But I found that a lot of times when I 00:05:44.980 --> 00:05:46.920 travel in the body of Christ, I look at people 00:05:46.920 --> 00:05:51.019 and many believers, many believers are people 00:05:51.019 --> 00:05:53.079 like we're going to talk about tonight. They 00:05:53.079 --> 00:05:57.319 want something, they desire something, but they 00:05:57.769 --> 00:06:01.189 don't finish. They start things, but they don't 00:06:01.189 --> 00:06:03.850 finish. Now, I want to read something to you 00:06:03.850 --> 00:06:07.149 out of 1 Kings, the 17th chapter, and I have 00:06:07.149 --> 00:06:10.850 an old -fashioned Bible with paper still, and 00:06:10.850 --> 00:06:13.850 it's going to just help me tonight. Just for 00:06:13.850 --> 00:06:16.990 a second, in 1 Kings chapter 17, it says, in 00:06:16.990 --> 00:06:21.139 Elijah the Tishbite, was of the inhabitants of 00:06:21.139 --> 00:06:23.720 Gilead and said unto Ahab, as the Lord lives, 00:06:23.920 --> 00:06:26.439 Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, 00:06:26.500 --> 00:06:28.759 there shall not be dew nor rain for these years, 00:06:28.800 --> 00:06:32.420 but according to my word. And the word of the 00:06:32.420 --> 00:06:35.180 Lord came unto him saying, and I'll stop right 00:06:35.180 --> 00:06:38.000 there. I want to go back. It says, Elisha the 00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:42.600 Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead. 00:06:44.040 --> 00:06:46.240 And so I stopped there and I looked at that and 00:06:46.240 --> 00:06:48.819 I said, well, why does it say that? No one had 00:06:48.819 --> 00:06:51.819 ever heard of Elijah. No one had heard any lineage 00:06:51.819 --> 00:06:54.399 about Elijah. But it says all of a sudden this 00:06:54.399 --> 00:06:57.959 man pops up in the Bible. Elijah, the Tishbite, 00:06:58.120 --> 00:07:01.300 tells you where he's from, what kind of person 00:07:01.300 --> 00:07:04.120 he is, the nature of the people. And then he 00:07:04.120 --> 00:07:06.899 tells you the town and the location, Gilead. 00:07:07.839 --> 00:07:10.199 Well, one of the things about people that were 00:07:10.199 --> 00:07:13.680 Tishbites, Tishbites were people. And this is 00:07:13.680 --> 00:07:16.879 a trait and a characteristic of the Tishbite 00:07:16.879 --> 00:07:19.439 people. They were people that would start things 00:07:19.439 --> 00:07:23.740 and they would get going on them and they would 00:07:23.740 --> 00:07:26.199 work and they would become diligent and they'd 00:07:26.199 --> 00:07:28.560 have vision and dreams and hopes and they'd get 00:07:28.560 --> 00:07:30.620 right to the point where they would begin to 00:07:30.620 --> 00:07:33.160 break through into a new dimension. But before 00:07:33.160 --> 00:07:36.420 that, they would stop, become afraid, and go 00:07:36.420 --> 00:07:41.139 back. Kind of like the picture of... the great 00:07:41.139 --> 00:07:44.139 classic, The Wizard of Oz, when you see the cowardly 00:07:44.139 --> 00:07:46.560 lion, when he goes in the hallway, when he's 00:07:46.560 --> 00:07:49.579 in Oz, in the Emerald City, and he's there, and 00:07:49.579 --> 00:07:52.379 they're finding out who the wizard is, and he's 00:07:52.379 --> 00:07:54.220 standing there behind the curtain with this big 00:07:54.220 --> 00:07:56.500 head appearing, and he's working the knobs, and 00:07:56.500 --> 00:07:58.560 they're trembling, and the music is heavy, and 00:07:58.560 --> 00:08:00.959 they're shaking, and all of a sudden, you know, 00:08:00.959 --> 00:08:03.680 he said, I am the great and powerful Oz, and 00:08:03.680 --> 00:08:05.959 the lion is standing there, and he says, what 00:08:05.959 --> 00:08:08.660 do you want, lion? And the lion starts to change, 00:08:08.779 --> 00:08:12.279 and he just runs away. He gets right to the point 00:08:12.279 --> 00:08:15.740 where he's about to have a breakthrough, and 00:08:15.740 --> 00:08:19.000 he runs back. You know the scene. He runs down 00:08:19.000 --> 00:08:21.040 the hallway, and he jumps through the window 00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:24.519 and breaks the glass. That's a tishbite person, 00:08:24.680 --> 00:08:29.879 starting things and never finishing them. It 00:08:29.879 --> 00:08:32.379 says he was of the inhabitants of Gilead, and 00:08:32.379 --> 00:08:34.899 the Gileadian people were people that were born. 00:08:34.960 --> 00:08:37.620 That word means the dunghill. It means the rocky 00:08:37.620 --> 00:08:42.320 place, the hard place. So this man grew up in 00:08:42.320 --> 00:08:45.159 a place that was tough. It was rugged. It was, 00:08:45.159 --> 00:08:48.399 for lack of better terms, it was the dung hill. 00:08:48.519 --> 00:08:51.559 Amen. I'll just use that phrase tonight. No one 00:08:51.559 --> 00:08:54.320 ever accomplished anything. The place was full 00:08:54.320 --> 00:08:58.899 of dung, and he was there. He had a bad start, 00:08:59.039 --> 00:09:02.059 I would say. And when he would try things, nothing 00:09:02.059 --> 00:09:05.039 would work. But when we finally catch up with 00:09:05.039 --> 00:09:09.049 him, God is about to do something in his life 00:09:09.049 --> 00:09:12.190 that's bigger than where he's been. So it says 00:09:12.190 --> 00:09:14.409 Elijah the Tishbite, he said of the inhabitants 00:09:14.409 --> 00:09:18.289 of Gilead, he said, starts to speak. Now he's 00:09:18.289 --> 00:09:21.789 already a prophet. And he speaks to a king at 00:09:21.789 --> 00:09:24.309 this point. And he says, as the Lord God lives, 00:09:24.470 --> 00:09:28.149 okay, for whom I stand, there shall not be rain 00:09:28.149 --> 00:09:31.429 or dew until I say so. So he had a confidence 00:09:31.429 --> 00:09:33.830 that was unique. The prophetic word was on him, 00:09:33.870 --> 00:09:37.389 it was heavy, and he was a serious guy. But God 00:09:37.389 --> 00:09:41.269 knew he needed more. Sometimes we can come into 00:09:41.269 --> 00:09:43.309 this thing and we have the word of the Lord and 00:09:43.309 --> 00:09:45.250 we're confident, and we've been living off of 00:09:45.250 --> 00:09:50.600 that stale word for a long time. And I look around, 00:09:50.740 --> 00:09:53.480 I've been all over preaching the gospel for years, 00:09:53.700 --> 00:09:56.879 and I've seen all kinds of denominational groups, 00:09:57.019 --> 00:10:00.720 all kinds of ethnic groups. I've seen all kinds 00:10:00.720 --> 00:10:03.019 of folks over the years. And one of the things 00:10:03.019 --> 00:10:07.159 I always see is people become underachievers. 00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:12.639 All right, let me hurry up because I'm explaining 00:10:12.639 --> 00:10:17.259 this too much. And so God says, that's nice. 00:10:18.439 --> 00:10:20.799 Listen to what Elijah says. He said, but according 00:10:20.799 --> 00:10:25.720 to my word. So God's looking at him like, oh, 00:10:26.159 --> 00:10:33.259 all right. Your word, huh? Every word that you 00:10:33.259 --> 00:10:38.840 and I speak will be tested. How many ever made 00:10:38.840 --> 00:10:41.220 deals with God and say, God, if you get me out 00:10:41.220 --> 00:10:44.340 of this, I'll do this. That's the big one. We 00:10:44.340 --> 00:10:48.000 always make the old deal. Or God, if you help 00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:51.620 me to get this, I'll do this. I promise if you 00:10:51.620 --> 00:10:53.139 give me that promotion and that raise, I promise 00:10:53.139 --> 00:11:01.779 you I'll tithe 59%. God listens to your words. 00:11:03.700 --> 00:11:07.000 But one thing he knows about words, words have 00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:12.500 to be proven. Words have to be qualified. He said, hide yourself by the brook 00:11:56.120 --> 00:12:02.460 Cherith. Now that's strange. Hide yourself? A lot of times when things are in 00:12:33.950 --> 00:12:36.970 their new stage, it's a joyful thing. Like when 00:12:36.970 --> 00:12:39.029 people first have a baby or when somebody gets 00:12:39.029 --> 00:12:41.690 a new car, you get a new house or a new job or 00:12:41.690 --> 00:12:44.529 something like that. It's a new beginning. And 00:12:44.529 --> 00:12:46.210 it should be a lot of joy when you have a new 00:12:46.210 --> 00:12:50.129 beginning. And see, beginnings are a psychological 00:12:50.129 --> 00:12:53.029 phenomenon more than anything else. Like I remember 00:12:53.029 --> 00:12:55.629 when I got a car.
