But he constantly 00:18:22.769 --> 00:18:25.349 had to be on the run. He constantly had to be 00:18:25.349 --> 00:18:28.069 on the lookout because of a backslidden king 00:18:28.069 --> 00:18:30.950 by the name of Saul who hunted his life. But 00:18:30.950 --> 00:18:33.349 eventually David. David got tired of running. 00:18:33.410 --> 00:18:36.309 David got tired of hiding. And so he went down 00:18:36.309 --> 00:18:39.849 to the enemy's camp. He went down to the Philistines. 00:18:39.869 --> 00:18:42.710 And even though he had favor with the king, the 00:18:42.710 --> 00:18:45.210 military men of the Philistines did not trust 00:18:45.210 --> 00:18:47.650 David. They said, this is the one that Saul, 00:18:47.869 --> 00:18:50.569 they sing about that Saul has slain his thousands. 00:18:50.829 --> 00:18:53.769 But David, his 10 ,000, they convinced the king 00:18:53.769 --> 00:18:56.670 of the Philistines that David could not live 00:18:56.670 --> 00:18:59.430 among them. And so the Bible tells us that David 00:18:59.430 --> 00:19:02.000 and those who had joined themselves, with him, 00:19:02.039 --> 00:19:04.759 amen, live near the Philistines. They did not 00:19:04.759 --> 00:19:07.460 live with the Philistines, but they lived close 00:19:07.460 --> 00:19:10.660 to them. They never had to fight against their 00:19:10.660 --> 00:19:13.319 own people. They never had to fight against the 00:19:13.319 --> 00:19:17.160 people of God, but they almost did because there 00:19:17.160 --> 00:19:20.759 came a time, amen, when David had convinced the 00:19:20.759 --> 00:19:23.240 king of the Philistines that he was loyal. And 00:19:23.240 --> 00:19:26.339 they came against Israel that David and his men 00:19:26.339 --> 00:19:28.859 reported for duty. But once again, the military 00:19:28.859 --> 00:19:30.980 men of the Philistines said, no, this is David. 00:19:31.140 --> 00:19:33.920 This is the one who has defeated us before. He's 00:19:33.920 --> 00:19:35.740 going to turn and fight for God's people. He's 00:19:35.740 --> 00:19:38.200 anointed of God. Amen. Don't you dare allow him 00:19:38.200 --> 00:19:40.019 to come fight with us. And so the Bible says 00:19:40.019 --> 00:19:43.339 that the king of the Philistines sent David back 00:19:43.339 --> 00:19:46.019 home and his men and scriptures tell us that 00:19:46.019 --> 00:19:48.460 David and his squadron of men went back home 00:19:48.460 --> 00:19:51.839 to Ziglag where they have been living. However, 00:19:52.099 --> 00:19:55.420 tragically, when they went back home, when they 00:19:55.420 --> 00:19:58.470 arrived, they saw. Plumes of smoke billowing 00:19:58.470 --> 00:20:01.289 from their homes that were burning. Worse than 00:20:01.289 --> 00:20:03.750 that, their wives and their children have been 00:20:03.750 --> 00:20:07.130 taken hostage by the Amalekites. The Amalekites 00:20:07.130 --> 00:20:10.410 were those who Saul had failed to defeat. And 00:20:10.410 --> 00:20:13.390 now they had taken, amen, the wives and the children, 00:20:13.549 --> 00:20:15.849 amen, of these mighty men. And when the Bible 00:20:15.849 --> 00:20:18.690 says that David and his bravehearted men saw 00:20:18.690 --> 00:20:22.029 what had happened. When they saw that their children 00:20:22.029 --> 00:20:24.509 were missing, that their wives were gone. Not 00:20:24.509 --> 00:20:26.970 just their homes that were burning. Bible says 00:20:26.970 --> 00:20:30.009 that they lifted up their voices and they began 00:20:30.009 --> 00:20:34.450 to weep until they had no more power to weep 00:20:34.450 --> 00:20:36.950 but verse number six of first Samuel chapter 00:20:36.950 --> 00:20:40.970 30 tells us that in David's dilemma he how he 00:20:40.970 --> 00:20:44.150 dealt with his crisis the scriptures tell us 00:20:44.150 --> 00:20:49.869 that David was greatly distressed he was at a 00:20:49.869 --> 00:20:53.630 low point He was as far down and at rock bottom 00:20:53.630 --> 00:20:58.369 as far as you can go. He was greatly distressed 00:20:58.369 --> 00:21:02.849 for the people spoke of stoning him because the 00:21:02.849 --> 00:21:06.089 soul of all the men were grieved and every man 00:21:06.089 --> 00:21:11.130 for his sons and for his daughters. David encouraged 00:21:11.130 --> 00:21:15.369 himself in the Lord, his God. All of a sudden, 00:21:15.390 --> 00:21:18.029 David began to remember what God had did for 00:21:18.029 --> 00:21:20.950 him in the past. And he began to encourage himself, 00:21:21.170 --> 00:21:23.730 even though he was faced, amen, with the crisis. 00:21:23.950 --> 00:21:27.430 Amen. He began to look into his future and understanding 00:21:27.430 --> 00:21:30.049 that God had a plan and a purpose for his life. 00:21:30.150 --> 00:21:33.849 And so he found faith and courage to arise in 00:21:33.849 --> 00:21:37.049 the midst of his crisis. This is what the apostle Paul 00:24:24.180 --> 00:24:28.400 had to do when he was being held in prison. He 00:24:28.400 --> 00:24:30.519 was locked up, but he was not locked out of the 00:24:30.519 --> 00:24:33.980 presence of God. He had to encourage himself 00:24:33.980 --> 00:24:37.279 in the Lord. He had to remind himself that God 00:24:37.279 --> 00:24:41.259 ultimately had a plan. And when he was given 00:24:41.259 --> 00:24:44.400 a chance to defend himself before the king of 00:24:44.400 --> 00:24:47.740 that time, King Agrippa, in the high court, he 00:24:47.740 --> 00:24:50.880 declared these words in Acts chapter 26. He said 00:24:50.880 --> 00:24:54.960 to the king, I think myself happy today, King 00:24:54.960 --> 00:24:58.000 Agrippa. Because I shall answer for myself this 00:24:58.000 --> 00:25:01.539 day before thee, touching all the things whereof 00:25:01.539 --> 00:25:05.390 I am accused of the Jewish leadership. He said, 00:25:05.470 --> 00:25:08.349 I've been encouraging myself in the Lord. Amen. 00:25:08.410 --> 00:25:10.750 The enemy has tried to keep me down and depressed 00:25:10.750 --> 00:25:13.309 and despondent. I've been locked up. I've been 00:25:13.309 --> 00:25:16.609 shackled. I've been held tight. Amen. But I think 00:25:16.609 --> 00:25:20.349 myself happy today. I refuse to allow my circumstances 00:25:20.349 --> 00:25:24.049 and my situation to keep me down. But I remember 00:25:24.049 --> 00:25:27.329 what hath God wrought. I remember what God has 00:25:27.329 --> 00:25:30.150 done for me. And because of where he has brought 00:25:30.150 --> 00:25:32.289 me from, let me tell you about it, King Agrippa. 00:25:32.490 --> 00:25:35.029 And the Bible says that Paul, began to spread 00:25:35.029 --> 00:25:37.950 the gospel by sharing his testimony. He remembered 00:25:37.950 --> 00:25:41.069 what God had did in his life and how the Lord 00:25:41.069 --> 00:25:43.970 had saved him and how, amen, he had transformed 00:25:43.970 --> 00:25:47.589 his life. And so Paul retells his story for all 00:25:47.589 --> 00:25:51.470 to hear as Paul declares the death, the burial, 00:25:51.529 --> 00:25:53.549 and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, 00:25:53.690 --> 00:25:56.450 Jesus Christ, and how he saw him on the road 00:25:56.450 --> 00:26:00.210 to Damascus. All of a sudden, the Roman governor 00:26:00.210 --> 00:26:06.269 speaks up and he calls Paul, But Paul doesn't 00:26:06.269 --> 00:26:08.269 miss a beat in declaring what God has done in 00:26:08.269 --> 00:26:12.069 his life. But he says in verses 24 and 29, as 00:26:12.069 --> 00:26:15.509 Paul spoke for himself, Festus said with a loud 00:26:15.509 --> 00:26:19.710 voice, Paul, you are beside yourself. Much learning 00:26:19.710 --> 00:26:23.299 has made you mad. You're crazy, Paul. But he 00:26:23.299 --> 00:26:26.759 said, I'm not mad. I'm not crazy. I'm not mad. 00:26:26.759 --> 00:26:30.319 And I'm not mad at you, most noble Festus. But 00:26:30.319 --> 00:26:32.839 I speak forth the words of truth and soberness. 00:26:32.920 --> 00:26:36.099 For the king knows of these things before whom 00:26:36.099 --> 00:26:40.099 I also speak freely. For I am persuaded that 00:26:40.099 --> 00:26:42.240 none of these things are hidden from him. For 00:26:42.240 --> 00:26:45.980 this thing was not done in a corner.
