How did he talk? 00:00:09.300 --> 00:00:11.980 We've been looking for the way of Jesus in the 00:00:11.980 --> 00:00:15.300 Gospel of Luke, the good news account of Luke. 00:00:15.500 --> 00:00:19.300 And today we're talking about... The powerful 00:00:19.300 --> 00:00:22.079 way of Jesus. You know, I feel like the last 00:00:22.079 --> 00:00:24.179 couple of weeks I've been challenging you a lot. 00:00:24.820 --> 00:00:27.399 There's been a lot of, you know, we need to do 00:00:27.399 --> 00:00:31.280 and we need to be type of things, messages. But 00:00:31.280 --> 00:00:35.240 today, this one is one that is not necessarily 00:00:35.240 --> 00:00:39.079 a challenge for you to do something, but more 00:00:39.079 --> 00:00:42.619 of a challenge to trust in something. And so 00:00:42.619 --> 00:00:45.159 what I mean by that is we're going to be talking 00:00:45.159 --> 00:00:47.859 about, as we did last week, the authority of 00:00:47.859 --> 00:00:51.859 Jesus, but not just his authority over law, his 00:00:51.859 --> 00:00:54.600 authority over tradition and scripture. We're 00:00:54.600 --> 00:00:59.600 talking about his rule, his power over all creation. 00:01:01.229 --> 00:01:03.530 And this is important because if we misunderstand 00:01:03.530 --> 00:01:06.870 the power, the power of Jesus, the power that 00:01:06.870 --> 00:01:09.750 he possesses, the power that he has, that he 00:01:09.750 --> 00:01:12.450 has always had, if we misunderstand that power, 00:01:12.629 --> 00:01:15.230 we will misunderstand how to follow him. And 00:01:15.230 --> 00:01:18.230 what I mean by that is I think for far too long 00:01:18.230 --> 00:01:21.329 the church and Christians have tried to just 00:01:21.329 --> 00:01:24.930 like make Jesus just the Jesus of the book, the 00:01:24.930 --> 00:01:27.189 one that's on the paper, just the words of Jesus. 00:01:27.269 --> 00:01:30.069 And we've intellectualized being a follower of 00:01:30.069 --> 00:01:33.090 Jesus. have taken out the spiritual aspect of 00:01:33.090 --> 00:01:36.469 it, the power that Jesus possesses and the power 00:01:36.469 --> 00:01:42.329 that Jesus has entrusted to us. And so I want 00:01:42.329 --> 00:01:47.689 us to understand the power of our king. Because 00:01:47.689 --> 00:01:51.189 if we can understand just how powerful he is, 00:01:51.370 --> 00:01:54.810 then the things of this world will not seem as 00:01:54.810 --> 00:01:59.269 depressing. They won't seem as terrifying. We'll 00:01:59.269 --> 00:02:02.030 be able to hear rumors of wars and we won't fear. 00:02:02.250 --> 00:02:04.549 We'll be able to deal with the stresses of life 00:02:04.549 --> 00:02:07.489 and we won't collapse because we know who our 00:02:07.489 --> 00:02:11.789 king is and we know his power. And if we can 00:02:11.789 --> 00:02:16.550 trust in his power, then we will be able to fully 00:02:16.550 --> 00:02:20.629 obey regardless of what circumstances come. So 00:02:20.629 --> 00:02:24.389 let's start today in Luke chapter 8, starting 00:02:24.389 --> 00:02:28.539 in verse 22. In Luke 8, verse 22, and remember 00:02:28.539 --> 00:02:30.400 if it's underlined, I want you to read it with 00:02:30.400 --> 00:02:32.800 me, and it may be a little hard to see, so just 00:02:32.800 --> 00:02:34.860 if you hear other people start talking out loud, 00:02:34.979 --> 00:02:38.060 you also start reading out loud, okay? One day 00:02:38.060 --> 00:02:40.560 he got into a boat with his disciples, and he 00:02:40.560 --> 00:02:42.659 said to them, let us go across to the other side 00:02:42.659 --> 00:02:45.539 of the lake. So they set out, and as they sailed, 00:02:45.560 --> 00:02:48.800 he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on 00:02:48.800 --> 00:02:50.780 the lake, and they were filling with water and 00:02:50.780 --> 00:02:53.099 were in danger. And they went and woke him, saying, 00:02:53.319 --> 00:02:57.319 Master, Master, we are perishing. And he awoke, 00:02:57.319 --> 00:02:59.300 and he rebuked the wind and the raging waves, 00:02:59.360 --> 00:03:01.960 and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he 00:03:01.960 --> 00:03:05.539 said to them, Where is your faith? And they were 00:03:05.539 --> 00:03:08.199 afraid. And they marveled, saying to one another, 00:03:08.340 --> 00:03:11.639 Who then is this that he commands even winds 00:03:11.639 --> 00:03:17.139 and water, and they obey him? I want us to read 00:03:17.139 --> 00:03:20.939 that last question that the disciples asked out 00:03:20.939 --> 00:03:24.400 loud. And so read this with me. Who then is this 00:03:24.400 --> 00:03:28.020 that he commands even winds and water and they 00:03:28.020 --> 00:03:31.400 obey him? You see, that's not just a random question. 00:03:31.539 --> 00:03:33.900 It's kind of the hinge of this whole section 00:03:33.900 --> 00:03:37.020 in Luke. Because before that, Jesus' question 00:03:37.020 --> 00:03:40.039 to them, where is your faith, reveals the issue. 00:03:40.280 --> 00:03:42.620 The storm was very real. So you've got to know 00:03:42.620 --> 00:03:44.780 that these guys, they were fishermen. They likely 00:03:44.780 --> 00:03:47.419 knew this lake. They knew these storms. They 00:03:47.419 --> 00:03:49.860 knew the weather patterns. And they knew exactly 00:03:49.860 --> 00:03:53.219 how dangerous it could be to be on the lake when 00:03:53.219 --> 00:03:55.300 this storm, this type of a storm would come. 00:03:55.520 --> 00:03:58.719 So they knew exactly how real the danger was. 00:03:58.990 --> 00:04:03.050 But the deeper issue is their trust. Who's on 00:04:03.050 --> 00:04:06.830 the boat with them? Jesus, the guy that the chapter 00:04:06.830 --> 00:04:09.469 before just declared himself as Lord, declared 00:04:09.469 --> 00:04:11.810 himself the Son of God. They've seen him work 00:04:11.810 --> 00:04:13.990 miracles. They've been following him for a while 00:04:13.990 --> 00:04:16.149 now. They've seen his teachings. They've seen 00:04:16.149 --> 00:04:19.269 his great deeds. And they know he is on the boat 00:04:19.269 --> 00:04:24.449 with them. But they're doubting. They're fearful. 00:04:26.090 --> 00:04:28.730 Luke says they were filling with water and were 00:04:28.730 --> 00:04:31.110 in danger. This isn't an exaggeration. They knew 00:04:31.110 --> 00:04:33.629 exactly what was happening. But what was Jesus 00:04:33.629 --> 00:04:38.470 doing? He was sleeping. Jesus wasn't anxious. 00:04:39.350 --> 00:04:43.189 Jesus wasn't pacing the floor of the boat. He 00:04:43.189 --> 00:04:46.370 wasn't panicking. He wasn't shouting out instructions. 00:04:46.589 --> 00:04:48.370 He wasn't telling everybody, just calm down, 00:04:48.490 --> 00:04:53.209 calm down. He was asleep. You ever watch a baby 00:04:53.209 --> 00:04:56.279 sleep? My favorite thing that I do every night 00:04:56.279 --> 00:04:59.980 is after the boys finally fall asleep, sometimes 00:04:59.980 --> 00:05:02.759 it's 10 minutes after bedtime, sometimes it's 00:05:02.759 --> 00:05:05.399 two hours after bedtime, but I will wait until 00:05:05.399 --> 00:05:07.259 they fall asleep because I'm not going to sleep 00:05:07.259 --> 00:05:10.000 with them awake because that's terrifying. So 00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:12.519 I'll wait until they're asleep, and I'll go to 00:05:12.519 --> 00:05:14.459 their rooms, and I'll make sure they're covered 00:05:14.459 --> 00:05:15.899 up. I'll give them a kiss. I'll pray over them 00:05:15.899 --> 00:05:18.100 really quick. But I love to just sit there and 00:05:18.100 --> 00:05:20.329 kind of watch them for a little bit. And I don't 00:05:20.329 --> 00:05:21.810 know if any of you have done that with your kids, 00:05:21.889 --> 00:05:23.589 but I love to just, it's kind of creepy when 00:05:23.589 --> 00:05:26.069 you say it out loud. I love to watch my kids 00:05:26.069 --> 00:05:30.750 sleep because they're so peaceful. It's not like 00:05:30.750 --> 00:05:32.889 during the day when they're running around being 00:05:32.889 --> 00:05:35.870 crazy, when they're running around crying and 00:05:35.870 --> 00:05:38.829 when things happen and the world is ending and 00:05:38.829 --> 00:05:41.529 they want mommy. It's not like those moments. 00:05:42.209 --> 00:05:45.370 It's the most peaceful sight you could ever see. 00:05:46.310 --> 00:05:49.310 And that's what I picture. When I think of Jesus 00:05:49.310 --> 00:05:52.870 sleeping on this boat. Because, and you know 00:05:52.870 --> 00:05:55.290 this, sometimes you watch your children sleep, 00:05:55.529 --> 00:05:57.670 but you're thinking about the bills that still 00:05:57.670 --> 00:06:00.449 need to be paid. Or you watch your children sleep 00:06:00.449 --> 00:06:02.550 and you think about the people in your family 00:06:02.550 --> 00:06:05.009 that are suffering. Or you watch your children 00:06:05.009 --> 00:06:06.850 sleep peacefully and you think about the wars 00:06:06.850 --> 00:06:08.629 that are happening. And you think about the unrest 00:06:08.629 --> 00:06:10.750 that's happening. And you think about the danger 00:06:10.750 --> 00:06:12.850 that's happening. I can remember when we lived 00:06:12.850 --> 00:06:16.420 in Montgomery. Montgomery. Notably, not a very 00:06:16.420 --> 00:06:18.759 safe place to live. Luckily, we lived in a safer 00:06:18.759 --> 00:06:22.420 part. But I would sit there and watch them sleep 00:06:22.420 --> 00:06:25.920 and think, somebody right now is being murdered. 00:06:28.500 --> 00:06:32.579 Peace in the midst of all the chaos of this world. 00:06:33.180 --> 00:06:35.420 And that's what I think of when I think of Jesus 00:06:35.420 --> 00:06:38.899 sleeping on this boat. But the disciples, they're 00:06:38.899 --> 00:06:41.040 freaking out and they're waking him up. They're 00:06:41.040 --> 00:06:43.279 crying, Master, Master, we're perishing. We're 00:06:43.279 --> 00:06:45.980 about to die. And he gets up and he rebukes the 00:06:45.980 --> 00:06:49.759 wind. He rebukes the waves. And instantly, Scripture 00:06:49.759 --> 00:06:53.819 says, the storm ceased and there was a calm. 00:06:55.160 --> 00:06:57.560 You see, the powerful way of Jesus isn't frantic. 00:06:58.560 --> 00:07:02.439 It's authoritative. Because even creation, even 00:07:02.439 --> 00:07:07.800 the deadliest of storms, obey him. And to that, 00:07:07.800 --> 00:07:11.779 to all of their freaking out, Jesus asks, where 00:07:11.779 --> 00:07:16.459 is your faith? Where's your trust? Why are you 00:07:16.459 --> 00:07:19.300 worried? Do you not know who's in the boat with 00:07:19.300 --> 00:07:23.360 you? The king of the universe, Jesus is looking 00:07:23.360 --> 00:07:25.319 at them and he's like, I created these waves. 00:07:25.519 --> 00:07:29.240 I created the wind. You are in my presence and 00:07:29.240 --> 00:07:33.360 you're worried about a storm? Where's your faith? 00:07:34.199 --> 00:07:38.220 And I want to be very clear. This is not us saying 00:07:38.220 --> 00:07:40.079 that, you know, we're supposed to deny the storm. 00:07:40.339 --> 00:07:42.160 It's not us saying we should pretend that the 00:07:42.160 --> 00:07:45.379 storm isn't there. It's just saying we need to 00:07:45.379 --> 00:07:49.850 trust the one who rules over it. And so we move 00:07:49.850 --> 00:07:52.550 on to the next scene of this gospel account where 00:07:52.550 --> 00:07:55.069 Luke answers the disciples' question of who is 00:07:55.069 --> 00:07:58.910 this man? Who is this that commands the winds 00:07:58.910 --> 00:08:00.810 and commands the waves and they obey him? Who 00:08:00.810 --> 00:08:04.029 is Jesus? He answers this question in his next 00:08:04.029 --> 00:08:06.230 story that he tells. The disciples and Jesus, 00:08:06.329 --> 00:08:08.629 they land in the country of the Gerasenes. This 00:08:08.629 --> 00:08:11.389 would be Gentile territory. So remember... The 00:08:11.389 --> 00:08:14.189 disciples, Jewish background. Jesus, Jewish background. 00:08:14.389 --> 00:08:16.790 They go to Gentile territory. These are people 00:08:16.790 --> 00:08:20.209 that are not like them. Okay, so they go, and 00:08:20.209 --> 00:08:22.509 immediately when Jesus gets off the boat, a man 00:08:22.509 --> 00:08:24.990 meets them. But this isn't a normal man. This 00:08:24.990 --> 00:08:27.149 isn't a man like you and I. This is a man like 00:08:27.149 --> 00:08:29.449 my three -year -old. He is demon -possessed. 00:08:29.949 --> 00:08:34.909 This is a crazy man. This man lives among the 00:08:34.909 --> 00:08:37.580 tombs. Because he can't live in the city with 00:08:37.580 --> 00:08:39.379 other people because they're civilized and he 00:08:39.379 --> 00:08:43.500 is not. This is a man who wears no clothes. He 00:08:43.500 --> 00:08:45.480 wears no chains because they tried to chain him 00:08:45.480 --> 00:08:47.679 up. They tried to bind him up and he broke free. 00:08:47.820 --> 00:08:50.100 There is nothing that they could do to subdue 00:08:50.100 --> 00:08:53.980 this man. So they put him out into the area with 00:08:53.980 --> 00:08:57.059 the tombs. And this man runs up on Jesus and 00:08:57.059 --> 00:09:00.919 the disciples. And when he sees Jesus, he cries 00:09:00.919 --> 00:09:04.299 out. What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son 00:09:04.299 --> 00:09:07.519 of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment 00:09:07.519 --> 00:09:13.159 me. Now, the first thing I want to say is the 00:09:13.159 --> 00:09:17.559 demons recognize exactly who this is. But this 00:09:17.559 --> 00:09:20.700 man wouldn't have met Jesus at this point, at 00:09:20.700 --> 00:09:24.139 least not according to the story. So somehow... 00:09:24.590 --> 00:09:26.750 This man knows who Jesus is, and it's not the 00:09:26.750 --> 00:09:28.289 man's knowledge, it's the demon's knowledge. 00:09:28.409 --> 00:09:31.370 The demons recognize that they are in the presence 00:09:31.370 --> 00:09:37.350 of who? The Son of the Most High God. They know 00:09:37.350 --> 00:09:39.929 who they're dealing with. They know the power. 00:09:40.889 --> 00:09:43.110 You don't tell someone, don't torment me, if 00:09:43.110 --> 00:09:47.450 you don't know the danger they possess. And so 00:09:47.450 --> 00:09:49.950 Jesus asked the man his name, and he says, Legion. 00:09:50.679 --> 00:09:53.379 And this would be referring to the Roman legion. 00:09:53.379 --> 00:09:55.639 And if you're familiar with Roman history, a 00:09:55.639 --> 00:10:00.000 Roman legion, 5 ,000 people. And so he says legion 00:10:00.000 --> 00:10:04.080 for we are many or for many demons had entered 00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:06.340 into the man. So think thousands of demons are 00:10:06.340 --> 00:10:10.899 possessing this man. And the demons begged Jesus 00:10:10.899 --> 00:10:15.059 not to send them into the abyss, but into a nearby 00:10:15.059 --> 00:10:18.350 herd of pigs. And at his word, they go. And then 00:10:18.350 --> 00:10:20.149 the pigs run off the cliff and they drown themselves. 00:10:20.269 --> 00:10:23.049 It's a really weird story, but it shows you the 00:10:23.049 --> 00:10:29.389 power of Jesus. The storm obeyed him. The demons 00:10:29.389 --> 00:10:31.809 who outnumbered him and his disciples by a long 00:10:31.809 --> 00:10:35.690 shot, the demons feared him and now obey him. 00:10:36.470 --> 00:10:39.210 See, the powerful way is not threatened by darkness. 00:10:40.029 --> 00:10:44.740 It commands it. The powerful way, the way of 00:10:44.740 --> 00:10:46.899 Jesus doesn't look at the dark things of this 00:10:46.899 --> 00:10:48.980 world, the evil things of this world. It doesn't 00:10:48.980 --> 00:10:52.960 look at these things and tremble. It causes them 00:10:52.960 --> 00:10:56.500 to tremble. And so when Christians walk around 00:10:56.500 --> 00:10:59.100 in fear, when we walk around with anxiety about 00:10:59.100 --> 00:11:01.519 what's going on in the world, when we look like 00:11:01.519 --> 00:11:03.279 that, the world looks at us and say, I thought 00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:06.750 you worshiped the powerful God. I thought you 00:11:06.750 --> 00:11:09.169 worshiped a God that commands winds and the waves. 00:11:09.309 --> 00:11:11.350 I thought you worshiped a God that could cast 00:11:11.350 --> 00:11:14.110 out thousands of demons from a man that the spiritual 00:11:14.110 --> 00:11:18.350 realm trembles in his presence. And so when we 00:11:18.350 --> 00:11:21.549 walk around with fear, the world looks at us 00:11:21.549 --> 00:11:26.049 like, are y 'all sure that you follow the one 00:11:26.049 --> 00:11:29.509 you claim to follow? Because if he is almighty 00:11:29.509 --> 00:11:34.309 God, what are you worried about? What are you 00:11:34.309 --> 00:11:39.440 fearful of? So after making, after helping the 00:11:39.440 --> 00:11:41.720 demon -possessed man, they go back to Galilee. 00:11:41.799 --> 00:11:44.600 So they go back to Jewish territory. And when 00:11:44.600 --> 00:11:47.200 they get there, they're met by a huge crowd of 00:11:47.200 --> 00:11:49.399 people welcoming them because these people want 00:11:49.399 --> 00:11:53.080 to experience Jesus. I mean, do you all believe 00:11:53.080 --> 00:11:55.159 me when I say the world is hungry for something 00:11:55.159 --> 00:11:58.620 more than what the world has offered? The world 00:11:58.620 --> 00:12:01.120 wants to know Jesus. Even these people that would 00:12:01.120 --> 00:12:03.879 have doubted him, it wouldn't be good or natural 00:12:03.879 --> 00:12:06.019 for them to believe that he is the Messiah. They 00:12:06.019 --> 00:12:07.960 wanted to experience his teaching. They wanted 00:12:07.960 --> 00:12:10.080 to experience his healings. And so they gather 00:12:10.080 --> 00:12:12.639 in masses and they're there and they're welcoming 00:12:12.639 --> 00:12:16.740 Jesus. And then among this crowd, a synagogue 00:12:16.740 --> 00:12:19.919 ruler named Jairus comes and he falls at Jesus' 00:12:20.100 --> 00:12:24.080 feet. Now Jairus has a problem. His daughter 00:12:24.080 --> 00:12:28.889 is dying and he wants Jesus to help. He wants 00:12:28.889 --> 00:12:31.629 Jesus to heal his daughter. And so he falls at 00:12:31.629 --> 00:12:34.330 Jesus' feet and he cries out and he asks him 00:12:34.330 --> 00:12:36.950 to come heal my daughter. And so Jesus agrees 00:12:36.950 --> 00:12:39.509 to go with him. But on the way, a woman who had 00:12:39.509 --> 00:12:42.149 been bleeding for 12 years, can you imagine one 00:12:42.149 --> 00:12:45.370 issue just constantly being with you for 12 years? 00:12:45.429 --> 00:12:47.629 And maybe you've had that. Maybe it's a cancer 00:12:47.629 --> 00:12:49.909 or maybe it's a sickness. Maybe it's a lifelong 00:12:49.909 --> 00:12:52.450 disease that you've had to deal with for a long, 00:12:52.509 --> 00:12:55.289 long time. This is what this woman is dealing 00:12:55.289 --> 00:12:58.019 with. She's been dealing with this bleeding, 00:12:58.120 --> 00:13:00.019 this hemorrhaging for 12 years, and she touches 00:13:00.019 --> 00:13:02.779 the edge of Jesus' garment. And Luke tells us 00:13:02.779 --> 00:13:04.899 that she had spent her life savings, everything 00:13:04.899 --> 00:13:07.500 she had, every dollar she had, she spent it trying 00:13:07.500 --> 00:13:10.139 to go to doctors to be healed, but none of them 00:13:10.139 --> 00:13:14.100 could heal her. 12 years of suffering, 12 years 00:13:14.100 --> 00:13:16.320 of social isolation because bleeding was seen 00:13:16.320 --> 00:13:19.240 as unclean among the Jews. But she touches Jesus. 00:13:19.500 --> 00:13:21.360 Well, she doesn't even touch him. She touches 00:13:21.360 --> 00:13:25.080 the edge of his clothing, and she's healed immediately. 00:13:27.529 --> 00:13:30.090 And Jesus notices something and he says this, 00:13:30.190 --> 00:13:32.850 someone touched me for I perceive that power 00:13:32.850 --> 00:13:36.509 has come out from me. And when she realizes she 00:13:36.509 --> 00:13:39.509 can't hide, she comes forward, she comes forward 00:13:39.509 --> 00:13:41.590 trembling and she tells her story. She tells 00:13:41.590 --> 00:13:44.309 him about how she had tried and tried and tried 00:13:44.309 --> 00:13:45.970 to be healed and she'd been dealing with this 00:13:45.970 --> 00:13:47.970 and everything that she tried didn't work, but 00:13:47.970 --> 00:13:51.350 now she's been healed by touching him. And then 00:13:51.350 --> 00:13:54.429 Jesus says, daughter, your faith has made you 00:13:54.429 --> 00:14:03.720 well. Go in peace. Her faith, her trust, her 00:14:03.720 --> 00:14:07.539 belief that just touching the edge of his garment 00:14:07.539 --> 00:14:14.240 could make her clean, could heal her. Her faith 00:14:14.240 --> 00:14:18.940 made her well. All of a sudden, her life is restored. 00:14:19.500 --> 00:14:22.480 She can now be a part of society. She can now 00:14:22.480 --> 00:14:25.299 live and work and not have to worry about spending 00:14:25.299 --> 00:14:28.220 every dollar she has on healing because she has 00:14:28.220 --> 00:14:32.759 trusted in the Messiah. Now, her faith didn't 00:14:32.759 --> 00:14:35.059 create power. This is not one of those things 00:14:35.059 --> 00:14:37.059 where it's like if you believe, if you believe 00:14:37.059 --> 00:14:39.279 the power... will be with you. It's not that 00:14:39.279 --> 00:14:42.279 her faith created power. It just connected her 00:14:42.279 --> 00:14:46.039 to it because faith trusts in the authority of 00:14:46.039 --> 00:14:49.299 Jesus and it depends on his power, not our own. 00:14:49.419 --> 00:14:51.720 It's not our abilities. It's not anything we 00:14:51.720 --> 00:14:54.299 can do or say. It is simply the power of the 00:14:54.299 --> 00:14:59.179 most high God. And Jesus proclaims that her faith 00:14:59.179 --> 00:15:03.259 made her well. And while he's talking to her 00:15:03.259 --> 00:15:05.379 and to the crowd, somebody shows up with some 00:15:05.379 --> 00:15:08.840 pretty bad news for Jairus. It's news no parent 00:15:08.840 --> 00:15:12.940 ever wants to hear. They tell him, your daughter 00:15:12.940 --> 00:15:18.039 is dead. Don't trouble the teacher anymore. Essentially 00:15:18.039 --> 00:15:21.980 saying, hey, it's over. There's no need for him 00:15:21.980 --> 00:15:24.000 to come to our house. If you'll notice in that 00:20:50.559 --> 00:20:53.519 story, Jesus had already said, let us go across 00:20:53.519 --> 00:20:57.880 to the other side of the lake. If Jesus said 00:20:57.880 --> 00:21:00.759 they were going across, you know what I choose 00:21:00.759 --> 00:21:04.420 to believe? They were going across. If Jesus 00:21:04.420 --> 00:21:06.630 said... they're going to the other side of the 00:21:06.630 --> 00:21:09.029 lake. They are going to the other side of the 00:21:09.029 --> 00:21:11.529 lake. So we have to trust in his power because 00:21:11.529 --> 00:21:14.829 we have to take him at his word. I believe this 00:21:14.829 --> 00:21:17.930 to be true. Far too many of us act like 00:22:45.529 --> 00:22:48.390 death is final. Far too many of us act like this 00:22:48.390 --> 00:22:52.029 world has power over us. But the truth is, Jesus 00:22:52.029 --> 00:22:55.519 has power over the world. And so we have to live 00:22:55.519 --> 00:22:58.279 like we believe that to be true. After demonstrating his authority and showing 00:28:05.829 --> 00:28:08.750 his power to the disciples, Jesus calls the 12 00:28:08.750 --> 00:28:10.650 that he had chosen together. And here's what 00:28:10.650 --> 00:28:13.009 it says he does in Luke chapter 9 verses 1 through 00:28:13.009 --> 00:28:15.450 2. He called the 12 together. He gave them power 00:28:15.450 --> 00:28:18.230 and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. 00:28:18.390 --> 00:28:21.150 And he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom 00:28:21.150 --> 00:28:24.970 of God and to heal.
