So with ARL 00:09:12.409 --> 00:09:14.570 and us, we both decided that it would be best 00:09:14.570 --> 00:09:19.750 to postpone hamcation and the ARL National Convention 00:09:19.750 --> 00:09:25.110 until 2022 because of that. Just like I said, 00:09:25.370 --> 00:09:30.309 it's a lot goes into it. A lot of items. Most 00:09:30.309 --> 00:09:32.549 people just think it's the COVID item. It's not 00:09:32.549 --> 00:09:36.029 only that, it's people that we work with. The 00:09:36.029 --> 00:09:39.350 fairgrounds what type of stipulations we would 00:09:39.350 --> 00:09:45.470 have to have to have a show even our Outside 00:09:45.470 --> 00:09:48.809 vendors that we come in for like convention services 00:09:48.809 --> 00:09:52.210 Other vendors that we use someone's still closed. 00:09:52.210 --> 00:09:54.490 They're not sure when they're gonna be open back 00:09:54.490 --> 00:09:58.690 up So all this weighed in on our decision to 00:09:58.690 --> 00:10:04.070 postpone the show this year Yeah, I know you 00:10:04.070 --> 00:10:07.230 know, all kinds of other shows, not just ham 00:10:07.230 --> 00:10:12.169 radio shows have run into, um, you know, some 00:10:12.169 --> 00:10:16.250 issues of, you know, are the, are the people 00:10:16.250 --> 00:10:18.490 going to come or the vendors going to come or 00:10:18.490 --> 00:10:20.590 people going to cancel and the ones that have 00:10:20.590 --> 00:10:23.889 gone ahead a lot of times, you know, all of a 00:10:23.889 --> 00:10:27.389 sudden vendors start canceling and, and now you're 00:10:27.389 --> 00:10:33.500 left with You know a Balance sheet that that's 00:10:33.500 --> 00:10:36.559 not going to work and you're and you're gonna 00:10:36.559 --> 00:10:42.240 have significant issues and then You know you 00:10:42.240 --> 00:10:46.220 have all kinds of other issues with you know 00:10:46.220 --> 00:10:49.120 having a drop in the show and how things are 00:10:49.120 --> 00:10:53.460 going and So I know it's it's a tough decision 00:10:53.460 --> 00:10:57.419 to make But, um, it's one that you had to make 00:10:57.419 --> 00:11:01.120 and, um, you know, you, you saw the data and 00:11:01.120 --> 00:11:05.179 it came in and kind of, you know, told you what 00:11:05.179 --> 00:11:09.419 to do. It sounds like. Yeah. We were trying to 00:11:09.419 --> 00:11:12.000 hold off until our original date was December 00:11:12.000 --> 00:11:15.940 1st, so go or no go date. We don't think people would enjoy 00:11:46.059 --> 00:11:48.899 the show. Uh, and then the same time, like you 00:11:48.899 --> 00:11:51.919 said, vendors, stuff like that was already canceling 00:11:51.919 --> 00:11:54.159 and without vendors, we're not going to have 00:11:54.159 --> 00:11:56.320 visitors and without visitors, the vendors ain't 00:11:56.320 --> 00:11:59.559 gonna want to come. So, um, it's one of those, 00:11:59.559 --> 00:12:03.240 um, hard decisions, but we did make it. And, 00:12:03.720 --> 00:12:08.059 um, um, but I'm not sure if John had anything 00:12:08.059 --> 00:12:10.980 to add about that part. They have HR laws that they 00:12:43.080 --> 00:12:46.879 have to deal with And some of these HR laws don't 00:12:46.879 --> 00:12:50.460 allow them to send employees out during a pandemic 00:12:50.460 --> 00:12:54.399 so they wouldn't be able to come be able to sit 00:12:54.399 --> 00:12:57.789 there and and have or be part of the show, because 00:12:57.789 --> 00:12:59.610 they wouldn't be able to send any of the their 00:12:59.610 --> 00:13:02.509 employees and stuff with them. So those are things 00:13:02.509 --> 00:13:04.970 that we had to think about, too. And it was it 00:13:04.970 --> 00:13:06.669 was a weighing decision that we just had to sit 00:13:06.669 --> 00:13:10.190 there and make. Because shortly after 00:13:22.029 --> 00:13:24.289 the show was over with in February, this one 00:13:24.289 --> 00:13:26.889 pretty much United States started to shut down 00:13:26.889 --> 00:13:29.009 and we thought well we'd be lucky enough we will 00:13:29.009 --> 00:13:31.889 be one of the first shows in 2021 and have a 00:13:31.889 --> 00:13:34.110 good show again and stuff but you know we're 00:13:34.110 --> 00:13:36.850 just not there yet to the point that it's uh 00:13:36.960 --> 00:13:39.399 people are feeling comfortable enough to travel, 00:13:40.019 --> 00:13:42.960 you know, travel either by plane or through state 00:13:42.960 --> 00:13:45.779 lines. There are restrictions yet where some 00:13:45.779 --> 00:13:48.919 people have to quarantine once they go back home. 00:13:49.259 --> 00:13:51.259 So there's so many different things involved 00:13:51.259 --> 00:13:54.240 in the decision that is tough. And one of the 00:13:54.240 --> 00:14:02.460 even the tougher parts of the decision was Hamcation 00:14:02.460 --> 00:14:05.840 and OERC, Orlando Amateur Radio Club, donate 00:14:06.919 --> 00:14:10.799 to a lot of the clubs and nonprofit organizations 00:14:10.799 --> 00:14:16.200 locally who send volunteers to help put on hamcation. 00:14:17.139 --> 00:14:21.279 So the volunteers get to donate their hours back 00:14:21.279 --> 00:14:23.820 to their choice of a nonprofit organization. 00:14:24.720 --> 00:14:28.500 And, you know, we send out checks after hamcations 00:14:28.500 --> 00:14:30.480 over with and to help support these clubs and 00:14:30.480 --> 00:14:35.120 stuff. I mean, the support that 00:16:10.799 --> 00:16:14.169 we've gotten has been tremendous. So our commercial 00:16:14.169 --> 00:16:17.149 vendors have been very supportive. Everybody's 00:16:17.149 --> 00:16:20.950 looking forward to 2022. Most of them like us 00:16:20.950 --> 00:16:22.610 can't wait till it gets here. Yeah, the, um, ARL actually 00:17:58.109 --> 00:18:00.769 approached us also when we were talking about 00:18:00.769 --> 00:18:03.730 this that the hotel that they were going to use 00:18:03.730 --> 00:18:07.450 They had deadlines there to be able to be made 00:18:07.450 --> 00:18:13.250 also So they pretty much It cost a lot of money 00:18:13.250 --> 00:18:15.710 to put on the show for ARL for them to bring 00:18:15.710 --> 00:18:19.009 down everybody for a national convention And 00:18:19.009 --> 00:18:20.990 the later they waited they're in the same boat 00:18:20.990 --> 00:18:23.609 as us the later they waited the more penalties 00:18:23.609 --> 00:18:28.460 they were going to get by the hotel, uh, so it 00:18:28.460 --> 00:18:30.920 was actually sent to their executive committee, 00:18:30.920 --> 00:18:35.720 uh, executive board, um, to get it approved to, 00:18:35.720 --> 00:18:38.460 uh, postpone the national convention for this 00:18:38.460 --> 00:18:42.660 year and hold it in 2022.
