But to start 00:01:38.260 --> 00:01:39.959 things off today, like I said, I wanted to just 00:01:39.959 --> 00:01:42.620 kind of do a little recap of Habakkuk chapters 00:01:42.620 --> 00:01:46.019 one and two. And essentially, the entire book 00:01:46.019 --> 00:01:48.640 of Habakkuk, which is a short book, as we've 00:01:48.640 --> 00:01:55.439 discovered, is Habakkuk making a complaint about 00:01:55.519 --> 00:01:57.599 the wickedness going on around him. Now, I want 00:01:57.599 --> 00:01:59.900 to remind you when the Charlie Kirk stuff happened, 00:02:00.239 --> 00:02:03.980 I felt like we needed to pivot and unpack the 00:02:03.980 --> 00:02:07.739 Book of Habakkuk. And so it's a powerful short 00:02:07.739 --> 00:02:10.080 book. And a lot of people skip over it because 00:02:10.080 --> 00:02:11.819 they feel like maybe it's not relevant or maybe 00:02:11.819 --> 00:02:15.060 they don't understand what's going on. But he 00:02:15.060 --> 00:02:18.259 starts out with this cry of, oh, Lord, how long 00:02:18.259 --> 00:02:20.580 shall I cry out for help? And you will not hear 00:02:20.580 --> 00:02:23.000 and. I've been talking about with you guys like 00:02:23.000 --> 00:02:25.379 how many times have we been in that space where 00:02:25.379 --> 00:02:28.740 something's going on whether whether it's a divorce 00:02:28.740 --> 00:02:32.780 or whether it's a Loss of a loved one or it's 00:02:32.780 --> 00:02:35.919 a diagnosis or it's a financial thing. It's it 00:02:35.919 --> 00:02:38.620 can be a lot of different things It's it essentially 00:02:38.620 --> 00:02:42.240 it's just chaos like in our life or we see injustice 00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:48.050 like the Charlie Kirk murder or we see genocides 00:02:48.050 --> 00:02:49.650 and we see a lot of different things throughout 00:02:49.650 --> 00:02:52.789 our lifetime war. If you were a soldier, maybe 00:02:52.789 --> 00:02:56.490 like you've seen some injustice happening and 00:02:56.490 --> 00:02:59.169 and that is placed in us by God, by the way, 00:02:59.189 --> 00:03:01.669 when we see injustice and we see wrongs and they're 00:03:01.669 --> 00:03:06.349 not being righted. We it's been placed in us 00:03:06.349 --> 00:03:08.129 to know that that's wrong and that there should 00:03:08.129 --> 00:03:10.870 be justice happening. And that's because God 00:03:10.870 --> 00:03:14.090 is a god of justice. He is justice. And so therefore 00:03:14.090 --> 00:03:20.389 we, too, feel that discomfort of injustice and 00:03:20.389 --> 00:03:22.569 wanting to see violence come to an end, wanting 00:03:22.569 --> 00:03:27.469 to see injustice come to an end, wanting to see 00:03:27.469 --> 00:03:29.830 evil vanquished, all of those things. That's 00:03:29.830 --> 00:03:32.689 why we love stories of evil being vanquished 00:03:32.689 --> 00:03:35.650 and all of those things. But what's beautiful 00:03:35.650 --> 00:03:39.819 about the book is that God answers him but he 00:03:39.819 --> 00:03:42.139 answers in a way that Habakkuk does not expect 00:03:42.139 --> 00:03:44.580 nor does Habakkuk like and he says I am doing 00:03:44.580 --> 00:03:47.699 a work in your days that you wouldn't believe 00:03:47.699 --> 00:03:51.000 if I told you now that it gets put on a coffee 00:03:51.000 --> 00:03:55.419 cup or a t -shirt all the time and and honestly, 00:03:55.500 --> 00:04:00.460 it's it's kind of craziness because God is essentially 00:04:00.460 --> 00:04:02.900 saying I'm doing a work, but you're not gonna 00:04:02.900 --> 00:04:06.120 like it and essentially what he's what he says 00:04:06.120 --> 00:04:09.770 and if you've been with us um, these past couple 00:04:09.770 --> 00:04:11.810 of weeks is he's like, Hey, I'm going to send 00:04:11.810 --> 00:04:13.810 the Babylonians because they had been under, 00:04:13.810 --> 00:04:17.110 uh, rule and different things of, uh, as far 00:04:17.110 --> 00:04:21.759 as Israel and Habakkuk is in Judah. But Israel 00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:24.259 has already gone into exile and and he's seeing 00:04:24.259 --> 00:04:26.439 famine and he's seeing people die and he's seeing 00:04:26.439 --> 00:04:28.980 a lot of evil happening and he's seeing things 00:04:28.980 --> 00:04:32.100 inside you to where Jehoiakim is an evil leader 00:04:32.100 --> 00:04:34.540 and he's been placed there by Egypt and and he's 00:04:34.540 --> 00:04:36.720 like Lord you need to do something about this 00:04:36.720 --> 00:04:40.079 and he's like I am and I'm sending the Babylonians 00:04:40.079 --> 00:04:42.899 and he's like the Babylonians like I hear that 00:04:42.899 --> 00:04:45.639 there's the you know, they're bad dudes and they 00:04:45.639 --> 00:04:49.259 are bad dudes. They're very very evil and He's 00:04:49.259 --> 00:04:52.360 like what? Why? You should deal with this, not 00:04:52.360 --> 00:04:55.240 send more evil. And if you want to know everything 00:04:55.240 --> 00:04:57.439 that happens in that time, you can read the book 00:04:57.439 --> 00:05:00.220 of Daniel, you can read Habakkuk, you can read 00:05:00.220 --> 00:05:02.959 Jeremiah, you can read Isaiah. Isaiah prophesies 00:05:02.959 --> 00:05:05.480 about this coming, and then Jeremiah and Daniel 00:05:05.480 --> 00:05:08.519 both talk about those times of exile with the 00:05:08.519 --> 00:05:12.500 Babylonians. But what's at the heart of chapters 00:05:12.500 --> 00:05:17.029 one and two is God reminding His people that 00:05:17.029 --> 00:05:20.529 he is at work, no matter the chaos going on around 00:05:20.529 --> 00:05:25.509 us. He's like, you may not even understand how 00:05:25.509 --> 00:05:28.550 and why and what I'm doing, but I am at work. 00:05:28.810 --> 00:05:31.730 And God says, the righteous shall live by faith. 00:05:32.529 --> 00:05:34.589 And that's the important part of what we have 00:05:34.589 --> 00:05:37.410 to remember is that that's one of the most important 00:05:37.410 --> 00:05:39.329 lines in all of scripture. It's quoted in Romans, 00:05:39.490 --> 00:05:42.209 Galatians, and in Hebrews. And it means that 00:05:42.209 --> 00:05:45.600 even when things feel upside down, God calls 00:05:45.600 --> 00:05:48.920 his people to trust him. Not because we can see 00:05:48.920 --> 00:05:51.139 the plan, but because we know his character. 00:05:51.180 --> 00:05:54.259 We know what he's about and who he is. And so 00:05:54.259 --> 00:05:57.500 Habakkuk teaches us to move from fear to faith 00:05:57.500 --> 00:06:01.500 and from complaint to confidence. Because Habakkuk 00:06:01.500 --> 00:06:04.560 starts his whole book going, do you see this? 00:06:04.579 --> 00:06:06.120 And then he's like, why do you make me look at 00:06:06.120 --> 00:06:11.639 this, right? And so with that being said, Habakkuk 00:06:12.570 --> 00:06:17.089 reminds us to live by faith. And that's the biggest 00:06:17.089 --> 00:06:19.769 thing. So as you're on your journey that we're 00:06:19.769 --> 00:06:22.589 all on, as you're walking through life and life 00:06:22.589 --> 00:06:25.910 gets messy, learning to trust God in the waiting, 00:06:26.449 --> 00:06:29.069 to believe that He's doing something good, even 00:06:29.069 --> 00:06:32.129 when you can't see it yet. So that's essentially 00:06:32.129 --> 00:06:34.410 the first two chapters. And we're going to get 00:06:34.410 --> 00:06:38.389 ready to unpack chapter three this week. And 00:06:38.389 --> 00:06:41.500 so I hope this was helpful to you.
