I don't say 00:05:57.399 --> 00:06:00.240 this to mock anyone. I say it to wake us up. 00:06:00.540 --> 00:06:02.959 Because if you're more shaped by church culture 00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:06.670 than by Christ himself, You might just be a churchgoer, 00:06:06.829 --> 00:06:09.589 not a disciple. Let's break down the profiles. 00:06:10.069 --> 00:06:12.649 Number one, we have the language pro. This is 00:06:12.649 --> 00:06:14.990 the believer who speaks fluent Christianese, 00:06:15.329 --> 00:06:18.230 can drop a hedge of protection in a group prayer 00:06:18.230 --> 00:06:21.189 with flawless timing. They'll say, Lord willing, 00:06:21.430 --> 00:06:23.689 before every plan, but haven't actually asked 00:06:23.689 --> 00:06:26.750 the Lord in weeks. Phrases like, God's got this, 00:06:26.889 --> 00:06:29.149 I'm blessed and highly favored, and it's the 00:06:29.149 --> 00:06:31.990 season, roll off their tongue. But they haven't 00:06:31.990 --> 00:06:35.439 surrendered anything since 2008. What is the 00:06:35.439 --> 00:06:37.620 risk of this person? They know the language, 00:06:37.839 --> 00:06:41.319 but do they know the lamb? Jesus warns us in 00:06:41.319 --> 00:06:44.040 Matthew 15 8, these people honor me with their 00:06:44.040 --> 00:06:46.860 lives, but their hearts are far from me. Let's 00:06:46.860 --> 00:06:49.819 be real, talk is cheap. Heaven isn't impressed 00:06:49.819 --> 00:06:53.120 by vocabulary. Heaven responds to obedience. 00:06:53.980 --> 00:06:56.639 Number two, the sermon collector. This person 00:06:56.639 --> 00:07:00.139 has 17 podcasts queued up and listens to sermons 00:07:00.139 --> 00:07:03.259 on two times speed while doing laundry. They 00:07:03.259 --> 00:07:06.399 can quote John Mark Homer and Tim Keller like 00:07:06.399 --> 00:07:09.420 a seminary student. They consume content about 00:07:09.420 --> 00:07:12.360 Jesus all day long. But here's the problem. They're 00:07:12.360 --> 00:07:15.579 fed, but not formed. Informed, but not transformed. 00:07:16.379 --> 00:07:19.480 James 1 .22 hits them square in the heart. Be 00:07:19.480 --> 00:07:22.899 doers of the word and not hearers only. Deceiving 00:07:22.899 --> 00:07:26.639 others. The risk? Spiritual deception. They think 00:07:26.639 --> 00:07:28.879 they're growing because they're learning. The verse of the day is always on 00:07:50.720 --> 00:07:53.560 their story, but do you know what's never on 00:07:53.560 --> 00:07:56.740 their? Conviction, holiness, repentance. And 00:07:56.740 --> 00:07:59.259 if you scroll down to the DMs, let's just say 00:07:59.259 --> 00:08:03.199 Jesus ain't in there. The risk? Created holiness, 00:08:03.600 --> 00:08:07.300 hidden hypocrisy. Number four, the 00:08:36.299 --> 00:08:39.080 comfort curator. This one hits hardest. This 00:08:39.080 --> 00:08:41.639 person treats churches like Netflix categories. 00:08:41.960 --> 00:08:44.220 I like the worship at that place, but the sermon 00:08:44.220 --> 00:08:47.059 was kind of long. Oh, this one has a coffee bar 00:08:47.059 --> 00:08:51.360 and doesn't talk about sin. Bet. They want spiritual 00:08:51.360 --> 00:08:54.299 vibes, not spiritual accountability. They choose 00:08:54.299 --> 00:08:57.440 churches the same way people choose brunch spots. 00:08:57.980 --> 00:09:01.259 But discipleship isn't customizable. Not what your denomination said. 00:10:03.799 --> 00:10:06.220 Not what Instagram said. Not what your youth 00:10:06.220 --> 00:10:08.980 pastor growing up implied. Let's go straight 00:10:08.980 --> 00:10:12.360 to the mouth of Jesus. What does Jesus say makes 00:10:12.360 --> 00:10:14.860 someone his disciple? Because here's the thing. 00:10:15.179 --> 00:10:18.039 Jesus never said, go and make Christians. He 00:10:18.039 --> 00:10:20.759 said, go and make disciples. In Greek, the 00:10:28.009 --> 00:10:32.389 word for disciple is methodes, which means a 00:10:32.389 --> 00:10:35.149 learner, apprentice, or student under a teacher. 00:10:35.610 --> 00:10:38.230 But not in the classroom kind of way. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, 00:14:16.970 --> 00:14:18.970 goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self 00:14:18.970 --> 00:14:22.090 -control. The kind that blesses others and glorifies 00:14:22.090 --> 00:14:25.389 God. Here's the reality. It's a record of disciples. 00:26:00.630 --> 00:26:04.009 And so using the same name, Acts, I want to give 00:26:04.009 --> 00:26:07.009 you a simple framework to move from passive faith 00:26:07.009 --> 00:26:10.190 to active discipleship. It's not exhaustive, 00:26:10.210 --> 00:26:13.470 but it's a powerful starting point. So the A 00:26:13.470 --> 00:26:16.670 in Acts stands for acknowledge where your faith 00:26:16.670 --> 00:26:20.269 has been shallow. Before revival can begin in 00:26:20.269 --> 00:26:23.819 your life, honesty has to happen. Have you been 00:26:23.819 --> 00:26:26.700 coasting? Remember, discipleship 00:28:04.500 --> 00:28:07.539 is not a destination. It's a direction.
