Our first scripture today is Ephesians 00:00:16.980 --> 00:00:20.359 chapter 4 verse 26 in the ERV version and it 00:00:20.359 --> 00:00:23.559 says, when you are angry, don't let that anger 00:00:23.559 --> 00:00:28.059 make you sin and don't stay angry all day. Other 00:00:28.059 --> 00:00:32.460 versions say don't go to bed angry. So no, it 00:00:32.460 --> 00:00:36.189 isn't a sin to be angry. Anger is an emotion 00:00:36.189 --> 00:00:38.969 and God gave us emotions, but there's a difference 00:00:38.969 --> 00:00:42.409 between righteous anger and fleshly anger. Another 00:00:42.409 --> 00:00:44.950 thing we get from the scripture is to not meditate 00:00:44.950 --> 00:00:47.590 on the anger that we feel. The more we think 00:00:47.590 --> 00:00:50.359 about how angry we are, the worst we are going 00:00:50.359 --> 00:00:53.439 to feel. Instead of dwelling on our anger, we 00:00:53.439 --> 00:00:56.479 are to dwell on God and let Him take control 00:00:56.479 --> 00:01:00.799 and arrest our actions. If we don't let God take 00:01:00.799 --> 00:01:03.479 control of our actions, then the devil will use 00:01:03.479 --> 00:01:06.340 that to his advantage. You see, the more we think 00:01:06.340 --> 00:01:09.599 about how angry we are and the fleshly anger 00:01:09.599 --> 00:01:13.439 arises in us, the more we are tempted to do stuff 00:01:13.439 --> 00:01:17.319 that go even more against the Word of God. So 00:01:17.319 --> 00:01:19.560 are we going to choose to let God control our 00:01:19.560 --> 00:01:23.879 actions or anger control our actions? Our second 00:01:23.879 --> 00:01:27.000 scripture today is Proverbs chapter 14 verse 00:01:27.000 --> 00:01:31.359 17 and it says, a quick tempered man acts foolishly 00:01:31.359 --> 00:01:34.319 and without self control and a man of wicked 00:01:34.319 --> 00:01:37.260 schemes is hated. So what this scripture is telling 00:01:37.260 --> 00:01:40.000 us is that when we are constantly getting angry 00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:43.000 over little things, then we know it's become 00:01:43.000 --> 00:01:46.359 a problem. That is when we are operating in the 00:01:46.359 --> 00:01:49.670 spirit of anger. And as Christians, the only 00:01:49.670 --> 00:01:52.349 spirit we should be operating in is the Holy 00:01:52.349 --> 00:01:55.510 Spirit. When we're angry, it's easy to think 00:01:55.510 --> 00:01:57.750 about the things others have done to hurt us. 00:01:58.230 --> 00:02:00.329 But when we're angry, it's hard to think about 00:02:00.329 --> 00:02:02.969 the things we have done to hurt others. And remember 00:02:02.969 --> 00:02:07.010 this, just because we are angry or tired, it 00:02:07.010 --> 00:02:09.729 isn't an excuse to be rude. Sometimes we can 00:02:09.729 --> 00:02:12.750 use anger as an excuse, and that is how the enemy 00:02:12.750 --> 00:02:16.069 tricks us into thinking it's okay or that it's 00:02:16.069 --> 00:02:19.090 excusable because we have a reason. But really, 00:02:19.389 --> 00:02:21.770 when we're angry? That's the time to go to God 00:02:21.770 --> 00:02:24.990 for him to process our emotions. Our last scripture 00:02:24.990 --> 00:02:28.229 is James chapter 1 verse 20 in the NIV version 00:02:28.229 --> 00:02:31.909 and it says, because human anger does not produce 00:02:31.909 --> 00:02:36.189 the righteousness that God desires. Nothing good 00:02:36.189 --> 00:02:40.050 can come from bad and the flesh is bad. That's 00:02:40.050 --> 00:02:42.629 why we need to die to it so that we won't operate 00:02:42.629 --> 00:02:46.620 in fleshly anger. This whole faith to see message 00:02:46.620 --> 00:02:49.560 begs the question What is the difference between 00:02:49.560 --> 00:02:53.159 godly anger and fleshly anger? Well, we look 00:02:53.159 --> 00:02:56.759 at Jesus Jesus doesn't hold on to his anger. 00:02:57.039 --> 00:02:59.659 In fact, the Bible says he's slow to get angry 00:02:59.659 --> 00:03:02.680 and many times in the Bible Jesus is encouraging 00:03:02.680 --> 00:03:06.520 us to be slow to get angry Godly anger doesn't 00:03:06.520 --> 00:03:10.099 pay the person back or hold a record of wrongs. 00:03:10.219 --> 00:03:13.039 Godly anger is more willing to understand rather 00:03:13.039 --> 00:03:17.500 to defend. It's not easily offended and godly 00:03:17.500 --> 00:03:20.659 anger is just and righteous anger. Being angry 00:03:20.659 --> 00:03:24.020 for the right reasons. And lastly, godly anger 00:03:24.020 --> 00:03:27.400 doesn't produce more damage. Our points today 00:03:27.400 --> 00:03:31.000 are 1. We should be operating out of godly anger 00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:35.770 and not fleshly anger. 2. Being angry or tired 00:03:35.770 --> 00:03:39.689 or annoyed is not an excuse for rude behavior 00:03:39.689 --> 00:03:43.210 or to bring our anger out on others. And three, 00:03:43.789 --> 00:03:47.930 don't dwell on anger. Yes, we might get angry 00:03:47.930 --> 00:03:51.889 for just reasons or for the wrong reasons. But 00:03:51.889 --> 00:03:54.750 whether or not it's righteous anger or fleshly 00:03:54.750 --> 00:03:57.849 anger, don't hold on to it because the person 00:03:57.849 --> 00:04:01.759 we're poisoning at that point is ourselves.
