And today I want to complete this 00:05:48.389 --> 00:05:52.209 study. So that's always part two. Have you ever 00:05:52.209 --> 00:05:55.649 experienced a faith crisis? It's not pretty. 00:05:56.850 --> 00:06:01.110 It's very disorienting. And scary. Because you 00:06:01.110 --> 00:06:03.170 do not know what's going to happen. You just 00:06:03.170 --> 00:06:06.189 find yourself in that place. Where things are 00:06:06.189 --> 00:06:07.930 not solid anymore. And you thought they were. 00:06:08.569 --> 00:06:13.060 And what is it going to be? I had the privilege 00:06:13.060 --> 00:06:16.120 of coming to know Christ when I was six years 00:06:16.120 --> 00:06:19.379 old because my parents were already followers 00:06:19.379 --> 00:06:21.540 of Jesus and they gave us a good example. In 00:06:21.540 --> 00:06:23.699 fact, it was my father who led me to Christ. 00:06:25.279 --> 00:06:27.459 And then when I was nine years old, I was in 00:06:27.459 --> 00:06:31.800 a children's summer camp where I asked the Lord 00:06:31.800 --> 00:06:34.139 that I wanted to serve him with my life. I did 00:06:34.139 --> 00:06:36.319 not know in what or how, but I just had this 00:06:36.319 --> 00:06:40.079 desire for God at a young age. When I was 18 00:06:40.079 --> 00:06:42.839 years old, I went to Bible college to study Bible 00:06:42.839 --> 00:06:44.980 so I could serve in ministry and teach the Bible 00:06:44.980 --> 00:06:47.740 to people. But I did not know yet what kind of 00:06:47.740 --> 00:06:49.800 ministry I was going to be involved in. The only 00:06:49.800 --> 00:06:52.740 thing I knew after I finished my bachelor's degree 00:06:52.740 --> 00:06:55.699 is that I wanted to study more. I wanted to study 00:06:55.699 --> 00:06:59.959 theology. So that's when I went to study master's 00:06:59.959 --> 00:07:02.220 in theology at Dallas Theological Seminary. I 00:07:02.220 --> 00:07:04.800 was a young adult in my mid -20s at that time. 00:07:05.019 --> 00:07:08.120 And that, from all places, is when I had my faith 00:07:08.120 --> 00:07:13.629 crisis. Once I started realizing that the Bible 00:07:13.629 --> 00:07:17.589 that I was reading since childhood, the stories 00:07:17.589 --> 00:07:20.649 I was reading since childhood, all of these things 00:07:20.649 --> 00:07:23.490 suddenly it's like, wait, the Bible was written 00:07:23.490 --> 00:07:25.689 in Hebrew and Greek and all of these things and 00:07:25.689 --> 00:07:27.569 there are different ways of translating a single 00:07:27.569 --> 00:07:30.189 word or that. And there's textual criticism and 00:07:30.189 --> 00:07:31.649 there's manuscripts and all of these different 00:07:31.649 --> 00:07:35.110 things I had never even known about or learned 00:07:35.110 --> 00:07:38.029 to question any of these things was the catalyst 00:07:38.029 --> 00:07:43.160 for my faith. It was a crisis that led me to 00:07:43.160 --> 00:07:47.540 have to understand the things that I had believed. 00:07:47.939 --> 00:07:51.800 I inherited them in a good way, not in a bad 00:07:51.800 --> 00:07:56.519 way. But the faith crisis made me solidify these 00:07:56.519 --> 00:07:58.860 things. And it moved me from believing, having 00:07:58.860 --> 00:08:01.699 beliefs, to not having convictions. But that 00:08:01.699 --> 00:08:05.899 process was a scary process. Because you start 00:08:05.899 --> 00:08:08.779 asking questions like, how do I know I can trust 00:08:08.779 --> 00:08:11.839 the Bible? How do I know this is true? How do 00:08:11.839 --> 00:08:15.899 I know that God exists? How do I know that Jesus 00:08:15.899 --> 00:08:18.360 is real? And suddenly all of these different 00:08:18.360 --> 00:08:23.319 things came to the surface. And in that space, 00:08:23.639 --> 00:08:28.060 God met me and led me. And I want to share that 00:08:28.060 --> 00:08:30.459 journey with you. Because if you are in a faith 00:08:30.459 --> 00:08:35.330 crisis, For some, that is just part of the journey. 00:08:35.509 --> 00:08:37.830 Some of you will never have one. That's great. 00:08:38.950 --> 00:08:42.950 But if you are in that stage of your life, don't 00:08:42.950 --> 00:08:48.750 worry. It's okay. The Lord is with you. And you 00:08:48.750 --> 00:08:51.190 are in the right place at the right time because 00:08:51.190 --> 00:08:54.799 we want to walk with you. Because one of the 00:08:54.799 --> 00:08:57.019 things that we're discovering in this journey 00:08:57.019 --> 00:09:00.379 is that it's not so much about what do I believe? 00:09:00.539 --> 00:09:02.600 What do I really believe? That's the wrong question. 00:09:03.399 --> 00:09:09.700 The question is, what is really truth? Because 00:09:09.700 --> 00:09:14.500 you want to believe truth. And that's why last 00:09:14.500 --> 00:09:17.659 week when we started the study, I showed you 00:09:17.659 --> 00:09:21.070 some of these different things that God... frames 00:09:21.070 --> 00:09:24.570 this whole concept from his perspective. And 00:09:24.570 --> 00:09:27.830 let me just review from last week initially here 00:09:27.830 --> 00:09:31.610 what God had told the people about what mattered 00:09:31.610 --> 00:09:33.789 to him. Would you read this aloud as a review? 00:09:34.730 --> 00:09:38.629 These are the ones I look on with favor, those 00:09:38.629 --> 00:09:42.129 who are humble and contrite in spirit and who 00:09:42.129 --> 00:09:45.919 tremble at my word. We learned last week that 00:09:45.919 --> 00:09:48.860 God cares about what attitude we have about His 00:09:48.860 --> 00:09:53.000 Word. He wants us to take His Word seriously. 00:09:54.960 --> 00:09:58.720 That matters to Him. And the second thing we 00:09:58.720 --> 00:10:01.980 learned is that when Jesus prays for us as His 00:10:01.980 --> 00:10:06.460 followers, He says that His Word, His revelation 00:10:06.460 --> 00:10:10.200 is going to shape us and sanctify us. And we 00:10:10.200 --> 00:10:12.220 read this last week. Would you read it out loud 00:10:12.220 --> 00:10:16.710 with me? Sanctify them by the truth. Your word 00:10:16.710 --> 00:10:22.830 is truth. Jesus cared about truth. He said that 00:10:22.830 --> 00:10:26.149 truth was going to set us free. He said, I am 00:10:26.149 --> 00:10:29.289 the way, the truth, and the life. And then when 00:10:29.289 --> 00:10:32.850 he prays for us, he says, God, I pray for them 00:10:32.850 --> 00:10:35.850 so that they will be transformed by your truth. 00:10:38.350 --> 00:10:43.129 The reason why a faith crisis matters, It's because 00:10:43.129 --> 00:10:47.389 it's an opportunity to discern what is true. 00:10:49.350 --> 00:10:54.049 Not what I believe or what works for me. You 00:10:54.049 --> 00:10:57.509 move from that place of having beliefs to now 00:10:57.509 --> 00:10:59.950 having to move to a place of having convictions. 00:11:00.049 --> 00:11:03.470 And that place matters because if you move from 00:11:03.470 --> 00:11:08.009 belief to deep conviction, what follows is deeper, 00:11:08.029 --> 00:11:13.529 greater kingdom impact. Because what you believe 00:11:13.529 --> 00:11:21.289 now is solid. And truth matters. It matters to 00:11:21.289 --> 00:11:24.730 God. He wants us to take his word seriously because 00:11:24.730 --> 00:11:28.230 his word is truth. So we take his word seriously 00:11:28.230 --> 00:11:30.929 because it's true. So we take his truth seriously. 00:11:33.370 --> 00:11:35.750 But there's a reason why that matters so much. 00:11:36.629 --> 00:11:38.629 There's a time in the Old Testament in which 00:11:38.629 --> 00:11:41.850 the nation of Israel got to the lowest point. 00:11:42.399 --> 00:11:46.419 Spiritually. And God sends prophet Jeremiah. 00:11:46.799 --> 00:11:49.820 To minister to them during that time. And God 00:11:49.820 --> 00:11:52.679 who cared about his people. Caring for truth. 00:11:53.039 --> 00:11:57.539 Now looks at them. And just the very thought. 00:11:57.639 --> 00:12:01.740 That God is pronouncing these words. It's a very 00:12:01.740 --> 00:12:09.399 emotional heavy moment. God says. Say to them 00:12:09.399 --> 00:12:15.429 Jeremiah. This is the nation that has not obeyed 00:12:15.429 --> 00:12:19.250 the Lord its God or responded to its correction. 00:12:23.169 --> 00:12:32.409 Truth has perished. It has vanished from their 00:12:32.409 --> 00:12:37.389 lips. When I look at my people, I don't see anyone 00:12:37.389 --> 00:12:40.429 that cares about truth. They don't care about 00:12:40.429 --> 00:12:43.210 it. They don't know it. They don't speak it. 00:12:44.149 --> 00:12:47.730 And because of that attitude towards my truth, 00:12:48.090 --> 00:12:52.769 is that they have now embraced all of these worldviews 00:12:52.769 --> 00:12:55.149 of all of these religions. And now they have 00:12:55.149 --> 00:12:59.870 engaged in things that instead of moving forward, 00:12:59.990 --> 00:13:03.809 now they have moved backwards. And it saddens 00:13:03.809 --> 00:13:08.070 me to see my people no longer caring about truth. 00:13:13.610 --> 00:13:16.710 And before that, in that journey that the nation 00:13:16.710 --> 00:13:20.370 has gone in that process of decay, as they are 00:13:20.370 --> 00:13:23.830 abandoning truth slowly and embracing other worldviews 00:13:23.830 --> 00:13:28.029 of their surrounding nations, God has sent prophet 00:13:28.029 --> 00:13:31.210 Isaiah to confront another dimension of this 00:13:31.210 --> 00:13:35.309 journey that they were in. When you abandon truth, 00:13:36.169 --> 00:13:38.429 and it's no longer in your lips because you don't 00:13:38.429 --> 00:13:40.830 understand it, you don't care about it, you don't 00:13:40.830 --> 00:13:43.429 speak it, you don't guide anyone into truth, 00:13:43.690 --> 00:13:48.789 then how do you discern right from wrong, good 00:13:48.789 --> 00:13:52.629 from evil? What is good and what is bad? How 00:13:52.629 --> 00:13:55.370 do you discern that if it's not based on truth? 00:13:56.250 --> 00:13:59.789 If we are living truth aside and we are simply 00:13:59.789 --> 00:14:03.470 functioning on a matter of opinions, How do you 00:14:03.470 --> 00:14:07.629 know? And how do you live? And that's why God 00:14:07.629 --> 00:14:12.029 confronts the nation through Isaiah. And he tells 00:14:12.029 --> 00:14:16.909 Isaiah, tell this people, a people now where 00:14:16.909 --> 00:14:19.090 truth doesn't matter, a place where truth has 00:14:19.090 --> 00:14:24.970 perished, tell them this, woe to those who call 00:14:24.970 --> 00:14:33.470 evil good, and good evil. Completely turned around. 00:14:33.950 --> 00:14:37.529 Their sense of right and wrong. Completely turned 00:14:37.529 --> 00:14:43.889 around. Upside down as we say. Who put darkness 00:14:43.889 --> 00:14:48.629 for light. And light for darkness. Who put bitter 00:14:48.629 --> 00:14:56.129 for sweet. And sweet for bitter. He's seeing 00:14:56.129 --> 00:14:58.649 the people. That now they are abandoned in truth. 00:14:59.279 --> 00:15:02.000 And he's seeing them make decisions for life 00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:06.720 completely contrary to what he himself has designed 00:15:06.720 --> 00:15:09.759 for them. And not only they are disobeying and 00:15:09.759 --> 00:15:12.100 doing the opposite, but they're calling that 00:15:12.100 --> 00:15:17.480 good and they're calling his way bad. And he 00:15:17.480 --> 00:15:21.720 says, woe to those who are wise in their own 00:15:21.720 --> 00:15:25.059 eyes and clever in their own sight, but have 00:15:25.059 --> 00:15:32.009 abandoned me. For their own versions of truth. 00:15:34.529 --> 00:15:38.870 What we realize is that truth matters. Because 00:15:38.870 --> 00:15:44.470 what we believe to be true. Will affect the way 00:15:44.470 --> 00:15:48.389 we live. And God wants us to experience life 00:15:48.389 --> 00:15:53.009 abundantly. According to his design. And the 00:15:53.009 --> 00:15:57.990 moment we do not believe that he is truth. and 00:15:57.990 --> 00:16:02.049 that His way is the true way, we will abandon 00:16:02.049 --> 00:16:04.789 it for something else, and our lives and our 00:16:04.789 --> 00:16:07.970 decisions are not going to take us to the right 00:16:07.970 --> 00:16:11.029 place. And we will look back at our lives with 00:16:11.029 --> 00:16:19.909 regret because we were duped by deception. Lack 00:16:19.909 --> 00:16:25.330 of truth is not an option for us followers of 00:16:25.330 --> 00:16:30.139 Jesus. if we are really going to overcome the 00:16:30.139 --> 00:16:34.919 crisis of faith. We have to engage and wrestle 00:16:34.919 --> 00:16:38.299 through it because we need to follow it because 00:16:38.299 --> 00:16:41.320 it's true. If it's not true, then walk away from 00:16:41.320 --> 00:16:47.899 it. Because God cares for truth. And it is sad 00:16:47.899 --> 00:16:52.779 to see what Isaiah mentioned. come to fruition 00:16:52.779 --> 00:16:56.080 in so many cases. But one of the sad cases that 00:16:56.080 --> 00:16:59.200 I got to hear was from this young lady, Chloe 00:16:59.200 --> 00:17:05.640 Cole. She did not grow up in a religious home. 00:17:07.019 --> 00:17:09.859 So she didn't have really a belief in God or 00:17:09.859 --> 00:17:13.019 the Bible or things like that. Her parents thought, 00:17:13.160 --> 00:17:14.900 we're not going to impose any religious view. 00:17:15.200 --> 00:17:17.460 Your own spirituality is your business. We're 00:17:17.460 --> 00:17:19.059 going to let you develop your own convictions. 00:17:21.099 --> 00:17:23.579 And as she looks back, she says, I wish my parents 00:17:23.579 --> 00:17:26.880 did not have that mindset because I needed truth. 00:17:26.980 --> 00:17:28.779 I needed convictions, but I didn't have them. 00:17:29.640 --> 00:17:32.859 So when I was 12 years old, as I was entering 00:17:32.859 --> 00:17:35.759 puberty, I started feeling uncomfortable with 00:17:35.759 --> 00:17:40.160 my changes and with my body. And as a typical 00:17:40.160 --> 00:17:42.859 teenager, I was spending a lot of time in social 00:17:42.859 --> 00:17:48.509 media. And that's when I started seeing the stories 00:17:48.509 --> 00:17:51.190 of all these people, some of them my age or older, 00:17:51.349 --> 00:17:55.609 that had similar feelings to what I was feeling. 00:17:55.930 --> 00:18:00.250 And then I realized that they were teaching me 00:18:00.250 --> 00:18:02.950 that actually the way I was feeling, the reason 00:18:02.950 --> 00:18:07.569 for that was because I had the body of a girl, 00:18:07.609 --> 00:18:10.589 but really I was a boy. I was meant to be born 00:18:10.589 --> 00:18:13.900 a boy. And the only way that his feelings would 00:18:13.900 --> 00:18:19.240 go away was that if I became physically a boy. 00:18:21.019 --> 00:18:25.559 So she started embracing that ideology at age 00:18:25.559 --> 00:18:34.740 12. Which led her to eventually perform all the 00:18:34.740 --> 00:18:38.160 hormonal treatment and the removal of her breasts. 00:18:38.740 --> 00:18:47.490 And she became... A boy. And she was not a Christian. 00:18:47.650 --> 00:18:49.910 She did not believe in God, the Bible, none of 00:18:49.910 --> 00:18:53.109 these things. But it was in that period of her 00:18:53.109 --> 00:18:56.910 life, between 12 and 16, as she was going to 00:18:56.910 --> 00:19:00.289 high school and living life like a boy, that 00:19:00.289 --> 00:19:04.630 she realized this was a whole mistake. I'm not 00:19:04.630 --> 00:19:08.930 a boy. I can never be a boy. I can just look 00:19:08.930 --> 00:19:12.650 like one. But I was born a girl and I'm still 00:19:12.650 --> 00:19:15.470 a girl trying to pretend to be a boy. There's 00:19:15.470 --> 00:19:21.190 no such a thing as different genders. And she 00:19:21.190 --> 00:19:23.809 started feeling conflicted more and more. And 00:19:23.809 --> 00:19:27.250 she's going to high school. And she's learning 00:19:27.250 --> 00:19:29.529 about the human body and all of these things. 00:19:29.569 --> 00:19:33.329 She says the maternal instinct started. It's like I want to know objectively, how 00:25:50.730 --> 00:25:52.569 do I know this is true and not that? How the 00:25:52.569 --> 00:25:54.950 Bible is true but not that other book? How Jesus 00:25:54.950 --> 00:25:57.450 is true but not that other religion? How do I 00:25:57.450 --> 00:26:02.250 know? She wanted to discern truth. But because 00:26:02.250 --> 00:26:04.849 she couldn't find someone to intelligently engage 00:26:04.849 --> 00:26:08.049 with her in that journey, she became an agnostic 00:26:08.049 --> 00:26:13.230 and a moral relativist. What she discovered is 00:26:13.230 --> 00:26:16.130 that there are these two competing worldviews. 00:26:16.440 --> 00:26:18.759 And the worldview that she embraced is what she 00:26:18.759 --> 00:26:21.960 called the materialistic worldview, also known 00:26:21.960 --> 00:26:26.519 as Darwinian materialism or naturalism. And for the first time, she was 00:27:08.450 --> 00:27:11.410 able to engage in intelligent conversations to 00:27:11.410 --> 00:27:15.549 answer the questions that she had. And even though 00:27:15.549 --> 00:27:18.329 she wrestled and she resisted, eventually Nancy 00:27:18.329 --> 00:27:21.750 came to know Christ. She became a follower of 00:27:21.750 --> 00:27:26.349 Jesus and was able to understand why the Bible 00:27:26.349 --> 00:27:29.829 and the worldview of the Bible was true. And 00:27:29.829 --> 00:27:33.410 today, she's a professor at a seminary in Houston 00:27:33.410 --> 00:27:37.200 in the U .S. And she has written numerous books 00:27:37.200 --> 00:27:44.480 that are very good. These worldviews that she's 00:27:44.480 --> 00:27:46.480 talking about are very opposite. And we need 00:27:46.480 --> 00:27:50.079 to take a moment to look into them. Because part 00:27:50.079 --> 00:27:52.940 of the faith crisis of many people within the 00:27:52.940 --> 00:27:55.740 church and outside is precisely because they 00:27:55.740 --> 00:27:58.940 find themselves in this quandrum of, which one 00:27:58.940 --> 00:28:04.880 is it? This is the way it works. The materialistic 00:28:04.880 --> 00:28:09.500 worldview starts with the assumption that God 00:28:09.500 --> 00:28:15.880 does not exist. There's no God. And therefore, 00:28:16.019 --> 00:28:19.880 because we exist today, things began at some 00:28:19.880 --> 00:28:25.000 point. But when and how? Well, from this perspective, 00:28:25.099 --> 00:28:28.480 I want to tell you the way worldview is.
