I've seen A Goofy Movie more times than I can count first as a kid in the nineties and now as a mom watching it with my own kiddos every single time it still makes me laugh, gets the kids dancing to the music and reminds me why Disney used to make movies like this, the good old days. It's Goofy (literally), it's sweet, and it's completely safe for family movie night. Perfect for all ages. Whether you're watching with little ones, teens, or just reliving your own childhood. So, what's this movie about anyway? In case you don't know, A Goofy Movie is a father-son road trip comedy with big heart. Max is a teenager in that awkward stage, you know, hitting puberty, getting in trouble at school, trying to carve out his own life and Goofy in classic, Goofy fashion, thinks his son is headed for a life of trouble and decides the best fix is a bonding road trip. After Max gets in trouble at school, Goofy decides they need some quality time together, which Max isn't thrilled about, since he won't be able to attend a party to watch their rockstar idol Powerline with his crush, Roxanne. So he lies to her and later to his dad. Telling her that his dad is taking him to L.A. to the Powerline concert. What follows is a road trip full of comedy, conflict and touching moments.

And speaking of comedy, Jason Marsden, who voices Max so perfectly here, did some fantastic work on The Torkelsons. He plays Gregory Morgan in that show's second season reboot called Almost Home. Go check out episode two for more laughs. It's another uplifting, clean, TV series your family will love. So let's talk about why this movie has such staying power and we have to start with the music. Oh my gosh! The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic! These songs are so catchy. My family loves to play them on our cleaning days. You know how it is, sometimes you just have those, "Ugh, I have to get my cleaning done, I don't wanna do my cleaning." And you have those kinds of days, you know? Well, I 2 I, the signature finale song is iconic.

It gets you moving and keeps you motivated because it instantly puts you in a good mood. Oh, and I have to tell you, the behind-the-scenes process is so cool. There's an amazing behind-the-scenes video on YouTube showing how the animators created the final dance sequence for I 2 I using real dancers on a grid, and then with one animator per dancer, they filmed it from every angle in order for the animators to be able to hand draw every single frame, it's just absolutely mind blowing craftsmanship. And if you love and appreciate that kind of artistry, you'll probably love Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron too back in episode eight. Another phenomenal hand animated, clean, movie recommendation for the whole family. Now, beneath the comedy is a heartfelt story about family connection. One Reddit user summed it up perfectly. "As a kid, you relate to Max, as an adult, you feel for Goofy." And in fact, Bill Farmer actually says the same thing in another video I'll talk about later. Themes include: embarrassment over your parents, guilt from lying, fear your child is going down the wrong path, drifting apart as kids grow up, and the painful chaos of family road trips. How many of you have been on road trips that don't go quite well as planned. I've been there. One line in the movie captures it all. Max says, "I have my own life now." Goofy. I know that. I just wanted to be part of it.

It's an honest honest statement. It just resonates with you as a parent about wanting to share in your kids' lives, but not control them. You know if this episode is resonating with you, maybe bringing back memories of your own family movie nights, or making you think about your relationship with your parents or kids, I'd love for you to share it with someone who would appreciate it or might need to hear it right now. Of course not everyone sees the movie the same way, and that's okay. Now, let me quickly address those parents who think this movie is inappropriate. In my opinion, this movie is truly for all ages. Any kid that likes cartoons really. But you know, some parents may disagree.

A few on Common Sense Media say it's not for little kids because of the opening dream sequence, high school themes, and cartoon cleavage, which have they seen The Little Mermaid or Aladdin? You know, the Seashell bra and the little bra like top that Jasmine wears all the time. And yes, I could do without the tiny outfits on the dancers at the end in the I 2 I finale dance sequence. But personally, it doesn't bother me here in this movie, but that's just me. I completely respect that every parent has their own comfort levels and ideas of what's appropriate and inappropriate for their own child. Those stories have been guiding family values for generations. Now, did you know this year marked the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie? Disney did something really cool. They did a re-release at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood and they also happened to release a YouTube video featuring Jason Marsden and Bill Farmer riding in a replica of Goofy's car and reminiscing about the film. Farmers shared that fans often tell him the movie helped them reconnect with their dads sometimes for the first time. Bill also shares this beautiful insight: "Goofy is genuine and he's a good father. Everyone thinks their dad is goofy at once."

He also notes that most people identify with Max when they're young, but identify with Goofy once they have kids of their own. Isn't that the truth? Just like that Reddit user review that I read earlier. Finally, he goes on to say, "I am so proud that people come up to me all the time and say A Goofy Movie changed my life. I couldn't talk to my dad until that movie came out. It became our movie. Even more so today than when it came out in 1995. It's one of those rare films that has caught on and continually grows." Jason Marsden didn't adds at the end, "It's special to have worked on something like this that has meant so much to people, and I'm very proud to be a goof." Next up the lost art of hand animation. This film is also a favorite of mine because it was hand animated, but every single frame was created by talented artists putting their heart into each frame.

One IMDB reviewer called it: A Style Disney Has Lost and I agree. It proves you don't need flashy effects. Just a good story. Memorable characters and heart. Another reviewer wrote, "I'm a grownup man and I love this movie. This is actually just a good movie that adults and kids alike can enjoy." Finally, my kids wanted to share their favorite things about A Goofy Movie too, so here they are. I think our Goofy Movie is a perfect family friendly movie for every family, and I highly recommend to watch it. Especially like my favorite part called Lester's Possum Park. I don't want to story tell because then it won't be as funny when you see it for the first time.

This movie is perfect for families because it has strong family themes and values. It's one of my all time favorite Disney movies to watch, and I've been watching it since I was around six years old. I still love watching this movie to this day, and I especially love the soundtrack. I 2 I is such a powerful, upbeat song that is very catchy and fun. I love the scene of Lesters Possum Park. I don't wanna story tell, almost everybody is gonna laugh when they see that part. This is definitely one of my favorite Disney movies. It's just something that I think most kids these days would like compared to the stuff that they see nowadays. Now after hearing their excitement, you can probably tell why this one's a hit for all ages.
