All those things and those 00:01:31.049 --> 00:01:34.909 places and those people that we enjoy, do they 00:01:34.909 --> 00:01:39.909 bring us satisfaction? Maybe it'll help if we 00:01:39.909 --> 00:01:42.030 clearly define satisfaction. This is what the 00:01:42.030 --> 00:01:44.750 dictionary has to say. Satisfaction, fulfillment 00:01:44.750 --> 00:01:48.469 of one's wishes, expectations or needs, or the 00:01:48.469 --> 00:01:54.680 pleasure derived from this. Honestly local? That's 00:01:54.680 --> 00:01:57.280 the dictionary's definition, and we should throw 00:01:57.280 --> 00:02:01.519 it in the trash. It's watered down garbage. Here's 00:02:01.519 --> 00:02:05.480 what true satisfaction really means. Biblical 00:02:05.480 --> 00:02:09.139 true, which is the truth, always has been and 00:02:09.139 --> 00:02:14.120 always will be, to be truly satisfied, it means 00:02:14.120 --> 00:02:19.539 that something fills your soul. And not only Well, we see and 00:03:37.860 --> 00:03:40.879 experience the real source of true satisfaction 00:03:40.879 --> 00:03:43.780 today, but we're also going to see how God creates 00:03:43.780 --> 00:03:47.460 spiritual momentum out of that satisfaction once 00:03:47.460 --> 00:03:49.379 we have it. And what we are 00:03:57.639 --> 00:04:01.680 doing today. today is week six of our Momentum 00:04:01.680 --> 00:04:04.020 series as a church and what we have been doing 00:04:04.020 --> 00:04:07.340 so far this year as a church is we've been looking 00:04:07.340 --> 00:04:09.879 at different scriptures and verses in our Bibles 00:04:09.879 --> 00:04:12.539 of how God moved in these massive ways through 00:04:12.539 --> 00:04:16.220 cities and people and he created monumental spiritual 00:04:16.220 --> 00:04:19.740 momentum that changed the world and still is 00:04:19.740 --> 00:04:22.360 to this day. And what we're doing as a church 00:04:22.360 --> 00:04:26.100 right now is we are just humbly recognizing that 00:04:26.100 --> 00:04:28.740 God has blessed local with momentum. And what 00:04:28.740 --> 00:04:31.639 we're trying to do as a church is we do not want 00:04:31.639 --> 00:04:33.740 to get in the way of what God wants to do here. 00:04:33.740 --> 00:04:36.540 We want his momentum to keep flowing through 00:04:36.540 --> 00:04:39.899 us as individuals into our families and into 00:04:39.899 --> 00:04:42.220 our community. And today we're going to be studying 00:04:42.220 --> 00:04:44.500 and we're going to be looking at an awesome interaction 00:04:44.500 --> 00:04:47.779 between Jesus and a woman. And that interaction 00:04:47.779 --> 00:04:52.019 and what Jesus does and how it leads to an entire 00:04:52.019 --> 00:04:55.420 region being forever changed. And even though 00:04:55.420 --> 00:04:58.480 this happened 2000 years ago, This scripture 00:04:58.480 --> 00:05:01.180 is going to do the same thing today in Mims, 00:05:01.459 --> 00:05:03.379 Florida that it did 2 ,000 years ago. Church, 00:05:03.560 --> 00:05:05.420 here's how it starts. John 4 verses 1 through 00:05:05.420 --> 00:05:09.540 6. Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard 00:05:09.540 --> 00:05:12.000 that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples 00:05:12.000 --> 00:05:14.519 than John. Although, in fact, it was not Jesus 00:05:14.519 --> 00:05:17.560 who baptized, but his disciples. So he left Judea 00:05:17.560 --> 00:05:20.300 and went back once more to Galilee. Now he had 00:05:20.300 --> 00:05:22.310 to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in 00:05:22.310 --> 00:05:24.850 Samaria called Sikkar, near the plot of ground 00:05:24.850 --> 00:05:27.550 Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob's well 00:05:27.550 --> 00:05:30.870 was there and Jesus, tired as he was from the 00:05:30.870 --> 00:05:35.069 journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. 00:05:35.589 --> 00:05:37.689 So here's where we're at scripture. We're in 00:05:37.689 --> 00:05:40.879 the Gospel of John. John was a disciple that 00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:43.519 lived with and he walked with and he experienced 00:05:43.519 --> 00:05:46.699 all that Jesus did in his Ministry while he was 00:05:46.699 --> 00:05:50.439 here on earth and God inspired John to give us 00:05:50.439 --> 00:05:54.600 this account of Jesus's life and John was inspired 00:05:54.600 --> 00:05:57.240 by God to specifically write this account in 00:05:57.240 --> 00:06:00.300 a way so that we would know when we read and 00:06:00.300 --> 00:06:03.439 we study it, we would walk away knowing for sure 00:06:03.439 --> 00:06:07.360 that Jesus is the Savior of the world. And up 00:06:07.360 --> 00:06:10.300 to this point in John's account, Jesus is pretty 00:06:10.300 --> 00:06:12.839 early in his ministry. Jesus had been baptized, 00:06:13.120 --> 00:06:15.680 he starts gathering his 12 disciples, he performed 00:06:15.680 --> 00:06:17.839 his first public miracle at the wedding by turning 00:06:17.839 --> 00:06:20.420 water to wine, and then he's even started to 00:06:20.420 --> 00:06:24.000 cause some trouble. Believe it or not, Jesus 00:06:24.000 --> 00:06:26.879 actually caused quite the disturbance in his 00:06:26.879 --> 00:06:30.410 time here on earth. Actually, the biggest disturbance. 00:06:30.949 --> 00:06:34.350 So for all my men here this morning, Jesus was 00:06:34.350 --> 00:06:36.970 the strongest, toughest man to ever live. And 00:06:36.970 --> 00:06:40.069 when you follow him and you give him your life, 00:06:41.329 --> 00:06:43.649 you don't have to check your testicles at the 00:06:43.649 --> 00:06:46.850 door. All right. So. Right 00:06:58.250 --> 00:07:01.910 before chapter four, Jesus had fashioned a whip 00:07:01.910 --> 00:07:04.709 and he drove some people out of the temple. And 00:07:04.709 --> 00:07:07.970 then he also confronts a bunch of religious people 00:07:07.970 --> 00:07:10.589 that know all about him, but they actually can't 00:07:10.589 --> 00:07:12.170 recognize Jesus when he's standing right in front 00:07:12.170 --> 00:07:15.209 of them. And right after that is where we pick 00:07:15.209 --> 00:07:18.370 up in chapter four, and as we just read, Jesus 00:07:18.370 --> 00:07:20.569 is back on the road. Jesus and his disciples, 00:07:20.569 --> 00:07:22.649 they've left Jerusalem in this area known as 00:07:22.649 --> 00:07:25.250 Judea and they're headed back to Galilee where 00:07:25.250 --> 00:07:27.889 Jesus grew up. And it gives us an important detail 00:07:27.889 --> 00:07:30.970 and it tells us that he had to go through Samaria 00:07:30.970 --> 00:07:35.449 and he comes to a town called Sakar. This place 00:07:35.449 --> 00:07:38.589 has some history. It tells us that Jacob, whom 00:07:38.589 --> 00:07:41.269 God used in part of his plan to create the nation 00:07:41.269 --> 00:07:43.870 of Israel back in the Old Testament, this is 00:07:43.870 --> 00:07:47.110 where Jacob had gifted some land to his son Joseph 00:07:47.110 --> 00:07:49.990 and then there's a well there. And it tells us 00:07:49.990 --> 00:07:53.089 that Jesus was tired. He sat down to drink from 00:07:53.089 --> 00:07:55.829 the well. It's the dead middle of the day. And 00:07:55.829 --> 00:07:58.050 then remember, it tells us that Jesus had to 00:07:58.050 --> 00:08:00.629 go through Samaria. It's an important detail 00:08:00.629 --> 00:08:01.790 that we're going to see more about here in a 00:08:01.790 --> 00:08:04.350 second, okay? Verses 7 through 10 tell us this. 00:08:04.850 --> 00:08:08.810 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus 00:08:08.810 --> 00:08:11.629 said to her, will you give me a drink? His disciples 00:08:11.629 --> 00:08:14.730 had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan 00:08:14.730 --> 00:08:17.569 woman came to him and said, You are a Jew and 00:08:17.569 --> 00:08:20.750 I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for 00:08:20.750 --> 00:08:23.870 a drink for Jews do not associate with Samaritans? 00:08:24.410 --> 00:08:27.870 Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God 00:08:27.870 --> 00:08:30.850 and who it is that asked you for a drink, you 00:08:30.850 --> 00:08:32.529 would have asked him and he would have given 00:08:32.529 --> 00:08:37.470 you living water. Local, these 42 verses that 00:08:37.470 --> 00:08:39.789 we're walking through today are so incredibly 00:08:39.789 --> 00:08:44.279 gospel rich. Right here what we just read. Jesus 00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:48.059 is being very, very intentional. None of this 00:08:48.059 --> 00:08:51.100 is happening by coincidence. Jesus is the only 00:08:51.100 --> 00:08:53.600 perfect one to ever walk our planet. Everything 00:08:53.600 --> 00:08:56.980 He did had purpose. He's doing every bit of this 00:08:56.980 --> 00:09:00.460 to create spiritual momentum, and He starts all 00:09:00.460 --> 00:09:03.700 of this off by Him going and speaking to the 00:09:03.700 --> 00:09:06.299 Samaritan woman, and He's right outside the town 00:09:06.299 --> 00:09:10.159 of Sakar in Samaria, and it's in the dead middle 00:09:10.159 --> 00:09:13.470 of the day. As we just read, It says, for Jews 00:09:13.470 --> 00:09:15.529 do not associate with Samaritans. Now, this is 00:09:15.529 --> 00:09:17.490 a big deal. If you got your paper Bible with 00:09:17.490 --> 00:09:19.470 you right now, you're going to see a footnote 00:09:19.470 --> 00:09:21.049 down at the bottom of the page, and it says, 00:09:21.389 --> 00:09:25.210 or do not use dishes Samaritans have used. Point 00:09:25.210 --> 00:09:29.409 being, church, Jews and Samaritans, they absolutely 00:09:29.409 --> 00:09:32.350 despised each other. This hatred, it goes all 00:09:32.350 --> 00:09:35.909 the way back to 722 years before the birth of 00:09:35.909 --> 00:09:40.129 Jesus. And it's this racial, political, religious 00:09:40.129 --> 00:09:42.929 rooted kind of hatred, like really putting it 00:09:42.929 --> 00:09:45.870 lightly this way. It was, it was gnarly. It was 00:09:45.870 --> 00:09:47.330 gnarly between the Jews and Samaritans. Like 00:09:47.330 --> 00:09:50.250 that's putting it lightly. It's like Gator fans 00:09:50.250 --> 00:09:53.210 and Seminole fans times a million church, okay? 00:09:53.370 --> 00:09:56.690 Times a million. And what we see with Jesus, 00:09:57.490 --> 00:10:01.470 he totally breaks the cultural norm of his day 00:10:01.470 --> 00:10:05.169 and he is the first to speak to the Samaritan 00:10:05.169 --> 00:10:09.110 woman. This would have been very, very radical 00:10:09.110 --> 00:10:13.090 in the time that Jesus does it. So much so that 00:10:13.090 --> 00:10:16.129 even the decision Jesus makes to intentionally 00:10:16.129 --> 00:10:20.570 travel this way is a big deal. Most Jews back 00:10:20.570 --> 00:10:23.399 in Jesus's day Making their way from Jerusalem 00:10:23.399 --> 00:10:25.299 to Galilee. They would have taken a completely 00:10:25.299 --> 00:10:27.320 different route to go there that would have taken 00:10:27.320 --> 00:10:29.820 two days longer Just because they didn't want 00:10:29.820 --> 00:10:33.720 to come that close to Samaria, but not Jesus 00:10:33.720 --> 00:10:37.659 Everything he does has purpose And then also 00:10:37.659 --> 00:10:39.360 that point that the scripture tells us about 00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:41.360 it being in the middle of the day and when this 00:10:41.360 --> 00:10:44.039 woman is there getting water It's a big deal 00:10:44.039 --> 00:10:46.600 tells us a lot about this woman and more about 00:10:46.600 --> 00:10:49.200 her that we're gonna find out real soon But what 00:10:49.200 --> 00:10:51.279 we see is Jesus starts this dialogue with her 00:10:51.659 --> 00:10:54.940 He's doing this to lead to a point. He asked 00:10:54.940 --> 00:10:58.100 her for water and then he just straight up tells 00:10:58.100 --> 00:11:01.720 her He says if you knew who it was that was asking 00:11:01.720 --> 00:11:07.000 you if you knew the gift of God Which is Jesus? 00:11:08.019 --> 00:11:12.139 Then you would ask him and Jesus would give her 00:11:12.139 --> 00:11:15.700 living water See Jesus is building up to this 00:11:15.700 --> 00:11:18.259 powerful powerful moment. But as we're about 00:11:18.259 --> 00:11:20.000 to see this woman, she's still not tracking with 00:11:20.000 --> 00:11:22.379 him This is how she responds, verses 11 and 12. 00:11:22.740 --> 00:11:25.320 Sir, the woman said, you have nothing to draw 00:11:25.320 --> 00:11:27.700 with and the well is deep. Where can you get 00:11:27.700 --> 00:11:30.200 this living water? Are you greater than our father 00:11:30.200 --> 00:11:32.659 Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it 00:11:32.659 --> 00:11:36.059 himself, as did also his sons and his livestock? 00:11:37.480 --> 00:11:40.539 So this woman, she's still thinking about the 00:11:40.539 --> 00:11:45.320 actual physical water. Her mind is on satisfaction, 00:11:46.320 --> 00:11:48.379 but not the right kind of true satisfaction. 00:11:49.239 --> 00:11:52.220 Just like a whole lot of us right now We want 00:11:52.220 --> 00:11:54.600 satisfaction, but we're looking in all the wrong 00:11:54.600 --> 00:11:57.279 places for it We're either taking the things 00:11:57.279 --> 00:11:59.220 and the places and the people that God places 00:11:59.220 --> 00:12:01.159 around us and we're trying to fill our soul with 00:12:01.159 --> 00:12:04.639 them Which they can never do or a lot of us right 00:12:04.639 --> 00:12:07.320 now We're taking this to the even next level 00:12:07.320 --> 00:12:10.240 and we're trying to find satisfaction in sin 00:12:10.240 --> 00:12:14.659 and local We're chasing a lost cause Because 00:12:14.659 --> 00:12:18.440 on the other side of sin, there is never satisfaction 00:12:19.030 --> 00:12:22.889 If that sin goes undealt with, all sin actually 00:12:22.889 --> 00:12:26.070 leads to death, is what scripture tells us. See, 00:12:26.070 --> 00:12:29.230 Jesus, he is driving all this dialogue to a climax, 00:12:29.350 --> 00:12:31.750 to this big massive point. We're going to continue 00:12:31.750 --> 00:12:34.029 to see this unfold in the text, but Jesus is 00:12:34.029 --> 00:12:38.250 trying to help us see that real, true, soul -filling 00:12:38.250 --> 00:12:41.330 satisfaction only comes one way. We will only 00:12:41.330 --> 00:12:45.450 find true, soul -filling satisfaction in our 00:12:45.450 --> 00:12:48.419 Savior, not sin local. That's our first takeaway 00:12:48.419 --> 00:12:52.059 here today. Satisfaction in our Savior, not sin. 00:12:52.820 --> 00:12:55.299 Now we're going to completely unpack this point 00:12:55.299 --> 00:12:57.759 and this truth here in a minute, but before we 00:12:57.759 --> 00:13:00.360 do, I want us to first read these next words 00:13:00.360 --> 00:13:03.759 from Jesus. Verses 13 through 18, they say this, 00:13:04.240 --> 00:13:07.120 Jesus answered, everyone who drinks this water 00:13:07.120 --> 00:13:09.950 will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the 00:13:09.950 --> 00:13:13.049 water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, 00:13:13.230 --> 00:13:16.190 the water I give them will become in them a spring 00:13:16.190 --> 00:13:18.929 of water, welling up to eternal life. The woman 00:13:18.929 --> 00:13:21.649 said to him, sir, give me this water so that 00:13:21.649 --> 00:13:23.610 I don't get thirsty and have to keep coming back 00:13:23.610 --> 00:13:27.289 here to draw water. He told her, go tell call 00:13:27.289 --> 00:13:30.450 your husband and come back. I have no husband, 00:13:30.509 --> 00:13:34.210 she replied. Jesus said to her, You were right 00:13:34.210 --> 00:13:36.590 when you say you have no husband The fact is 00:13:36.590 --> 00:13:38.950 is you have had five husbands and the man you 00:13:38.950 --> 00:13:41.850 now have is not your husband What you have just 00:13:41.850 --> 00:13:47.769 said is quite true So Jesus He speaks to the 00:13:47.769 --> 00:13:50.769 physical water, but just like he's been intentionally 00:13:50.769 --> 00:13:55.389 doing this whole time He's working this way to 00:13:55.389 --> 00:13:59.429 speak to her about true satisfaction biblical 00:13:59.429 --> 00:14:03.830 satisfaction soul Filling satisfaction and there's 00:14:03.830 --> 00:14:07.529 only one way to have it local and that's through 00:14:07.529 --> 00:14:11.210 Jesus now before we really break this down It's 00:14:11.210 --> 00:14:14.850 very very important that we notice Jesus does 00:14:14.850 --> 00:14:17.909 not start all of this by calling out her sin 00:14:17.909 --> 00:14:22.029 He first starts by telling her about his grace 00:14:22.029 --> 00:14:25.730 the living water Now Jesus, as you study his 00:14:25.730 --> 00:14:27.470 life and you read the Gospels for yourself, you 00:14:27.470 --> 00:14:30.009 will see that he perfectly towed the tension 00:14:30.009 --> 00:14:33.409 of grace and truth at all times. And after he 00:14:33.409 --> 00:14:35.490 tells her about this living water that he has 00:14:35.490 --> 00:14:38.210 to give her, of course she responds and says 00:14:38.210 --> 00:14:41.490 she wants it. So Jesus uses this opportunity 00:14:41.490 --> 00:14:44.210 to tell her, hey, you've been looking for true 00:14:44.210 --> 00:14:48.570 satisfaction in all the wrong places. Jesus is 00:14:48.570 --> 00:14:51.429 using physical actual water in the well to point 00:14:51.429 --> 00:14:53.730 to the greatest truth in all of existence, church, 00:14:54.029 --> 00:14:56.509 that he is the savior of the world. And if we 00:14:56.509 --> 00:15:00.250 place our trust in him as savior, we will have 00:15:00.250 --> 00:15:03.690 true satisfaction. See, Jesus knew exactly who 00:15:03.690 --> 00:15:06.529 he was talking to. He knew exactly how this conversation 00:15:06.529 --> 00:15:09.110 was gonna go. This woman was at the well in the 00:15:09.110 --> 00:15:12.070 heat of the day. And then Jesus brings her 00:17:49.539 --> 00:17:52.359 to the truth that yes, salvation comes through 00:17:52.359 --> 00:17:55.349 Jewish lineage, which is Jesus. who's standing 00:17:55.349 --> 00:17:57.809 in front of her, speaking to her. And it's a massive truth 00:22:48.150 --> 00:22:50.269 that Jesus is communicating to the Samaritan 00:22:50.269 --> 00:22:52.589 woman and to every single one of us today. Now 00:22:52.589 --> 00:22:55.650 Jesus uses the actual physical water as an analogy 00:22:55.650 --> 00:22:58.569 to first tell this woman about the grace that 00:22:58.569 --> 00:23:01.029 he offers. She's been looking for true 00:23:10.470 --> 00:23:14.400 satisfaction. through relationships outside of 00:23:14.400 --> 00:23:17.359 a relationship with Jesus, the text tells us 00:23:17.359 --> 00:23:19.759 she's had five husbands that didn't work, and 00:23:19.759 --> 00:23:22.000 now she's cohabitating with another man that's 00:23:22.000 --> 00:23:25.519 not her husband. Jesus is telling her and he's 00:23:25.519 --> 00:23:29.920 telling us true satisfaction is never found in 00:23:29.920 --> 00:23:33.099 sin. It's only found through Jesus, our Savior. 00:23:33.759 --> 00:23:36.019 And here's how it always works with sin. It's 00:23:36.019 --> 00:23:37.640 gonna come through three ways. The enemy always 00:23:37.640 --> 00:23:38.980 works the same three ways. And all of it, any bit of sin that we 00:25:11.369 --> 00:25:14.269 look to for true satisfaction, it always leaves 00:25:14.269 --> 00:25:17.789 us empty. And if we don't get to Jesus in time, 00:25:18.410 --> 00:25:21.049 it'll absolutely lead to death. And when it doesn't, and we honor 00:26:06.559 --> 00:26:08.720 Him with the money that He allows us to have, 00:26:09.339 --> 00:26:12.180 church, we can enjoy it guilt -free. He's doing it, and they can't believe 00:28:34.490 --> 00:28:37.829 it. And then what do we see this woman do? She's 00:28:37.829 --> 00:28:41.430 experienced Jesus. She leaves everything to go 00:28:41.430 --> 00:28:44.960 tell her people that she's met the Messiah. She's 00:28:44.960 --> 00:28:48.000 found true satisfaction in Jesus and Jesus is 00:28:48.000 --> 00:28:50.660 using it to create spiritual momentum. It goes 00:28:50.660 --> 00:28:54.680 on, verses 31 through 38. Meanwhile, his disciples 00:28:54.680 --> 00:28:57.900 urged him, Rabbi, eat something. But he said 00:28:57.900 --> 00:29:00.500 to them, I have food to eat that you know nothing 00:29:00.500 --> 00:29:02.799 about. Then his disciples said to each other, 00:29:03.099 --> 00:29:05.339 could someone have brought him food? My food, 00:29:05.440 --> 00:29:07.480 said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent 00:29:07.480 --> 00:29:10.539 me and to finish his work. Don't you have a saying, 00:29:10.599 --> 00:29:13.079 it's still four months until harvest? Because when 00:29:58.990 --> 00:30:03.150 Jesus satisfied, momentum multiplies. That's 00:30:03.150 --> 00:30:06.369 our final point together today. When Jesus satisfies, 00:30:07.029 --> 00:30:10.950 momentum multiplies. See, what happens is when 00:30:10.950 --> 00:30:14.269 people truly experience Jesus and they drink 00:30:14.269 --> 00:30:18.589 His living water and completely rely on Him for 00:30:18.589 --> 00:30:22.049 true satisfaction, Jesus is going to give it 00:30:22.049 --> 00:30:26.609 to you. He's going to church. He wants to do 00:30:26.609 --> 00:30:31.250 it. So when the Samaritans 00:30:53.220 --> 00:30:55.980 came to him, they urged him to stay with them, 00:30:56.160 --> 00:30:59.119 and he stayed two days. And because of his words, 00:30:59.420 --> 00:31:02.259 many more became believers. They said to the 00:31:02.259 --> 00:31:04.339 woman, we no longer believe just because of what 00:31:04.339 --> 00:31:07.400 you said. Now we have heard for ourselves and 00:31:07.400 --> 00:31:12.119 we know that this man really is the savior of 00:31:12.119 --> 00:31:17.099 the world. What happened local? The Samaritan 00:31:17.099 --> 00:31:19.240 woman, she found true satisfaction in Jesus. 00:31:19.579 --> 00:31:21.740 She goes and tells everything because that's 00:31:21.740 --> 00:31:23.880 what happens when you truly experience Jesus. 00:31:24.099 --> 00:31:27.339 You're going to tell people about him. The first is this. Some of you 00:33:18.700 --> 00:33:22.119 have been following Jesus for a long time.
