In 00:12:21.250 --> 00:12:25.110 the 19th chapter, the account of Paul's coming 00:12:25.110 --> 00:12:29.769 to Ephesus. And when he came to Ephesus, he found 00:12:29.769 --> 00:12:35.570 there a group of the disciples. And he knew immediately 00:12:35.570 --> 00:12:38.590 that they were lacking something. He said to 00:12:38.590 --> 00:12:42.490 them, Have you received the Holy Ghost since 00:12:42.490 --> 00:12:44.570 you believed? And you know there's something 00:12:44.570 --> 00:12:49.340 about a spirit -filled person. and a Christian 00:12:49.340 --> 00:12:53.220 who is not spirit -filled. There's just something 00:12:53.220 --> 00:12:57.279 about it. Now, I'm talking about born -again 00:12:57.279 --> 00:13:01.759 men and women. I'm talking about those who have 00:13:01.759 --> 00:13:06.379 received experience, the new birth experience. 00:13:08.080 --> 00:13:15.019 And yet, there is something different about a 00:13:15.019 --> 00:13:19.419 Christian. who has been filled with the Spirit, 00:13:19.539 --> 00:13:23.919 and a Christian who has not had this wonderful 00:13:23.919 --> 00:13:29.220 experience. And evidently, when Paul got to Ephesus, 00:13:29.440 --> 00:13:35.059 and he found this group of disciples, he sensed 00:13:35.059 --> 00:13:39.000 that there was something lacking in their lives. 00:13:39.019 --> 00:13:42.799 And he said to them, Have ye received the Holy 00:13:42.799 --> 00:13:46.690 Ghost since you believed? Now, there can be no question that whatever 00:14:50.570 --> 00:14:55.250 it was and whatever it meant, it was a positive 00:14:55.250 --> 00:15:05.370 gift. It was a positive experience. The gift of tongues was bestowed upon certain 00:16:47.720 --> 00:16:52.779 members in the early church. I'm not quite sure 00:16:52.779 --> 00:16:56.379 that everyone in the early church was filled 00:16:56.379 --> 00:16:58.399 with the Holy Spirit. The Bible doesn't say so. 00:16:59.899 --> 00:17:03.519 I do know that in the upper room, they were all 00:17:03.519 --> 00:17:11.430 filled with the Holy Spirit. But now watch. Somebody 00:17:11.430 --> 00:17:17.910 says, all right. The Bible clearly teaches they 00:17:17.910 --> 00:17:21.990 were all filled on the day of Pentecost. And 00:17:21.990 --> 00:17:25.650 it's true, the scripture that you give, that 00:17:25.650 --> 00:17:34.829 they were filled in Ephesus when Paul came. Everything 00:17:34.829 --> 00:17:39.319 that you have given is scripture. That wonderful 00:17:39.319 --> 00:17:42.759 story of Peter in the house of Cornelius, that's 00:17:42.759 --> 00:17:51.279 all acceptable. But what about today? Now, somehow 00:17:51.279 --> 00:17:57.599 I have a feeling that the Holy Spirit knew that 00:17:57.599 --> 00:18:00.819 there would be those who'd be skeptical today. 00:18:00.960 --> 00:18:05.400 I just started to have a feeling that he knows 00:18:05.400 --> 00:18:10.960 human nature better than... We do. That is the 00:18:10.960 --> 00:18:18.460 reason he made it so positive, so clear. As the 00:18:18.460 --> 00:18:22.559 Holy Spirit spoke through Peter, and I read from 00:18:22.559 --> 00:18:25.900 the second chapter of Peter, the 38th verse, 00:18:26.519 --> 00:18:35.220 Then Peter said unto them, Repent. That's the 00:18:35.220 --> 00:18:40.299 new birth experience. And be baptized, every 00:18:40.299 --> 00:18:44.119 one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the 00:18:44.119 --> 00:18:49.579 remission of sins. You remember I 00:20:35.869 --> 00:20:40.009 left your home, our last little heart -to -heart 00:20:40.009 --> 00:20:44.230 talk, with that first verse. We made it very 00:20:44.230 --> 00:20:48.950 clear that we're to follow after love before 00:20:48.950 --> 00:20:52.589 anything else. He made that very clear before 00:20:52.589 --> 00:20:55.230 he went into this discussion of the speaking 00:20:55.230 --> 00:20:59.089 in an unknown tongue. Before he said one thing 00:20:59.089 --> 00:21:04.960 about tongues, he said follow after love. desire 00:21:04.960 --> 00:21:11.339 spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 00:21:12.119 --> 00:21:14.579 And from this that we see that the most important 00:21:14.579 --> 00:21:20.660 gift is the gift of prophecy.
