And so what are some ideas 00:09:40.610 --> 00:09:44.509 that you have to some of those club officers 00:09:44.509 --> 00:09:48.590 out there who are trying to attract new people 00:09:48.590 --> 00:09:52.370 and keep the ones that they have? And, you know, although 00:09:55.490 --> 00:09:57.750 we're focusing on ham radio, I speak to a lot 00:09:57.750 --> 00:10:01.450 of groups like Lions and Kiwanis and Optimist 00:10:01.450 --> 00:10:05.110 Clubs and the Rotary Clubs and veterans organizations 00:10:05.110 --> 00:10:09.250 and declining membership and aging membership 00:10:09.250 --> 00:10:12.509 is a problem kind of across the board for all 00:10:12.509 --> 00:10:15.470 of us. And there's a lot of reasons for that. 00:10:16.389 --> 00:10:21.029 I think one of the big reasons is that as human 00:10:21.029 --> 00:10:23.789 beings a lot of times change is kind of difficult 00:10:23.789 --> 00:10:27.360 for us. and we don't always understand what worked 00:10:27.360 --> 00:10:31.600 30 years ago may not work today. We kind of have 00:10:31.600 --> 00:10:34.980 a hard time grasping that. So, you know, it's 00:10:34.980 --> 00:10:37.899 really important that we change with the times, 00:10:37.899 --> 00:10:40.600 but it's also important that we not change just 00:10:40.600 --> 00:10:44.440 for the sake of change, which I've seen some 00:10:44.440 --> 00:10:48.840 clubs do. I think we live in a time when people 00:10:48.840 --> 00:10:53.230 really want to give back to the community. So 00:10:53.230 --> 00:10:55.429 I think for a club to grow, especially a ham 00:10:55.429 --> 00:10:58.690 radio club, we have a lot to offer. You know, 00:10:58.950 --> 00:11:02.029 the obvious one is Skywarn, protecting life and 00:11:02.029 --> 00:11:06.350 property. Perhaps a not so obvious one is the 00:11:06.350 --> 00:11:11.049 opportunity to teach young people in the art 00:11:11.049 --> 00:11:18.840 of science, engineering, and electronics. And 00:11:18.840 --> 00:11:23.299 I think that if we really start hammering on 00:11:23.299 --> 00:11:26.120 the educational opportunities, that will really 00:11:26.120 --> 00:11:29.220 help us a lot. Those are kind of being neglected 00:11:29.220 --> 00:11:31.519 a lot in schools, I think. I'm sure you're familiar 00:11:31.519 --> 00:11:38.100 with the term STEM. Oh, yes. Yeah. But I think 00:11:38.100 --> 00:11:40.740 that's one thing that hams can really, you know, 00:11:40.740 --> 00:11:45.799 we have a history of being at the forefront in 00:11:45.799 --> 00:11:49.659 innovation. And I think it's time for us to kind 00:11:49.659 --> 00:11:54.899 of reclaim that a little bit. I could talk 00:14:16.240 --> 00:14:19.259 a little bit more about that. Um, maybe they 00:14:19.259 --> 00:14:22.299 have a real interest in, uh, public service or 00:14:22.299 --> 00:14:25.100 in liaisoning with a police department or a fire 00:14:25.100 --> 00:14:26.899 department.
