So imagine 10 meters 00:08:54.340 --> 00:08:57.379 was pretty hot. Although these were local amateurs 00:08:57.379 --> 00:09:00.679 in New York. The state of New Yorker, I think, 00:09:00.820 --> 00:09:05.440 talking amongst themselves. So they were licensed 00:09:05.440 --> 00:09:11.620 25 years. came up with this idea. We've been 00:09:11.620 --> 00:09:14.759 licensed 25 years, maybe we should start an organization 00:09:14.759 --> 00:09:18.919 for those who were licensed 25 years or more. 00:09:20.279 --> 00:09:22.759 So the idea originated with this 10 meter round 00:09:22.759 --> 00:09:29.259 table and by December 5 of 1947 a meeting was 00:09:29.259 --> 00:09:31.539 held in the upstairs room of Papa's Restaurant 00:09:31.539 --> 00:09:35.779 on 14th Street in New York City. gathered were 00:09:35.779 --> 00:09:40.299 34 young men who unknowingly were going to make 00:09:40.299 --> 00:09:44.000 amateur radio wireless history. And of course 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:46.620 that history today, and we're celebrating our 00:09:46.620 --> 00:09:50.419 70th anniversary this year, is the Quarter Century 00:09:50.419 --> 00:09:54.740 Wireless Association. And that's how it all started, 00:09:54.899 --> 00:10:00.100 Neil. All right, very good. So the big requirement 00:10:00.100 --> 00:10:04.330 is that you've been licensed for the 25 years 00:10:04.330 --> 00:10:08.429 and I think actually it was a little bit earlier 00:10:08.429 --> 00:10:12.370 because I think the rule is the year of that 00:10:12.370 --> 00:10:17.230 happening so if I remember right I got in at 00:10:17.230 --> 00:10:22.470 age 29 I wasn't quite 30 yet well that's correct 00:10:22.470 --> 00:10:26.570 we take the year that you were licensed not necessarily 00:10:26.570 --> 00:10:29.549 the month so you could have been licensed in 00:10:29.549 --> 00:10:34.059 December of that year, but you can join in January. 00:10:36.220 --> 00:10:40.000 And I might add, you do not need to be continuously 00:10:40.000 --> 00:10:45.539 licensed.
