Title: Building a Hybrid School: My Journey and Vision Introduction Hello and welcome to the Hybrid School Builders Podcast. I am Rebecca Foley, your host, and a grassroots founder passionate about facilitating your journey toward establishing a sustainable hybrid school. If you're dreaming of starting a hybrid school or are already on the path, you're in the right place. Through real stories and practical tips, I aim to boost your confidence in launching and growing your program. My Background in Education I grew up in Western New York and had an unconventional schooling experience. I attended various small Christian schools, public school, and even had a stint as a homeschooler. This patchwork of educational experiences fostered my ability to think outside the box regarding schooling solutions. I have always been passionate about learning, which laid the foundation for my desire to create educational opportunities where students can enjoy learning as much as I did. Educational Journey and Inspirations My initial foray into higher education was a community college, where I eventually discovered a passion for economics. After completing my bachelor's degree, I pursued further studies at Lehigh University, obtaining a master's in both economics and educational leadership. These academic pursuits nurtured my interest in educational systems and fueled my ambition to start a school. Founding the Hybrid School The inspiration for my hybrid school model arose when my children reached school age, and I couldn't find an educational solution that met our needs. Along with other parents who shared similar sentiments, we explored the possibility of part-time school options. Our small group started with a co-op, which grew into a formalized hybrid school model. Challenges and Growth Founding the school involved numerous challenges, from legal paperwork to budgeting and recruitment. Despite these hurdles, we pressed forward, learning and adapting as we expanded the program. Over the years, the school has grown significantly, supporting over 200 students and employing more than 20 staff members. Learning and Adjustments Along the journey, I faced personal challenges, including balancing work with my role as a mother. These experiences underscored the importance of creating a sustainable organizational structure within the school. I've learned valuable lessons about budgeting, valuing one's work, and the critical role community support plays in sustaining educational initiatives. Vision for the Future My vision is to empower others to establish hybrid programs by providing resources and advice based on my experiences. I believe hybrids offering two or three-day schooling with a robust educational model can significantly impact communities. By sharing my journey, insights, and strategic resources, I aim to support entrepreneurs eager to venture into the world of hybrid education.
