00:17:35.259 the mountain where God comes down on the mountain 00:17:35.259 --> 00:17:39.160 by fire. Just prior to that, what happened? They 00:17:39.160 --> 00:17:41.740 went to bitter waters. God had them throw the 00:17:41.740 --> 00:17:46.089 tree or the... big beam of tree in the water. 00:17:46.109 --> 00:17:48.490 He made it sweet. He revealed his covenant. We 00:17:48.490 --> 00:17:51.849 sang about today, healing. God revealed himself 00:17:51.849 --> 00:17:54.710 as Jehovah Rapha. Then he revealed himself on 00:17:54.710 --> 00:17:58.029 the mountain. The God would display who he was 00:17:58.029 --> 00:18:01.690 like a kiln. That the quaking and the shaking 00:18:01.690 --> 00:18:04.490 and the fire on the mountain and the voice of 00:18:04.490 --> 00:18:07.049 the Lord that would come, that all of God's people 00:18:07.049 --> 00:18:10.450 were supposed to hear. And it's at that moment. 00:18:11.279 --> 00:18:13.519 that they turned and said, we don't want to hear 00:18:13.519 --> 00:18:17.960 his voice. Let somebody else go up before us. 00:18:18.779 --> 00:18:22.720 And they moved from a platform of actually being 00:18:22.720 --> 00:18:25.839 able for every one of them to encounter the Lord, 00:18:25.920 --> 00:18:29.799 to move to a, if I could say this, a caste system 00:18:29.799 --> 00:18:33.640 where they would just depend on somebody else's 00:18:33.640 --> 00:18:36.599 words. And then they said this, Moses, you go 00:18:36.599 --> 00:18:41.279 up and whatever you say, we will do. Lie, lie, 00:18:41.359 --> 00:18:48.019 lie, lie, lie. That didn't last only but a few 00:18:48.019 --> 00:18:52.480 weeks. And then what did they come? As they came 00:18:52.480 --> 00:18:56.519 out of that place where God wanted to actually 00:18:56.519 --> 00:18:59.380 reveal his voice, his power, and his authority 00:18:59.380 --> 00:19:02.980 to them, they came into a place, into a desert, 00:19:03.140 --> 00:19:07.000 into a place called Rephidim. And this is where 00:19:07.519 --> 00:19:12.900 Their trust was to actually let down, not let 00:19:12.900 --> 00:19:15.220 go. There's a big difference between letting 00:19:15.220 --> 00:19:18.980 go and letting down. Letting down in trust means 00:19:18.980 --> 00:19:23.599 what? It's a picture of Hebrews chapter four. 00:19:25.200 --> 00:19:31.000 It's the rest of faith. It's the place where 00:19:31.000 --> 00:19:36.500 you so trust God in who he is. that you can now 00:19:36.500 --> 00:19:40.480 cease from striving and put your whole allegiance 00:19:40.480 --> 00:19:44.079 on his ability to perform what he said he was 00:19:44.079 --> 00:19:48.519 due. And God was taking them from what?
