So. 00:01:33:09 - 00:01:37:07 So, I know I can't do you justice, but could you tell us a little bit 00:01:37:07 - 00:01:38:12 about yourself? 00:01:38:12 - 00:01:38:24 Yeah. 00:01:38:24 - 00:01:43:04 So, Chris Williams, I'm the owner, CEO of the Smart Modified tour. 00:01:43:04 - 00:01:46:04 That's Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams Tour. 00:01:46:24 - 00:01:49:24 I, I kind of 00:01:50:12 - 00:01:53:22 got involved in it during the pandemic, of all things. 00:01:54:06 - 00:01:58:16 I was working as vice president of Fanatics. 00:01:58:17 - 00:02:01:24 So I then all of the football jerseys 00:02:01:24 - 00:02:05:08 and all of the retail and stuff at the Super Bowl and the Kentucky Derby. 00:02:05:08 - 00:02:06:22 I was having a blast. 00:02:06:22 - 00:02:10:10 And then when the pandemic hit, it kind of changed a lot of things. 00:02:10:10 - 00:02:15:07 And I was racing a little bit at the, you know, the Bowman Gray 00:02:15:07 - 00:02:19:05 and some of those racetracks, and a couple of people approached me 00:02:19:05 - 00:02:21:03 and says, hey, man, we need to start this tour back. 00:02:21:03 - 00:02:23:18 It's been kind of dormant for a few years. 00:02:23:18 - 00:02:28:04 And, you know, with your business acronym and stuff, we need to get it going. 00:02:28:04 - 00:02:31:08 And you have a passion for business, but you have a passion for racing. 00:02:31:17 - 00:02:32:20 And I was born into it. 00:02:32:20 - 00:02:36:04 So my dad was a general manager at the Martinsville Speedway. 00:02:36:09 - 00:02:39:07 Grew up on Racetrack Road all my life. 00:02:39:07 - 00:02:40:21 I loved it. 00:02:40:21 - 00:02:44:16 Had a passion for the racing, but I became really best friends 00:02:44:16 - 00:02:46:08 with Dale Earnhardt. 00:02:46:08 - 00:02:48:14 That is not junior as Dale Earnhardt senior. 00:02:48:14 - 00:02:52:00 And so me and Dale hit it off really good. 00:02:52:13 - 00:02:56:20 Representing him in business from the 80s until he passed. 00:02:56:20 - 00:03:00:22 And, NASCAR bought out the contracts and, 00:03:00:22 - 00:03:05:21 I represented all the teams in the drivers and fortune 500 companies. 00:03:05:21 - 00:03:09:17 It didn't matter if it was Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Eminem's Mars, you name it. 00:03:09:17 - 00:03:11:10 I represented them all. 00:03:11:10 - 00:03:14:21 And I come to find out that, you know, they all are like us. 00:03:14:21 - 00:03:16:16 They have a passion for what they're doing. 00:03:16:16 - 00:03:18:18 It's not just in business. 00:03:18:18 - 00:03:21:18 It's about doing something that is making a change. 00:03:21:18 - 00:03:27:07 Sometimes it's product, sometimes it's, you know, a benefit to the individual. 00:03:27:07 - 00:03:30:19 It can help not only in health, but it also can help in other things. 00:03:30:19 - 00:03:34:15 And when you see people that have a passion like you have, 00:03:34:16 - 00:03:38:08 you know, trying to get it out to the public, and benefit them, 00:03:38:08 - 00:03:43:13 you know, everybody thinks it's all about material, monetary stuff. 00:03:43:13 - 00:03:49:08 And a lot of times it's about the passion they have to create an easement or 00:03:50:13 - 00:03:53:13 cure or something for that individual. 00:03:53:22 - 00:03:55:09 And it's never about the money. 00:03:55:09 - 00:03:59:10 It's all about 100% making that person's life better. 00:04:00:00 - 00:04:02:03 And so go ahead. 00:04:02:03 - 00:04:02:22 Yeah, man. 00:04:02:22 - 00:04:05:20 You just hit on something about, 00:04:05:20 - 00:04:08:01 What I love about it is 00:04:08:01 - 00:04:12:11 that you have thought about this passion and making people's lives better, 00:04:12:23 - 00:04:16:14 and I was thinking about the race car circuits, and, 00:04:16:22 - 00:04:19:23 a number of them are in very rural areas. 00:04:20:10 - 00:04:24:18 So how do you see the race car, you know, sort of lifting up people, 00:04:24:18 - 00:04:28:06 bringing smiles or bringing joy to people, particularly in rural communities? 00:04:28:14 - 00:04:31:14 Well, rural communities are, you know, it's it's 00:04:31:18 - 00:04:34:02 you go back and you think about rural communities. 00:04:34:02 - 00:04:37:02 What is there to do in rural communities? 00:04:37:09 - 00:04:42:09 I mean, you have football, you know, you have basketball games, high school. 00:04:42:20 - 00:04:45:15 But what is there to do? Right? 00:04:45:15 - 00:04:49:08 And so when you think about racing historically, 00:04:49:20 - 00:04:53:14 you know, in these rural areas and Franklin County and South Boston, 00:04:53:14 - 00:04:55:03 Virginia and stuff, 00:04:55:03 - 00:04:58:00 you know, they want to go out racing on Saturday night 00:04:58:00 - 00:05:00:18 and, you know, have their fastest cars against your fastest car. 00:05:00:18 - 00:05:02:09 And sometimes it's a rivalry down 00:05:02:09 - 00:05:06:06 the street or rivalry across town or whatever, you know. 00:05:06:06 - 00:05:07:08 And that passion becomes 00:05:07:08 - 00:05:10:08 I've got to build something better to beat that individual. 00:05:10:17 - 00:05:15:05 And so in the community, you become a fan of one or the other 00:05:15:05 - 00:05:18:05 or one of the three or whatever, and the next thing you know, 00:05:18:17 - 00:05:22:21 you're looking for that Saturday night from April till October to go out and, 00:05:22:22 - 00:05:24:03 you know, have something to do. 00:05:24:03 - 00:05:25:22 And you don't see that everywhere. 00:05:25:22 - 00:05:26:20 You don't 00:05:26:20 - 00:05:28:20 you know, a lot of people have touring and, 00:05:28:20 - 00:05:30:15 you know, a lot of people like football has, 00:05:30:15 - 00:05:34:16 you know, visitations to other towns and there's nothing going on in there. 00:05:34:16 - 00:05:38:05 Well, this racetrack is every Saturday night, right? 00:05:38:06 - 00:05:41:07 It's it's a passion for you to go up, say, hey, let's go out with, 00:05:41:16 - 00:05:45:00 you know, tailgate, you know, let's go sometimes, you know, have a drink. 00:05:45:00 - 00:05:47:19 Sometimes it's a cookout or whatever. 00:05:47:19 - 00:05:50:01 And let's go root for the guys. 00:05:50:01 - 00:05:54:03 And most of these people find out most of these people find out that 00:05:55:05 - 00:05:57:06 they can become part of the team as well. 00:05:57:06 - 00:05:57:22 Right? 00:05:57:22 - 00:06:00:22 And and they are habitual. 00:06:01:02 - 00:06:02:15 It's the same habits. 00:06:02:15 - 00:06:06:00 They go to the same convenience store, to the same place to get their wings 00:06:06:00 - 00:06:07:02 that they're going to cook, 00:06:07:02 - 00:06:11:01 you know, the same everything the grill, the charcoal and everything else. 00:06:11:01 - 00:06:15:23 And so the most amazing thing about it is, is it is a community. 00:06:16:14 - 00:06:19:09 And the racing community as a family 00:06:19:09 - 00:06:23:04 and people doesn't understand that is truly a family. 00:06:23:04 - 00:06:25:02 And you go and fight for them, 00:06:25:02 - 00:06:28:17 you go bet against them, you go to root against them. 00:06:28:17 - 00:06:31:02 But at the end of the day, you're one. 00:06:31:02 - 00:06:35:19 And so it's pretty cool to see these rural communities in these racing communities 00:06:35:20 - 00:06:36:24 drive the way they do. 00:06:36:24 - 00:06:42:00 And you know, what we try to do is we try to keep the costs down so they can 00:06:42:00 - 00:06:45:19 come out and take a family of four to a racetrack for X amount of dollars. 00:06:46:02 - 00:06:50:04 And, you know, we try to do the things for the competitors where we don't, 00:06:50:13 - 00:06:54:09 you know, buy two, three, four sets of tires, we buy five, 00:06:54:17 - 00:06:58:03 we run 99 laps because we don't run 200, 250 00:06:58:03 - 00:07:02:01 because every, you know, a thousand laps, you got to refurbish the engine. 00:07:02:01 - 00:07:04:18 It's $8,000 or $10,000. So you keep the cost down. 00:07:04:18 - 00:07:08:13 So everything that we do really realistically is 00:07:08:13 - 00:07:12:11 to, you know, explain to your wife or your significant other 00:07:13:10 - 00:07:14:18 that I'll go take a chance on 00:07:14:18 - 00:07:18:12 winning $1000 or $2000 for $800 to $1000. 00:07:18:23 - 00:07:21:12 You know, I'd be no different than you wanting to go to the casino 00:07:21:12 - 00:07:25:14 and gamble for a weekend or or whatever, but at the same time, 00:07:26:03 - 00:07:29:22 you can't go explain that you're spending $10,000 to go win four, 00:07:30:05 - 00:07:33:05 because eventually somebody's going to realize this is dumb. 00:07:33:06 - 00:07:36:01 This is not smart to do. 00:07:36:01 - 00:07:38:06 Could you say the math don't math? 00:07:38:06 - 00:07:40:11 It, don't math. No way. 00:07:40:11 - 00:07:42:24 And so trying to keep the cost down. 00:07:42:24 - 00:07:47:10 Try to keeping it local, trying to keep it in the communities that, 00:07:47:10 - 00:07:50:18 you know, sometimes don't have a lot to do on the weekend. 00:07:50:18 - 00:07:54:15 And it's it's it's pretty significant to see people run to Bowman Gray 00:07:54:15 - 00:07:58:08 every night or run to Franklin County every Saturday night, or run to South 00:07:58:08 - 00:08:02:11 Boston every, you know, Langley, you know, all these Virginia tracks. 00:08:02:11 - 00:08:03:15 It's a destination. 00:08:03:15 - 00:08:06:17 And that's why they pack 3000 or 4000 people in there. 00:08:06:17 - 00:08:10:10 And then a special event like ours, you know, you can do 9000 people there. 00:08:10:10 - 00:08:15:11 I mean, that becomes a significant location not only for the economy, 00:08:15:24 - 00:08:19:03 you know, because you're bringing outside people coming into the event. 00:08:19:05 - 00:08:23:01 It's traveling, it's buying fuel, it's spending hotels 00:08:23:01 - 00:08:24:21 that, you know, coming to that event. 00:08:26:19 - 00:08:27:01 It's a 00:08:27:01 - 00:08:30:09 significant it's a significant thing to be a part of the community 00:08:31:05 - 00:08:33:12 and especially in the grassroots areas, 00:08:33:12 - 00:08:36:13 that we go to where there's not a lot going on. 00:08:36:23 - 00:08:39:07 And I love that, by the way. 00:08:39:07 - 00:08:43:21 You know, for those, because we are going to get into our partnerships, and why 00:08:44:07 - 00:08:45:21 public private partnerships, 00:08:45:21 - 00:08:48:24 why these types of partnerships are actually going to be important. 00:08:49:11 - 00:08:51:02 But, you know, I'm a little bit of a hit you up. 00:08:51:02 - 00:08:52:06 You know, you took me to the track. 00:08:52:06 - 00:08:55:06 So now I actually have looked at, you know, race car. 00:08:55:08 - 00:08:57:06 Can you give for those, there 00:08:57:06 - 00:09:00:11 going to be many who will hear this podcast who this may be 00:09:00:11 - 00:09:04:15 the first time they think about how race car started, how racing started. 00:09:04:24 - 00:09:08:12 What why do we talk about modified racing is really bringing it 00:09:08:12 - 00:09:10:10 all back home for us? 00:09:10:10 - 00:09:11:07 Could you just 00:09:11:07 - 00:09:15:14 in a very brief way oriented because this the folks who were saying modify 00:09:15:18 - 00:09:16:14 what the? 00:09:16:14 - 00:09:19:06 So could you give the history of racing 00:09:19:06 - 00:09:22:20 in a very short synopsis and why Virginia is important in that? 00:09:23:03 - 00:09:25:13 Yeah. So short in all reality, 00:09:26:12 - 00:09:27:24 it's started 00:09:27:24 - 00:09:32:00 very, very early on and basically 00:09:32:00 - 00:09:35:17 moving liquid moonshine from state to state, 00:09:36:01 - 00:09:41:01 and basically in the short term, my car is faster than your car. 00:09:41:07 - 00:09:43:20 Well, let's just go down to this little dirt 00:09:43:20 - 00:09:46:20 circle down here and let's just race them and let's see. 00:09:47:06 - 00:09:51:15 And so then it became a competition all the way down from Atlanta, 00:09:52:02 - 00:09:54:06 you know, all the way up to, 00:09:54:06 - 00:09:57:05 you know, northern Pennsylvania, that, you know, this 00:09:57:05 - 00:09:59:10 this bootlegger, this moonshiner was gonna, 00:09:59:10 - 00:10:02:07 you know, come through and he's got the fastest hot rod. 00:10:02:07 - 00:10:05:09 And so it became, I can build a faster hot rod and you. 00:10:05:09 - 00:10:09:10 And so then somebody decided, bingo, let's, let's let's sanction this. 00:10:09:12 - 00:10:13:05 The sanction is instead of the cops trying to run after us, and, you know, 00:10:13:11 - 00:10:16:14 it being moonshine in the back and people's lives at risk. 00:10:16:14 - 00:10:19:16 Let's do this. And so it's not a stock car. 00:10:19:23 - 00:10:20:21 You say what is stock? 00:10:20:21 - 00:10:23:21 Stock is like a normal tempered car 00:10:23:22 - 00:10:27:18 where it has fenders and you know it's got the same motor. 00:10:27:18 - 00:10:29:18 It's is totally opposite. 00:10:29:18 - 00:10:32:18 These things derive from taking the fenders off 00:10:33:03 - 00:10:37:08 to have an open wheels less drag lower to the ground. 00:10:37:15 - 00:10:38:05 And it's big. 00:10:38:05 - 00:10:42:11 A big block as you can buy or build back in the day, like Junior Johnson, 00:10:42:11 - 00:10:46:11 who was not only building his own cars, you know, to move the moonshine, 00:10:46:11 - 00:10:50:11 but he was also, you know, turning a lick or two so he can sell it. 00:10:50:22 - 00:10:55:14 And so it became to the point where it became a competition 00:10:56:01 - 00:11:01:00 of the fastest, driver and the most skilled driver in the fastest car. 00:11:01:00 - 00:11:04:24 And it's kind of how it became modified because the motor was modified, 00:11:05:05 - 00:11:08:02 the chassis was modified, everything was modified. 00:11:08:02 - 00:11:11:02 And it actually when NASCAR started, this became 00:11:11:02 - 00:11:15:00 the longest running sanction that NASCAR put together. 00:11:15:00 - 00:11:18:06 It's the first basically race car that started was a modified. 00:11:18:12 - 00:11:23:14 And so it's been going, you know, since 40s and 50s. 00:11:23:16 - 00:11:28:16 Red Baron won the first championship, you know, and he was an airline 00:11:28:24 - 00:11:32:23 fighter pilot from over in the war. 00:11:33:07 - 00:11:34:02 He came over here 00:11:34:02 - 00:11:37:17 and he won the championship when they first put the sanction together. 00:11:38:04 - 00:11:39:11 And it's been going ever since. 00:11:39:11 - 00:11:42:12 And these modifieds, if you if you've never been to a modified race, 00:11:43:00 - 00:11:44:13 these modifieds are slick. 00:11:44:13 - 00:11:46:06 They're low to the ground. 00:11:46:06 - 00:11:49:06 These modifieds are 650 horsepower. 00:11:49:07 - 00:11:52:04 They sound like the ground trembling. 00:11:52:04 - 00:11:55:20 It sounds like a an earthquake on steroids. 00:11:55:23 - 00:11:57:02 I mean, I'm being honest. 00:11:57:02 - 00:12:01:17 It smells like a true built motor should smell 00:12:01:17 - 00:12:05:10 like with fuel, gasoline and all combined burning. 00:12:05:16 - 00:12:08:06 I mean, it's just it's it's awesome. 00:12:08:06 - 00:12:10:14 And actually, that's the short version. 00:12:10:14 - 00:12:13:06 And actually you got to ride one, 00:12:13:06 - 00:12:16:02 which is probably one of the coolest things I've seen this year. 00:12:18:02 - 00:12:18:19 Listen, 00:12:18:19 - 00:12:21:19 I was praying all the way, but it all worked out. 00:12:22:03 - 00:12:25:08 It was probably the most fun I think I've ever had in a car. 00:12:25:08 - 00:12:28:08 And, the best experience I think I've ever had ever. 00:12:28:11 - 00:12:31:14 So, you know, it's got me thinking about, you know, 00:12:32:10 - 00:12:35:14 again, rural communities are thinking about creative ways. 00:12:35:14 - 00:12:37:06 And I got to give credit to, 00:12:37:06 - 00:12:40:23 Senator Stanley because he is, and many of the other, 00:12:41:07 - 00:12:44:01 legislators, in the rural community 00:12:44:01 - 00:12:47:19 for opening up my eyes into his one word. 00:12:48:15 - 00:12:50:08 If you're going to get to some of these communities, 00:12:50:08 - 00:12:53:08 you got to go to where they where they, where their at. 00:12:53:11 - 00:12:58:20 And his introduction, of of of me to you 00:12:59:02 - 00:13:03:24 is probably one of the most important moments for me in recognizing 00:13:03:24 - 00:13:07:07 that frequently we want to do good sometimes in the health field, 00:13:07:19 - 00:13:10:22 but we're not always where the money is, so to speak. 00:13:11:06 - 00:13:14:06 And, what I loved about our partnership 00:13:14:17 - 00:13:18:17 was that we, started understanding that we have the same goal 00:13:19:03 - 00:13:22:17 to make people better and to give them moments 00:13:22:17 - 00:13:28:17 where they can feel better and move better and, and just be better overall. 00:13:28:17 - 00:13:30:24 And, I think that that partnership 00:13:31:23 - 00:13:32:16 between, 00:13:32:16 - 00:13:36:17 and this emerging partnership between Massey 00:13:37:02 - 00:13:40:16 and I think the Modified Racing Series is one that 00:13:40:16 - 00:13:44:13 I have to say has been really an honor for me to be a part of. 00:13:44:19 - 00:13:47:20 So could you tell me why anyone interested, though, 00:13:47:20 - 00:13:50:20 in Modified Racing will let a crazy cancer center director, 00:13:51:24 - 00:13:54:24 you know, partner with the Modified Race Series? 00:13:56:00 - 00:13:57:18 Well, first of all, 00:13:57:18 - 00:14:00:06 I think anybody that partners with us, 00:14:00:06 - 00:14:03:06 or, you know, with you guys or anybody else, 00:14:03:15 - 00:14:07:03 they really are into the local 00:14:07:19 - 00:14:10:19 realm 00:14:10:22 - 00:14:12:10 of the common person, right? 00:14:12:10 - 00:14:13:14 It's a blue collar person. 00:14:13:14 - 00:14:14:19 Right? 00:14:14:19 - 00:14:17:10 It's because they're there working each and every day. 00:14:17:10 - 00:14:19:09 They're there, you know, taking their family. 00:14:19:09 - 00:14:23:24 They're all about supporting the communities and stuff of that nature. 00:14:23:24 - 00:14:27:00 And Senator Stanley got involved in it 00:14:27:12 - 00:14:32:20 a few years ago because he came to motor mile 00:14:33:00 - 00:14:36:15 and asked me about what my long term goal was. 00:14:37:03 - 00:14:41:06 And, you know, I've had a passion to bring as many people with me. 00:14:41:06 - 00:14:44:11 Look, when we win we all win right, every one of us. 00:14:44:11 - 00:14:50:09 And the reason we do that is because we know what 00:14:50:09 - 00:14:54:15 we're trying to get accomplished, which is to take care of that, 00:14:55:06 - 00:14:58:17 that fan base, that customer, that competitor, 00:14:58:17 - 00:15:03:05 that owner, the track facility we're trying to take care of everybody. 00:15:03:05 - 00:15:07:20 And the Smart Modified tour, you know, is a touring series 00:15:07:20 - 00:15:12:18 that really takes care of their sponsors because they w ant to get the message 00:15:12:24 - 00:15:16:02 and they want value into their sponsor to be a part of us. 00:15:16:02 - 00:15:18:20 And I and I learned that at a long time ago, 00:15:18:20 - 00:15:21:15 you know, from MnMs and Coca-Cola and the rest of it. 00:15:21:15 - 00:15:22:10 What are we doing it for? 00:15:22:10 - 00:15:26:10 It's just not about our name, but it's usually education, right? 00:15:26:10 - 00:15:30:24 It's usually education is what you're trying to get across with your brand 00:15:30:24 - 00:15:32:10 and why you're advertising. 00:15:32:10 - 00:15:36:00 Because, number one, a lot of people don't know... 00:15:36:00 - 00:15:39:15 Let’s use Massey in this case, a lot of people don't know 00:15:39:15 - 00:15:43:11 how successful y'all are of treating certain cancer. 00:15:43:11 - 00:15:44:13 Right. 00:15:44:13 - 00:15:47:18 And how do you go about getting that? 00:15:47:18 - 00:15:51:17 And and if I can open the door for every one of our fan base, 00:15:52:14 - 00:15:56:22 you know, whether it's 9000 people at the racetrack this weekend or whether it's 00:15:56:22 - 00:16:01:08 the millions that follow us on Facebook and social media through flow, 00:16:02:02 - 00:16:05:10 is if I can give them an opportunity to use it as an outlet 00:16:06:05 - 00:16:10:03 that they weren't aware of before, especially with the rate 00:16:10:03 - 00:16:15:06 that you guys have in attacking that they why not give it to them? 00:16:15:12 - 00:16:18:21 You don't want to little, you don't want a little piece of the pie, right? 00:16:19:07 - 00:16:20:16 You want a whole pie. 00:16:20:16 - 00:16:23:03 You don't want one of the best doctors. 00:16:23:03 - 00:16:24:18 You want all the best doctors. 00:16:24:18 - 00:16:26:16 You don't want one network. 00:16:26:16 - 00:16:28:21 You want all the network. You know why? 00:16:28:21 - 00:16:33:08 Because when you're thrust into these things, that's unexpected. 00:16:33:09 - 00:16:34:20 You don't know what you're fighting. 00:16:34:20 - 00:16:36:23 You want everybody to fight with you, right? 00:16:36:23 - 00:16:39:00 You want to ask somebody collected. 00:16:39:00 - 00:16:40:23 And let's attack this. 00:16:40:23 - 00:16:45:14 And so for it for Massey to come in and be a part of our series 00:16:46:00 - 00:16:49:16 to me, benefits us more than it benefits Massey. 00:16:49:16 - 00:16:50:19 And I'm gonna tell you why. 00:16:50:19 - 00:16:54:15 Because we see the end result from what you guys have put in the hard work. 00:16:55:14 - 00:16:56:21 So, this is 00:16:56:21 - 00:16:59:21 where I'm at the racetrack today, so this is going to be an interruption. 00:16:59:23 - 00:17:00:18 little early. Yeah. 00:17:00:18 - 00:17:02:01 So we're we're, 00:17:02:01 - 00:17:05:21 let everybody know we're getting ready to open the gates here just a little bit. 00:17:05:24 - 00:17:07:18 Well, you know what? 00:17:07:18 - 00:17:09:11 You know what, brother Chris? 00:17:09:11 - 00:17:12:17 What I'm hoping is I was kind of hoping to keep you online 00:17:12:17 - 00:17:17:06 because I'm hoping you will take us around the track or something. 00:17:17:16 - 00:17:20:00 I'm getting ready to. Man listen. 00:17:20:00 - 00:17:21:02 So you know what you just said 00:17:21:02 - 00:17:24:03 that was really important for me is this concept of one team, one fight. 00:17:24:03 - 00:17:27:18 And that many people believe, 00:17:28:12 - 00:17:31:12 they're holding on to old beliefs from the 1970s, 00:17:31:22 - 00:17:35:09 that when you get cancer, there's not a dog on thing you can do about it. 00:17:35:22 - 00:17:39:21 That's not been true in fact, 36% more Americans in 00:17:39:21 - 00:17:44:02 the United States are living with cancer than they were in 1991. 00:17:44:16 - 00:17:49:02 So 31, 36% more people are living with cancer, 00:17:49:19 - 00:17:52:16 today than relative to 1991. 00:17:52:16 - 00:17:55:05 And that just didn't happen because people just happened to started 00:17:55:05 - 00:17:58:05 drinking carrot juice and taking, you know, even kale. 00:17:58:06 - 00:18:01:12 It started because we really have had 00:18:01:12 - 00:18:04:20 the science that taxpayer dollars go to. 00:18:04:20 - 00:18:07:21 You has really been working to new modern day 00:18:07:21 - 00:18:11:08 miracles of medicines that we now know how to treat. 00:18:11:08 - 00:18:15:20 In fact, I was telling someone, for example, with melanomas in the 19... 00:18:15:20 - 00:18:18:20 between, before 2010, 00:18:18:21 - 00:18:21:15 if you had advanced stage melanoma, you might as well 00:18:21:15 - 00:18:24:24 just been getting your will and your in your orders in affair. 00:18:25:07 - 00:18:28:17 Since 2010, with the new medicines we've had that 00:18:28:22 - 00:18:31:23 survivorship for melanomas is close to nine over 90%. 00:18:32:10 - 00:18:35:03 Prostate cancer deaths have been cut in half, breast 00:18:35:03 - 00:18:36:12 cancers have been doing great. 00:18:36:12 - 00:18:38:24 Lung cancer has been substantially reduced. 00:18:38:24 - 00:18:41:21 In fact, when I was when I was a medical student, 00:18:41:21 - 00:18:45:02 we used to say that, if you had lung cancer, that was the end of the road. 00:18:45:02 - 00:18:48:07 There wasn't a whole lot we could do for you other than tell you to go to Disney. 00:18:48:14 - 00:18:52:05 But now, you know, since, 00:18:52:05 - 00:18:57:10 I started in the 1960s, which was 6%, five years survival from lung cancer. 00:18:57:10 - 00:18:59:14 And then when I was a medical student was 12. 00:18:59:14 - 00:19:02:16 It's near dawn on 30 over 25 to 30%. 00:19:03:09 - 00:19:06:10 So what we want to make sure is that that's one team, one fight 00:19:06:10 - 00:19:10:13 that partnering with you allows us to do exactly what you said, Chris, and that is 00:19:10:14 - 00:19:15:18 be a team that ultimately wants to make sure that the best of the science 00:19:15:18 - 00:19:20:12 is also made aware to folks within our rural areas, 00:19:20:12 - 00:19:22:08 and that we work with the rural health systems 00:19:22:08 - 00:19:23:10 in that to make sure 00:19:23:10 - 00:19:26:14 that people have the fighting chance that the science is working for them, too. 00:19:27:11 - 00:19:30:11 Yep. And, you know, and if I'm thinking about it, 00:19:30:21 - 00:19:35:13 I mean, that's all about care is I want to know that I've got people 00:19:36:00 - 00:19:39:21 that are out there smarter than I am, that are on my team 00:19:40:05 - 00:19:44:04 pushing for the best curable option I have. 00:19:44:14 - 00:19:46:03 And that's what you care about, right? 00:19:46:03 - 00:19:47:13 And then you go attack it, 00:19:48:18 - 00:19:49:05 you know, and the 00:19:49:05 - 00:19:52:06 good Lord's benefit along with it, you know what I'm saying? 00:19:52:07 - 00:19:54:01 Then, you know, that's. What we're going to do. 00:19:54:01 - 00:19:58:10 So, I mean, I think this whole partnership benefits us way 00:19:58:10 - 00:20:00:02 more than it benefits Massey. 00:20:00:02 - 00:20:04:09 Because now we can get the information out to everyone 00:20:04:09 - 00:20:08:05 about how we can do it and how they can have those options. 00:20:08:19 - 00:20:12:08 And any person out there that has the option 00:20:12:08 - 00:20:16:05 and has a, a curable rate, then it's a win win. 00:20:16:08 - 00:20:18:01 It's a win win for everybody involved. 00:20:18:01 - 00:20:20:07 And that's that's the reason I love the partnership. 00:20:20:07 - 00:20:22:08 Man, listen I love that. I love that. 00:20:22:08 - 00:20:26:10 Now I know we hope we coming up on I think the last five minutes or so. 00:20:26:19 - 00:20:30:15 And so I don't know if you could, explain to us, 00:20:30:15 - 00:20:33:15 when you go to the racetrack, what we're going to see. 00:20:33:16 - 00:20:37:04 But I am, this is a little bit of a podcast, so 00:20:37:08 - 00:20:40:04 we're going to need you to explain as you're going through, because, 00:20:40:04 - 00:20:43:10 I can only tell you that when, when I was on your racetrack... 00:20:43:15 - 00:20:47:14 You know, the only thing I was thinking about is, is the seatbelt going to work? 00:20:47:20 - 00:20:48:06 I mean, the 00:20:48:06 - 00:20:51:11 the pure, you’re an experienced guy, so you're going to do better than that. 00:20:52:18 - 00:20:54:04 that's that's Ronald Queen. 00:20:54:04 - 00:20:57:04 So we're going into the North Wilkesboro Speedway. 00:20:57:24 - 00:21:01:12 So this is the famous North Wilkesboro that just got put back 00:21:01:12 - 00:21:04:12 on the map two years ago by a smart modified tour. 00:21:05:05 - 00:21:07:20 And we're getting ready to do some hot laps. 00:21:07:20 - 00:21:09:22 So we're going to take a right. 00:21:09:22 - 00:21:12:05 And so you're actually on the racetrack. 00:21:12:05 - 00:21:17:07 This racetrack was built in the 40s, and 00:21:17:07 - 00:21:20:13 it was shut down for about 20 some years. 00:21:20:13 - 00:21:23:19 And then we resurrected it back about three years ago. 00:21:24:17 - 00:21:27:17 Ryan Newman won the first race back. 00:21:27:21 - 00:21:30:18 The old scoreboard up there, that’s a manual. 00:21:30:18 - 00:21:31:18 It's not electronic. 00:21:31:18 - 00:21:34:18 That's a manual scoreboard. 00:21:36:02 - 00:21:38:19 See, that thing is, you barely can see him hanging off there. 00:21:38:19 - 00:21:40:15 Hanging off the side. 00:21:40:15 - 00:21:41:19 Oh, wow. 00:21:41:19 - 00:21:44:11 Yeah.
