Most people at least 00:00:57.200 --> 00:00:59.520 in the church world, have a very clear picture 00:00:59.520 --> 00:01:02.399 of the Antichrist in their minds. But what surprises 00:01:02.399 --> 00:01:05.420 many people is that the Bible actually says less 00:01:05.420 --> 00:01:08.260 about the Antichrist than we think. So I want 00:01:08.260 --> 00:01:10.599 you to think about this question. Where does 00:01:10.599 --> 00:01:15.439 the word Antichrist appear? Where does the word 00:01:15.439 --> 00:01:19.120 Antichrist appear? Just think about that question 00:01:19.120 --> 00:01:21.980 before I just throw the answer out to you. I 00:01:21.980 --> 00:01:24.859 want you to think about it. So again, this is 00:01:24.859 --> 00:01:27.489 foundational, very important. I would have automatically 00:01:31.730 --> 00:01:36.250 said Revelation has to be but the word antichrist 00:01:36.250 --> 00:01:42.750 appears only in First John and Second John it 00:01:42.750 --> 00:01:45.230 does not appear in Revelation It does not appear 00:01:45.230 --> 00:01:47.870 in Daniel does not appear in Matthew some of 00:01:47.870 --> 00:01:49.969 the scriptures that we've looked at over the 00:01:49.969 --> 00:01:54.140 course of this series And sometimes that surprises 00:01:54.140 --> 00:01:58.040 a lot of people to find this out. So let's read 00:01:58.040 --> 00:02:01.180 the first one, 1 John 2, 18. It says, Dear children, 00:02:01.700 --> 00:02:04.719 the end of this age is near. Again, we talked 00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:07.379 about what age meant. It's not the end. He's 00:02:07.379 --> 00:02:10.979 not talking 2000 years out. The end of this age 00:02:10.979 --> 00:02:15.000 is near. You have heard that Antichrist is arising. 00:02:15.280 --> 00:02:18.759 And in fact, many enemies of Christ have already 00:02:18.759 --> 00:02:22.319 appeared. And this is how we know that we are 00:02:22.319 --> 00:02:26.280 living in the closing hour of this age. Again, 00:02:26.439 --> 00:02:29.159 one of my terms I like from David Thompson, don't 00:02:29.159 --> 00:02:32.159 check your brain at the door. Notice here it 00:02:32.159 --> 00:02:34.900 is not saying that one future antichrist is going 00:02:34.900 --> 00:02:38.199 to appear, but that many enemies of Christ have 00:02:38.199 --> 00:02:44.139 already appeared and are present right now. Scripture 00:02:44.139 --> 00:02:48.379 speaks of many antichrists, not just one future 00:02:48.379 --> 00:02:51.750 figure. So it's important I think to break down 00:02:51.750 --> 00:02:55.409 this word antichrist and I'm sure that you can 00:02:55.409 --> 00:02:59.129 probably tell it just means against Christ so 00:02:59.129 --> 00:03:02.810 you have Antichrist is not just a violent opposition. 00:03:02.849 --> 00:03:05.750 It is substitution. So it's anything that we're 00:03:05.750 --> 00:03:10.650 tries to replace Christ distort Christ or misrepresent 00:03:10.650 --> 00:03:14.830 Christ so it literally means against Christ or 00:03:14.830 --> 00:03:19.110 in place of Christ See a couple terms on this 00:03:20.730 --> 00:03:23.370 Antichrist means against or in place of Christ. 00:03:23.370 --> 00:03:25.590 This is not just a person. Because the Father and the Son 00:06:10.199 --> 00:06:13.680 are one. You cannot receive one and reject the 00:06:13.680 --> 00:06:19.220 other. Denial of Jesus is the definition of Antichrist. 00:06:19.620 --> 00:06:24.620 So just think Antichrist is anything that denies 00:06:24.620 --> 00:06:29.639 or replaces Jesus. Again, just think about that. 00:06:29.639 --> 00:06:32.519 Anytime you're hearing stuff that's opposing 00:06:32.519 --> 00:06:36.189 Jesus, trying to replace Jesus, that is a spirit 00:06:36.189 --> 00:06:40.189 of antichrist. It doesn't, listen, it doesn't 00:06:40.189 --> 00:06:44.069 mean that individual is an antichrist. Maybe 00:06:44.069 --> 00:06:47.170 they got some bad theology. Maybe they don't 00:06:47.170 --> 00:06:49.269 understand, maybe they've not been revealed truth 00:06:49.269 --> 00:06:53.430 yet. But that spirit there is a spirit of antichrist. 00:06:54.350 --> 00:06:57.470 So let's talk about that spirit of antichrist. 00:06:57.569 --> 00:07:01.269 We'll read 1st John chapter 4 verse 3. it says 00:07:01.269 --> 00:07:03.689 everyone who does not acknowledge that Jesus 00:07:03.689 --> 00:07:07.910 is from God has the spirit of Antichrist which 00:07:07.910 --> 00:07:11.550 you heard was coming and is already active in 00:07:11.550 --> 00:07:14.009 the world so pay attention again here we have 00:07:14.009 --> 00:07:17.209 it already active in the world it's not referring 00:07:17.209 --> 00:07:20.870 to a future man it is already present notice 00:07:20.870 --> 00:07:23.670 also the Antichrist is not only a person but 00:07:23.670 --> 00:07:26.870 again it's a spirit it's a mindset and it's a 00:07:26.870 --> 00:07:30.560 false teaching Early believers they face things 00:07:30.560 --> 00:07:34.060 like false teachers false doctrines denials of 00:07:34.060 --> 00:07:37.500 Christ And that's what John is addressing and 00:07:37.500 --> 00:07:40.560 it seems to me like in our 2026 here We like 00:07:40.560 --> 00:07:42.819 to throw those terms around the false prophet 00:07:42.819 --> 00:07:45.720 and false doctrine We throw those terms around 00:07:45.720 --> 00:07:48.639 a lot without I believe actually understanding 00:07:48.639 --> 00:07:52.279 What we're saying and I think we're gonna we 00:07:52.279 --> 00:07:55.259 need to pump the brakes sometimes Think about 00:07:55.259 --> 00:07:57.040 what we're actually saying and I could that could 00:07:57.040 --> 00:07:59.899 do a whole nother lesson on that I've kind of 00:07:59.899 --> 00:08:01.939 studied the whole false prophet thing and I could 00:08:01.939 --> 00:08:04.259 do a teaching on that later But I think it's 00:08:04.259 --> 00:08:06.699 really important that we don't just throw those 00:08:06.699 --> 00:08:10.680 titles around without quite frankly understanding 00:08:10.680 --> 00:08:17.300 What didn't what that means? so John is addressing 00:08:17.300 --> 00:08:19.699 all of this he's addressing the false doctrines 00:08:19.699 --> 00:08:23.319 the false teachers and the denials of Christ 00:08:23.449 --> 00:08:28.209 So, antichrist is not referring to a future threat. 00:08:28.310 --> 00:08:32.169 This was something already active in the early 00:08:32.169 --> 00:08:37.190 church. So let's look on, let's continue here. 00:08:39.659 --> 00:08:42.559 Let's look at second John 1 7 it says numerous 00:08:42.559 --> 00:08:45.220 deceivers have surfaced from surfaced from among 00:08:45.220 --> 00:08:48.779 us and Gone out into the world people who will 00:08:48.779 --> 00:08:51.559 not acknowledge Jesus Christ coming as a man 00:08:51.559 --> 00:08:55.700 these deceivers are Antichrist so again in the 00:08:55.700 --> 00:08:58.559 context of love here John now mentions false 00:08:58.559 --> 00:09:01.240 teachers. This shows us that love is the safeguard 00:09:01.240 --> 00:09:05.200 against error The more that love flows through 00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:08.200 us as we honor God's commands the more we are 00:09:08.200 --> 00:09:12.419 kept from deception Our unity produced by love 00:09:12.419 --> 00:09:15.840 enables us to recognize and resist false teachers 00:09:15.840 --> 00:09:18.240 Again, I like to think about this is kind of 00:09:18.240 --> 00:09:19.919 way I taught it when we did this in Bible study 00:09:19.919 --> 00:09:23.200 I like to think about what is the teaching producing 00:09:23.200 --> 00:09:26.759 inside of you? Is it producing you producing? 00:09:27.120 --> 00:09:30.019 Excuse me. Is it producing union? Is it producing 00:09:30.019 --> 00:09:33.600 love? Is it producing forgiveness? Is it producing 00:09:33.600 --> 00:09:36.539 what we would call repentance, which is metanoia 00:09:36.539 --> 00:09:39.340 coming back to your sense type thing? Is it producing 00:09:39.340 --> 00:09:42.580 that? Is it producing freedom? Or is it producing 00:09:42.580 --> 00:09:47.480 shame, guilt, condemnation, hatred? What is it 00:09:47.480 --> 00:09:50.139 producing in you when you're hearing it? Think 00:09:50.139 --> 00:09:54.139 about that. And that can help you determine what 00:09:54.139 --> 00:09:58.379 kind of teaching this actually is. So then we 00:09:58.379 --> 00:10:01.159 look into the man of lawlessness. This is found 00:10:01.159 --> 00:10:04.299 in 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2 That I'm going 00:10:04.299 --> 00:10:06.120 to get to here in just a moment because I want 00:10:06.120 --> 00:10:10.179 to think about What about the beast in Revelation? 00:10:12.240 --> 00:10:16.620 What about the beast in Revelation? And again, 00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:19.700 we discussed some of them we discussed some of 00:10:19.700 --> 00:10:23.080 this in a previous lesson, but I'll hit on it 00:10:23.080 --> 00:10:27.289 briefly remember That beast was an imagery for 00:10:27.289 --> 00:10:30.490 empire, for oppressive government, for political 00:10:30.490 --> 00:10:33.470 power. Many scholars connect this imagery to 00:10:33.470 --> 00:10:38.669 Rome, especially under emperors who demanded 00:10:38.669 --> 00:10:43.629 worship. But Antichrist and the beast are not 00:10:43.629 --> 00:10:46.169 identical terms, and that's important to remember. 00:10:46.690 --> 00:10:50.669 They are not the same thing. In fact, if you 00:10:50.669 --> 00:10:54.049 want to think about the beast represents power, 00:10:54.200 --> 00:10:58.340 that opposes God and his people the beast receives 00:10:58.340 --> 00:11:00.759 power authority and a throne the kingdom it rules 00:11:00.759 --> 00:11:04.940 over the earth and all of its inhabitants so 00:11:04.940 --> 00:11:08.120 again the beast and antichrist is not the same 00:11:08.120 --> 00:11:11.679 thing it's it's it's symbolism it's imagery and 00:11:11.679 --> 00:11:13.720 again we went over this before when we talked 00:11:13.720 --> 00:11:16.019 about all the different things like stars following 00:11:16.019 --> 00:11:19.110 suns setting moons right all this different kind 00:11:19.110 --> 00:11:22.169 of things So the beast is imagery for something 00:11:22.169 --> 00:11:26.129 and it's not the Antichrist typically It's typically 00:11:26.129 --> 00:11:28.730 imagery for an empire an impressive government 00:11:28.730 --> 00:11:31.610 or political power and again They would have 00:11:31.610 --> 00:11:34.950 understood this to be Rome in that moment in 00:11:34.950 --> 00:11:38.830 time That's just important for us to grab hold 00:11:38.830 --> 00:11:42.070 of and understand So let's look at this whole 00:11:42.350 --> 00:11:45.450 man of lawlessness idea, because this is often 00:11:45.450 --> 00:11:50.350 connected to the Antichrist. So 2 Thessalonians 00:11:50.350 --> 00:11:52.929 chapter 2, we're going to read verses 3 and 4. 00:11:53.129 --> 00:11:55.590 It says, Don't let anyone deceive you in any 00:11:55.590 --> 00:11:58.929 way. Before that day comes, the rebellion must 00:11:58.929 --> 00:12:02.490 occur, and the outlaw, the destructive son, will 00:12:02.490 --> 00:12:07.720 be revealed in his true light. He is the opposing 00:12:07.720 --> 00:12:10.720 counterpart who exalts himself over everything 00:12:10.720 --> 00:12:13.919 that is called God or is worshipped and who sits 00:12:13.919 --> 00:12:17.179 enthroned in God's temple and makes himself out 00:12:17.179 --> 00:12:20.899 to be a God. So God's temple, some see this prophecy 00:12:20.899 --> 00:12:25.519 fulfilled in AD 70. During the Roman War which 00:12:25.519 --> 00:12:27.480 again we've already talked about all this stuff 00:12:27.480 --> 00:12:30.100 ties in together if you pay attention listen 00:12:30.100 --> 00:12:32.679 to these podcasts Hope if you if this is your 00:12:32.679 --> 00:12:34.519 first one go back and listen to the other ones 00:12:34.519 --> 00:12:38.299 we talked about some of this stuff But again 00:12:38.299 --> 00:12:40.639 some see this prophecy fulfilled in 8070 during 00:12:40.639 --> 00:12:43.240 the Roman War when foreigners came into the temple 00:12:43.240 --> 00:12:46.259 and desecrated it and declared themselves to 00:12:46.259 --> 00:12:50.259 the the true rulers the true rulers of the Jewish 00:12:50.259 --> 00:12:54.679 people Roman emperors were considered to be gods. 00:12:55.379 --> 00:12:57.799 But the one who sits in God's temple, which was 00:12:57.799 --> 00:13:01.840 not made with hands, is the sin of man, a sinful 00:13:01.840 --> 00:13:06.720 nature that is traced back to Adam. So I want 00:13:06.720 --> 00:13:10.100 you to think about that. The one who sits in 00:13:10.100 --> 00:13:13.220 God's temple, which was not made with hands, 00:13:13.419 --> 00:13:17.960 is the sin of man, that sinful nature, which... 00:13:19.260 --> 00:13:21.860 Let me let me try to think how to best put this 00:13:21.860 --> 00:13:25.100 because you and I don't have a sin nature This 00:13:25.100 --> 00:13:29.080 would be more classified as original sin but 00:13:29.080 --> 00:13:34.100 it would be the mindset of Adam it would be the 00:13:34.100 --> 00:13:38.639 lineage that's traced back to Adam the fall the 00:13:38.639 --> 00:13:42.980 fallen mindset if you will this is what Would 00:13:42.980 --> 00:13:45.860 be the one who's sitting in God's temple. So 00:13:45.860 --> 00:13:48.269 just And again, that's just my viewpoint. You 00:13:48.269 --> 00:13:50.389 can believe whatever you want to believe. This 00:13:50.389 --> 00:13:53.669 is not about you agreeing with me. This is about 00:13:53.669 --> 00:13:57.389 giving you a different perspective, a different 00:13:57.389 --> 00:14:00.490 point of view for you just to think and not check 00:14:00.490 --> 00:14:04.490 your brain at the door. So Paul is describing 00:14:04.490 --> 00:14:08.110 a lawless figure opposing God and exalting himself. 00:14:08.950 --> 00:14:12.129 And again, to me, the mindset of the fallen nature 00:14:12.409 --> 00:14:17.110 the mindset of the first Adam that chose to believe 00:14:17.110 --> 00:14:20.629 that God is distant from him. That is what I 00:14:20.629 --> 00:14:22.789 believe that this is referring to. The lawless 00:14:22.789 --> 00:14:27.269 figure, it's opposing God. And then you have 00:14:27.269 --> 00:14:29.970 Christ coming on the scene later to correct all 00:14:29.970 --> 00:14:35.750 this. So. Again, many scholars suggest connections 00:14:35.750 --> 00:14:38.450 to corrupt leadership, temple opposition, and 00:14:38.450 --> 00:14:42.570 first century conflicts, not a distant future 00:14:42.570 --> 00:14:47.370 figure. Now, scripture gives warnings about opposition, 00:14:47.629 --> 00:14:53.809 but not always in the modern culture that we've 00:14:53.809 --> 00:15:01.539 created, the modern culture imagines. And that's 00:15:01.539 --> 00:15:06.600 just helpful to remember. So, Antichrist imagery, 00:15:07.299 --> 00:15:10.360 I want you to think about this, especially, I'm 00:15:10.360 --> 00:15:13.860 36, in the western part of the world, Antichrist 00:15:13.860 --> 00:15:16.799 imagery became sensationalized. It has become 00:15:16.799 --> 00:15:20.700 fear -based, politically weaponized. People have 00:15:20.700 --> 00:15:23.679 identified kings, popes, presidents, political 00:15:23.679 --> 00:15:27.220 leaders as the Antichrist over and over, and 00:15:27.220 --> 00:15:29.820 pretty much most of those have been absolutely 00:15:29.820 --> 00:15:33.679 wrong. just to throw some stuff out there. Who 00:15:33.679 --> 00:15:36.559 has been compared to Antichrist? You've had various 00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:39.919 popes who have been compared to Antichrist. Martin 00:15:39.919 --> 00:15:44.929 Luther, Adolf Hitler. Ronald Reagan wasn't interested 00:15:44.929 --> 00:15:48.570 because his full name had six letters in each 00:15:48.570 --> 00:15:52.029 part. So you have the number 666 I'm not sure 00:15:52.029 --> 00:15:54.570 what his middle name is, but apparently his middle 00:15:54.570 --> 00:15:56.850 name is six letters Ronald and Reagan both have 00:15:56.850 --> 00:15:59.909 six letters So he had to be the Antichrist because 00:15:59.909 --> 00:16:05.950 his name was compressed His name had 666 in it 00:16:05.950 --> 00:16:09.590 You have Barack Obama. You have Donald Trump. 00:16:09.649 --> 00:16:13.779 You have Hillary Clinton Joe Biden, Emmanuel 00:16:13.779 --> 00:16:17.340 Macron, Vladimir Putin, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, 00:16:17.500 --> 00:16:20.720 all these different people have been compared 00:16:20.720 --> 00:16:25.960 to being the Antichrist. And again, pretty much 00:16:25.960 --> 00:16:30.059 all these would be incorrect. So what should 00:16:30.059 --> 00:16:32.639 we watch for today and how do we bring this into 00:16:32.639 --> 00:16:36.639 a practical life? So instead of watching for 00:16:36.639 --> 00:16:39.899 one villain, watch instead for false teaching. 00:16:40.879 --> 00:16:45.279 distorted truth and Christ replacing systems. 00:16:45.740 --> 00:16:48.399 And think about what can replace Christ today 00:16:48.399 --> 00:16:53.440 in our society, in our world. Power, politics, 00:16:54.720 --> 00:16:57.279 religion without love, systems without mercy, 00:16:57.559 --> 00:17:00.379 all these different things can replace Christ 00:17:00.379 --> 00:17:04.619 in our society and in our world today if we're 00:17:04.619 --> 00:17:08.609 not careful. So again, Ask yourself, what does 00:17:08.609 --> 00:17:12.190 it produce within you? The teaching that you're 00:17:12.190 --> 00:17:14.910 hearing, the favorite preacher that you have 00:17:14.910 --> 00:17:17.410 that you're listening to, what is it producing 00:17:17.410 --> 00:17:20.769 inside of you? Freedom or fear? Love or hatred? 00:17:21.230 --> 00:17:25.250 What is it producing inside of you? Freedom or 00:17:25.250 --> 00:17:27.849 shame and guilt? Is it producing condemnation? 00:17:27.950 --> 00:17:31.869 Is it producing hope? I mean, what's it producing 00:17:31.869 --> 00:17:35.950 inside of you?
