Yeah, okay. So the 00:08:27.009 --> 00:08:29.689 youth club at the Long Island CW club started 00:08:29.689 --> 00:08:34.669 really back in March of 2020 when pretty much 00:08:34.669 --> 00:08:36.629 everything was shutting down and there were starting 00:08:36.629 --> 00:08:40.750 to be, you know, restrictions and kids were being 00:08:40.750 --> 00:08:42.970 sent home from school and they were now being 00:08:42.970 --> 00:08:45.929 learning school, you know, learning from home 00:08:45.929 --> 00:08:49.610 and, you know, parents were at home learning, 00:08:49.970 --> 00:08:53.389 you know, working from home and I said to Howard, 00:08:53.570 --> 00:08:55.710 I said we should teach some classes for kids 00:08:55.710 --> 00:08:57.629 and see, you know, that will give them something 00:08:57.629 --> 00:09:01.350 to do during the day. And he thought it was a 00:09:01.350 --> 00:09:03.470 great idea. And I really thought it was only 00:09:03.470 --> 00:09:07.850 going to be Maybe a dozen kids from members of 00:09:07.850 --> 00:09:10.450 our club, which was about, you know, 400 people 00:09:10.450 --> 00:09:13.250 at that point, maybe 500 people at that point. 00:09:13.629 --> 00:09:17.049 And I figured maybe we get a dozen kids that 00:09:17.049 --> 00:09:20.529 grandkids or kids of the members that were interested 00:09:20.529 --> 00:09:23.149 in it. Well, they got promoted on Facebook and 00:09:23.149 --> 00:09:26.309 all over the place. And that first round in March, 00:09:26.509 --> 00:09:30.289 late March of 2020, we had 75 kids sign up for 00:09:30.289 --> 00:09:32.690 our first round of classes. What I thought was 00:09:32.690 --> 00:09:34.490 going to be a half an hour class three times 00:09:34.490 --> 00:09:37.190 a week ended up being every day. We ran three 00:09:37.190 --> 00:09:40.210 different age groups and it's taken off since 00:09:40.210 --> 00:09:43.649 then. We're going to cross the 300 number of 00:09:43.649 --> 00:09:46.990 kids that have taken CW classes and learned CW 00:09:46.990 --> 00:09:50.049 Morse code with this coming class that starts 00:09:50.049 --> 00:09:53.870 on April 5th this next month. So it's been really 00:09:53.870 --> 00:09:56.190 incredible to see the growth and the kids are 00:09:56.190 --> 00:09:59.769 amazing and they pick it up so quick. And it's 00:09:59.769 --> 00:10:01.470 really been a pleasure. I really get a lot of 00:10:01.470 --> 00:10:05.570 joy out of teaching the kids classes. Well, congratulations 00:10:05.570 --> 00:10:09.549 on the numbers. And they really 00:10:44.179 --> 00:10:47.000 like having this, this, this secret code that 00:10:47.000 --> 00:10:52.179 they can communicate with. That's not necessarily 00:10:52.179 --> 00:10:56.519 all that secret, but. But most other teachers 00:10:56.519 --> 00:11:00.679 don't know it. Right, exactly. So these kids are amazing. They really 00:12:11.450 --> 00:12:19.169 are and it's something that is been pretty predominant 00:12:19.169 --> 00:12:24.070 among the youth community. I work with Yoda and 00:12:24.070 --> 00:12:28.870 I look at the modes that they choose to use during 00:12:28.870 --> 00:12:34.539 Yoda month and many, many times it's CW. There's 00:12:34.539 --> 00:12:39.580 just a lot of really good CW operators out there 00:12:39.580 --> 00:12:42.659 in the youth community, and sometimes we don't 00:12:42.659 --> 00:12:46.940 always recognize that, but they are out there, 00:12:47.500 --> 00:12:51.500 and as you're seeing, obviously, it is growing 00:12:51.500 --> 00:12:56.860 by no stretch of the imagination. Yeah, I was 00:12:56.860 --> 00:12:58.360 really shocked. We've had kids 00:13:46.940 --> 00:13:49.519 as young as five. I had one young boy who was 00:13:49.519 --> 00:13:51.179 five years old. He couldn't even read yet. He 00:13:51.179 --> 00:13:52.899 was just learning sight words in kindergarten. 00:13:53.679 --> 00:13:57.220 and he would copy 100 % and he would say the 00:13:57.220 --> 00:13:58.820 letter out loud and his parent would write it 00:13:58.820 --> 00:14:01.460 down the letters as he said them and then he 00:14:01.460 --> 00:14:03.240 wouldn't even be able to read the word that I 00:14:03.240 --> 00:14:05.320 sent and he would say mom what does that say 00:14:05.320 --> 00:14:07.220 and she would say the word he would say the word 00:14:07.220 --> 00:14:09.120 and I said that's exactly right so right I mean 00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:12.220 it's just amazing how their brains can just absorb 00:14:12.220 --> 00:14:14.139 this and we know that from language acquisition 00:14:14.139 --> 00:14:16.159 anyway right it's easier to learn a language 00:14:16.159 --> 00:14:18.720 when you're a child than it is maybe when you're 00:14:18.720 --> 00:14:24.200 54 years old like I am Well, you're talking to 00:14:24.200 --> 00:14:27.820 another very similar example of that five years 00:14:27.820 --> 00:14:33.720 old. Yeah, it's really 00:16:21.179 --> 00:16:22.580 not any different than what we're doing with 00:16:22.580 --> 00:16:24.659 the youth classes. We do do them separately. 00:16:24.659 --> 00:16:26.659 We don't have adults with with youth learning 00:16:26.659 --> 00:16:29.700 CW. But the only thing, you know, the only thing 00:16:29.700 --> 00:16:32.779 is different is we do more characters in a setting 00:16:32.779 --> 00:16:35.340 with kids than we do with adults. Adults, we 00:16:35.340 --> 00:16:38.539 tend to do two characters at a time. We have 00:16:38.539 --> 00:16:40.860 a beginner's one class which covers the first 00:16:40.860 --> 00:16:44.399 20 characters. There's 40 characters in Morris 00:16:44.399 --> 00:16:46.700 code. And then we have a beginner's two that 00:16:46.700 --> 00:16:49.659 covers the next 20 characters and and kind of 00:16:49.659 --> 00:16:51.720 accumulates the number of characters that you're 00:16:51.720 --> 00:16:54.659 learning and also having to retain.
