Remember, building a hybrid school isn’t just about creating a business or jobs; it’s about reshaping the education landscape, one community at a time. **Foundational Groundwork: Planning Your Facility** In Season One, we focused on planning, budgeting, market validation, and aspects of nonprofits and costs. This season, we’ll concentrate on hitting the ground running. By now, you should have validated your market and feel good about the opportunity ahead. You’ve likely done some facility searching because your budget should be aligned, and people are showing interest. If you’ve established a basic model, ensured costs are accounted for, and tested the market, then you’re ready to move forward. I am also developing a course that might interest you if you’re at this stage. This course covers everything from facility agreements to admissions and hiring. If interested, please visit my website or email me to be part of this test run. **Securing Your Facility: Agreement Essentials** One of the first tasks when committing to your plan is securing a facility. I’ve previously discussed looking for a facility and working with a church. This advice applies whether you’re drafting an informal agreement or pursuing a commercial lease. **Clarity in Agreements** When sharing a facility, like with a church or youth camp, clarity is key. Avoid misunderstandings by documenting: - **Who You Are and What You Do**: Clearly state your identity, how often you meet, and access requirements. - **Space Allocation**: Explicitly name access points like closets and doors. Discuss accessible areas, storage, and classroom setups. - **Financial and Maintenance Responsibilities**: Outline payment expectations, how and when changes are communicated, cleaning responsibilities, and who to contact during emergencies. **Safety and Operations** Ensure clarity in: - **Safety Protocols**: Determine if clearances are needed for others in the building. - **Communication**: Identify contact persons for both sides to prevent miscommunication. Write everything down and ensure everyone has easy access to the agreement. Expect proactive communication—consistently. **Considerations for Independent Facilities** If the facility is solely yours, many considerations apply, but without sharing complexities. Whether it’s locking doors or setting up spaces, define them clearly. **Preparing for the Future** Discuss notice periods for contract termination well in advance. This foresight helps maintain stability and aids in planning. Typically, a minimum one-year agreement is best, with longer terms providing greater security. Remember, while informal agreements might not hold up as legal leases, documenting everything helps smooth the process. So, have those conversations, reiterate agreements, and develop clear paths forward. Thank you for joining me today. Don’t forget to subscribe and explore resources at startahybridschool.com.
