It's God's talking, then Habakkuk talks, 00:04:30.019 --> 00:04:32.019 and then God talks again, and they're going back 00:04:32.019 --> 00:04:34.019 and forth. It's like an inside look into his 00:04:34.019 --> 00:04:39.120 prayer life. So he starts out with that question 00:04:39.120 --> 00:04:41.540 of like, where are you God? Like people are dying 00:04:41.540 --> 00:04:44.120 of famine. I'm watching people get murdered. 00:04:44.480 --> 00:04:48.610 We are going, you know, like We're stuck in between 00:04:48.610 --> 00:04:52.310 warring countries. We have a wicked king. We 00:04:52.310 --> 00:04:54.750 have a wicked leader in Jehoiakim who is doing 00:04:54.750 --> 00:04:57.810 wicked things inside your temple. And I would write songs for my 00:06:05.480 --> 00:06:09.490 beautiful wife all the time. didn't sing very 00:06:09.490 --> 00:06:11.930 well so my wife would be like the lyrics are 00:06:11.930 --> 00:06:17.410 very nice and but I would always just be playing 00:06:17.410 --> 00:06:20.129 well when I would find myself in a place of just 00:06:20.129 --> 00:06:25.250 kind of a spiritual depression or tough times 00:06:25.250 --> 00:06:28.430 we were foster parents at one time on this on 00:06:28.430 --> 00:06:31.870 this ranch and we had ten teenage boys that we 00:06:31.870 --> 00:06:35.480 had to take care of And when we just, we just 00:06:35.480 --> 00:06:38.379 experienced a lot of like spiritual warfare during 00:06:38.379 --> 00:06:41.860 that time. And so I would literally grab my guitar 00:06:41.860 --> 00:06:44.500 and I would just go out into the cow pasture 00:06:44.500 --> 00:06:47.480 and just be out there with my Bible and my guitar. 00:06:47.519 --> 00:06:51.519 And I would just read scripture and I would sing 00:06:51.519 --> 00:06:54.439 scripture just me and the Lord. And it was like 00:06:54.439 --> 00:06:57.980 therapeutic for me to have this time of just 00:06:57.980 --> 00:07:00.740 singing. And it's a good thing it was just me. 00:07:00.910 --> 00:07:04.589 And only the Lord would say it was a joyful noise. 00:07:05.170 --> 00:07:06.550 That's what he would say. He wouldn't say it 00:07:06.550 --> 00:07:07.910 was great. He would just say it was a joyful 00:07:07.910 --> 00:07:12.670 noise. But the thing about it was is that the 00:07:12.670 --> 00:07:16.410 foster boys knew, they'd be like, where's Logan? 00:07:16.829 --> 00:07:19.350 And they'd be like, oh, he just went out into 00:07:19.350 --> 00:07:22.769 the pasture. And they knew what that meant. I 00:07:22.769 --> 00:07:25.569 was kind of going through my own struggle, and 00:07:25.569 --> 00:07:27.509 I just needed to go out there and voice it to 00:07:27.509 --> 00:07:31.050 the Lord. And so we're going to unpack. why it's 00:07:31.050 --> 00:07:34.370 important that you sing and why you also need 00:07:34.370 --> 00:07:36.529 to partner it with Scripture. But I want you 00:07:36.529 --> 00:07:39.529 to know that I've practiced this myself. And 00:07:39.529 --> 00:07:42.689 you should too. You may be like, I don't play 00:07:42.689 --> 00:07:44.730 an instrument, I play the radio. That's okay, 00:07:45.029 --> 00:07:48.949 turn the radio on, sing, whatever. But it's important 00:07:48.949 --> 00:07:53.490 that you do that. And we see in chapter three, 00:07:53.569 --> 00:07:57.779 we see Habakkuk. is going to sing a song. So 00:07:57.779 --> 00:08:00.300 last week we talked about how God sings a song, 00:08:00.439 --> 00:08:03.220 right? He sings this mocking song that they are 00:08:03.220 --> 00:08:06.560 meant to sing in a time of trouble and to get 00:08:06.560 --> 00:08:09.540 them through and he is mocking Babylon with this 00:08:09.540 --> 00:08:14.920 song. Well, now we move to Habakkuk is now going 00:08:14.920 --> 00:08:17.800 to sing a song. He's going to be that little 00:08:17.800 --> 00:08:22.079 rock star Logan in the cow pasture singing a 00:08:22.079 --> 00:08:26.100 song back to God. And I want you to know, his 00:08:26.100 --> 00:08:29.500 circumstances don't change. It's him that changes. 00:08:30.360 --> 00:08:32.440 Because God doesn't give him this like, oh, never 00:08:32.440 --> 00:08:41.220 mind. So here we go. If we read in Habakkuk chapter 00:08:41.220 --> 00:08:46.580 3, a prayer of the prophet Habakkuk, according 00:08:46.580 --> 00:08:54.200 to Shiga Neoth, that is actually a really Interesting 00:08:54.200 --> 00:08:57.500 word. It's a Hebrew word that just means a prayer 00:08:57.500 --> 00:09:02.120 song It's a psalm that actually is to you We 00:09:02.120 --> 00:09:04.100 only see it twice in scripture one is in psalm 00:09:04.100 --> 00:09:07.960 7 and then the other is here and it means A song 00:09:07.960 --> 00:09:10.279 from your heart that when you are in the in an 00:09:10.279 --> 00:09:14.759 utter place of despair is what that is and so 00:09:14.759 --> 00:09:17.639 Some may say some of your translations may say 00:09:17.639 --> 00:09:21.379 on But it's not a physical. It's not a physical 00:09:21.379 --> 00:09:25.399 place It is a song from the heart. And then so 00:09:25.399 --> 00:09:27.460 here is what Habakkuk says. He says, Lord, I 00:09:27.460 --> 00:09:30.659 have heard the report about you. Lord, I stand 00:09:30.659 --> 00:09:34.240 in awe of your deeds. Revive your work in these 00:09:34.240 --> 00:09:36.620 years. Make it known in these years. In your 00:09:36.620 --> 00:09:39.860 wrath, remember mercy. And so let's just pause 00:09:39.860 --> 00:09:42.820 for a second. And so see, he's now living in 00:09:42.820 --> 00:09:46.179 a place of faith instead of by sight. So he's. 00:09:46.159 --> 00:09:48.899 He's moving on from, Lord, what are you doing 00:09:48.899 --> 00:09:51.000 and where are you at, to now he's going to begin 00:09:51.000 --> 00:09:54.200 to sing a song to God. And he's like, I'm no 00:09:54.200 --> 00:09:56.500 longer going to look at what I see. I'm just 00:09:56.500 --> 00:09:59.399 going to live by faith. And so if you're taking 00:09:59.399 --> 00:10:01.519 notes, the core of what we're going to unpack 00:10:01.519 --> 00:10:04.600 today is what it means to live by faith. But 00:10:04.600 --> 00:10:07.419 he keeps climbing higher up the mountain of faith. 00:10:07.600 --> 00:10:10.159 And when we climb up the mountain of faith, it's 00:10:10.159 --> 00:10:15.220 not easy, OK? I want you to know that. When you 00:10:15.220 --> 00:10:18.809 decide I'm going to start living what it means 00:10:18.809 --> 00:10:21.730 to live by faith, and I'm going to take God at 00:10:21.730 --> 00:10:24.370 His Word, and I'm going to draw closer to Him. 00:10:24.809 --> 00:10:28.710 Things don't get easier. But if you're drawing closer 00:10:42.350 --> 00:10:46.830 to the Lord, the Lord makes it easier. And so what took Habakkuk 00:11:18.779 --> 00:11:22.899 from the valley to the summit? It's going to 00:11:22.899 --> 00:11:24.480 be three spiritual disciplines that we're going 00:11:24.480 --> 00:11:27.700 to unpack. Those same spiritual disciplines will 00:11:27.700 --> 00:11:29.500 take you there as well. And so there's three, 00:11:29.620 --> 00:11:31.539 like I said. So here we go. Here's the first 00:11:31.539 --> 00:11:38.559 one. When we read verses one and two, what do 00:11:38.559 --> 00:11:43.860 you see him doing? What's the first spiritual 00:11:43.860 --> 00:11:47.620 discipline you see him doing? Prayer. So what 00:11:47.620 --> 00:11:51.000 I have for my first point is prayer. Pray for 00:11:51.000 --> 00:11:54.980 the work of God. So this chapter is known as 00:11:54.980 --> 00:11:58.379 a prayer psalm and Habakkuk has moved from arguing 00:11:58.379 --> 00:12:02.320 with God to praise and worship. He prays because 00:12:02.320 --> 00:12:08.539 now he's heard God speak. He now knows God's 00:12:08.539 --> 00:12:11.480 will. It's not what he would have chose, but 00:12:11.480 --> 00:12:15.639 he knows God is trustworthy so Listen there can 00:12:15.639 --> 00:12:17.740 be those times when you're struggling in faith 00:12:17.740 --> 00:12:20.460 or struggling in life and not sure of what's 00:12:20.460 --> 00:12:23.580 next But when God speaks and you may be saying 00:12:23.580 --> 00:12:27.120 well, I don't know when God speaks Well, I'm 00:12:27.120 --> 00:12:29.000 gonna I'm gonna give you a cheat code. So, knowing God's will, should motivate 00:16:22.519 --> 00:16:25.539 us to pray, thy will be done. Even when God is 00:16:25.539 --> 00:16:27.980 speaking to you and confirming things that just 00:16:27.980 --> 00:16:31.259 like Habakkuk, when God says, yes, I am answering 00:16:31.259 --> 00:16:34.179 you, Habakkuk, but the problem is what I'm sending 00:16:34.179 --> 00:16:37.360 is the Babylonians. And he says they're way more 00:16:37.360 --> 00:16:39.840 wicked than what we're already experiencing. 00:16:39.899 --> 00:16:41.259 And God goes, yeah, I know I'm going to take 00:16:41.259 --> 00:16:46.460 care of them too. We still should pray thy will 00:16:46.460 --> 00:16:51.039 be done. Even when it's not what you want. Because 00:16:51.039 --> 00:16:53.539 here's the thing spoiler alert.
