So may it be given to me to speak in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Please do be seated. Who is God to you? There's a strange paradox in asking this question. On the one hand, God is an objective being. 

He is who he is. Normally, subjective opinions shouldn't come into discussion of objective truth. It doesn't matter what you feel about the question, what is two plus two. The answer is four, whether you like it or not. 

On the other hand, though God is objective, our relationship with him is personal and so can become subjective. God's nature is infinite and so we tend to focus on the elements of that nature which make the most sense to us. 

Some of us will focus on God as parrot, some on God as king, some on God as judge. None of these views are wrong, but they can lead us to describing God in varying different terms if we focus only on those elements of his nature which speak to us without attendance to the others. 

Focusing on only those parts of God which we like or understand can lead us down the trap of designing God in our own image. The God of justice is, for example, a very good description for the God that we Christians worship. 

But what does it mean to us in reality? Human beings have very different conceptions of justice. Does our God of justice care more about rehabilitation or vengeance? Both are active concepts within justice systems across our world. 

The ultimate end of this is that we might so create God in our own image that we end up in the world. up worshipping something that isn't God at all. A God who hates everyone that I hate and is just waiting to send them to the fires of hell isn't an accurate description of God the Holy Trinity. 

But it's easy to see how, when you add the human capacity for self -aggrandisement, a group of people might start with a perfectly theological idea like God is just and end up with a belief system which justifies them
hating and attacking people who don't look like them, think like them or love like them.
