And Jacob had 12 sons and one of them 00:00:59.090 --> 00:01:03.929 was Joseph. He was the youngest and his mother 00:01:03.929 --> 00:01:07.870 was Rachel. He was the first son from Rachel, 00:01:08.469 --> 00:01:11.750 Jacob's wife. And although he was the youngest, 00:01:11.750 --> 00:01:14.670 he was the first one of that wife. He actually 00:01:14.670 --> 00:01:17.129 had another wife named Leah and we won't get 00:01:17.129 --> 00:01:20.489 into all that. And he had others. But Joseph 00:01:20.489 --> 00:01:23.569 is the one we're going to focus on. And Jacob 00:01:23.569 --> 00:01:27.819 loved Joseph. He loved him above all his other 00:01:27.819 --> 00:01:32.400 children. And he because he was the son that 00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:38.760 he had during his old age. And so Joseph. Was 00:01:38.760 --> 00:01:41.379 growing up and he was about 17 at the time and 00:01:41.379 --> 00:01:44.359 he dreamed a dream and he told it to his brothers 00:01:44.359 --> 00:01:47.340 and they hated him even more. Now they're selling him into slavery. 00:05:52.389 --> 00:05:55.189 You know, Joseph being of that young mind, he 00:05:55.189 --> 00:05:59.269 had to just be broken and crying and pleading 00:05:59.269 --> 00:06:03.550 and And so let's see what happens. So the Midianites 00:06:03.550 --> 00:06:06.290 merchants, they came close to Joseph in the pit. 00:06:06.990 --> 00:06:10.129 And guess what? They sold him for 20 pieces of 00:06:10.129 --> 00:06:13.610 silver. And then the Ishmaelites took Joseph 00:06:13.610 --> 00:06:16.850 into Egypt. So now the brothers have to go back 00:06:16.850 --> 00:06:19.610 and tell their dad something. So Reuben returned 00:06:19.610 --> 00:06:22.810 to the pit. Where Joseph was not and he rent 00:06:22.810 --> 00:06:26.350 his clothes. He was in sorrow and he returned 00:06:26.350 --> 00:06:28.850 to his brothers and said the child is not there. 00:06:29.410 --> 00:06:31.430 Where should I go? And they took Joseph's coat 00:06:31.430 --> 00:06:35.410 killed a goat put blood in it on it. And he was mourning for his son 00:06:56.259 --> 00:07:01.259 so much for many, many days that all of his sons 00:07:01.259 --> 00:07:04.120 and all of his daughters rose up, tried to comfort 00:07:04.120 --> 00:07:07.199 him, but he refused to be comforted. The median 00:07:14.459 --> 00:07:17.779 night sold him in Egypt to Potiphar. Potiphar 00:07:17.779 --> 00:07:20.240 was an officer in Pharaoh's house. He was a captain 00:07:20.240 --> 00:07:24.639 of the guard. But guess what? God was still with 00:07:24.639 --> 00:07:28.160 him. God was with Joseph. You may feel like you've 00:07:28.160 --> 00:07:30.720 been thrown in a pit. Maybe someone's abandoned 00:07:30.720 --> 00:07:34.300 you. Maybe you're someone walked out on you. 00:07:34.300 --> 00:07:37.939 Maybe your parents, maybe your your spouse, maybe 00:07:37.939 --> 00:07:41.339 your siblings. Maybe you're a parent and your 00:07:41.339 --> 00:07:45.079 kids walked out on you. whatever the case may 00:07:45.079 --> 00:07:47.600 be, God has not left you. He's always there. 00:07:47.639 --> 00:07:50.600 Reach out to him. Call out to him. He's always 00:07:50.600 --> 00:07:54.740 available. And what happens, we're moving on 00:07:54.740 --> 00:08:02.420 into chapter 38 now. He gets taken to Egypt and 00:08:02.420 --> 00:08:08.610 there, He's in Egypt and he's working for Potiphar 00:08:08.610 --> 00:08:12.350 and he finds favor and he becomes very prosperous 00:08:12.350 --> 00:08:17.189 and he finds grace and favor. And so it's amazing 00:08:17.189 --> 00:08:21.790 that he's working in Egypt now for Potiphar and 00:08:21.790 --> 00:08:26.170 Potiphar Just really likes him and starts to 00:08:26.170 --> 00:08:28.769 trust him and begins to trust him with everything. 00:08:28.769 --> 00:08:31.990 He's over in Egypt, which Pharaoh had put him 00:08:31.990 --> 00:08:36.429 in charge. And so he's trusting him with everything 00:08:36.429 --> 00:08:42.470 and what happens is Potiphar's wife becomes a 00:08:42.470 --> 00:08:46.149 problem, right? She starts to have eyes for Joseph 00:08:46.149 --> 00:08:54.100 and it gets a little crazy. And so the wife begins 00:08:54.100 --> 00:08:58.759 to try and seduce Joseph. Let's read chapter 00:08:58.759 --> 00:09:01.639 39 verse 6 and he left all that he had in Joseph's 00:09:01.639 --> 00:09:05.039 hand and this is talking about Potiphar and he 00:09:05.039 --> 00:09:07.460 did not have odd except bread which he did eat 00:09:07.460 --> 00:09:10.639 and Joseph was a good person and he was well 00:09:10.639 --> 00:09:14.360 favored and it came to pass that his master's 00:09:14.360 --> 00:09:18.399 wife came for eyes for Joseph and she said come 00:09:18.399 --> 00:09:22.240 sleep with me, but he refused. and said to her 00:09:22.240 --> 00:09:26.480 behold my master wants wants me nothing in this 00:09:26.480 --> 00:09:29.039 house and he has committed all this into my hand 00:09:29.039 --> 00:09:32.620 there is no greater house than this neither has 00:09:32.620 --> 00:09:34.740 he kept anything from me and because you are 00:09:34.740 --> 00:09:37.639 his wife how can i do such a wickedness and sin 00:09:37.639 --> 00:09:42.720 against god he was so he loved god he wanted 00:09:42.720 --> 00:09:45.059 his relationship right and he's saying to her 00:09:45.059 --> 00:09:47.899 how can i sin against god you know that should 00:09:47.899 --> 00:09:52.200 be our heart every time temptation comes, we 00:09:52.200 --> 00:09:54.559 should think like Joseph did about the goodness 00:09:54.559 --> 00:09:58.440 of God. He went ahead and made 00:10:19.179 --> 00:10:22.399 the best of the situation. When you get dealt 00:10:22.399 --> 00:10:25.159 lemons, make some lemonade and pass it out. That's 00:10:25.159 --> 00:10:28.620 what he did. He even stood his ground with the 00:10:28.620 --> 00:10:31.379 with Potiphar's wife, the captain of the guards 00:10:31.379 --> 00:10:33.980 wife and said, no, I'm not sleeping with you. 00:10:34.539 --> 00:10:37.259 I know the blessings I have and I how can I sin 00:10:37.259 --> 00:10:40.200 against God? So she's lying because he refused 00:11:58.000 --> 00:12:01.720 to sleep with her. And she spoke to them about 00:12:01.720 --> 00:12:05.399 it and guess what happened. He gets thrown into 00:12:05.399 --> 00:12:08.500 prison verse 20 Joseph's Master Potiphar took 00:12:08.500 --> 00:12:11.399 him put him into prison a place where the Kings 00:12:11.399 --> 00:12:15.179 prisoners were bound and he was there and he's 00:12:15.179 --> 00:12:18.399 in this jail. I'm telling you the Bible is so 00:12:18.399 --> 00:12:20.779 good. I mean people like soap operas. They like 00:12:20.779 --> 00:12:22.419 other books, but let me tell you there's some 00:12:22.419 --> 00:12:25.759 real stories in here and Joseph life is such 00:12:25.759 --> 00:12:29.620 a tremendous story because You know, he still 00:12:29.620 --> 00:12:32.539 is distant from his family. He still does not 00:12:32.539 --> 00:12:36.440 have favor with his family. And now because of 00:12:36.440 --> 00:12:40.039 being framed by Potiphar's wife, he now has lost 00:12:40.039 --> 00:12:43.480 favor and pop with Potiphar. But guess what? 00:12:43.820 --> 00:12:45.940 The Lord is still with them. And I want to tell 00:12:45.940 --> 00:12:49.960 you that today. The Lord is still with you. He 00:12:49.960 --> 00:12:53.279 sees you. He is with you. He has chosen you. 00:12:53.690 --> 00:12:57.009 You do not have to worry. He has chosen you. 00:12:57.049 --> 00:13:00.570 So if he's chosen you, he's with you. He will 00:13:00.570 --> 00:13:03.590 never leave you or forsake you. He's right there with you. 00:13:09.809 --> 00:13:12.090 And let's see what Joseph does. So Joseph is 00:13:12.090 --> 00:13:16.090 in this prison. The keeper of the prison begins 00:13:16.090 --> 00:13:20.049 to have favor on Joseph shows favor towards Joseph. 00:13:20.429 --> 00:13:24.750 And so the prison keeper commits Joseph to all 00:13:24.750 --> 00:13:27.549 the prisoners in the prison and whatever they 00:13:27.549 --> 00:13:30.710 did. He was the doer of so he was helping the 00:13:30.710 --> 00:13:33.629 keeper of the prison the favor just doesn't stop 00:13:33.629 --> 00:13:36.370 the Bible says we have favor round about us like 00:13:36.370 --> 00:13:38.649 a shield and as long as we stay with the Word 00:13:38.649 --> 00:13:40.649 of God and keep doing what's right in the eyes 00:13:40.649 --> 00:13:43.990 of God. He's got that favor is not going to leave 00:13:43.990 --> 00:13:47.149 you. So no matter where you are he went from 00:13:47.149 --> 00:13:50.970 a pit and he and he gets sold into Egypt has 00:13:50.970 --> 00:13:54.590 favor then he gets thrown in prison which wasn't 00:13:54.590 --> 00:13:57.840 his fault and he has favor. And so he's just 00:13:57.840 --> 00:14:00.539 in prison, you know, trusting God. I'm sure he's 00:14:00.539 --> 00:14:04.019 praying and talking to the Lord. The big thing, 00:14:04.139 --> 00:14:07.659 too, you notice he's not holding unforgiveness. 00:14:08.279 --> 00:14:11.259 Unforgiveness and bitterness will destroy you 00:14:11.259 --> 00:14:14.200 from the inside out. It's not worth it. It doesn't 00:14:14.200 --> 00:14:16.960 hurt the person that you have it towards. It 00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:19.759 hurts you. So just let it go. Joseph let it go 00:14:19.759 --> 00:14:22.340 and he kept going with his life. And so let's 00:14:22.340 --> 00:14:27.399 see what happens. So while he was in there, The 00:14:27.399 --> 00:14:31.940 king had sent his baker, his chief baker and 00:14:31.940 --> 00:14:35.759 his chief butler to prison also because they 00:14:35.759 --> 00:14:41.460 offended him. And when they offended him, they 00:14:41.460 --> 00:14:45.039 went in and they met Joseph. And Joseph was in 00:14:45.039 --> 00:14:47.580 jail and the captain of the guard charged him 00:14:47.580 --> 00:14:51.629 with them and they continued. in a season in 00:14:51.629 --> 00:14:54.450 prison together and while they were in there 00:14:54.450 --> 00:14:58.009 both the butler and the baker they both dreamed 00:14:58.009 --> 00:15:01.169 a dream but they didn't have the interpretation 00:15:01.169 --> 00:15:05.370 and verse 6 of chapter 40 Joseph came in one 00:15:05.370 --> 00:15:07.830 morning and looked upon them and and they were 00:15:07.830 --> 00:15:11.000 sad and he said you know what's going on? Why 00:15:11.000 --> 00:15:14.100 do you look so sad in verse 8? He says they said 00:15:14.100 --> 00:15:16.460 we have dreamed a dream and there's no interpreter 00:15:16.460 --> 00:15:19.820 and Joseph said to them do not interpretations 00:15:19.820 --> 00:15:22.940 belong to God. Tell me and I will pray for you 00:15:22.940 --> 00:15:26.580 and they told him the dream and then he begins 00:15:26.580 --> 00:15:30.000 to tell him the dream each one of them the butler 00:15:30.000 --> 00:15:33.740 and the Baker and Joseph goes to God and says 00:15:33.740 --> 00:15:36.220 God and praise to God to get the interpretation 00:15:36.220 --> 00:15:39.049 gets the interpretation. and begins to share 00:15:39.049 --> 00:15:44.149 with them the interpretation and so as he shares 00:15:44.149 --> 00:15:49.309 the interpretations he tells them because one 00:15:49.309 --> 00:15:53.710 of them their dream ends up the baker ends up 00:15:53.710 --> 00:16:00.879 dying he ends up being being murdered by by Pharaoh's 00:16:00.879 --> 00:16:04.299 at Potiphar's and Pharaoh's. I'm sorry, not Potiphar 00:16:04.299 --> 00:16:07.100 at Pharaoh's command. The other one gets let 00:16:07.100 --> 00:16:09.700 go and restored to his place. And so he gives 00:16:09.700 --> 00:16:13.799 those interpretations. But when the butler was 00:16:13.799 --> 00:16:16.679 restored to his place, Joseph said, remember 00:16:16.679 --> 00:16:19.789 me. Well, the butler didn't he forgot about him. 00:16:20.230 --> 00:16:22.970 So again, here Joseph in the goodness of his 00:16:22.970 --> 00:16:26.309 heart, praise gets their answers for them. One 00:16:26.309 --> 00:16:29.210 of them gets restored and forgets all about Joseph. 00:16:29.870 --> 00:16:32.730 But you know, there's a there's a scripture in 00:16:32.730 --> 00:16:36.649 Psalms 105 19. It says until that time, the word 00:16:36.649 --> 00:16:40.029 of the Lord tried him talking about Joseph.
