So 00:01:23.170 --> 00:01:25.049 we're going to talk about one of those times 00:01:25.049 --> 00:01:30.049 that God tested him and it's in Genesis, in Genesis 00:01:30.049 --> 00:01:34.709 22 and we're going to start in verse 5, excuse 00:01:34.709 --> 00:01:37.810 me, and it says, and Abraham said unto the young 00:01:37.810 --> 00:01:41.129 man, abide here with the donkey and I and the 00:01:41.129 --> 00:01:43.549 lad will go up yonder and worship and come again 00:01:43.549 --> 00:01:47.510 unto you and Abraham took the wood of the burnt 00:01:47.510 --> 00:01:50.689 offering and laid it upon Isaac and took the 00:01:50.689 --> 00:01:52.549 fire in his hand and the knife and they both 00:01:52.549 --> 00:01:56.150 went of them together and Isaac spoke to Abraham. 00:01:56.170 --> 00:02:01.689 Isaac was Abraham's promised child that God had 00:02:01.689 --> 00:02:05.469 promised him 25 years before he gave him to him 00:02:05.469 --> 00:02:08.389 and he had him when he was well past age, him 00:02:08.389 --> 00:02:11.990 and his wife were both past age of reproduction. 00:02:12.729 --> 00:02:16.849 So God caused their reproductive organs to live 00:02:16.849 --> 00:02:20.599 again. and he planted the seed and thus through 00:02:20.599 --> 00:02:25.180 Sarah, Isaac was born. And it was 25 years after 00:02:25.180 --> 00:02:27.740 he received the promise for God. So sometimes 00:02:27.740 --> 00:02:31.539 when we hear a promise from heaven, sometimes 00:02:31.539 --> 00:02:33.759 it's years before that promise is fulfilled, 00:02:33.819 --> 00:02:36.620 sometimes it's fulfilled rather quickly. But 00:02:36.620 --> 00:02:42.159 in this case, it caused Abraham and Sarah to 00:02:42.159 --> 00:02:45.710 have to believe and trust God and they did. We 00:02:45.710 --> 00:02:47.930 won't go into that story today, but this is how 00:02:47.930 --> 00:02:53.030 Isaac and Isaac became. So Abraham knew God, 00:02:53.189 --> 00:02:56.270 he knew his ways, he knew that God was faithful 00:02:56.270 --> 00:02:58.870 to what he said. Whatever God says he'll do, 00:02:59.229 --> 00:03:03.289 he will do. And so God, in the beginning of this 00:03:03.289 --> 00:03:07.379 chapter, God had tested Abraham and he wanted 00:03:07.379 --> 00:03:09.939 him. He said, I want you to take your son, your 00:03:09.939 --> 00:03:13.080 only son that you love and I want you to take 00:03:13.080 --> 00:03:15.580 him to the land of Moriah. This is in verse two 00:03:15.580 --> 00:03:19.560 and offer him there as a burnt offering upon 00:03:19.560 --> 00:03:22.860 one of the mountains which I'll tell you. And 00:03:22.860 --> 00:03:26.439 so Abraham took his son and here they go. They're 00:03:26.439 --> 00:03:29.520 starting to walk up that mountain with the things 00:03:29.520 --> 00:03:33.379 they need for the sacrifice. And Isaac, said 00:03:33.379 --> 00:03:36.979 unto Abraham his father my father here am I said 00:03:36.979 --> 00:03:40.300 he said my son and he said behold the fire in 00:03:40.300 --> 00:03:42.819 the wood but where is the lamb for the burnt 00:03:42.819 --> 00:03:45.259 offering he was familiar with burnt offerings 00:03:45.259 --> 00:03:47.979 because back in the day you had to do offerings 00:03:47.979 --> 00:03:52.159 sacrificial offerings of animals for for all 00:03:52.159 --> 00:03:56.120 kinds of things especially son And so Abraham 00:03:56.120 --> 00:03:59.000 said, my son, God will provide himself a lamb 00:03:59.000 --> 00:04:02.580 for that burnt offering. So they went both of 00:04:02.580 --> 00:04:05.319 them together. So Abraham didn't tell Isaac, 00:04:05.680 --> 00:04:08.020 well, guess what? You're the offering. God's 00:04:08.020 --> 00:04:10.860 asked me to sacrifice you. That would have totally 00:04:10.860 --> 00:04:13.800 flipped him out. Abraham knew that even if he had 00:09:07.539 --> 00:09:11.779 to slay Isaac, even if God would not have said, 00:09:12.100 --> 00:09:15.159 stop Abraham, don't put the knife to Isaac. He 00:09:15.159 --> 00:09:16.799 knew he would have raised him from the dead, 00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:21.500 why? Why did he know that in his heart? Because 00:09:21.500 --> 00:09:25.809 he knew that God was faithful. He knew God would 00:09:25.809 --> 00:09:29.309 not go back on his word. You know, the Bible 00:09:29.309 --> 00:09:32.269 says that God will not alter his word, nor will 00:09:32.269 --> 00:09:35.029 he break the covenant in which he has with us. 00:09:35.269 --> 00:09:38.610 Hallelujah. That's an outstanding scripture that 00:09:38.610 --> 00:09:42.370 we can stand on and we can trust in, right? There's 00:09:42.370 --> 00:09:45.289 a scripture in 1 Samuel, it says obedience is 00:09:45.289 --> 00:09:48.009 better than sacrifice. Why does it say that? 00:09:48.409 --> 00:09:51.649 because it's better to obey God and receive a 00:09:51.649 --> 00:09:56.190 promise than not to obey and have to repent and 00:09:56.190 --> 00:09:59.830 go through that and not receive the reward, right? 00:10:00.129 --> 00:10:04.070 So we get a reward every time we obey. So okay, so this is a situation 00:13:55.279 --> 00:13:57.659 where this is a prophet of God and the Lord has 00:13:57.659 --> 00:14:01.059 spoken him to go speak against this altar and 00:14:01.059 --> 00:14:05.850 he goes and does it. The king gets upset. and 00:14:05.850 --> 00:14:08.929 he tries to tell them, reach out, and he reaches 00:14:08.929 --> 00:14:11.389 out his hand, his hand dries up because this 00:14:11.389 --> 00:14:14.090 is a sign and a wonder that the Lord's word is 00:14:14.090 --> 00:14:16.389 coming to pass. And then he asks the man of God 00:14:16.389 --> 00:14:20.090 to pray, God restores the man's hand, but the 00:14:20.090 --> 00:14:23.250 king wants to bless him. But he had already been 00:14:23.250 --> 00:14:26.789 instructed by the Lord, the man of God had, to 00:14:26.789 --> 00:14:30.769 not eat and to not drink, and to not go back 00:14:30.769 --> 00:14:34.559 the same way he came. So he went another way, 00:14:34.559 --> 00:14:37.679 it says, and he didn't return by the way he came 00:14:37.679 --> 00:14:40.480 to Bethel. So at this point he's still obeying 00:14:40.480 --> 00:14:43.799 God, right? He did not go back, he did not eat, 00:14:43.860 --> 00:14:46.159 did not drink, did not take what the king had 00:14:46.159 --> 00:14:48.919 offered. But let's continue. Now there dwelt 00:14:48.919 --> 00:14:51.659 an old prophet in Bethel, and his sons came and 00:14:51.659 --> 00:14:53.879 told him all the works that the man of God had 00:14:53.879 --> 00:14:56.559 done that day in Bethel, the words which he had 00:14:56.559 --> 00:15:00.659 spoken unto the king. And they told it all to 00:15:00.659 --> 00:15:03.860 their father. And their father said, which way 00:15:03.860 --> 00:15:06.500 did he go? For his sons have seen the way the 00:15:06.500 --> 00:15:10.809 man of God went when he came from Judah. This is the older man speaking and an angel 00:15:59.950 --> 00:16:02.570 spoken to me by the word of the Lord saying bring 00:16:02.570 --> 00:16:04.830 him back with you into your house that he may 00:16:04.830 --> 00:16:08.169 eat bread and drink water but he lied to him. 00:16:08.330 --> 00:16:11.929 So this was an old prophet who obviously was 00:16:11.929 --> 00:16:15.649 not right with God and he lied to this young 00:16:15.649 --> 00:16:18.730 prophet and was telling him oh but an angel came 00:16:18.730 --> 00:16:22.960 and told me So he went back and did eat bread 00:16:22.960 --> 00:16:25.879 in his house and drink water. So this young prophet 00:16:25.879 --> 00:16:29.379 went or younger prophet went ahead and went back 00:16:29.379 --> 00:16:32.120 with this old prophet. He believed what he said 00:16:32.120 --> 00:16:35.340 and he followed it. You know we are never to 00:16:35.340 --> 00:16:37.919 follow man's instruction. We're to follow God. 00:16:37.960 --> 00:16:42.159 So if even if a prophet of God like this one 00:16:42.159 --> 00:16:46.240 spoke to this man and said oh but I an angel 00:16:46.240 --> 00:16:49.620 told me and he lied. You know if it doesn't bear 00:16:49.620 --> 00:16:52.370 witness with you your spirit, the Holy Spirit 00:16:52.370 --> 00:16:55.230 in you when you are born again, the Holy Spirit 00:16:55.230 --> 00:16:58.769 is your guide. That peace in your heart is your 00:16:58.769 --> 00:17:01.929 guide. And whatever someone says, thus sayeth 00:17:01.929 --> 00:17:04.450 the Lord to you. And there are prophets today, 00:17:04.609 --> 00:17:07.190 apostles, there... pastors or people who can 00:17:07.190 --> 00:17:10.890 prophesy, that is true.
