So just 00:01:27.829 --> 00:01:33.840 kind of along that same vein. And talking about 00:01:33.840 --> 00:01:36.920 things that I think sometimes people in church 00:01:36.920 --> 00:01:39.260 can get a little squeamish about. And the Holy 00:01:39.260 --> 00:01:41.620 Spirit is one of them. I hope you've, as we've 00:01:41.620 --> 00:01:43.859 talked about it, I hope you've seen and maybe 00:01:43.859 --> 00:01:46.700 you've been able to recognize in your own experiences 00:01:46.700 --> 00:01:51.319 there being that subject being kind of weird 00:01:51.319 --> 00:01:54.019 in the church sometimes. Sometimes it is. Sometimes 00:01:54.019 --> 00:01:57.000 it's not. And the reason why it's not is because 00:01:57.000 --> 00:01:58.879 you're the weird one. No, I don't know. But 00:02:08.030 --> 00:02:11.629 I'd also, so on this idea of controversial topics 00:02:11.629 --> 00:02:14.030 or maybe things we don't explore very deeply, 00:02:14.189 --> 00:02:17.389 I'd actually like to go ahead and take one more 00:02:17.389 --> 00:02:20.310 stab at kind of something we don't talk about 00:02:20.310 --> 00:02:22.669 very often. And tonight I'd like to talk about 00:02:22.669 --> 00:02:29.330 the devil. The devil. Bum, bum, bum. And tonight's 00:02:29.330 --> 00:02:32.729 discussion we're going to call the unseen. So 00:02:32.729 --> 00:02:38.129 if you would, in the theater of your minds, just 00:02:38.129 --> 00:02:42.330 play along with me. Now let me begin the discussion 00:02:42.330 --> 00:02:45.789 by illustrating something we find in the natural 00:02:45.789 --> 00:02:50.509 world. And that is in the 1800s, doctors and 00:02:50.509 --> 00:02:54.169 scientists believed in something called spontaneous 00:02:54.169 --> 00:03:00.120 generation. Okay? Spontaneous generation. The 00:03:00.120 --> 00:03:04.699 idea behind spontaneous generation was that living 00:03:04.699 --> 00:03:09.740 organisms could suddenly pop up anywhere from 00:03:09.740 --> 00:03:14.340 non -living organisms. And this pretty much explained 00:03:14.340 --> 00:03:19.180 in the 19th century, in the 1800s, the reality 00:03:19.180 --> 00:03:24.039 of disease. That from out of nowhere, disease 00:03:24.039 --> 00:03:29.750 could just... And doctors didn't necessarily 00:03:29.750 --> 00:03:33.349 assume it was related to anything specifically. 00:03:34.490 --> 00:03:37.270 Suddenly, a disease could pop up on the skin 00:03:37.270 --> 00:03:40.250 or pop up in a person's body. And in many cases, 00:03:40.370 --> 00:03:42.949 diseases would sweep through families and communities, 00:03:43.030 --> 00:03:45.949 parts of cities, kill thousands and thousands 00:03:45.949 --> 00:03:50.349 of people. Then there was a guy named Louis Pester, 00:03:50.569 --> 00:03:54.599 and he came along and said, no. That's actually 00:03:54.599 --> 00:03:59.439 not the case at all. But there are actually invisible 00:03:59.439 --> 00:04:04.479 organisms that you cannot see, but do actually 00:04:04.479 --> 00:04:08.180 carry these diseases. And they can be carried 00:04:08.180 --> 00:04:11.659 in the wind. They can be passed on by touching 00:04:11.659 --> 00:04:15.939 someone's skin. They can live in and on food. 00:04:16.300 --> 00:04:19.560 They can survive on different types of surfaces. 00:04:21.160 --> 00:04:23.899 And that these diseases are not just cropping 00:04:23.899 --> 00:04:28.939 up randomly, spontaneously from non -living organisms, 00:04:29.139 --> 00:04:33.259 but rather they are invisible, real organisms. 00:04:33.259 --> 00:04:37.100 And that there is, in fact, an invisible world 00:04:37.100 --> 00:04:42.180 that is impacting the visible world. There is 00:04:42.180 --> 00:04:45.240 an invisible world we learn through Louis Pasteur 00:04:45.240 --> 00:04:49.800 and germs. There is an invisible world that affects 00:04:49.800 --> 00:04:54.860 our... visible world. And the invisible world 00:04:54.860 --> 00:04:58.920 of germs, as they eventually became called, or 00:04:58.920 --> 00:05:04.879 microorganisms, are everywhere. They are all 00:05:04.879 --> 00:05:09.920 around you right now. And you can't see them. 00:05:11.379 --> 00:05:15.720 And nowadays, that's not even a theory anymore, 00:05:15.939 --> 00:05:18.920 right? That's just an assumption of fact today. 00:05:20.199 --> 00:05:24.420 In fact, we all believe in germs. Everybody in 00:05:24.420 --> 00:05:28.079 this room, everybody listening to me on this 00:05:28.079 --> 00:05:31.360 podcast, we believe there is an invisible world 00:05:31.360 --> 00:05:34.699 that impacts our visible world. Not only do we 00:05:34.699 --> 00:05:37.480 believe in germs, not only do we believe there's 00:05:37.480 --> 00:05:42.259 something that impacts what we see, what we can't 00:05:42.259 --> 00:05:47.680 see, we believe that it also can be very often 00:05:47.680 --> 00:05:53.129 dangerous. We believe sometimes the invisible 00:05:53.129 --> 00:05:57.430 world's impact on our very visible world can 00:05:57.430 --> 00:06:02.230 be life -threatening. And another thing we know, 00:06:02.310 --> 00:06:07.610 we know this to be true, that the invisible world 00:06:07.610 --> 00:06:16.649 of germs does not stay invisible because once 00:06:16.649 --> 00:06:19.959 it's mixed at the right time, With the right 00:06:19.959 --> 00:06:24.639 things, on the right skin, in the right environment, 00:06:24.660 --> 00:06:29.680 what's invisible becomes very visible. And it 00:06:29.680 --> 00:06:34.240 can become very dangerous. In fact, it can become 00:06:34.240 --> 00:06:39.879 life -threatening. And now, especially in the 00:06:39.879 --> 00:06:45.819 post -COVID world, we all know that. None of 00:06:45.819 --> 00:06:50.850 us any longer dispute that. Now, the Bible says 00:06:50.850 --> 00:06:55.750 that there's another invisible world. There's 00:06:55.750 --> 00:06:59.170 another invisible world that doesn't just impact 00:06:59.170 --> 00:07:02.709 us physically, but it impacts us spiritually 00:07:02.709 --> 00:07:09.230 and relationally. It impacts our thinking. It 00:07:09.230 --> 00:07:12.850 impacts our worldviews. It impacts our attitudes, 00:07:13.050 --> 00:07:16.689 our relationships, our marriages, how we do business, 00:07:16.850 --> 00:07:20.970 how we do life, how we interact with others. 00:07:21.029 --> 00:07:28.170 It impacts everything about us. And just like 00:07:28.170 --> 00:07:33.230 the invisible world of germs, it too can be life 00:07:33.230 --> 00:07:38.240 -threatening. It can for sure be emotionally 00:07:38.240 --> 00:07:43.160 life -threatening. It can definitely be relationally 00:07:43.160 --> 00:07:48.240 life -threatening. And just like germs, it is 00:07:48.240 --> 00:07:53.459 an invisible world, and yet it is all around 00:07:53.459 --> 00:07:59.300 us, and it impacts everything we do. And yet, 00:07:59.319 --> 00:08:03.839 even as we talk about it, some of us might... 00:08:04.850 --> 00:08:11.829 Resist it a little bit. We can be like the people 00:08:11.829 --> 00:08:15.850 in the late 1800s that said, wait a minute, you're 00:08:15.850 --> 00:08:18.990 telling me there's something I can't see that 00:08:18.990 --> 00:08:24.459 impacts what I can see? Wait a minute. You're 00:08:24.459 --> 00:08:26.860 telling me that there's something I can't see 00:08:26.860 --> 00:08:29.220 and yet it's all around me that floats through 00:08:29.220 --> 00:08:32.759 the air that can lie, land rather miraculously 00:08:32.759 --> 00:08:35.519 wherever it wants to land and suddenly a living 00:08:35.519 --> 00:08:39.899 organism crops up because of something that is 00:08:39.899 --> 00:08:43.519 invisible. You're trying to tell me that's a 00:08:43.519 --> 00:08:48.240 fact. They would say that's difficult to believe. 00:08:50.139 --> 00:08:54.759 And when we start talking about. the devil, people 00:08:54.759 --> 00:09:05.120 can feel the same way. The same Bible. So I want 00:09:05.120 --> 00:09:07.399 to talk about what the Bible says. I really, 00:09:07.460 --> 00:09:10.220 especially in these topics, I like to stick to 00:09:10.220 --> 00:09:15.200 what the Bible says because what I think about 00:09:15.200 --> 00:09:17.919 it or how I feel might be a great conversation, 00:09:17.960 --> 00:09:21.460 but not necessarily a good Bible teaching. Right? 00:09:21.559 --> 00:09:23.559 I'm going to tell you what the Bible says, and 00:09:23.559 --> 00:09:27.720 I'm going to let you pray on it. So, that same 00:09:27.720 --> 00:09:30.460 Bible that we're all going to trust in, the Bible 00:09:30.460 --> 00:09:35.360 that says, love one another. We love that one. 00:09:36.240 --> 00:09:39.500 The same Bible that says, husbands, love your 00:09:39.500 --> 00:09:44.139 wives. All the wives love that one. The same 00:09:44.139 --> 00:09:46.600 Bible that says, children, obey your parents, 00:09:46.620 --> 00:09:49.840 and all parents stand up and cheer. We love that 00:09:49.840 --> 00:09:55.110 one. The same Bible that says you can know God 00:09:55.110 --> 00:09:58.269 by putting your faith in Him. If you put your 00:09:58.269 --> 00:10:01.809 faith in God, you can know God. We love that 00:10:01.809 --> 00:10:07.110 part. Many of those same books of the Bible, 00:10:07.250 --> 00:10:13.610 right, will also say, no, no, no, it's not just 00:10:13.610 --> 00:10:17.350 that stuff. There's more to it. Because that 00:10:17.350 --> 00:10:21.750 same Bible that we love so much, Also tells us 00:10:21.750 --> 00:10:26.470 of an invisible world. Scripture affirms for 00:10:26.470 --> 00:10:30.629 us. An invisible world that impacts our very 00:10:30.629 --> 00:10:34.009 visible world every single day. And we do not 00:10:34.009 --> 00:10:37.169 need microscopes to discover it. You know what 00:10:37.169 --> 00:10:42.230 we need in our lives? Rear view mirrors. Right? 00:10:42.350 --> 00:10:47.289 Hear me out. Because all you have to do is look 00:10:47.289 --> 00:10:51.519 at me. Maybe you're like me. All we have to do 00:10:51.519 --> 00:10:55.559 is look back in our life. I've looked back in 00:10:55.559 --> 00:10:59.799 my life. And I would say to myself, how could 00:10:59.799 --> 00:11:03.299 I have been so stupid? How could I have been 00:11:03.299 --> 00:11:06.159 so confused? How could I have thought that was 00:11:06.159 --> 00:11:10.080 a good thing? Looking back, that was clearly 00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:13.980 a bad thing. How could I have thought that was 00:11:13.980 --> 00:11:18.100 a good idea? Clearly, when it's such a bad idea. 00:11:18.779 --> 00:11:26.679 How could I have become so deceived? I mean, 00:11:26.700 --> 00:11:34.919 looking back, now it's clear. It's because there 00:11:34.919 --> 00:11:41.419 is a deception. There is a way of thinking that 00:11:41.419 --> 00:11:46.899 only really makes sense in the moment. And then 00:11:46.899 --> 00:11:50.399 we look back after that boneheaded decision and 00:11:50.399 --> 00:11:53.620 think, how could I have been so confused? Well, 00:11:53.860 --> 00:11:59.580 many of the times our confusion as a culture, 00:11:59.639 --> 00:12:06.820 as a people, forts our good thinking, confuses 00:12:06.820 --> 00:12:11.460 our thinking. And friends, it is not an over 00:12:11.460 --> 00:12:14.000 -exaggeration that this can lead to the death 00:12:14.000 --> 00:12:19.740 of people. It's resulted in the annihilation 00:12:19.740 --> 00:12:24.299 of relationships. It's resulted in the deaths 00:12:24.299 --> 00:12:27.879 sometimes of thousands of people, the persecution 00:12:27.879 --> 00:12:31.639 of people, the mistreatment of others. And then 00:12:31.639 --> 00:12:34.039 we eventually come to our senses and we think, 00:12:34.139 --> 00:12:39.179 what were we doing? How could we have ever supported 00:12:39.179 --> 00:12:42.600 that idea? How could we ever thought that was 00:12:42.600 --> 00:12:47.029 the right thing to do? The Bible answers it for 00:12:47.029 --> 00:12:49.889 us. It's because somewhere along the lines, we 00:12:49.889 --> 00:12:53.710 allowed ourselves to become twisted, twisted, 00:12:54.149 --> 00:13:02.750 confused, maybe even deceived. It's a distortion 00:13:02.750 --> 00:13:07.250 of the truth that distorts itself just enough 00:13:07.250 --> 00:13:10.809 to convince us it's the right thing to do, and 00:13:10.809 --> 00:13:14.529 yet it gets us. into so much trouble, but it 00:13:14.529 --> 00:13:20.710 won't quite scare us away. The interesting thing, 00:13:20.769 --> 00:13:25.629 though, and I'm guessing that you, this has probably 00:13:25.629 --> 00:13:29.330 been your experience too, maybe you're one of 00:13:29.330 --> 00:13:32.909 these people. There are people out there, and 00:13:32.909 --> 00:13:36.230 if you're not one, maybe you've met one, that 00:13:36.230 --> 00:13:38.669 somehow are able to navigate this minefield. 00:13:41.100 --> 00:13:44.820 They navigate the deception. They don't make 00:13:44.820 --> 00:13:48.080 the bad decisions. They just do that part of life, all of 00:14:03.840 --> 00:14:08.240 life, differently. They're different. And in 00:14:08.240 --> 00:14:11.179 our moments of clarity, in our moments of sanity, 00:14:11.379 --> 00:14:14.740 we think, oh, I want a marriage like that. I 00:14:14.740 --> 00:14:17.279 want dating relationships like that. I want to 00:14:17.279 --> 00:14:19.940 have that kind of self -esteem. I want to have 00:14:19.940 --> 00:14:23.919 that kind of integrity in my life. I would like 00:14:23.919 --> 00:14:28.840 to be emotionally healthy. I'd like to have those 00:14:28.840 --> 00:14:32.139 same kind of habits that I think are admirable. 00:14:34.340 --> 00:14:38.899 I'd like to feel more free. Like I think they 00:14:38.899 --> 00:14:43.299 feel free. And there are people that just seem 00:14:43.299 --> 00:14:47.500 to know how to navigate that. But let's face 00:14:47.500 --> 00:14:53.059 it. Those people are the actual exception. They 00:14:53.059 --> 00:14:56.700 are not the rule. Because we live in a culture 00:14:56.700 --> 00:15:01.559 that is twisted. Just enough to deceive us, but 00:15:01.559 --> 00:15:07.590 not enough to scare us off completely. that are 00:15:07.590 --> 00:15:12.289 so evident in a room like this, in conversations 00:15:12.289 --> 00:15:16.169 like we have, often the truth is once we step 00:15:16.169 --> 00:15:19.570 out of these doors and we go back into our worlds, 00:15:19.590 --> 00:15:23.090 those truths that are so self -evident to us 00:15:23.090 --> 00:15:26.750 right here and right now don't seem so out there. 00:15:28.049 --> 00:15:32.570 They become twisted. Now, as obvious, maybe, 00:15:50.409 --> 00:15:55.129 as some of this seems, Jesus gives us very specific 00:15:55.129 --> 00:16:02.019 insights into this unseen world. So, if you'd 00:16:02.019 --> 00:16:03.980 like, let me read to you from the Bible. I'm 00:16:03.980 --> 00:16:06.120 going to turn to the Gospel account according 00:16:06.120 --> 00:16:10.159 to John. And I'll be looking at 8. But we're 00:16:10.159 --> 00:16:15.580 going to be looking in John tonight, 8. And I 00:16:15.580 --> 00:16:18.440 just want to warn you, I think his, and when 00:16:18.440 --> 00:16:20.820 I say his, I'm talking about Jesus here, right? 00:16:21.700 --> 00:16:26.960 His explanation of this unseen world can be unsettling. 00:16:28.080 --> 00:16:30.159 I think that's the best way, easiest way to say 00:16:30.159 --> 00:16:32.620 it at least. John chapter 8. It's a very interesting 00:16:32.620 --> 00:16:34.940 chapter of the Bible. One of the most popular, 00:16:34.980 --> 00:16:38.580 famous verses in the Bible comes to us from John 00:16:38.580 --> 00:16:41.080 chapter 8. And I bet most of you will know it. 00:16:41.100 --> 00:16:43.340 And you shall know the truth and the truth shall 00:16:43.340 --> 00:16:48.139 make you free. See, you all know that one. Everybody 00:16:48.139 --> 00:16:52.740 loves that verse. Right? Even people who don't 00:16:52.740 --> 00:16:55.379 know that it came from John. Chapter 8, they 00:16:55.379 --> 00:16:57.259 love it. The truth should make you free. I know 00:16:57.259 --> 00:17:01.879 that one. Yeah! Right? And that certainly intertwines 00:17:01.879 --> 00:17:03.259 with the conversation I think we're going to 00:17:03.259 --> 00:17:06.099 have tonight. That verse is there. But the book 00:17:06.099 --> 00:17:11.380 of John also has another verse that we've all 00:17:11.380 --> 00:17:13.500 grown up hearing. It's not in chapter 8, though. 00:17:13.579 --> 00:17:16.480 This one's in chapter 3. And it says this, For 00:17:16.480 --> 00:17:18.759 God so loved the world that he gave his only 00:17:18.759 --> 00:17:21.119 Son, that whoever believes in him should not 00:17:21.119 --> 00:17:24.049 perish but have eternal life. We've heard that 00:17:24.049 --> 00:17:26.970 one, right? Okay, that's from the book of John. 00:17:28.109 --> 00:17:31.049 Tons and tons and tons of great stuff in the 00:17:31.049 --> 00:17:33.069 gospel account according to John. Even if you're 00:17:33.069 --> 00:17:35.009 not a Christian, I would argue. As a matter of 00:17:35.009 --> 00:17:41.029 fact, often people like the Gideons as well as 00:17:41.029 --> 00:17:44.329 the Gideons, but missionary groups that like 00:17:44.329 --> 00:17:46.369 to print and hand out Bibles to people make sure 00:17:46.369 --> 00:17:49.470 there's access to Scripture all over the world. 00:17:50.119 --> 00:17:52.579 often won't print out whole Bibles. Now, you've 00:17:52.579 --> 00:17:54.500 also seen them where they'll just kind of print 00:17:54.500 --> 00:17:56.940 the New Testament too. But in today's world, 00:17:57.019 --> 00:17:58.819 they're not even necessarily printing the whole 00:17:58.819 --> 00:18:01.839 New Testament anymore. But when they choose one 00:18:01.839 --> 00:18:05.160 book, one book of the Bible to try to put in 00:18:05.160 --> 00:18:08.319 front of a non -Christian's face that they might 00:18:08.319 --> 00:18:11.319 change their mind, they'll give them a little 00:18:11.319 --> 00:18:13.200 small book of the Gospel account according to 00:18:13.200 --> 00:18:17.230 John. Right. It's one of the most popular pulled 00:18:17.230 --> 00:18:21.109 out and recopied reprinted portions of the Bible 00:18:21.109 --> 00:18:25.329 because it's in the book of John where we find 00:18:25.329 --> 00:18:30.490 Jesus. And in finding him, we also get Jesus 00:18:30.490 --> 00:18:34.049 take on this unseen world. And as I had mentioned, 00:18:34.210 --> 00:18:38.869 it can be unsettling. Now, this is not me. I'm 00:18:38.869 --> 00:18:42.769 reading the Bible. Right. Here's Jesus is not 00:18:42.769 --> 00:18:47.210 Jim's. Here's Jesus' take on the invisible world. 00:18:47.289 --> 00:18:50.289 Let me set this up. John chapter 8. John's having 00:18:50.289 --> 00:18:52.910 this conversation with some religious leaders. 00:18:53.190 --> 00:18:55.990 And at this point, he's far enough into his ministry. 00:18:56.069 --> 00:18:59.089 He has done all of these miracles at this point. 00:18:59.130 --> 00:19:01.730 He has taught people so many profound things. 00:19:01.890 --> 00:19:05.190 People at this point, some people are beginning 00:19:05.190 --> 00:19:07.849 to kind of nod their head and think, you know 00:19:07.849 --> 00:19:12.519 what? Hey, this might be the Messiah. And then 00:19:12.519 --> 00:19:14.759 there would be other people standing along the 00:19:14.759 --> 00:19:21.059 periphery and saying, no, I don't think so. And 00:19:21.059 --> 00:19:24.599 in the 21st century, we kind of know the context 00:19:24.599 --> 00:19:26.619 and look back at the retelling of the story. 00:19:26.680 --> 00:19:30.700 We would think that in that situation, it would 00:19:30.700 --> 00:19:33.299 be these religious leaders would have been the 00:19:33.299 --> 00:19:36.700 easiest ones to convince about the truth of who 00:19:36.700 --> 00:19:41.819 Jesus is. Because they should have known exactly. 00:19:42.099 --> 00:19:45.940 In fact, they did know exactly what to look for 00:19:45.940 --> 00:19:51.680 in a Messiah. But they didn't like Jesus. Because 00:19:51.680 --> 00:19:54.140 he didn't fit their mold of what they thought 00:19:54.140 --> 00:19:56.420 the Messiah was going to be when he got there. 00:19:57.799 --> 00:20:00.359 So Jesus is having these conversations with these 00:20:00.359 --> 00:20:03.539 guys who should know that the Son of God is standing 00:20:03.539 --> 00:20:07.730 right in front of them. And 00:27:23.680 --> 00:27:28.180 his agenda is simple, to destroy it. And he has 00:27:28.180 --> 00:27:32.720 one tool. It's through deception. It's through 00:27:32.720 --> 00:27:36.420 confusing the human mind to think that what is 00:27:36.420 --> 00:27:40.279 wrong is actually right and what's right is actually 00:27:40.279 --> 00:27:45.180 wrong. The people do things that make absolutely 00:27:45.180 --> 00:27:49.059 no sense to anybody else looking on, but it makes 00:27:49.059 --> 00:27:52.420 perfect sense to them. And at the end of the 00:27:52.420 --> 00:27:57.079 day, the end is the destruction of our souls, 00:27:57.240 --> 00:28:01.930 of the heart, of relationships. Maybe even like 00:28:01.930 --> 00:28:06.210 germs, the physical body. Let me give you a few 00:28:06.210 --> 00:28:10.329 more glimpses into Jesus' view on this whole 00:28:10.329 --> 00:28:13.970 thing. John chapter 14 this time, chapter 30, 00:28:14.049 --> 00:28:17.569 same book. He says, and Jesus talked to his close 00:28:17.569 --> 00:28:20.329 guys. He says, I'll not speak with you much longer 00:28:20.329 --> 00:28:23.170 for the prince of this world is coming and he 00:28:23.170 --> 00:28:28.049 has no hold on me. Now, remember I'm not talking 00:28:28.049 --> 00:28:31.099 about... There's a lot of this I don't understand. 00:28:32.339 --> 00:28:35.500 And I've learned over time, I don't mind going 00:28:35.500 --> 00:28:38.480 through things that I don't fully understand. 00:28:39.760 --> 00:28:42.480 Right? Here's what Jesus believed. 00:29:05.980 --> 00:29:08.519 Jesus believed that somehow Satan, the devil, 00:29:08.970 --> 00:29:11.809 was the prince of the world. That this world, 00:29:11.890 --> 00:29:16.049 this globe, for you flat earthers out there, 00:29:16.109 --> 00:29:20.809 this globe that we live on was his domain. The 00:29:20.809 --> 00:29:24.450 prince of the world is coming. Let me switch 00:29:24.450 --> 00:29:27.710 to Luke chapter 4. This is one of the temptations 00:29:27.710 --> 00:29:30.670 of Jesus. He was tempted to do several things. 00:29:31.289 --> 00:29:33.789 And this is why this is a great portion of the 00:29:33.789 --> 00:29:35.950 Bible. You should go and read it. But listen 00:29:35.950 --> 00:29:42.000 to these words. The devil led him, Jesus, up 00:29:42.000 --> 00:29:45.200 to a high place. This is in Luke chapter 4, verse 00:29:45.200 --> 00:29:48.460 5. The devil led him up to a high place and showed 00:29:48.460 --> 00:29:51.039 him in an instant all of the kingdoms of the 00:29:51.039 --> 00:29:53.880 world. And he said to him, I'll give you all 00:29:53.880 --> 00:30:00.920 of their authority. What? Yeah. Jesus, the devil 00:30:00.920 --> 00:30:04.920 says, I will give you all the authority over 00:30:04.920 --> 00:30:07.099 all the world and all of the kingdoms of the 00:30:07.099 --> 00:30:11.319 world. I will give, verse 6, I will give you 00:30:11.319 --> 00:30:14.960 all of their authority and splendor, for it has, 00:30:15.160 --> 00:30:18.980 now look at this, this is in the Bible, for it, 00:30:19.000 --> 00:30:21.839 that's the authority over the kingdoms of over 00:30:21.839 --> 00:30:26.220 the earth, has been given to me, Satan says, 00:30:26.480 --> 00:30:30.599 and I can give it to anybody I want. This is 00:30:30.599 --> 00:30:33.579 disturbing. I can't fill in all the gaps here, 00:30:33.660 --> 00:30:36.460 but this is what scripture teaches us, that you 00:30:36.460 --> 00:30:39.759 and I, Do live on a planet that you and I live 00:30:39.759 --> 00:30:43.200 on a globe that we live on the earth that has 00:30:43.200 --> 00:30:46.279 actually been given to placed under the authority 00:30:46.279 --> 00:30:51.799 of a personality that Jesus refers to as the 00:30:51.799 --> 00:30:56.400 devil. And that his agenda is the destruction 00:30:56.400 --> 00:31:00.640 of human life and the means by which he accomplishes 00:31:00.640 --> 00:31:04.990 this. Destruction is through deception. That 00:31:04.990 --> 00:31:09.609 was difficult for me to discern there. That's 00:31:09.609 --> 00:31:13.970 a little disconcerting, isn't it? But maybe it's 00:31:13.970 --> 00:31:17.470 helpful. Maybe it explains some things, maybe 00:31:17.470 --> 00:31:21.130 not all. Maybe it's something we need to learn 00:31:21.130 --> 00:31:25.569 so that we can better understand our struggles 00:31:25.569 --> 00:31:32.349 with temptation. Maybe, as I close, It's something 00:31:32.349 --> 00:31:34.329 we need to factor into our struggles at home 00:31:34.329 --> 00:31:37.410 because maybe there's something we can't see 00:31:37.410 --> 00:31:42.450 that everybody else can see that impacts everything 00:31:42.450 --> 00:31:49.230 you do. 30 years after Jesus did and said this, 00:31:49.289 --> 00:31:53.140 and John, The Apostle Paul begins writing to 00:31:53.140 --> 00:31:55.539 Christians in Christian churches, and he understands 00:31:55.539 --> 00:31:58.680 what Jesus taught. And he takes all of this in, 00:31:58.819 --> 00:32:01.819 and he writes a letter to the Christians that 00:32:01.819 --> 00:32:04.019 were living in Ephesus. And that letter is called 00:32:04.019 --> 00:32:07.019 Ephesians. And at the end of the book, he says 00:32:07.019 --> 00:32:09.059 this. These are the verses, if you read them 00:32:09.059 --> 00:32:11.880 in isolation, it's kind of like, why is this 00:32:11.880 --> 00:32:15.000 in the book? By the way, fantastic letter. But 00:32:15.000 --> 00:32:18.019 listen, these verses actually... go through this 00:32:18.019 --> 00:32:21.339 idea. Ephesians chapter 6, Paul says, I want 00:32:21.339 --> 00:32:26.359 you to put on, 6 and 11, I want you to put on 00:32:26.359 --> 00:32:30.819 the full armor of God so that you can take your 00:32:30.819 --> 00:32:34.140 stand against the devil's, and the next word, 00:32:34.519 --> 00:32:41.099 schemes. Put on the full armor of God so that 00:32:41.099 --> 00:32:44.480 you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 00:32:46.390 --> 00:32:49.569 Paul, who wrote two -thirds of the New Testament, 00:32:49.869 --> 00:32:52.529 believed that there's a devil, a personality, 00:32:52.789 --> 00:32:55.269 an entity, an individual. Apparently, it's a 00:32:55.269 --> 00:32:58.930 him. And he has schemes, a plan. He has some 00:32:58.930 --> 00:33:01.849 sort of strategy. And it seems, according to 00:33:01.849 --> 00:33:05.029 Paul, that it is a very simple one. It's take 00:33:05.029 --> 00:33:09.809 what's true and twist it. Just enough to confuse 00:33:09.809 --> 00:33:13.690 and deceive, but not enough to scare them away. 00:33:15.289 --> 00:33:18.329 Just enough that they won't be worried about 00:33:18.329 --> 00:33:23.230 the harm that is sure to come to them. And when 00:33:23.230 --> 00:33:25.750 you begin to factor this into what you see in 00:33:25.750 --> 00:33:28.990 the world, maybe what you experience right now 00:33:28.990 --> 00:33:31.509 in your own life, for some of you, for some of 00:33:31.509 --> 00:33:36.490 us rather, maybe this is an aha moment.
