He's calling Judas out. He's 00:06:31.360 --> 00:06:35.860 going, Judas, you're here to betray me. And I 00:06:35.860 --> 00:06:38.060 don't know how you feel, but this guy walked 00:06:38.060 --> 00:06:42.819 with Jesus. This guy saw the good, the bad, the 00:06:42.819 --> 00:06:45.959 indifferent, the moments of Jesus that were mundane, 00:06:46.060 --> 00:06:48.040 the moments that were super important. He heard 00:06:48.040 --> 00:06:50.459 Jesus talk about what's really vital, what Jesus 00:06:50.459 --> 00:06:55.819 was here to do. And yet one of the 12, he didn't 00:06:55.819 --> 00:07:02.839 get it. You could say his view is distorted of 00:07:02.839 --> 00:07:07.000 who Jesus is. Because his focus is in the wrong 00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:10.740 place. And so you have this moment. It's okay, 00:07:10.800 --> 00:07:16.399 I feel the same, honestly. Verse 49 says, when 00:07:16.399 --> 00:07:18.920 Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, 00:07:18.959 --> 00:07:21.180 so they see this crowd coming, they see the betrayal, 00:07:21.379 --> 00:07:23.639 they said, Lord, should we strike with our swords? 00:07:23.680 --> 00:07:25.720 And one of them struck the servant of the high 00:07:25.720 --> 00:07:29.220 priest, cutting off his right ear. So we're told 00:07:29.220 --> 00:07:31.839 in the story now, another one of the 12 who've 00:07:31.839 --> 00:07:34.300 been with Jesus, he whips out a sword like, and 00:07:34.300 --> 00:07:39.879 the ear's on the ground. Because you build the 00:07:39.879 --> 00:07:43.759 kingdom of God one ear at a time, okay? Let me 00:07:43.759 --> 00:07:46.220 ask you, when did Jesus say the kingdom was going 00:07:46.220 --> 00:07:49.180 to be taken by swords? Anybody remember that 00:07:49.180 --> 00:07:51.139 if you've been around Jesus for a while? And it doesn't say that Jesus picks up 00:08:32.440 --> 00:08:36.600 the ear, by the way. Then Jesus went with his disciples 00:09:14.009 --> 00:09:17.509 to a place called Gethsemane. So he goes to a 00:09:17.509 --> 00:09:20.190 garden with his disciples. He said to them, sit 00:09:20.190 --> 00:09:24.690 here while I go over there and pray. He took 00:09:24.690 --> 00:09:28.970 Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with 00:09:28.970 --> 00:09:31.929 him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 00:09:32.049 --> 00:09:33.909 Okay, a couple of things just to make sure we're 00:09:33.909 --> 00:09:36.730 in the story together. So Jesus comes to the 00:09:36.730 --> 00:09:39.509 garden. He takes all the disciples and he goes, 00:09:39.610 --> 00:09:44.429 hey, you guys stay here while I go over there 00:09:44.429 --> 00:09:47.590 and I pray. You just sit here while I go over 00:09:47.590 --> 00:09:51.850 and pray. And then he takes three of them with 00:09:51.850 --> 00:09:56.029 him and he takes them further. Now they're separated 00:09:56.029 --> 00:09:59.029 from the group and they're along with him. And 00:09:59.029 --> 00:10:03.889 it says specifically that he becomes sorrowful. 00:10:04.360 --> 00:10:07.960 This is really important that we keep these parts 00:10:07.960 --> 00:10:12.360 straight. Jesus is becoming sorrowful and troubled. 00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:17.700 Jesus is the one who is experiencing the sorrow 00:10:17.700 --> 00:10:26.039 and experiencing a troubled soul. Verse 38, he 00:10:26.039 --> 00:10:29.519 said to them, my soul, my soul is overwhelmed 00:10:29.519 --> 00:10:33.120 with sorrow. And in that 00:13:08.000 --> 00:13:11.580 moment, his... Spirit is aligned with what God 00:13:11.580 --> 00:13:14.100 wants. It's kind of fascinating that 00:14:02.580 --> 00:14:06.179 he talks to Peter, because he's referencing a 00:14:06.179 --> 00:14:09.159 group, but he singles out Peter. But Peter's 00:14:44.299 --> 00:14:46.720 what? Peter is the guy that's standing up and 00:14:46.720 --> 00:14:49.379 going, no, we're with you. We'll go to death 00:14:49.379 --> 00:14:54.840 with you. Isn't it interesting that we love the 00:14:54.840 --> 00:14:59.929 big things for God?
