So 00:01:49.549 --> 00:01:54.959 first question. If Job was blameless, does that 00:01:54.959 --> 00:02:00.959 mean he was sinless? So. No, first and foremost. 00:02:02.540 --> 00:02:06.640 The simple short part of that is no blameless 00:02:06.640 --> 00:02:09.939 doesn't mean sinless and not that this person 00:02:09.939 --> 00:02:12.280 was saying that, but I think that's what a lot 00:02:12.280 --> 00:02:16.960 of our minds wonder. And so the Bible is actually 00:02:16.960 --> 00:02:21.830 really clear that everyone except Jesus is sinful, 00:02:21.830 --> 00:02:25.889 right? So we are born into sin because of Adam 00:02:25.889 --> 00:02:34.789 and Eve and their sin. But. Job. Was a good man 00:02:34.789 --> 00:02:39.469 who loved the Lord and but Job wasn't an exception 00:02:39.469 --> 00:02:45.370 to being sinless. OK, so why does God call him 00:02:45.370 --> 00:02:48.770 blameless? Notice that he uses blameless, not 00:02:48.770 --> 00:02:53.860 sinless. So the word blameless in Hebrew. And 00:02:53.860 --> 00:02:56.500 basically like if you translated it into English 00:02:56.500 --> 00:03:00.080 for the word that that's used and that's used 00:03:00.080 --> 00:03:03.139 in Hebrew, it can have a whole it can mean whole 00:03:03.139 --> 00:03:08.539 or complete or a person of integrity. And so 00:03:08.539 --> 00:03:13.139 it's describing the overall direction of Job's 00:03:13.139 --> 00:03:16.699 life, not claiming that he was morally perfect. 00:03:17.300 --> 00:03:20.669 So. The best way for me to put it for you to 00:03:20.669 --> 00:03:22.530 like, if you if you're not getting it, the best 00:03:22.530 --> 00:03:25.889 way to to understand it would be like this. If 00:03:25.889 --> 00:03:30.770 someone was to describe a faithful husband and 00:03:30.770 --> 00:03:33.509 you said, yes, my husband is faithful, he is 00:03:33.509 --> 00:03:38.870 loving. You wouldn't you wouldn't mean that he 00:03:38.870 --> 00:03:41.710 has never made a mistake, right? You wouldn't 00:03:41.710 --> 00:03:48.449 say. He was without sin, right? You would just 00:03:48.449 --> 00:03:52.210 mean he's devoted to his wife. He's devoted to 00:03:52.210 --> 00:03:56.729 you as his spouse. He is a man who is devoted 00:03:56.729 --> 00:03:59.409 to his friends and to his church and is a man 00:03:59.409 --> 00:04:03.449 of integrity, right? Like his life is characterized 00:04:03.449 --> 00:04:06.789 by faithfulness. Does that make sense? I hope 00:04:06.789 --> 00:04:09.789 it does. And so that's the idea of what we understand 00:04:09.789 --> 00:04:13.069 with Job. And so Job wasn't hiding some sort 00:04:13.069 --> 00:04:14.849 of this. That's what it wants us to understand. 00:04:14.949 --> 00:04:19.420 Job wasn't hiding. some sort of secret sin or 00:04:19.420 --> 00:04:22.600 rebellion against God. He wasn't living a double 00:04:22.600 --> 00:04:26.160 life. He wasn't cherishing his own sin, for that 00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:29.160 matter. He was a man whose heart was genuinely 00:04:29.160 --> 00:04:32.480 for the Lord and wanted to serve him. But that 00:04:32.480 --> 00:04:37.379 did not mean he was perfect. In fact, when you 00:04:37.379 --> 00:04:40.360 look at the opening chapters of Job, it describes 00:04:40.360 --> 00:04:43.720 him as honest, as generous, as just. It shows 00:04:43.720 --> 00:04:46.569 that he is devoted to his family. and someone 00:04:46.569 --> 00:04:49.189 who feared God and he turned away from evil. 00:04:49.230 --> 00:04:51.769 It even says that he made offerings on behalf 00:04:51.769 --> 00:04:54.910 of his children. So that's what blameless looks 00:04:54.910 --> 00:04:58.310 like. It's being all of those things and being 00:04:58.310 --> 00:05:02.269 the sum of the entirety of your life. It's when 00:05:02.269 --> 00:05:04.930 God looked at the overall pattern of Job's life, 00:05:05.050 --> 00:05:09.569 it was he saw Job's integrity. And so here's 00:05:09.569 --> 00:05:12.589 why. that all matters. And so the entire book 00:05:12.589 --> 00:05:17.009 of Job is about suffering. Right. So that's that's 00:05:17.009 --> 00:05:19.769 the distinction we have to understand. But why 00:05:19.769 --> 00:05:21.990 do we need to understand that? Because why does 00:05:21.990 --> 00:05:24.170 Satan make the claim? Like, what does Satan come 00:05:24.170 --> 00:05:26.930 to God for? Like, the whole thing opens up with 00:05:26.930 --> 00:05:30.990 what Satan making an accusation to God. And he 00:05:30.990 --> 00:05:35.269 says, basically, people only job only serves 00:05:35.269 --> 00:05:40.810 you because you bless him. And he says, if you 00:05:40.810 --> 00:05:44.889 allow me to take away his health, his wealth, 00:05:44.930 --> 00:05:47.709 his family, he will curse you. It's only because 00:05:47.709 --> 00:05:52.470 he's blessed. And so the question isn't whether 00:05:52.470 --> 00:05:55.709 Job is perfect. The question is whether someone 00:05:55.709 --> 00:05:58.930 can genuinely love God, even when there's nothing 00:05:58.930 --> 00:06:05.509 to gain. And so God is willing to take that bet 00:06:05.509 --> 00:06:10.139 and go, yeah, no, okay. I know who Job is. So 00:06:10.139 --> 00:06:12.180 let's, let's see it. He says, but you know, you 00:06:12.180 --> 00:06:15.740 can't kill him. Uh, and so that's why Job's integrity 00:06:15.740 --> 00:06:18.899 is important. That's why God says he is blameless 00:06:18.899 --> 00:06:22.019 above all others because he is a man of integrity. 00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:25.500 So God's like, basically it would be to put it 00:06:25.500 --> 00:06:28.879 in baseball terms. It would be like, if someone 00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:34.420 said my best against your best and my guy is 00:06:34.420 --> 00:06:39.180 going to win hands down. He's only good because 00:06:39.180 --> 00:06:43.879 you faced bad pitching. And I'd be like, okay, 00:06:44.040 --> 00:06:50.399 cool. I have the major league AL MVP on my team. 00:06:51.019 --> 00:06:53.319 And I know without a shadow of a doubt, this 00:06:53.319 --> 00:06:57.060 dude can absolutely slap. And so I put him out 00:06:57.060 --> 00:06:59.360 there and I have all the confidence in the world 00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:03.149 that he is going to come through. But God knew 00:07:03.149 --> 00:07:05.709 that his, his bet was even, even better than 00:07:05.709 --> 00:07:10.110 that. Like he knew who Job was. And so if Job 00:07:10.110 --> 00:07:13.470 had been living in obvious rebellion, his suffering 00:07:13.470 --> 00:07:17.889 would have an easy explanation. We go back to, 00:07:18.050 --> 00:07:21.050 if we go to Job's friends and they're like, you 00:07:21.050 --> 00:07:22.649 obviously have sinned, right? They keep going 00:07:22.649 --> 00:07:24.269 back to that. That's why you're suffering. You've 00:07:24.269 --> 00:07:28.439 obviously have sinned and Job is so, uh, confused 00:07:28.439 --> 00:07:30.160 by because he's like, I can't think of anything. 00:07:30.160 --> 00:07:33.600 I will repent of anything that I've done. But 00:07:33.600 --> 00:07:36.379 instead, we're confronted with something that's 00:07:36.379 --> 00:07:39.980 much harder. And that is this, what do we do 00:07:39.980 --> 00:07:42.980 when someone sincerely loves God and yet they're 00:07:42.980 --> 00:07:47.259 still suffering? That's the tension of the book 00:07:47.259 --> 00:07:52.180 of Job. And so if we know Job wasn't sinless, 00:07:52.360 --> 00:07:55.500 because by the end of the book, after God speaks, 00:07:55.920 --> 00:07:58.480 Job ultimately humbles himself and does what? 00:07:58.680 --> 00:08:02.660 Repents. And so he didn't repent because he suddenly 00:08:02.660 --> 00:08:06.060 realized he'd committed a secret sin that caused 00:08:06.060 --> 00:08:09.379 all of his suffering. He repented because standing 00:08:09.379 --> 00:08:13.139 before the holiness of God exposed his own limitations 00:08:13.139 --> 00:08:16.519 and his pride and his own lack of understanding. 00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:20.079 And so essentially, here's the big takeaway. 00:08:20.779 --> 00:08:23.819 You don't have to be perfect to be described 00:08:23.819 --> 00:08:27.920 as blameless. God isn't looking for flawless 00:08:27.920 --> 00:08:31.160 people. Thanks the Lord for that. He's looking 00:08:31.160 --> 00:08:36.340 for people whose hearts are wholly His. People 00:08:36.340 --> 00:08:39.799 who confess their sins. People who repent when 00:08:39.799 --> 00:08:43.179 they're wrong. People whose lives are marked 00:08:43.179 --> 00:08:47.259 by integrity rather than hypocrisy. And so that's 00:08:47.259 --> 00:08:49.559 the kind of blamelessness that we see in Job. 00:08:49.740 --> 00:08:53.659 And thankfully, because of Christ, that's the 00:08:53.659 --> 00:08:56.700 kind of life God is producing in all of his people. 00:08:57.879 --> 00:09:01.100 So I hope that helps. So now we got a second 00:09:01.100 --> 00:09:03.840 question. This question is a little bit harder 00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:06.460 to answer, but I hope that you stay with me, 00:09:06.480 --> 00:09:11.860 okay? So the question is this, why did God choose 00:09:11.860 --> 00:09:14.440 Israel to be his people out of all the nations? 00:09:14.820 --> 00:09:19.809 Why Israel? This is a cosmic question. This is 00:09:19.809 --> 00:09:23.789 one that has to do with where you have to understand 00:09:23.789 --> 00:09:29.210 the unseen realm. And I don't mean the unseen 00:09:29.210 --> 00:09:33.690 things in scripture. I mean literally the realm 00:09:33.690 --> 00:09:36.350 that is unseen, the one that is complete with 00:09:36.350 --> 00:09:44.340 demons and angels and all of that stuff. You 00:09:44.340 --> 00:09:47.799 have to go back to and you've got to look at 00:09:47.799 --> 00:09:49.860 a few things. One, you've got to look at the 00:09:49.860 --> 00:09:52.519 fall. Two, you've got to look at the Tower of 00:09:52.519 --> 00:09:54.980 Babel. And three, you have to look at what's 00:09:54.980 --> 00:09:59.799 called the Deuteronomy 32 worldview. Maybe like 00:09:59.799 --> 00:10:04.519 I've never heard of such Pastor Logan. Yes, it 00:10:04.519 --> 00:10:06.740 is a very real thing and it is what theologians 00:10:06.740 --> 00:10:11.000 would describe as why Israel was chosen to be 00:10:11.000 --> 00:10:16.820 God's people. Uh, and, and just spoiler alert, 00:10:18.039 --> 00:10:20.519 God didn't choose Israel because they were the 00:10:20.519 --> 00:10:24.059 best. They weren't, they weren't the most obedient. 00:10:24.460 --> 00:10:27.399 They weren't, uh, they weren't the biggest nation. 00:10:27.720 --> 00:10:31.779 Uh, they weren't anything that was great. Okay. 00:10:32.039 --> 00:10:35.720 And so Moses actually tells us in Deuteronomy, 00:10:35.720 --> 00:10:37.720 it's actually the exact opposite of all those 00:10:37.720 --> 00:10:40.120 things. And so Israel, like I said, wasn't the 00:10:40.120 --> 00:10:43.120 largest. They weren't the strongest. Um, They 00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:46.200 were definitely not righteous. And so if you've 00:10:46.200 --> 00:10:48.279 read the Old Testament, you know, they certainly 00:10:48.279 --> 00:10:53.039 weren't obedient. Right. So why did God choose 00:10:53.039 --> 00:10:55.919 them? And the answer is very, very, very, very 00:10:55.919 --> 00:11:00.340 simple. Because God loved them. Oh, well, yeah. 00:11:00.360 --> 00:11:05.940 OK, Pastor Logan, sure. Fine. OK, but let me 00:11:05.940 --> 00:11:08.340 let me get a little bit. Let's let's go a little 00:11:08.340 --> 00:11:14.519 bit deeper. Essentially, When you look at Genesis 00:11:14.519 --> 00:11:19.360 12, or I'm sorry, when you look at the Tower 00:11:19.360 --> 00:11:25.039 of Babel, what is happening in the Tower of Babel? 00:11:25.500 --> 00:11:28.019 Well, you have what's called the dividing up 00:11:28.019 --> 00:11:29.720 of the nations. And that's essentially what is 00:11:29.720 --> 00:11:33.940 being talked about in Deuteronomy 32 is the way 00:11:33.940 --> 00:11:38.190 Israel saw other nations. and their gods, lesser 00:11:38.190 --> 00:11:42.850 gods, right? So not gods like Yahweh. There is 00:11:42.850 --> 00:11:46.370 only he is uncreated and there is only one like 00:11:46.370 --> 00:11:51.129 him. Father, son, Holy Spirit, triune God, no 00:11:51.129 --> 00:11:53.970 other like him. He is the only uncreated being. 00:11:54.409 --> 00:11:55.610 Special Logan, then what are you talking about 00:11:55.610 --> 00:11:57.649 other gods? I'm talking about what is called 00:11:57.649 --> 00:12:00.990 the divine council, which is in Psalm 81. You 00:12:00.990 --> 00:12:03.970 can go read about them there. I've done a little 00:12:03.970 --> 00:12:07.490 bit. talking about them in another podcast. I'll 00:12:07.490 --> 00:12:10.110 link it down in the description of this one. 00:12:11.309 --> 00:12:15.649 But you can see them in Daniel when when you 00:12:15.649 --> 00:12:21.049 see that says the god of or the the. How do they 00:12:21.049 --> 00:12:23.190 explain it? OK, I can't remember how it said, 00:12:23.289 --> 00:12:28.250 but essentially it talks about. The the controller 00:12:28.250 --> 00:12:32.070 of Greece, right? So Gabriel is trying to come 00:12:32.070 --> 00:12:36.169 down to answer. Daniel's message from God or 00:12:36.169 --> 00:12:38.889 Daniel's prayer to God. And when Gabriel comes 00:12:38.889 --> 00:12:41.450 down, he's like, hey, God immediately heard your 00:12:41.450 --> 00:12:46.250 prayer. But the power of God of Greece stopped 00:12:46.250 --> 00:12:48.929 me. So it took the archangel Michael coming and 00:12:48.929 --> 00:12:54.110 rescue me and setting me free. So we have these 00:12:54.110 --> 00:12:58.309 things. We have these lesser gods. OK, I won't 00:12:58.309 --> 00:13:00.129 go into what they do, but essentially just know 00:13:00.129 --> 00:13:04.559 at the Tower of Babel. These dudes, they rebelled. 00:13:04.720 --> 00:13:09.299 They rebelled a couple of times. And when they 00:13:09.299 --> 00:13:12.399 rebelled, God divided up the nations among these 00:13:12.399 --> 00:13:17.379 lesser gods. Stay with me. What Teuteronomy 32 00:13:17.379 --> 00:13:22.500 is saying is so each nation has their gods that 00:13:22.500 --> 00:13:24.480 they serve, which is where we get things like 00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:27.240 which would make sense on why certain areas of 00:13:27.240 --> 00:13:30.399 the world worship. uh, Mohammed and, and Islam 00:13:30.399 --> 00:13:32.220 and why you have some that are Hindu and why 00:13:32.220 --> 00:13:34.539 you have Buddhism and all these other across 00:13:34.539 --> 00:13:37.500 the world, why they do different worship, different 00:13:37.500 --> 00:13:43.000 things. So, um, so God's like here, you take 00:13:43.000 --> 00:13:45.460 the other nations of the world. You see those 00:13:45.460 --> 00:13:51.639 two old people, that really old man and that 00:13:51.639 --> 00:13:56.340 old woman. This is Genesis 12, right? I'm going 00:13:56.340 --> 00:14:01.539 to make a nation out of them. What looks to be 00:14:01.539 --> 00:14:05.240 impossible is about to become possible because 00:14:05.240 --> 00:14:11.100 of me. And every other nation will see that I 00:14:11.100 --> 00:14:14.700 am the most powerful, that I am a God who loves, 00:14:14.940 --> 00:14:17.940 that I am the creator of this world through what 00:14:17.940 --> 00:14:21.460 I do through them, through what I do through 00:14:21.460 --> 00:14:26.659 the smallest, through what I do through the most 00:14:26.730 --> 00:14:30.330 disobedient, how I love them through it, how 00:14:30.330 --> 00:14:35.590 I come and die for all of them. So it's the calling 00:14:35.590 --> 00:14:40.330 of Abraham. And so it's almost as if God is saying, 00:14:40.409 --> 00:14:44.070 if the nations won't follow me, I'll create a 00:14:44.070 --> 00:14:47.129 whole new family through whom I'll bring blessing 00:14:47.129 --> 00:14:50.490 back to all the nations. And that's the point. 00:14:51.409 --> 00:14:55.129 And so Israel wasn't chosen instead of the other 00:14:55.129 --> 00:15:00.690 nations. Israel was chosen for the nations. I'll 00:15:00.690 --> 00:15:02.909 say that one more time. Israel wasn't chosen 00:15:02.909 --> 00:15:06.269 instead of other nations. Israel was chosen for 00:15:06.269 --> 00:15:08.889 the other nations, meaning what I just said, 00:15:09.230 --> 00:15:12.710 I'm going to show what I do through those two 00:15:12.710 --> 00:15:14.409 old people. I'm going to do the impossible, and 00:15:14.409 --> 00:15:18.730 I'm going to create a people for myself. And 00:15:18.730 --> 00:15:21.590 through them, the other nations will be blessed. 00:15:23.149 --> 00:15:26.399 And so God intended Israel. to be a light to 00:15:26.399 --> 00:15:28.159 the Gentiles. Hello. Does that sound familiar? 00:15:28.379 --> 00:15:31.279 So ultimately the whole world would come to know 00:15:31.279 --> 00:15:36.580 him. Now Israel failed that mission, but where 00:15:36.580 --> 00:15:40.960 Israel failed, Jesus did what? He succeeded. 00:15:42.320 --> 00:15:45.039 So it's not like, oh, Israel failed. So now Jesus 00:15:45.039 --> 00:15:46.799 has come. No, it was all a part of the plan. 00:15:48.299 --> 00:15:52.139 All a part of the plan. Jesus is the true and 00:15:52.139 --> 00:15:57.220 faithful Israel. Through him God's promise to 00:15:57.220 --> 00:16:00.919 Abraham is fulfilled and now people from every 00:16:00.919 --> 00:16:05.639 tribe tongue and nation Can become part of God's 00:16:05.639 --> 00:16:10.720 family? One last thing being chosen wasn't just 00:16:10.720 --> 00:16:15.279 a privilege. It was a responsibility We should 00:16:15.279 --> 00:16:18.740 not forget that because that falls on us, too 00:16:18.740 --> 00:16:21.840 Israel wasn't called to reflect God's character 00:16:22.799 --> 00:16:27.320 They were to be holy because God is holy. Their 00:16:27.320 --> 00:16:31.039 election wasn't a free pass to do whatever they 00:16:31.039 --> 00:16:35.059 wanted. It was a calling to represent God before 00:16:35.059 --> 00:16:39.879 the world. And that's true for us as believers 00:16:39.879 --> 00:16:43.659 today. God has graciously called us to himself, 00:16:43.659 --> 00:16:46.779 not because we deserved it, but because he loved 00:16:46.779 --> 00:16:50.090 us. And now we have the privilege and the responsibility 00:16:50.090 --> 00:16:54.590 of living lives that point others to Him. So 00:16:54.590 --> 00:16:57.210 why did God choose Israel? Not because they were 00:16:57.210 --> 00:17:02.149 great, but because He is. Because of His grace, 00:17:02.389 --> 00:17:06.470 He created a people through whom He would eventually 00:17:06.470 --> 00:17:09.349 bring salvation to the entire world. And that's 00:17:09.349 --> 00:17:11.150 the story of the Bible. Isn't that incredible? 00:17:12.289 --> 00:17:15.309 Well, I hope that was helpful.
