What is DCSEAC? === Meredith Daly: [00:00:00] Hey everyone and welcome to Special Ed IEPs, 504, Oh my: Conversations with DCSEAC. I'm Meredith and I'm a board member, today our chair, she's gonna tell you about DCSEAC. Aleia Mastroianni: Yes, it's quite a mouthful. It stands for Douglas County Special Education Advisory Committee. Obviously we don't want to say that. So we say DCSEAC. We're gonna say that a lot. We are a volunteer nonprofit. We are all parents who have children in this school district who are served by special education services. And we're actually part of the Colorado Department of Education. CDE. And they would like every district to have a special education advisory committee or SEAC. We are for DC. We serve in two functions. Our first function, we work as an advisory committee to our leadership in special education. We have a board meeting with them every other month where we [00:01:00] talk about issues, or wins, or things we want to work on within special education and get their feedback and updates. It's a cool information loop that we're able to create between parents and leadership, and we're able to bring questions that we get from you, from our podcast, from our connections groups, different areas, we're able to bring things we hear about in schools or from teachers. The second portion of what DCSEAC does affects you, parents; our mission is to get information to you. We all know; you always feel like you're missing something, that the information is just hitting your face nonstop and you can't figure it all out. We're trying to help, through our connections groups or support groups, for our AN program, our SSN program. We also do this through teacher appreciation events like Shining Star. Please help us every February you do shining star nominations online. We'll do larger information sessions, so don't miss us on October [00:02:00] 22nd when we're going to do one called Roadmap to Special Education in DCSD, and we're just going to go through the whole continuum of services for parents so they can understand what it looks like. So if you want, come meet us there. But in a nutshell, that's DCSEAC. If you want to learn more, we have a website, we have socials. We're all over the place. But really we're here to serve parents and help them better understand how to help their child navigate the process of special education. Meredith Daly: Thank you for joining us. If you want to learn more about DCSEAC, you can find us at dcseac.org. If you like our podcast, go ahead and share. If you have more questions or suggestions for us, definitely send 'em to info@dcseac.org. Thanks for joining and we hope that you join us for future conversations. Bye bye bye.
