It says this, then I saw a wild 00:04:15.599 --> 00:04:19.220 beast rising from the sea with 10 horns and seven 00:04:19.220 --> 00:04:22.839 heads. On its horns were 10 royal crowns and 00:04:22.839 --> 00:04:26.699 on its heads were blasphemous names. Now, Dr. 00:04:26.839 --> 00:04:28.779 Simmons has a footnote on this verse and it says 00:04:28.779 --> 00:04:31.879 the word beast, which is therawin, is used in 00:04:31.879 --> 00:04:34.480 the Bible for an evil person or in describing 00:04:34.480 --> 00:04:38.480 the sinful nature of man. It is found extensively 00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:42.639 in classical Greek describing wicked or pathetic 00:04:42.639 --> 00:04:47.420 people. A flatterer, excuse me, sorry, Plato 00:04:47.420 --> 00:04:50.639 applies it to people and says a flatterer is 00:04:50.639 --> 00:04:53.899 a horrid creature, therawin who does great harm. 00:04:56.230 --> 00:04:58.009 I'm just scrolling through some of these notes. 00:04:58.009 --> 00:05:00.569 I'm not gonna read them all. Typically in the 00:06:46.149 --> 00:06:48.649 scripture it would represent chaos and nations. 00:06:49.670 --> 00:06:52.490 A beast would represent a kingdom or empire. 00:06:52.910 --> 00:06:55.050 This is not talking about when it's using the 00:06:55.050 --> 00:06:59.230 word beast. It's not monsters. It's talking about 00:06:59.230 --> 00:07:01.850 empires. It's not talking about sci -fi movies. 00:07:02.170 --> 00:07:06.269 It's talking about empires. So again, the beast 00:07:06.269 --> 00:07:11.100 represents empire power, not a literal monster, 00:07:11.120 --> 00:07:12.899 and I think that's really just important for 00:07:12.899 --> 00:07:15.000 us to understand and get inside of our system, 00:07:15.459 --> 00:07:18.560 that there's so much symbolism and how they would 00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:21.439 have heard this scripture or these words then, 00:07:21.660 --> 00:07:24.399 they would have known the symbolism of what was 00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:28.060 being said. So let's remember just a couple of 00:07:28.060 --> 00:07:32.079 things. Christians lived under Roman rule. Rome 00:07:32.079 --> 00:07:34.139 would have demanded loyalty. They would have 00:07:34.139 --> 00:07:37.540 demanded submission, emperor honor, and some 00:07:37.540 --> 00:07:41.100 emperors even demanded worship. Rome would have 00:07:41.100 --> 00:07:43.399 looked powerful, Rome would have looked unstoppable, 00:07:43.660 --> 00:07:47.199 dominant, but Revelation reveals that Rome is 00:07:47.199 --> 00:07:52.699 not ultimate, Christ is. So, now that we've talked 00:07:52.699 --> 00:07:55.060 a little bit more about the beast, I wanna talk 00:07:55.060 --> 00:07:59.379 about the number 666. Revelation 13, 18 says 00:07:59.379 --> 00:08:02.939 this, this will require wisdom to understand. 00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:06.160 Let the one with insight interpret the numbers. 00:08:06.329 --> 00:08:09.129 the number of the wild beast, for it is humanity's 00:08:09.129 --> 00:08:13.269 number 666. I'm gonna read Dr. Simmons' footnote 00:08:13.269 --> 00:08:16.810 here. It says, or man's number. The Aramaic can 00:08:16.810 --> 00:08:19.670 be translated the son of Adam's number. There's 00:08:19.670 --> 00:08:22.129 no reference to the Antichrist in the book of 00:08:22.129 --> 00:08:27.009 Revelation. We went over that last week. The 00:08:27.009 --> 00:08:29.970 beast is equated to the nature of humanity. The 00:08:29.970 --> 00:08:34.330 number 666 is the number of man, not an incarnation 00:08:34.330 --> 00:08:39.340 of the devil, but human. nature and that's important 00:08:39.340 --> 00:08:43.539 for us to remember and grab hold of the number 00:08:43.539 --> 00:08:48.759 666 is the number of man not an incarnation of 00:08:48.759 --> 00:08:54.299 the devil the number six is always equated sorry 00:08:54.299 --> 00:08:57.799 the number six is always equated with man for 00:08:57.799 --> 00:09:02.580 man was created on which day the sixth day the 00:09:02.580 --> 00:09:05.600 wild beast rising out from the ground which Man 00:09:05.600 --> 00:09:08.759 was made from is the sin of man that wars against 00:09:08.759 --> 00:09:11.980 our souls and prevents the image of Christ from 00:09:11.980 --> 00:09:15.620 emerging in fullness within believers Now this 00:09:15.620 --> 00:09:17.639 is important. I want you to catch this the number 00:09:17.639 --> 00:09:23.240 666 cannot be literal for a literal number would 00:09:23.240 --> 00:09:26.940 need no wisdom to interpret Both the mark of 00:09:26.940 --> 00:09:29.600 the beast and the mark of the foreheads of God's 00:09:29.600 --> 00:09:33.200 faithful followers is a metaphor of the character 00:09:33.200 --> 00:09:37.139 of the beast revealed by thoughts and by actions. 00:09:37.659 --> 00:09:39.919 Thoughts would represent your forehead, actions 00:09:39.919 --> 00:09:42.840 would represent your hands. So by associating 00:09:42.840 --> 00:09:45.539 the wild beast with 666, John is pointing us 00:09:45.539 --> 00:09:48.639 to the dimensions of Nebuchadnezzar's idol and 00:09:48.639 --> 00:09:52.059 to Solomon's fall into sin. Daniel 3, 1, 1 Kings 00:09:52.059 --> 00:09:55.179 10, 14 is some of your reference points there. 00:09:56.039 --> 00:09:59.320 Now, let me give you some more information that 00:09:59.320 --> 00:10:02.730 I think is helpful. because in the ancient world 00:10:02.730 --> 00:10:07.529 letters had number values. Words could equal 00:10:07.529 --> 00:10:12.529 numbers, like a code for instance. It was called 00:10:12.529 --> 00:10:18.230 gematria. Gematria is an Assyrian Babylonian 00:10:18.230 --> 00:10:21.850 later Jewish method of interpreting Hebrew scriptures 00:10:21.850 --> 00:10:25.850 by assigning a numerical value to each letter. 00:10:26.200 --> 00:10:29.539 adding them up to find connections between words 00:10:29.539 --> 00:10:35.059 with identical sums. This was a widespread ancient 00:10:35.059 --> 00:10:38.019 practice of assigning numerical values to letters. 00:10:38.539 --> 00:10:42.340 It was used for secret communication such as 00:10:42.340 --> 00:10:46.679 666 code for Nero Caesar in Revelation designed 00:10:46.679 --> 00:10:49.840 to be interpreted by locals while avoiding detection. 00:10:51.279 --> 00:10:56.419 So the Nero Caesar, if you take his Hebrew Letters 00:10:56.419 --> 00:10:58.659 and you can Google this and research this yourself 00:10:58.659 --> 00:11:04.039 If you take his Hebrew letters Each letter is 00:11:04.039 --> 00:11:07.100 given a numerical value and if you add up his 00:11:07.100 --> 00:11:13.039 name You have the number 666 this has been recognized 00:11:13.039 --> 00:11:18.639 by many scholars that 666 would typically represent 00:11:18.639 --> 00:11:22.679 Emperor Nero Nero's Caesar What was he known 00:11:22.679 --> 00:11:25.779 for? Nero was known for persecution. He's known 00:11:25.779 --> 00:11:28.720 for violence. He's known for oppression of Christians. 00:11:29.480 --> 00:11:34.919 He became a symbol of imperial cruelty. So again, 00:11:35.139 --> 00:11:41.120 666 likely pointed to Nero, a ruler who persecuted 00:11:41.120 --> 00:11:44.659 believers. This is important for us to grab hold 00:11:44.659 --> 00:11:49.179 of. Some ancient manuscripts say that it could 00:11:49.179 --> 00:11:53.940 mean 616 which also equals Nero Caesar. It would 00:11:53.940 --> 00:11:56.779 have a slightly different spelling to make that. 00:11:57.720 --> 00:12:00.659 So I want you to think about the mark of the 00:12:00.659 --> 00:12:04.600 beast. That is the hope here. They would have 00:13:17.639 --> 00:13:21.399 been expected to offer incense to honor the emperor. 00:13:22.019 --> 00:13:25.740 That pressure would have created division. So 00:13:25.740 --> 00:13:30.320 again, the mark represents loyalty, not technology. 00:13:31.460 --> 00:13:37.620 Why does this matter? Because it's not Rome today, 00:13:37.840 --> 00:13:41.720 but there are still systems of power, oppression, 00:13:42.120 --> 00:13:45.240 false loyalty, all that stuff still exists. I 00:13:45.240 --> 00:13:48.100 want you to ask yourself, What today demands 00:13:48.100 --> 00:13:52.019 loyalty from you? Government? Money? Culture? 00:13:52.139 --> 00:13:56.279 Power? Think about this. What in your life is 00:13:56.279 --> 00:14:00.340 demanding loyalty that affects your thoughts 00:14:00.340 --> 00:14:02.360 and your thoughts would affect your deeds with 00:14:02.360 --> 00:14:05.200 your hands? So the danger is not number, just 00:14:05.200 --> 00:14:08.159 not the number 666 appearing. And that's just 00:14:08.159 --> 00:14:11.620 a number. Credit cards, social security numbers, 00:14:22.559 --> 00:14:27.139 vaccines, barcodes, UPC symbols, microchips, 00:14:27.460 --> 00:14:31.240 RFID chips, COVID vaccine, passport, smartphones, 00:14:31.659 --> 00:14:34.519 digital currency, government IDs, the internet. 00:14:34.940 --> 00:14:38.000 All of this stuff was labeled at somewhere along 00:14:38.000 --> 00:14:40.360 the line by different groups of people. This 00:14:40.360 --> 00:14:43.080 is the mark of the beast. I specifically remember 00:14:43.080 --> 00:14:48.580 hearing stuff like this during COVID. So it's 00:14:48.580 --> 00:14:50.940 just really important for us to grab hold of. 00:14:50.940 --> 00:14:53.460 These were predictions just like the whole Antichrist. 00:14:53.519 --> 00:14:56.559 What has been referenced to the Antichrist? What 00:14:56.559 --> 00:14:59.200 has been referenced to the mark of the beast? 00:14:59.279 --> 00:15:01.840 And all these things have failed repeatedly. 00:15:02.799 --> 00:15:05.940 And there's a contrast. Understand, there is 00:15:05.940 --> 00:15:08.940 a difference between the beast mark and God's 00:15:08.940 --> 00:15:11.940 mark. So Revelation shows two marks, not just 00:15:11.940 --> 00:15:13.779 one. I'm gonna read it to you in Revelation chapter 00:15:13.779 --> 00:15:16.480 seven, verses one through three. After this, 00:15:16.659 --> 00:15:18.879 I saw four angels standing at the four corners 00:15:18.879 --> 00:15:21.700 of the earth, and they were restraining the four 00:15:21.700 --> 00:15:23.820 winds so that no wind would blow on the land, 00:15:23.879 --> 00:15:28.220 on the sea, or on any tree. Then I saw another 00:15:28.220 --> 00:15:30.379 angel ascending from the east who had the seal 00:15:30.379 --> 00:15:32.759 of the living God He shouted out with a loud 00:15:32.759 --> 00:15:35.259 voice to the four angels who had been given power 00:15:35.259 --> 00:15:38.500 to damage earth and sea saying Do not damage 00:15:38.500 --> 00:15:41.120 the earth the sea or the trees until we have 00:15:41.120 --> 00:15:43.659 marked the loving servants of our God with our 00:15:43.659 --> 00:15:47.340 seal on their foreheads So the seal is the mind 00:15:47.340 --> 00:15:49.919 of dr.
